my BD said that the hardest instrument to play is the flute, i wouldn't really know, because I play a trumpet and the only other instrument I've tried is the flute, and it is pretty hard.

the most difficult wind instrument for me is trombone: infinate number of slide positions and too easy to bend the pitch. over all though, wind instruments are easier for me than any stringed instruement. the violin can die. i hate hate hate it. argh.

Oboe. Tone can turn to **** so easily. Can't base it off our band, they make it seem so easy. Harp is hard too. French horn? sure.

i would have to say Oboe, my sister plays it and when she started man i wanted to leave the house, but now she is really good. she makes her own reeds and goes on and on about how hard it is to make them and all this other crap so the Oboe is the hardest instrument, though any double reed instrument is also very hard. I play French Horn so i have no idea how to play a woodwind mrgreen

AdamElric I'm going to say French Horn is the hardest.I've been playing it since 7th grade and I'm a junior and I still have trouble with it at times. The only thing that makes it so hard to play though is the fact that the partials are so close together. The partials on the French Horn are the closest out of all wind instruments. that is true and one of my band directors last year said the same thing....so i guess French Horn could be one of the harder instruments

I'd say the french horn is hardest to play. It's hard to get the right note out since you don't have to change much ombechure(sp?) to get to the next note.

i am an oboe player my self and i would have to say it is one of the harder instruments but some of the brass instruments are hard i can't play an single note on them... it realy all depends on the person playing the instrument.

Ask any professional musician and they'll say either french horn or oboe. Both of which i play. The trumpet is the easiest instrument to play simple music on, but when you get to the harder stuff, boy jesus, it's like running a marathon. I love it. lol Trumpet player for 7 years! waaahhooo~

flute is hardest cause it takes the most air u have to blow twice as hard because half the air doesnt even go into it ,just over the mouth plate! ninja

The bass guitarist in my band once told me that the world's hardest instrument to learn was oboe...
But i think he was joking, cuz right after he said "BUT the real really hard instrument to learn is bass guitar."
I would have to say double reed instruments are hard to play because getting nice tone is the difficulty of it. But my friend who's a bassoonist started taking last spring, and her tone is getting better (she was complimented by a professional clarinetist once!).
French horn is hard in terms of tuning. and getting the pitches. Flute isn't too hard. I played it before starting oboe. And that was in 7th grade. It wasn't that bad. xD

Messis Luna Anything with a reed. : DDDDD x3 Okay, I over exagerate; for me, though, clarinet is super freakin hard. o.o Dunno why. For some reason I can get decent sounds out of most instruments, just not clarinets. xDDDD But, from most people I talk to, they say flute. o0 I don't understand their logic as to why, though. It may be because you have to blow a certain way to get it to make a sound. Took me 4 weeks to figure it out.

I specialize in clarinet(Bb, Alto and Bass). It's the first instrument I played (ahh! My first love!). But ive played Bassoon for 2 years now. And also a few brass instruments when I'm asked to. But bassoon is definely down as the hardest. french horn is ok if you understnad trumpet (i do razz ). But making nice sounds is hard. Spesh if your a reed player

FLUTE!!!! (guess what I play) ..... and Tuba/Sousaphone, they take the most air.
I've heard double reeds are pretty hard, but I wouldn't know 'cause I've never been able to do any kind of reed.
And all of you are saying French Horn, again I wouldn't know, but I guess it really must be hard or else our band's French Horn section wouldn't sound so bad.........
Hardest marching instrument (in my opinion, and aside from Sousa if you hate heavy lifting:
Trombone. They can tell if you're faking!
