Norman smiled warmly, inclining his head. "I'm glad to hear that." He hadn't meant to startle the poor woman, and it seemed in bad taste to admit he had. Instead, he extended a hand towards the booths, the other behind his back at rest, "Have you tried any of the games yet?" A motion towards the brightly lit booth with children. "I'm afraid Professor Larine is a little in over his head."

The last part was emphasized with a nod of his head towards the woman-swamped booth. He didn't know how the man did it, but he was adept at getting attention wherever he went. Wanted or not.

Micajah felt someone bump into his back as he continued to gaze at the ceiling, and the motion tore his eyes away from whatever it was he felt at staring at for the moment and caused him to turn and look around. When he finally settled on a figure that seemed no older than he, dressed in bells and well....other things, his face mirrored his first thought.

Oh.

It wasn't that he thought the professor looked quite cute in his outfit, and it wasn't that he thought he even knew who he was, but it was the comment about being lost that made the dull look of disinterest leave his face.

"Oh, well actually...yes. I am."

His faced blushed in response, and he turned his head slightly to the side. It seemed to pass now that most of his memorable meetings started off with him being lost somehow, somewhere, and this was proving to be no exception.

"As for bumping into me, don't worry about it. It was my fault for standing here, but I've always been taught then when you're lost you either do one of two things. Stay in one place and hope for the best, or try to retrace your steps. I felt retracing my steps would have only ended with me back here once more, so I..."

He was babbling, and his face blushed even deeper. He needed to learn to at least shut up and simply answer questions with a polite yes or no.

"Not yet," she admitted, relaxing somewhat when she saw the man smile. Somehow, the smile made him seem a little less intimidating. She glanced at the booth that he had indicated with a nod and cringed at the crowd. "Maybe if it ever thinned out over there, I'd see what that booth is about." But she doubted the crowd would disperse anytime soon.

"Which game would you suggest I start with?"

"Fun," the boy echoed for the second time within a handful of minutes. "Right." RuiZhi grumbled a little, keeping close to Scyeth, trying not to run into too many people.

In his preoccupation with not running into anyone, he did just that, literally turning and smacking directly into a man. At least, RuiZhi thought it was a man, being so darn solid, but as the boy pinwheeled backwards to catch himself, he saw that it was, in fact, a student!

The Chinese boy had managed to hold onto Scyeth's hand, mindful not to yank the other back with him (really, he was already injured enough!). With huge eyes, RuiZhi practically squeaked to More, "S-sorry!"

The young man was about to try and get himself out of the crowd and back to his normal schedule when someone bumped into him. The impact didn't do near as much damage as the shock itself. More turned abruptly, surprised by the sudden blow. He didn't have the time to see if he himself was okay (chances are, he was not hurt), and asked before even making out who it was.

"I'm sorry, are you hurt?"

At the drop of his voice More raised his eyes to see RuiZhi in front of him, and all of a sudden More felt an awkwardness surging from his spine. This boy was so...short!

Lorioth watched the student’s cheeks light with a familiar color—one quite similar to the color that graced his own cheeks, and his lips curved up inadvertently despite himself. His smile grew more pronounced and his eyes twinkled with the smallest hint of amusement as he listened to the boy trail off after a rushed explanation, only to color his face in an even more vibrant hue than before. How very much like…himself.

“No, no, that’s a very wise philosophy that you’ve been taught, um…” Oh, what was his name again…? The doctor frowned slightly as he took in the student’s golden hair and his amber eyes, but his mind couldn’t make the final connection that gave him an insight to who this young boy could be. Wait—didn’t it start with a “M?”

Shrugging his shoulders in a sheepish manner, accompanied by the melodious ringing of the sleigh bell around his neck, Lorioth meekly continued, “I’ve seemed to have misplaced your name somewhere in the deep recesses of my memory. It wasn’t Mickey was it?” No…that didn’t sound right. Almost there—be yet, not quite there at the same time.

“Well anyway, as I was saying," the teacher plowed on, “it seems your plan has worked, because I know my way around the school, so…where was it that you wished to go? Though I do suggest that you take some part in some of our festivities. We’ve worked hard on setting it up, you know.”
He allowed himself a wink at the student—just to let him know that it was his choice on the matter, and in no way was the doctor implying that he should take his suggestion.

Glancing around the constantly growing crowd, Fiach felt awkward as he slowly walked around. One hand fiddled idly with the penny whistle that hung around his neck out of nervous habit, as the other ensured the dark brown jacket was lying smooth against his black screen shirt. Faded celtic designs in an ink that had clearly once been incandescent showed between the open sides of the jacket, giving it a 'vintage' feel. Slipping his free hand into the pocket of his black cargo pants to ensure that he hadn't forgotten his wallet, Fiach managed a smile that wasn't too terribly awkward and straightened his tall figure.

Feeling entirely uncertain about being around this many people and without knowing a single person, he felt even more awkward that his tall frame stood him above many of the younger people running around. Having to mentally remind himself to stop acting so nervous, Fiach finally paused near an area that seemed to not have too many wanderers in it to attempt to regain his bearing.

Tucking his hair back behind his ears, he frowned as he recalled that he'd forgotten to tie his hair back before leaving the house. Sighing at the thought of having to spend the entire day dealing with his black shoulder length hair constantly falling into his face, he wondered if he might come across some string no one would miss. Bright blue eyes flicked around in the vain hope that he might come across someone he recognized - or, at the least, find someone who wouldn't be too hard to get along with at the event.

Micajah's face blanched from a shade of blushing red to one of pure white as the figure before him tried to think of his name...and ended up calling him Mickey. He'd never been called anything outside of his name or variations of it before, other than 'son' or 'my treasure' (which had been only used by his mother, so upon her death it had stopped), and he wondered if this was some sort of a bizarre new nickname that was being thrust upon him.

He liked it. He really liked it, so he found it odd that a laugh was welling up in the back of his throat. He rolled over his lips a moment later as a polite chuckle, one that made him cover his mouth and sigh as he tried to regain his composure. Micajah knew it was incredibly rude to laugh at something someone had said, but he couldn't help it. He liked it.

"My...my name is Micajah, Micajah Ackart. But if you'd like you may call me Mickey, I don't mind."

He smiled softly at the teacher, not knowing it was a teacher, as Micajah wasn't the type to get around and meet others. He went to his classes and usually had his face buried in a book the whole time, so whoever was at the head didn't seem to garner his attention that much, and whenever he went out it was only to places he thought he was familiar with.

"Thank you for your offer of showing me around, I really appreciate it. I was headed towards the library today to try and find some old books on medical sciences and magic advances, but somehow I ended up here."

It took Micajah a moment to figure out that the teacher was speaking about the event as he should be (one who set it up), but it slid over his head and out to the side.

"What is this event, if I may ask? I didn't stay too informed on our schools traditions or events, unfortunately. I've been...preoccupied."

He knew he had arrived at a perfect timing when he saw the large crowd. Good. He didn't particually want to do intense socializing so what better way was there to hide then in plain sight? It was easy enough to blend in with the crowd having properly dressed. Well somewhat. Nothing more than putting on the traditional red and green, along with something in his hair. He couldn't help himself, he did tend to want to look good.

Though...he supposed he could make himself look better if only he ha-No! Today he was going to at least attempt to not mope. Perhaps he could convince one of the professors to help him contact Ry.

Wei stopped in the middle of the crowd and leaned against the nearest tree looking through the crowd for familiar stopping on Rui and Scy for a moment, rolling his eyes with a small smirk. For this day he'd tolerate those two, Scy could teach him things Wei never could.

Of course, he did know about Christmas. His family had somewhat (not really) supported the few bits that he did want to learn of his American culture. Though it wasn't really American...they just classified it as such. We sighed, getting comfortable with just being there for the time.

Lorioth’s eyes widened in concern as the student took on a shade of the palest white, as if snow had fallen upon it, but his worried expression quickly turn to that of curiosity as a laugh sprang from his mouth, and then to one of pure amusement as the boy tried to unsuccessfully hide it with the palm of his hand.

“Mickey,” the doctor mused softly, “I was close, wasn’t I? It’s a pleasure to meet you, Micajah—though if you prefer, I have no qualms with calling you by the peculiar nickname that I conjured out of nowhere for you.”

He listened patiently to what Micajah had to say, and looked at the student with an ever growing spark of interest that made his warm, green eyes glow with light.

“You were close, you know, a library can be found just outside the mall—in the magic research labs. And you’re interested in medical sciences? That’s a really interesting field of study—it’s what I would call my forte. You can feel free to stop by my dorm anytime and borrow some books from my personal library if you wish.”

Pausing, he recalled that Micajah had asked him a question of some sort, but in his excitement at finding another student who shared on his passions, he had momentarily forgotten it. Something about the event…right!

“This is our annual Christmas party,” Lorioth smiled, “have you not been looking at the calendar recently? Surely you must know that it nears the holidays, especially dressed with that dashing sweater you have on...But all the better than you unwittingly stumbled into the Chinkami Mall!”

"Really? I would love to get a chance to read more. I've wanted to be a doctor since I was around four, but somehow or another I roped my way into liking magic just as well. I think being able to heal with magic would be worth my time, so I'm trying to pursue both fields. Sounds selfish, right?"

Once again, as the teacher had mentioned that medical sciences was his forte and he had his own dorm, Micajah missed the connection that the small, timid figure may in fact be a teacher and not an oddly dressed student. Instead he merely gave out a little more information on himself, nothing too personal, and he smiled as he thought over what else Lorioth had to say.

"The mall? Again? I thought by now I'd have memorized where I was when I do these things. I've been here before so it shouldn't have come out this way..."

Micajah sighed a little and shook his head, chiding himself inwardly at how bad his direction sense was really turning. At this rate he'd never want to even leave his home without fear of ending up somewhere he didn't want to be, like maybe a morgue or the middle of a shoot-out. His imagination was endless on that.

"As for my clothes...this was actually one of the few things I had clean. I haven't thought about doing laundry lately as I've been reading nonstop, which is also my excuse for not checking my calendar. In my home we stopped celebrating holidays after my mother passed away, so to me December is a normal month."

Lorioth smiled at the energy that seemed stem from Micajah’s figure in palpable waves. If meeting new people was always like this, he should have done it a long time ago. “A doctor…there’s a hard path that awaits you should you choose to follow that dream. It’s worthwhile though,” the doctor said, in a considering tone, “and pretty useful. And wanting to be a part of both fields isn’t a selfish thing—quite the opposite if you ask me. It wouldn’t be at all bad to be able to help people using both science and magic…” In fact, the possibly had never occurred to him before, as drawn to the sciences as he was, he never considered the alternative route. The results of mixing the two might be interesting…might be worthwhile knowing about. The doctor tucked the thought securely in his brain as he once again gave Micajah his undivided attention. It had never occurred to him that the student might not have known who he was, and introducing himself was far, far from his mind at the moment.

“Yes, we’re currently in the mall right now,” he replied, bestowing the student with another amused smile, “and you’re new here—it makes sense that you’d get lost the first few times, even to familiar places.”

Emerald eyes widened slightly at Micajah’s last words, and hesitantly, Lorioth reached out and patted him gently on the shoulder. “I’m sorry about your mother…” How much his newfound acquaintance reminded the doctor of himself; it was uncanny. It gave presented him with a desire to watch over the student—to guide him through the tedious studying that was sure to lie ahead.

At the soft touch of Lorioth's pat on his shoulder Micajah's face flushed slightly, or at least gained a bit more of color. He was used to people telling him they were sorry for saying things that lead to him revealing in one way or another that he mother was dead, but coming from this youth in front of him the apology seemed more...real. It was like it was an understood apology, and not one of obligation like so many seemed to give.

"Thank you."

His words were soft and unlike him, and he felt a little awkward in speaking them. Micajah's usual response was 'don't worry, it was a long time ago', so to say thanks actually caught him a bit off guard as well. He cleared his throat after a moment of awkward silence and let the blush fade, his eyes now smiling at Lorioth.

"So I know I'm here because I'm lost, but I don't know your reason. From the way you're dressed up I'm guessing you're either overly holiday or you were asked to work?"

Micajah asked politely, his face showing a smile of real interest. He liked this person in front of him quite a lot, from the get-go it seemed, and he was wondering why indeed they would be there dressed as a reindeer. It never occurred to him to simply ask the figure's name, but that was in Micajah's nature at the moment. December always made him change.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2007 10:28 pm

Lorioth gazed at Micajah through kind eyes, and gave a slight solemn dip of his head, his white-blond hair momentarily concealing his gaze. “You’re welcome,” he simply replied in a quiet tone. And sometimes, those two little words were enough to convey a multitude of emotions, enough to paint a thousand pictures. Nothing about that silence felt awkward to the doctor, though he guessed that the same might not be true for the teenager. He simply waited, and let it pass, smiling back at the student as he smiled at him.

The teacher colored a bright red as he remembered the reason that he had fought his way towards the exit in the first place—the camera! It had completely slipped his mind, though oddly, he didn’t feel any regret for letting the matter do so. It was a good thing he had tucked his booth deep into the mall—hopefully, no one was there waiting irritably for him. Or hopefully, if there were such people, maybe they had given up, so he wouldn’t have to face their annoyance later on when he got back.

“The reindeer costume, you mean? Well all the people running the booths are wearing costumes—it just happens that I get reindeer. At least I wasn’t forced to wear a bright red matching nose…"

He paused before continuing on in, “I’m in charge of the photo booth and I um, left the camera in the science lab. I was headed off to retrieve it before I bumped into you.”

Lorioth trailed off as he realized that by asking this question, Micajah was showing him that he did not, in fact, knew who he was.

The doctors cheeks burned a bright red as he stammered, “O-oh, I apologize for not introducing myself earlier…I had foolishly assumed that you knew who I was. You may call me Dr. Manneth—or Lorioth, if you’d prefer something less formal.”

Christmas. A time, as she understood, of kindness, cheer and goodwill towards men. (Men being the generalized term to include all other races now too she supposed) At least that was what Irame understood it to be. The way that she understood the holiday, however, was a way that she thoroughly liked and that seemed very nice. Humans should have more days devoted to being nice to others and helping each other. It would make them a much nicer and much merrier lot.

Regardless of what she thought about the need for more days of niceness, she knew that she was going to go out to the party that was being held to celebrate. She had asked about and looked up information about Christmas and came to the understanding that apparently you should wear red, and possibly green, and have it have white trimming around the edges. A quick look at her clothes had found that she didn’t have anything like that, but she did have a red and green dress.

So she had taken that, done her hair up with all the correct braids and pinnings and ornaments that were customary for a celebration, (despite the fact that she doubted that anyone would notice anything other than the fact that her hair done up was a little more than usual) and even a few flowers from the Poinsettia that she had had, (she didn’t wonder now why she had gotten that as a gift) and gone out. Today should be fun, should be nice. Today she should be able to forget the fact that she was a necromancer and a taint on the purity of her otherwise clean race. Or she should be able to make people forget the fact on the outside.

When she got to the mall there were a lot of people, unsurprisingly, and she felt a small surge of uncertainty. Maybe she should just go back to her office and finish up the initiations that she had been working on before... She would probably have fun here, but there were SO many people. It looked as if all of Iliodean had poured out into the mall. She immediately took a position near to something more familiar than the mass of bodies, a tree, and stood there for a moment, looking at everyone. There was… A reindeer? Oh… wait that was Heru Manneth. She supposed that if she wanted to she could talk to him. They would probably do rather well, with their similar dispositions, but he was talking to someone right then and she didn’t want to be rude…

But then again who else would she really talk to? There wasn’t anyone else that she really knew, not right out of the crowd, and she was sure that if she apologized enough he would forgive her.

“Heru Manneth.” She said , coming up to him and bowing her head as she spoke. “I hope that you can forgive my intrusion upon your conversation, but I had whished to say hello and complement you on your show of holiday spirit. It is quite impressive.” She looked at the person that he was speaking to, and bowed her head as well. “I also must apologize to you as well. I hope that you do not mind my intrusion into your conversation, Heru….?” She left the last part of the sentence off, but lilting, in the hope that he would understand and give her his name, and thus avoid the uncomfortable situation of her having to ask right out.
