-.- I was the one whom posted on EGL earlier whom actually called Tokyopop and typed up the entire conversation that I had with the woman about that. They are working closely with members from EGL, Japanese gothic lolita's, and they are working hard to make sure that the translated bibles will be something we can be proud of. Please don't tell me everyone is still stressing over it. We have La vie en Rose. What more could we want. If Tokyopop DOES ******** up, we are fortunate to already know how to do it right, and we have the original bibles anyway.

lol What members? You mean the ones that hate their guts now? They never tried to contact Victoria from La Dauphine after PMX, she hates them now, they had Missmeganmaude for the Tokyopop fashion show at NYAF and she doesn't like them now either, speaking that they were terribly unorganized and were telling her things last minute.

Tokyopop is a bunch of bullcrap, they've said things to complaining people about talking to some members that didn't even happen. Oh sure, they've been trying to get all over Sakurafairy about their Bible, but what progress is that making?

lol, This is why I'm glad that my panel topped all three of their events TOGETHER. They fail at "trying their best". They say the same damn thing about G&L Bible that they assured me about NYAF. They lie. Horribly.

Wow I knew that TokyPop sucked but I had no idea that they sucked to such extreme levels. Hearing this from a person who dealt with them first hand and saw how they work/handle things with people verifies that TokyoPop=Bastardization of Lolita. It's horribly sad that they have no respect for the Lolita's who have written wishing for this to be a success but instead they lie so they can commercialize their awful products. Thanks for this post, I think it'll be a good first-hand example of how TokyoPop really is, a conniving corporation only out to make money and possibly kill Lolita (well not "kill" it, but you get my point).

I know!

They claimed to someone (mastergode, I think?) that they tried to contact Victoria after PMX and that she had supposedly no examples of outfits for the fashion show by the time the festival was coming out, when that was not true at all. Victoria had her things from PMX, and then a week or two before NYAF she had some of her stock for her store, so if they had really contacted her she would've been ready either way, with a bigger variety of stuff to choose from during NYAF. Victoria had recieved NO messages from them regarding NYAF and she was very much willing to come to the con and have her part of the fashion show. She heard of the fashion show through one of MY panelist friends, a week and a half before NYAF, not from Tokyopop at all. And even Meganmaude said that she told them to contact Victoria about it before Victoria found out, and it never happened. She was furious.

My opinion on the matter is just what it was when I first heard about the releases:

They should translate, not Americanize. They're trying to appeal to the cosplay and anime fans, and while doing so alienating and pissing off the lolita community. They're just, over all, pissing off the biggest business potential they have without even trying. That fashion show that they held at NYAF was pretty awful, too.

Out of the photos I've seen of it, there was only one "designer" I liked--and what the hell is with all the Blasphemina's Closet promotion from these companies? Her clothes look like they were ripped out of ugly 60s tableclothes or couch covers.

Goodness I can see horrid arguments at cons in our futures. How can they call it a bible.

Hmm....

TokyoPop. The reason why I stopped reading Shojo manga. Seriously. Their newer stuff sucks. *sigh*

(edit)

I do like the articles posted up. I especially love the story behind Candy Violet. That's so awesome. I wish I could do something like that. Oh yeah. I found a spelling error in it xd

I'm wary of it for sure.... and I wonder why they chose the particular editor that they did. There are a LOT of awesome people they could have chosen for the editor, real tried-and-true lifestyle lolitas here in Japan and in America, so I wonder what prompted Tokyopop to make the choice they did...

I think that it will be less than what we really want when it comes out, but I think they will better it with our feedback. I am worried about people thinking it's cosplay though.

I have to completely agree with you on that point. While it is nice because it gives Lolitas that have been in the fashion a long time an opportunity to finally show off what good Lolitas they are but it also prompts people to submit pictures that can be mistaken for cosplay. If the company is as grand as it states they should be able to pay for professional photo shoots that enhances Lolita by showing how serious it is rather than "we love Lolita so much we're going to be using forever pictures of people we know nothing about for free"

Because apparently being an otaku = knowing EVERYTHING about j-fash.

There's only ONE person out of the team that's making up the G&L Bible, who actually knows anything about lolita and WEARS IT RIGHT and also communicates a lot with the girls on EGL: Michelle Nguyen. Other people like Carmen Yuen and the other people just fail at Lolita, connecting it with other "Victorian-inspired" things, failing to dress up in Lolita right, failing to KNOW the basic Who/What/When/Where/Why's with Lolita. It disgusts me.

Which makes me feel loads better about her being the one to contact me on saying they were interested in using my pictures.

Yeah Make sense ^^lll
Thats what happens when youre like one of the first english manga publishers. They get cocky and think just because they made it they dont have to try their best anymroe :/
Sounds like politics to me ^^lll

Although we cant really prove Tsuwabuki wrong until the issue comes out and we read it and find out how crappy it is ^^llll

The only thing I disagree with the picture thing is that they'll have the rights to use my picture where ever else they want to other than what they're intending to use it for; I don't like the sound of them using my pictures whenever and wherever you want to use it at, otherwise I would send my pictures into them. But if they're able to use it every where else without me knowing of it, then I'd rather not.

I think Michelle purposely put the announcement about sending in pictures on Daily_Lolita rather than EGL since the majority of the experienced Lolitas are subscribed on there. And to avoid any more cosplay from getting into the REAL lolita snap section.

Which pictures did they use, btw?

I was worried as to their terms with the photo release, which is why I submitted very little-- only of one outfit, two poses (01 02).
I do not think that I would give them the rights to any more of my photos, and certainly none of my more professional grade work. But for the sake of providing what I feel to be a good example, I do not hold too many qualms against giving up a small few from a spontaneous and relatively-amateur-but-nice-enough photoshoot that I directed.

That's what I'll probably do once I see their first bible.
