EDIT: Huckabee wins the GOP caucus (********), Obama wins Dem (YEY!). Both by at least 7 percentage points.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#IA

Edwards and Clinton are behind Obama in that order, and everyone else in the Dem race has at most 1%.

The race for third for the GOP is huge though. Romney has second locked up, but Thompson and McCain are close. Some people on LUElinks who like Ron Paul are saying he can make it, but Paul is going to fail hard in the primaries. He's only as high as he is because Giuliani doesn't care about Iowa.

As for Giuliani, from what I've read he doesn't care about the Iowa caucus and is focusing on Florida, not to mention New York is pretty much in the bag for him.

As a last: Obama/Edwards '08

Also, as per request...

gonk

Would somebody just shoot Romney already!
Makes me embarrassed that he came from MI mad .

Obama is great, better then Clinton in some ways and I could stand Guliani, I really don't believe Edwards has a shot just because he's up against Obama AND Clinton and Ron Paul is an a*****e. [/My two cents <3]

Huckabee is...sick. Bleh. Sometimes conservative views can scare the hell out of me. gonk

As long as we're talking about political candidates, I really wish Kucinich was more popular. He's like, awesome.

Kucinch didn't get enough support at Iowa to be viable, so he told his supporters to go Obama.

Whenever I see someone posting about party lines, I think about dancing for some reason. sweatdrop Anyways, The picture of him looks creepy...

Edit: Something else that discredits huckabee. He thinks that everyone that has aids should be quarantined.

crazy guy

It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS -- it is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.

Also, since this is somewhat relevant to the abortion debate, his view on gay adoptions:

more crazyness

Q: Should gay couples be allowed to adopt children?

A: Unfortunately, so much of this argument has been framed about what the same-sex couple wants. But the real question needs to be child-focused, not couple-focused. And that's true whether the couple is same-sex or whether they're heterosexual. In our state, as in most, the criteria for adoption is always what's in the best interest of the child.

Q: So is it in the best interest of the child to have gay parents?

A: I'm not sure that we have a positive answer to that. And until we absolutely could say it, then I'm always hesitant to change those institutions.

Q: Do you believe that you're born gay or you choose to be gay?

A: I don't honestly know. But the point is, people are who they want to be, and we should respect them for that. But when they want to change the institutions that've governed our society for all the years of recorded human history, then that's a serious change of culture that we don't just make readily or hurriedly.

Huckabee is also against gay marriages (wants to add it to the constitution that marriage is between one man and one woman), against affirmative action, is for deporting all illegals back to where they came from so "all in US can hold their heads high.", is for mandated prayer in schools, supports an internet sales tax, is against student visas to "terrorist" states, refuses to spend more money on aids research, and for impeaching judges for barring legislature prayers to jesus.

I also noticed how wishy washy he was concerning drugs.

crazy guy

* More drug courts & rehab, instead of incarceration. (Sep 2007)
* Drug education fails; drug punishment works. (Jun 2007)
* Supports drug courts for non-violent drug offendors. (Jan 2007)
* Stricter penalties for drug-related crimes. (Nov 2002)
* Treatment for drug use instead of incarceration. (Jan 2001)
* Curb supply by eradication; change attitudes to curb demand. (Nov 1992)
* More federal funding for all aspects of Drug War. (Aug 2000)

i stood in the Obama corner at the caucus last night. believe it or not we were the smallest viable group in our precinct. i wish i could have gone to the republican caucus and punched every female that voted for Huckabee.

it was funny, because our little corner had a lot more diversity than the Hillary corner. they were mostly old ladies and women (there's lots of old people in our precinct), but we had people of lots of ages and ethnic groups. most of those women probably just want to see a woman be president because they're from the era when woman could only be nurses.

if Mike Huckabee is voted in as president, we deserve whatever the hell we get (and i'm learning German and moving to Germany). personally, if it does wind up to be him and Obama, i think Obama will win by a landslide. i highly doubt we will elect a member of the GOP this year... at least i hope we won't. sadly, i've decided that if it comes down to Hillary and Guliani i'm going to vote republican. i can't STAND Hillary Clinton. >.<

Obama/Edwards '08 ftw!

I'd punch every person regardless. There is absolutely no excuse to disregard and violate a person's rights. The women should be ashamed because they're hurting their own sex, and themselves, but the men shouldn't be any less ashamed. Male or female, we're all people, and if you can treat half the population like subhuman incubators, there is something wrong with you, regardless of whether you belong to that population or not. People should care about everyone's rights, not just their groups'.

I want a woman to be president, but she'd better be a GOOD president. Women can be just as misogynist, stupid, violent, and horrible as men. That said, I think that's an overgeneralization you've just made. I think a lot of women are voting for Hilary because they share her views and think she's a good candidate.

Also.... The blatant sexism of most of the Hilary-bashing really bothers me.

I think you've told me this before, but why do you hate Clinton?

Hilary Clinton is so far showing an absolute lack of respect for what anyone else thinks. The Democrats have been against this for the past eight years. I've heard people say that she's only a Democrat because Bill was, and that the GOP won't let her in because they hate the name Clinton. Apparently she was a Republican in college...

Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she should have a free ticket to be president. Yes, the United States should have a woman president, however, no, it should not be Hilary Clinton.

Now that I think about it more.
Should Huckabee win (president). I might just apply for citizenship somewhere else.
No longer can you say "I am an american citizen" and feel the envy of others. No, you feel hatred, disgust and other lowly opinions.
There is nothing special about being an American anymore.
It's an embarrassment to me.

Sure other countries are just as a** backward on women's rights as the US is, but in those countries, the common person is more able to change his or her country than the common american citizen.

IE: The caucuses themselves. It's not the whole country deciding on the candidates - if a bunch of people in corn fields. (No offense to Iowan's, but tell me how exactly can they pick a candidate that is both good for them and ME here in michigan? Or what about a person in New Orleans? )

Another example is Kucinich. Unless you have money coming out your a** like say Romney, or are well known like Hilary or Obama, you have maybe a 0.005% of ever being president/ being someone who makes a difference.

Colbert apparently had a good chance, he was constantly rising in the polls before he had to drop out.

Ha, that's good, my support was split between the two at first. : P Obama's a great person, and I think he'll do wonders for America (although, I think Kucinch would have been just as great, but his wife is just too pretty to be first lady xD).

If Huckabee wins, I'm moving to the UK and living in my friend's backyard. Living in a place where Huckabee has power < living in a backyard

Yeah, but what category would he fall under? ____________

The 'Well known'.
He has his own damn national TV show!

What about me? What chance do I have of ever being president?
What about you Setar? (I know you're Canadian and what not so don't throw that in) But what chance do you have of being president?
