"Well, that's good to know. I guess that there is somthing to be said for the idea that children aren't carbon copies of their parents." Allowing himself to relax a bit at that, Raphael draped a wing over his sister and snuggled her. "I'm guessing that's also why Dad DID approve of him; you know how big he is on traditionalism and all of that. Still, this could get complicated, Gems. You know how it is with Dad and that stallion; it's personal, there."
Though Zaphiro had never elaborated on what exactly had earned the other stallion his personal enmity, the tales Raphael had heard about Guilian's licenitousness partnered with brooding looks in Hienna's direction gave a pretty clear indication of what had likely happened. Raphael couldn't really say he blamed his father, but yeah... "You know that you have to tell them at some point, right?"

"It's already complicated," Gemma said softly, nestling into her brother with a thoughtful look on her face, "Mother knows." Which meant that her mother was keeping something from her father. For her and she somehow knew that it would cause problems between them.
When Raphael mentioned having to tell them, Gemma cringed, "Can't...I just pretend that I don't know and let them find out when they meet the grandkids or something...?" She already knew the answer to that, and wilted, "I know I do."

"I see." The fact that Hienna knew spoke volumes, and Raphael immeadiately found himself feeling anxious. Though their father was a good stallion, a good father, and a generally open mind, there were some things that he was inflexible on. Proper treatment of mares, proper treatment of other Soquilis, proper relationship formation, visting procedures...he was a traditionalist of the higher order, and one of the things that he tended to be most inflexible on was honesty. Honesty and proper understanding of situations. Somehow, he doubted Zaphiro would appreciate having a secret kept from him, especially this sort. Then again, wouldn't his hatred of Guilian have been enough to compromise that first meeting with Leon anyway?
Oy.
At Gemma's somewhat pathetic answer, he merely gave her the raised brow look again. She knew as well as he did what their father's reaction would be; he'd be hurt beyond all hope of recovery, and one of the last things Gemma would ever want to do was hurt their father or have him hurt because of her. Still...this was going to end badly no matter what. "The longer you wait to tell him, the worse it's going to be, Gemma. He needs time to digest, you know?"

"I know, I know. I'm so lost here, Raphael. I wouldn't give up Leon for the world, not even for Papa, but...You know how much our family means to me. Is it wrong for me to want to have both? I don't know what to do." She paused, lifting her head to look at her brother, eyes pleading, "Will you talk to Papa for me?"
It was a lot to ask, but Gemma seemed so terrified. Considering the mare had always been so sure of herself and everything else, it was a little unnerving to feel so tiny and lost. Okay, a little more than unnerving, she was a downright mess the more she thought about it.

Talk about your loaded questions. Go home after being away for a while and in that first conversation, casually bring up 'oh, by the way Gemma is dating the son of that sleazy stallion you loathe.' Sure, that sounded like fun.
At first, all Raphael could do was stare incredulously at his sister. Did she have any idea what she was asking?
Then he had to sigh. Yes, she did...and that was exactly WHY she was asking. "You owe me SO big for this one, Gemma, and I hope you realize it. We're getting into borderline 'firstborn child' territory with this sort of thing." Of course, he was going to do it anyway. Because he could never really say no to his sister, and in this case, there was reason for her to not say it. "All I can say is that this Leon had better be exceptional and worth it. Otherwise I am going to drill him into the ground for all the worry and anxiety he's caused."

For the moment that Raphael stared at her, she felt as though everything was taking ten times as long as it normally would. He was going to tell her no and she'd have to face her papa alone an--A sigh of relief was exhaled the moment he began speaking of owing him.
She really didn't even bother listening to the 'stipulations' at all. She'd give him anything that he asked for! Wings flung themselves around her brother the best she could, neck twining with his and giving a desperate and thankful whicker, "I love you," she whispered. Oh and dear did she! Best big brother in the world.
Maybe, just maybe things would work out all right.
