Kiuma laughed suddenly as she shook her head, straightening up and turning to smile at Azhara.
"The past is important, my dear!" She laughed, shaking her head. "The past makes us who we are! You must never forget it. You have to honor your past and learn from it." Kiuma was an emphatic believer in what she said. It was one of the few truths in her life.
She leaned closer to her neice, waving a paw to emphasis her words. "Its not about worrying about what you can't change, or ignoring what has happened. Its about taking that, and using it to make yourself stronger! Its what I did. I've learned the hard way that men are liars. They're dangerous and untrustworthy, and they can never truly love. They might think they do, but they are too weak, in mind and heart, to really love. I've had it with men. I have Baala now and the cubs we will both have, and that's enough for me."
She smiled gently, thinking. "Its why I'm going to find a place for us... that's why we're traveling. I'm going to find a safe place with food, water, and shelter, and I'm going to raise my family there, away from the influences of males and their kind. We don't need them... we're as strong as they are, and we have so much more than they do."

"I see!" she said, smiling in return. "That makes sense. So it's all about balance? Learn from your mistakes but don't dwell on them? Look to the present and the future..."
Azzy sighed, shaking her head. "I don't know, Kiuma, about my future. I don't really want to settle down and I don't see that changing. But at the same time, I'm not content as a rogue. Solitude... isn't for me."
With a sudden look of hope, curiosity, she faced Kiuma. "You and Baala... you two are moving around right now? Would it be too bothersome for me to join you two, at least for a while? I don't feel that there's anything for me back at the Kusini. My parents, sure, but... I'm not a cub anymore. I need to live a life of my own."

A slow grin spread over Kiuma's scared face, filled with genuine feeling and a hint of excitement. To have her niece join them.... an extra huntress for when she and Baala couldn't hunt for themselves, and family as well. That was about more than Kiuma could ever ask for and a real stroke of luck. A laugh broke from her and she nodded eagerly.
"Of course! Its safer to travel with companions than alone, I'm sure your parents would appreciate that. You can get some of that world experience that's so good for a lioness and still have the comfort of friends... And truthfully, we can use the extra paws." She chuckled as she nodded, feeling like a weight had lifted from her shoulders. "Of course you can come with us, Azhara. I would like nothing more and I'm sure you'll get along well with Baala."
Red eyes shone as she turned, taking in their position and orienting on where she thought Baala should be right now. "If you're ready now, Niece, I think we can go find my companion." She smiled as she turned back, poised and ready to start on the journey again.

Azhara's spirits soared as her request was accepted. "I'll help any way I can!" she promised truthfully, enthusiastically. "Thank you, Kiuma. I really appreciate it."
She lifted her head, straightening herself out a bit. "Experience, yes. If there's one thing I'm lacking..." Azzy finished with a soft laugh. "I'm sure I can learn a lot from you and Baala." Kiuma's last comment received a hearty bob of the head. "I'm ready as I'll ever be!"

The red lioness laughed as she struck out in a quick-paced walk. Brisk, but manageable. Azhara would learn quickly that this was Kiuma's prefered way to travel.
A strange sort of excitement made Kiuma's heart race and she would be hard put to really put into words the why of it. Maybe it was having family by her side. Maybe it was having another female around, comfort in numbers. Whatever it was, she was happy... and that was something she always cherished. She knew better than most how fleeting that was.
