Nearly a week had passed since that fateful night had rewritten the course of Yero's life. Over the past few days he had come to know his children, and as he witnessed the seedlings of each of their personalities begin to sprout he loved them all the more for it. It was already clear that little Lia had a strong will and a fiery spirit, as if being the last born, she had something to prove. She would grow into a strong female, perhaps even stronger than her own mother. Little Marzi, Yero's son, obviously took after his father, from his orange-red eyes to his quiet and calculating nature that seemed so similar to Yero's puppy-self. Nessa, on the other hand, was a true daughter of Whinn. With her mother's sweet and gentle nature and an insatiable curiosity, she had grown on Yero for obvious reasons.

The day had finally come for the pups' first field trip. Yero had set out, and knew Whinn might follow later if she was not yet too tired. With Nessa trailing at his leg, Yero made his way towards the meadow he'd happened across a few days back. The cobalt puppy's inky black paws battered clumsily against the soft spring ground, her scrub of a tail, crowned with short puppy fuzz, swishing back and fourth through the air, a petite pink tongue lolling from black lips. The air was full of intoxicating smells. Hundreds of different odors to untangle, each worth investigating! Olive green eyes swept here and there, back and fourth, never quite settling. Too much to be seen!

The week came and went quite quickly in the wolf's eyes, perhaps so quickly that it should have scared such a young wolf such as herself. Sometimes she grew in leaps and bounds, but sometimes she allowed time to slip past her without much change at all. Regardless, Harlequin had spent a good portion of the week on and around this interesting patch of forest. She'd found a small stream which had been a branch of perhaps the river Yero had mentioned, and tried her hand at fishing. She was glad no one had been around to see her make a fool of herself; for despite her pleasant nature she was a marvelous hunter. Except, when it came to fishing. She promised herself not to try THAT embarrassment again until she was under the corrective eyes of someone who actually knew the practice.

But she kept within the terrain she had met the black wolf, for privately she really did hope for a chance to meet his children. She wasn't sure if she'd get much of a chance again if she did not one day have her own. She was at the age now, but the thought of child rearing brought a sinking feeling in her stomach, and she welled up with apprehension. But to see children, now that was a different recourse.

She oftenly checked back at the field to see if anyone would be seen wandering about it, slipping carefully back and forth between the field and the woodland area for her hunting.

But one particular day, she felt a new smell about her being as she looked around for any woodchucks or groundhogs to eat. At once, her ears perked, and carefully she crossed the small amount of distance to the head of the field. Her head popped out from a small berry bush, bright yellow eyes quickly dancing about to see if anyone was around. Sure enough, she could see the top cap of the great black wolf's head amongst the grass not far off at all. Amiably, she stepped fully from the bush, and woofed a steady, but good hearted hello.

(( Those pictures of Harle and Kirra in their journal are awesome, Were! biggrin *just stumbled across them* ))

As the two had continued forward, just as Harlequin barked a tiny blue and creme head poked out of the grass. The combination of this sight and sound was too much, and Nessa stumbled over her paws out of the grass before tensing her muscles, standing stiller and tauter then she probably had ever done in her whole life. Her tiny ears, one still a little floppy, perked up and her green eyes clouded with confusion at the wolf in front of her. "Momma?" She questioned as Harle's smell washed over her, then immediately flattened her ears in perplexity, and some embarrassment. No... This wasn't Mom! Unless she was in some clever disguise. Tentatively, Nessa took a few gamboling steps closer to Harlequin's blue toed front paws, then bounced back, a little skittish. Those weren't Whinn's feet. "Daddyyy..." She let her voice trail off at her father, unsure of what was meant by the situation he had led her into. He had promised her a surprise, but this?

"Harlequin!" Yero barked happily, his tail wagging, cutting against the tall grass behind him. "I was hoping we'd run into you." He swiveled his muzzle toward his daughter with fond exasperation. "You see what I mean about meeting other wolves?" The black wolf grinned.

((<3 Thankie. I need to fix/get new ones up though XDD))

The She grinned, her tail flanking upwards and quickly shaking about as she took a few long steps forward to greet the pair coming towards her. As Yero moved closer, Harle became more aware of a small little creature tottling tentatively between his paws; and at once her yellowed eyes lit up with a adoring little whine, lowering her head to get a better view of the small creature. But by now, the little She was bouncing back to hide amongst her father. The young wolf's voice echoed against Harle's own red tipped ears, and with a warm smile she regarded the pup. "No dear, I'm afraid I'm not your mum." Harle chuckled, and she rose her head upwards towards Yero.

"Hello there Yero." She smiled, at her greeting. "Oh, you'd have no problem finding me." Harlequin sat, her ears pivoting forward in a jolly expression. "I don't often pass up the chance to see such cute little ones." Her eyes fell back to the little black and gray female, and at once her tail began to thrash gently against the grass again. To think that she had been so small once in her life! It made Harle feel old, which was a feeling she did not get often.

"And what a cute thing you are too. I've never seen such green eyes." The pale black wolf shifted again, unable to clear the grin from her face. "I see what you mean. I think her world just got a lot larger." She chuckled.

(( xd Who's the black scarred wolf in your sig? ))

Nessa hesitated a moment, flattening her ears against her tiny skull, but the praise was encouraging. She was used to this. Now coaxed by the comforting parallels to her parents rather then frightened of it, the pup decided that the wolf in front of her must not be so bad after all. Excited by this possibility, she clumsily ventured forward again, fuzzy tail wagging a happy hello and she reexamined Harle's paws, with little baby nips at the female's dewclaws.

Yero smiled at Harlequin's response. "Exactly," That was the perfect way to put it. His little daughter's world had just expanded in a leap and a bound, and Yero knew that behind those green eyes the binary code of Nessa's brain was rewriting itself to adapt to this new discovery. As Nessa prowled forward towards the other female again Yero stifled a laugh and called to her: "My dear, aren't you going to say 'Hello?'"

The pup tilted her head and considered, then gave a little smile. "Hi! I'm Nessa!"

(( XDD That is my main wolfie-character Phib. *fluffs him*
*drools over your Mush! husky* XDD ))

Harle smiled as the small pup seemingly lost her fear of the hulking menace that was the larger female. The wolf had to contain a small chuckle within the bow of her chest- although Harle was long limbed and compact, she was hardly a very big wolf. As Nessa took an interest in her startlingly contrasting paws, Harle carefully lifted the one getting lightly nibbled by puppy teeth off the ground just a couple of centimeters so the little pup could investigate it better. The bright pink of her foot pads peeked through from the blue edging, ending in small stubby black claws.

Her grin widened as the little child introduced herself. The end of Harle's tail thrushed again, and she lowered her head so that her nose was at least semi eye level with the pup. "Hello there, Nessa. I'm Harle." She grinned, using the shortened version of her name. Most people called her as such anyways, so there was no use to burden the young pup's mouth with a whole extra syllable. "Out for a walk with your Daddy I see?" Harle's expression softened as she thought carefully to herself. For a moment, her ears flattened against her head, before flicking back upwards.

Carefully, the She rose her head once more and looked to Yero. "She looks very much like you." She fawned, her face enlightened. Her eyes looked down at the approaching Nessa. She did not know what the puppy's mother looked like, but carefully she tried to pick apart little things she saw that were not Yero, and place them into an imaginary other wolf. It made her mood even more pleasant.

(( He's so cute! x3 Is he an original character or created for an RP site? --Eee! Thankyou! I love her! *3* ))

Nessa nosed at Harlequin's soft pink pads, giving the 'massive' paw in front of her a gentle bat with her own one, which was dwarfed in comparison. She sat back on her creamy haunches, staring up her nose to glance at Harle's golden eyes. "Hi Harle," She greeted, and suddenly an edge of shyness, an emotion Nessa had rarely felt before, crept into the little wolf's voice as she broke eye contact, scuffing a paw against the ground. And she stumbled about her words: "Do you--Do you wanna play?" Nessa's tail tucked tightly around her hip and she slouched her shoulders, as if laboriously preparing herself for a 'No'.

Yero chuckled at his daughter's 'subtle' actions. Where had she learned this act, anyway? "Getting right down to business, I see." He grinned proudly as the female remarked his daughter looked like him. "She's got her mother's eyes. And much of her spirit too." The male lounged himself down to the earth, still tired from his first week as a father. "So what have you been up to these past couple days?

(( Btw, do you have a DevArt account? ^^ ))
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:32 pm

(( XDD I have a devart account (urbania), but I do not use it. In fact, it's really just a blank land of nothingness. I'm hoping to get some sort of .com sometime between now and december T-T So hopefully I won't be so pitifully represented in time.
:3 Phib is an OC. I do RP him now and then, but mostly I have to muzzle him. Harle and Kirra are also based off of other OCs.))

If it was possible that Harle's maw could stretch further in a smile, it did as the small pup prodded the pale pink padding of her feet. The shyness suddenly reflected in the pup's eyes a few moments later brought forth a small chuckle from somewhere in the bow of her narrow chest. Her eyes lowered to the child's, and with the same steady grin she replied; "Of course I would like to play." And she genuinely ment it.

And as the small pup no doubt worked out this confirmation of request, Harlequin pleasantly turned her head to Yero. "Between green and red, your pups must have startling eyes." She chuckled, gently thumping her tail. "Myself? Oh, nothing too adventurous."

With a stretch, she settled down as well, rolling carefully over onto her back, while keeping her head partially prone. It was a childish position, but it left her vulnerable to any puppy attacks. "Mostly I kept around here. This is a lovely place, I've made quite a feast out of groundhogs." She chuckled, but privately, she was rather good at rooting the funny creatures out. Say what other wolves may, but they filled her belly just as good- and with smaller effort, then a rabbit. Even more sometimes, if it was particularly fat. She decided to leave out her adventure in fishing.

"But I'm sure a week of fatherhood is far more interesting." She grinned. "How are you fairing?"

(( Oh cool! Part of the reason I asked is 'cos I noticed that you were taking AP Art from your sig. I thought about taking that course but figured it would be a bit more than I was prepared for! x_x *curious* How did it go? (Or is it still going?) ))

Yero smiled. Inwardly he could not be more pleased with his discovery of Harle. She was the perfect 'outsider' to introduce to his young, and as the minutes ticked by he felt his gratitude and trust go out to the younger spangled female. "It's been exciting alright." He gave a mock roll of his eyes. "The little ones take us for all we have. But what can you expect?" It was clear enough from the happy glow that had taken over the black wolf that his words were far from solemn.

"Daddy," Nessa scolded from the ground with a disdainful look thrown over her shoulder. "We're playing!"

Yero raised his brow playfully at Harlequin as if to say 'See?' "Sorry to interrupt." He chuckled to his daughter.

Nessa bounced forward impulsively, skimming against the older female's fur as she darted under the large paw she had been examining, excited--and frankly comical--puppy bounces taking her in a loopy figure eight. "What games do you play?" She chirped.

((oh! Take it! If you have any questions about the class, I'd love to answer any. I am currently taking the course, but I did it last year as well as a pre-course to prepare. Not that it's necessary really. The only thing you really need to remember is to keep doing the work, even if it's crappy. I don't know what you have heard about the course, but you must do 12 images which follow a concentration. (IE: Mine last year was wolves, so all 12 of my 'concentration' images were of them. One girl also used shoes. ) Then 12 more for a breath (which isnt spelled that way XDD) and then five need to be sent in. Best case, you have five more drawings to send, but you may also pull from the 24. So you do need to have a lot, but I would not let that discourage you. I really enjoy the class, and it counts as college credit. It's a good prerequisite if you are interesting in majoring in art, or even just showing that you are involved in the arts.
I have also taken AP English, Lit, and US History. And by compairing art between these four, I would say that although you must work continuously (Even now I need to get a project done!), it's much more laxed then the other AP courses, atleast in my school. :3 I'd go for it. ))

The young female swayed, stretching out as the little pup bounded about and yet, meticulously also kept her attention on Yero. Her face calmed and she settled, reflecting on what it must be like to have children. To think that Yero and his mate were not so much different then her only a few months ago- and now kids! Could such a thing happen to her? It made her laugh this time, rather then bring about the usual nervous bubble in her chest. "Oh, I can imagine. I don't think there's anything in life that worries me more then kids of my own!" Suddenly, she linked a litter of all little Harle's, all having her face and eyes, poking her and arguing, and wanting to go on adventures. A shudder ran down her spine. "But with little ones like these..." She said, regarding Nessa. "It almost seems doable." She pleasantly smiled, but before she could continue her thoughts on the matter, Nessa scurried in front of Yero and scolded him for distracting her play mate. This brought another rise of gentle laughter from the female's face, and another calm smile once the small one returned to face the She. She gave a knowing nod to Yero's eyebrow raise, and dutifully turned her attention upon the small female.

"Oh, I play all kinds of games." Harle grinned, her tail rising and slowly twitching about like a kind of snake. The blue and red tips startled the green background of the field. As Nessa skittered across her paws, Harle completed her roll, gently swatting the little pup playfully with the end of her bright tail. "I used to play a mean king of the hill. But there isn't much of a hill here." She laughed, her tongue lolling. "What games do you play, Nessa?" She questioned, yellow eyes flashing.

(( Really? ^_^ Well.. I think I'll look into that. Thanks so much, y'know. What you said was so helpful. I really didn't know anything about the class... and was kind of scared about having my art judged. XD;; ))

"If the day comes, you'll be ready." Yero smiled, recognizing her feelings for ones he'd had himself when he was younger. Privately, he thought to himself that Harle would make a fine mother one day.

"We do get by." Yero said with mock resignation at her next comment, laughter shining in his sanguine eyes. The black wolf stretched himself out and dug his claws into the ground with a stretch, again enjoying the warm sun that seemed to fall so effortlessly in this area.

As the cathedral that was Harlequin swayed up over her, the arches between the shewolf's legs stretching higher, Nessa bounced back a step, slipping out of the way as Harle went into a roll. The pup gave an entertained yip as the spangled banner of a tail brushed her forehead like a frock of feathers. Giggling, she crouched down, and pounced, missing by a few inches and landing lightly in a pile on Harle's flank. Nessa wagged her tail, her vision fixed on Harle's yellow eyes, as awe grew inside her. King of a hill? Nessa had never been king of anything. This new wolf was getting more interesting by the second. "I play, um, I playyyy.. tag. And.. chase the butterfly." The pup lowered her tone conspiratorially to a stage whisper. "And sometimes I splash Daddy--But there isn't any water here." She added quickly, just in case the Shewolf was interested in that game. "So actually we can't play that."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:06 pm

((Yea T-T Even now, I'm paranoid about having it graded. And every week, I do have to submit them for a weekly review in class; but that could be only an 'our school only' event. But for the most part, you don't meet with anyone face to face to pick apart your work. It's mostly anonymous, at least when it comes to sending. But although scoring a five is hard, it isn't too hard to get a three. <3 Do look into it. If you'd any other information, just let me know. I'm sure I've got the AP flyer somewhere in my room O' Disaster. ))

"Splash the Daddy, eh?" Harlequin grinned much like one of her namesakes, and gave a mischievous, but warm, glance over to Yero. "That does sound like a fun game. But I'm afraid you're right, there isn't water." Her voice reflected the same whisper tone, although she exaggerated the manner in a silly way, but it was hardly phony either. She gently fluffed the pup on the head with the end of her tail, which involved quite a bit of curling on her part as the child romped around her hindquarters, trying to catch the devious bright tail. "Hrm..." She thought, stretching out her blue toes. "Ah, chase the butterfly." Her head rose, and with it came the rest of her body, suddenly sloping upwards in lithe slope, and her head gently bobbed about as she scanned about for any of the flying pretties. She squinted, but her yellow eyes did not make out the sight of any, despite them being in season. "I suppose it's best we play a game that doesn't need more then us!" She chuckled, and stretched, for she had a feeling that although the pup was small, she housed a bit more energy then she did.

"Hm." She swayed, the dome portion of her skull lifting upwards to the sky, as if she was reading it for some particular answer. Her ears twitched, and finally her head dropped back down to earth, curling around to face the pup, and adjusting her body so that she wasn't crushing her own back leg beneath the other. "I think tag sounds like a fine game." She decided, nodding her head. Although she wasn't sure on exactly how the game functioned when one participant was a considerable size larger then the other. But the marvelous thing about pups, was that they always seemed to ignore such technicalities.

She paused. "But I am not it!" She grinned, and with a bound, hopped five feet away, and steadied herself. She decided this was a considerable distance, and stood with her tail wagging to see what the young pup's next move might be. Although she meant very well to let her win- she knew how she had been as a child...

(( Ack, sorry for such a delay in posting! My entire school was squirreled away on an orientation retreat and I didn't have time to post a warning. xd Thanks a lot for the Art info, though! I've talked to my guidance counciler and I'm definitely going to attempt to try it. ^_^ <33 ))

Yero tried not to smile, pretending he couldn't hear the females conversation as he worried at his paw with his teeth, grooming the thick feathers between his pads.

Meanwhile, Nessa attempted to follow Harle's sagely train of thought. If there was no water and there were no butterflies, then tag it had to be. The cobalt blue pup watched as Harle paused to look up at the sky, and her tail began to wag tentatively as she waited for her elder to pronounce the game. Tag! There was a game she was good at--or rather, seemed to be good at, as despite her small size and clumsy gait she always seemed to catch up to Mom or Dad at the last minute. "Taaag!" She chorused, in the habit she seemed to have of stretching certain syllables out. "Okaay, I, uh--I... am it!" She slipped into the role as Harle bounded past her in a blur of bright colors, her little tail wagging her whole body as she took a few puppy bounds towards Harle's form.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 27, 2005 6:59 pm

(( XD No problem at all, I've had some problems coming online when Katrina was brewing over us. :3 But I'm glad you've decided to give it a shot. It's definitly worth it. <3 ))

Harle's grin widened all the while, noting Yero's quiet attempt to ignore the little pup's plot against him. She swayed, stepping eagerly over the dilapidated edge of a rock, and swooped her head down towards the quickly approaching Nessa. As soon as the pup quickly took on the role of the chaser, she moved again with another quick bound, but flashed the end of her bright tail just a few inches before the child's face, hoping to keep the pup interested without frustrating her on how easily possible it was for the older wolf to continue a "run-and-jump" game for hours. So she made herself look vulnerable, and made a good show of being quite winded and surprised by the pup's fast movements. Her yellow eyes flashed with pleasantries, and sidestepped again as Nessa undoubtedly was changing her course.

'I'm glad I stayed.' Harle thought, the idea suddenly bubbling up from somewhere in her subconscious as she skipped about Nessa slowly. She'd been lonely recently, with Kirra off to some unknown place and her family still troubled. Although she traveled often, she very rarely stayed out more then a few days. This past week and a half had been the longest she'd ever stayed away, but she felt pleased that she finally felt adult enough to do so. She felt more grown up here, even if she was playing silly games with the little pup. It made her feel much more lighthearted without having to stew all the time to herself. Already she promised herself that when she returned home, she'd make time to come again. She wanted to see plenty more of Nessa, and Yero, and the rest of his undoubtedly adorable children.

Harle scampered to a stop, pulling her forepaws downwards in a play position. Her tail waved, and she set herself up for a fall, if Nessa moved to tackle her.

(( Eeee! I heard about Katrina. Did you lose power? o.o ))

Nessa scampered forward, her inexperienced gait causing her small body to weave from side to side, ears flopping against her head with every bound. The little wolf sprang into the air with a comically exaggerated pounce just as Harle leapt forward once again, her tiny paws bracing against the earth as the dazzling tail swayed just out of her grasp. With a soft play growl, Nessa bounced up again. The pup didn't seem to realize the fact that the other was in control of the game, nor the fact that it could go on indefinitely. In her mind, she was convinced that if she kept it up long enough, she would catch Harle. It was just what happened. It always happened somehow or another!

"I'm going to... catch you!" Nessa's tiny pink tongue lolled with entertainment and exhortation. She gave a couple high-pitched barks at Harle before charging forward again as the other female slid down into a playbow.
