To Alex's response Shinji merely shook his head. He was not about to argue with the woman anymore, especially on the subject of science, an area not his expertise. And it turned out, he didn't have to, for Alex's (and his) attention was draw by a mild female voice behind him. Shinji glanced over and, although he didn't exactly see who it was, the voice was enough to give out a clear clue.
"Good day, Miss Irame." Shinji bowed a little as the female elf walked in between the two. "I was offering Miss Alex here a tour to the magic department. Perhaps you would like to join us?"

The human raised her hands in protest at Irame's words, a grimacing grin on her face as she shook her head. She didn't mean to imply anyone was being insulting! Phew, she'd really half to walk on eggshells with these guys, and that was one thing Alex was not good at! "It's okay, miss, I got the same reaction from Shinji here." She stuffed her hands into her pockets as the two spoke with each other, not terribly concerned about niceties or politeness. It was clear to her that humans - at least, those of the Science division - weren't frequent visitors here. It must be a little confusing to have an aid here.
"Uh, yeah, please, do," she mumbled after Shinji's invitation, eyes moving around the hall, anywhere but at the two elves. Great. She had to deal with one who was extremely polite, and one who seemed like he could care less. Alex was good at juggling different personalities, but she was also used to HUMANS, not ELVES--
Another firm shake of her head. She had to treat them like living, breathing beings, not something to be so concerned and heeby-jeeby over! Forcing a smile, Alex withdrew one hand and extended it to the woman. "I'm sorry, you know me but we didn't formally meet. I'm Alex. It's an honor to be here." She regretted offering her hand almost immediately; she had no idea if that was taboo in the magic area, or an insult to their culture, or...well, she had no idea about a lot of what was going on, but this was how she'd have to learn.

“As long as you are sure…” Irame said, looking up at Alex. Goodness, humans were tall now…. Or maybe she was just very short. Eaither way Alex didn’t seem to be offended by her words, so she offered an apologetic smile and turned to Shinji.
“I would be honored to come with you, Heru Shinji.” She said happily. “As long as you are sure that you do not mind me coming, I would find it most enjoyable. I have done very little today, and I would very much like to get to know Heru Alex.” Pointed elven ears, however, were not just for show, and she did manage to hear the mumbled comment that Alex had made. She felt that she had covered that show of disinterest reasonably well before though.
Any idea that Alex might seriously object to her coming along as well was quickly dispelled, however, when the woman stuck her hand out and introduced herself. As Alex spoke Irame looked down at her hand. Lessons on the differences between new and old English had been provided for her before she came to Shinkami, cultural lessons had only been covered as hindslight, and she had been expected to find things more on her own. She had done alright, but wasn’t as good as with the language. She knew that she was either supposed to shake Alex’s hand, or kiss it. She felt that, in these curcumstances, it would probably be the shaking that she should do.
So she took her hand and smiled once more.
“It is an honor to have you here as well. I am Irame Aminanosse and I am most pleased to make your acquaintance. I hope that you will find what ever I may offer to this tour helpful, although I am sure that Heru Shiji will be the one doing most of the work, as he is most brilliant.”

The master watched the two females converse and stood aside, simply waiting for the greetings to be over. When Irame mentioned his name Shinji gave her a faint smile. "You flatter me, Miss." Turning to Alex he gave a little nod. "I am a mere teacher of the arts of magic. Irame here, on the other hand, knows far more than I do." His words were purposefully humble. Shinji surprised even himself for saying such, for he had never thought about being humble in the past. Living close to humans, he supposed, had changed some of his characters.
One of the things he had learned was to take initiative. Shinji made a gesture down the hall way, inviting the two females to come along. "Where should we start, miss Alex?"

A few wide-eyed blink followed Irame's introduction. "A-ah...that's a mouthful. I may have to ask you a few more times what your name is..." The woman felt foolish. Sure, she'd been able to pronounce other long and bizarro words, but this was a language she did not know with inflections that she didn't understand. The woman didn't like to admit such faults, but it was the only way she'd learn.
Alex smiled, but only a little. Mere teacher of the arts of magic, he said, as though anyone could do it. Truly, the cultures were so very divided. But that was part of why she was here, so no need to dwell on it, yes? Yes. She lifted her eyebrows at Shinji, a coy smile forming in place of her demure one, remarking, "I wouldn't know, Shinji...this is your domain. If I knew where to start, I'd know where to end, and this would all be moot."
She grinned widely, unable to help herself. That was a good sign, that she was joking or otherwise teasing...well, to herself, anyway. She had no idea if she was insulting the elf or not, but she just wasn't good at sugar coating anything.

Irame laughed embarrassedly and shook her head at what Shinji said. “Heru Shinji is being humble. He is actually very knowledgeable about magic. There is very little that I know that he does not.” At what Alex said, however, she turned to the woman and looked at her.
“I’m sorry,” Irame said her smile turning apologetic. “I whish that there was a shorter version but that is the already shortened version.” She shrugged. “But if you ask me what my name is a few times then I do not mind at all.
“Maybe you would like to see where the students learn? Or maybe you would like to see one of the more magically related rooms?”

"Well then." Shinji clasped his hands together and looked at the two females, deciding to not comment on what Irame had said. "If Miss Alex has no other places that she must see first, then I shall abide by Miss Irame's suggestion, and we shall proceed to the training area?"

Alex shook her head again, raising her hands, "Please, don't apologize. It sounds lovely, just...not something I'm used to pronouncing. I'll do my best." She smiled as reassuringly as she could, looking between the two as they suggested the training area. A dark, slender brow raised in unspoken question; curious, that they'd not just start with where she'd left off, but she could always return later.
With a small shrug and a nod, she agreed, "I'm merely a humble tourist." To Shinji, she grinned tightly, trying hard not to comment about using the 'miss' in front of her name. It wasn't how she had introduced herself, but she didn't want to risk being rude, either. Ugh, she'd have to come back here during the night or something, when she didn't run the risk of being in an awkward social situation with absolutely no help from either of the elves.
BAH. ELVES. She coughed to cover a small giggle, waiting patiently.

“Of course, Heru Shinji.” Irame had been trying to ignore the fact that Shinji had put miss on her names several times. She, while understanding the formality, did not like it when it was applied to her. It made her feel strange, and also reminded her of the fact that she was not a miss at all. “Although, please, call me Irame. I still feel that miss is too formal and not really needed.”
She then looked over to Alex and smiled. “Heru Alex, you may call me whatever you can manage. I am sure, however, that your best will be more than adequate at my name.” She was trying to make Alex like her more (or hate her less, which ever it was) and couldn’t help but try to make a joke. She wasn’t sure how well the humor would go over with a human, but names were important things to Elves, and making proper jokes about them could be quite funny. She thought that this one was proper enough and that it might be a little funny, so she threw it in. “If you think that that is hard then I do not think that you would like my full name at all, nor would you like the names of many from Iliodean.
“And as it is your first time here I think that we should be accountable for making sure that you understand the area. That way you will not have to continually ask for directions or wander about without purpose or knowledge of where you are. Besides I do not really have anything more pressing at the moment.” She didn’t add it, but Irame was also quite curious about how she could get Alex to the staff room for the party for the new teachers… If that ever got off the ground. It seemed that very few of the teachers had any desire to have a party for the two. At least not after the last party…

((Posting out of order as instructed by toa. XD))
So they walked as they chatted, or rather, tried to chat while walking. Luckily, Alex was one of the few individuals who could chew bubble gum, walk, talk on a phone and read a book at the same time. However, that her company was two elves was still somewhat disorientating. "I see," she replied to Irame, smiling lightly, "it makes good sense. And I...I appreciate your help." She was going to say that she appreciated Irame coming along, but she wasn't sure she could say it without giggling like a lunatic. She already felt half mad, walking with the pointy-eared two.
"The two of you teach magic, but...excuse me for saying, I haven't seen any elven children." Gods, she hoped she wasn't being insulting! "I can only assume that this is to teach the human children, but...are they capable of magic?" Alex mentally gave herself brownie points for saying 'magic' and not stuttering. "I mean, I've heard stories in my travels, but you never...never really stop to give it merit as something more than a petty trade skill or some illusionary trick."
At least she was being honest. Most humans were so deceptive that any show of real magic would be met with scrutiny and tens of thousands of religious zealots trying to burn them at the stake. Ah, humanity.

"Do forgive my stubborn-ness, Miss Irame. It was a habit not easily broken on my part, just like how you call others." Shinji commeted and turned to lead the group. He silently listened to the conversation between the two females, and when Alex addressed her question Shinji smiled a little, and shook his head.
"Miss Alex, we believe that every creature on this planet is capable of learning magic. Now, how much they will be able to excel, or how long it will take them to fully master one magic is out of our predictions. However, as long as one believe in such power, he or she will be able to use it to his or her benefit." The master paused while turning a corner and heading downstairs. "What we do mostly here is to teach the students to believe, as well as aid them with some human technology. I suppose Miss Alex knows about the magic refining department?"

“Of course, Heru Shinji.” So he had been trained to call others politely as well. She could understand, and she understood as well that it was pointless to try to break him of the habit. It was hard for her to not call even her brother heru, and if Shinji was like that as well then she doubted that she would get anywhere with her requests for informality. Instead she looked to the question that Alex had asked.
“As Heru Shinji said there is no reason for us to think that humans cannot learn magic. Before I was sealed away I knew several humans who were not only proficient in its use, but skilled as well. I do not think that humans have changed to much as to make them incapable of learning to use it once more. They simply must be shown how.
“And most Elven children have already been shown at least a small bit of magic by their families or someone else in their town. Add to this the fact that there are not that many Elven children and it stands to reason that there would not be many Elven children here.” Irame had made sure to teach every one of her children at least a few spells before sending them off to her brother. She had even taught the children of a few other people, though more often they were sent directly to Dante

Goodness alive, but they were bombarding her with information! To Shinji, Alex shook her head a little, remarking, "No, I'm not familiar with anything here." She wondered how many times she'd have to repeat that before they realized she really didn't know a refining department from a hole in the ground. The woman was still wrestling with the idea of belief in magic and actually using it, when Irame went on to speak about elven children and completely blow a gasget in her brain.
Bright green eyes fixed on the elven woman, a faint grin on her lips, fighting down the fresh surge of OHMYGOD ELF. "I...see...and, um, sleeping this whole time...you guys just picked up where you...er, left off?" Alex wasn't entirely sure what just came out of her mouth, but at least she knew it was in English. Seriously. The idea of ELF children running around almost made her whimper. She was grateful there was no such thing - at least, not in her eyesight - or else she really wouldn't be able to stay at the school.
Of course, Alex probably also had ELF children and gremlins mixed up in her confused state of mind, but it was hard not to be overwhelmed by all the new things. Even so, the Italian kept smiling, her feet kept moving; she would not back down, no matter how much her skin crawled.

Shinji turned to Alex slowly, and raised an eyegrow, a little surprised by her response. "Why, surely you knew about what we are trying to accomplish here at the school...science and technology alone have failed to protect the earth, and what the humans are hoping for is to integrate magic into their system to boose their power." He turned back to continue walking. "However, I do admit that I was quite skeptical at first, but Sir Dante and Miss Irame had convienced me...so I will do whatever I can to achieve their goal."
For the sake of earth, and for the sake of her...
"I had been one of solitude for most of my life." Shinji paused, and smiled a little but not turning to Alex. "So for me, it doesn't matter how long I have slept. The earth always feels the same."
Of course it would be a lie. Nothing's the same without her...which is why I'm here.
The master's voice fell silent as he was engaged by his thoughts. The hallway seemed longer today, or was it his imagination?

Irame looked over at Alex strangely. English was not her strongest language and she knew that she could have misunderstood what it was that the woman was trying to ask. Then again to misunderstand she would have had to thought that she understood it. There were several ways that she could have interpreted the question that Alex was asking, but she decided to stick with the two that made the most sense to her.
“Well there were at least a few children sealed away with the rest of us. My youngest sons, Qualmiel and Moriel were both only 6 when we were sealed, so picking up where we left off with them is understandable. As for making more children I suppose that it is happening. After all we have been awakened for quite some time. Certainly you would understand if, during that time, people engaged in some act of love that ended in the production of a child?” Irame began to look through the pockets that were subtlety sewn into her dress. She was sure that she had a picture of her family with her. Ever since Dante had brought a camera back to Iliodean and let her take pictures of everyone she had carried a copy of the thing with her when ever she could.
“Here it is.” She said, pulling the thing out and showed it to Alex. The picture was composed of a large group of people, over ten, not even including her, but including Dante. She started to tell who everyone was, but was stopped short as they arrived at their destination. “Ah Heru Shinji, I believe that we’re here.”
