"Actually, I'm getting a little hungry to tell you the truth. I hadn't eaten anything all day since I had to miss my lunch and take over for someone else, and I'm not a fan of breakfast since it means I'd have to eat it on the way in to work."
He looked down at his stomach and placed his left hand over it, his right hand resting backwards on his shoulder. The motion seemed to take a few years off his age in terms of maturity as it made him look far younger than he probably was, and he yawned a bit as he swung his head in the direction of the pizza counter.
A young man was standing behind it and looking rather dazed, his eyes set off towards the ceiling instead of the woman in front of him who was demanding something, and KX snickered a bit as he watched the woman strike the counter top to get his attention.
"I wonder how she'd feel if she knew that kid was deaf and could only read lips? Of course she's got his attention now that she made some serious vibrations, but she's also got him very confused and slightly upset."

Giggling at KX' pose, she was surprised at how he was similar to her brother in forgetting to eat until his stomach protested. Or at how he recognized that the stomach was protesting the lack of food in the first place. Setting the paddle down as KX glanced at the pizza counter, she turned to look towards the pair he was talking about. Frowning at the woman's agitated behavior and the look of consternation that seemed to be crossing the youth's face. It was a bad situation waiting to happen, a customer service nightmare in the process.
Looking back to and up at KX, she gave a small shrug as she frowned, "Think someone ought to say something to her before that gets out of hand, then?" It wasn't that she wanted to rescue the young man, or the woman, she just didn't like it when people were rude like that to someone. Especially when there was no cause for it at all.

"No, I don't think we should. How would it seem to you, as a person, if all you wanted was to get something to eat and the person who was to find a way to get it for you didn't respond? In fact, when they finally did they looked at you in a manner which made you feel uneasy? Wouldn't you be angry and rightfully so?"
KX reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette once again, placing it between his lips. The desire to smoke had outweighed the guilt of only moments before, and as he rested the butt held firmly between his teeth he nodded his head in the direction of the pair again.
"How would it seem to you, as a person, if every time you did something somenoe always came to your aid? Would it make you feel like you couldn't do anything right on your own? Would it make you feel like you can onyl depend on others for everything, even when you got this job to help you feel more independant?"
He fumbled around in his pocket for a lighter, uncaring that a large sign nearby said 'no smoking' and Adalia had told him earlier he was setting a bad example. He wanted to try and calm down, even if a little, and he knew smoking would help.
"There're two sides to everything."

Tilting her head curiously at KX before swiveling said tilted head back towards the displeased customer and annoyed cashier, Adalia's shoulders lifted in a small, defeated shrug. While what KX made sense, she felt that perhaps he was over thinking things a little too much. While people with disabilities did enjoy their independence, if one couldn't hear and the lady was upset, then she was likely talking faster as well. While she had every right to be upset at the lack of service, he also had a right to have her talk at a rate he could understand, so that he could give her that service. Realizing that KX likely wouldn't say anything, she frowned in thought. Should she go say something? She didn't want to wind up picking an argument or a fight, especially not with the kids running around.
Giving a small nod to indicate she understood, she shrugged, "True, but if she has a right to high quality service and he has the right to be treated equally, then something should be said. The more agitated she gets, the faster she's likely to talk. And the faster she talks - the harder it will be for him to understand. If they both continue to become agitated and grow more so with each passing...then things won't end well for either of them." Pursing her lips a little as she pondered, her shoulders raised in a final, tiny shrug, "To be honest, sometimes I wish that someone would come to my aid. Having someone defend you every so often isn't a bad thing, you know."
Her lips quickly turned to a frown as he pulled out his fumbled about for the lighter, she glanced over at the sign and then at the door. If he was really that desperate for a cigarette, she wouldn't hold him back from smoking by staying indoors. People with a bad craving for their addiction tended to have bad tempers, so she gave him as polite a smile as she could manage before quietly saying, "If you need to smoke...go smoke. But do it outside, where you're supposed to."

"I don't need to smoke, I want to smoke. Doesn't sound like much, but I do think there's a little bit of a difference."
KX smiled a bit as he broke the cigarette with his fingers and stuffed in it his pocket, his willpower a little stronger now for some reason. He felt stupid for getting out of control like his was, as he'd slowly come to terms that he was indeed addicted to smoking and didn't do it for the habit sake of it, and for a moment he simply took a deep breath before his eyes swept back over to the woman and the teen behind the counter.
The situation seemed to be handling itself as a manager had walked over to the boy's side and was speaking the woman in a calm manner, and KX grinned as he watched the different expressions play over the woman's face in the order he thought they would.
Anger, shock, shame. Apologetic, relieved, satisfied.
The same looks were playing over the boy's face, almost in a reverse order though he never got to anger, and KX pushed the paddle he'd taken between his fingers back and forth on the tabletop. In a way he was glad the manager had gone over to the boy's aid, as he probably would have after a few moments anyway. It always rubbed him wrong to see someone getting pushed.
"So, you hungry?"

Nodding slightly, Adalia gave KX a brilliant smile. Watching him break the cigarette made her happy, even if it was just a silly, and small, victory for him against an addiction to nicotine. A victory was a victory, no matter its size.
Noting the direction of his gaze, and following it, her smile dampened only a little at the sight of the manager arriving on scene to the deaf boy and the irate customer. Adalia was pleased someone had finally arrived to make that conversation actually go somewhere other than winding up with both parties involved agitated. At least that matter was resolved, and resolved peacefully, it looked like, without anyone's pride getting stepped on too much.
Giggling at the random change of subject, as KX inquired about her hunger, she gave a small shrug. Now that she thought about it, her stomach did feel a little empty. Though she doubted she could eat a whole lot, she beamed up at KX, "A bit. Are you?"

"Is that so? I'm a little bit hungry as well, probably why I'm feeling a little cranky. The food here's okay enough if you like crappy pizza, though I have to say their bread sticks and salad bar is always first rate. They keep it so clean despite the fact that no one eats any of it."
It was a little joke, and he motioned with his head to a very clean area indeed. The salad bar was probably the cleanest thing in the whole restaurant, with the display tray shiny and all the food sitting atop of it fresh and ready. Nothing had been touched all evening, save for maybe some croutons that a kid had grabbed to throw at his friends, and it looked more like a picture out of a display catalogue than a real booth.
"In order to grab anything from there we're still going to have to order a pizza, so anything you like in mind? I'm not much of a picky eater so I can handle anything except anchovies. Why anyone would want small oily fish on their food is beyond me."
KX-113 stuck his tongue out playfully to emphasize his point and almost to try and lighten the mood. The whole argument before between the sales clerk and the woman, as well as his want for a cigarette and his snapping at Adalia, had sort of placed a damper over things that he was determined to wipe away.
He hated stuffy situations, and tried to avoid them like the plague.

Shrugging, Adalia grinned sheepishly. She wasn't actually that hungry at all, but since KX was paying, she was more than willing to have at least a small salad. Definitely wouldn't eat any pizza, though, she just wasn't in the mood for it. As silly as that made it for her to have allowed him to drag her into a pizza place.
"Well, I'm not quite hungry enough for pizza." Laughing, she added, "But I do kind of want a small salad..." If they had all the ingredients for her 'perfect salad', she just might wind up eating a larger one. And try to make KX eat one, too! Fiach never ate the salads she concocted, or most of the food she picked out either, for that matter.
Frowning in thought she shrugged, "I really don't care what's on the pizza. I'm not going to eat any of it, anyway!" Sticking her own tongue out in response to KX' she laughed. For someone who was older than her, he sure was childish! That did make it fun to hang out with him, though...

"You're turning out to be a pretty cheap date, you know."
KX meant his words in pure jest, and he smiled at the last bit before he turned and made his way towards the counter to order himself a small pizza and two salad bars. As he approached near the counter, just a few people away from in in the line, he looked back over his shoulder at Adalia to double check, just in case she did end up eating the pizza anyway.
"I'm going to get a supreme with extra olives and onions, so you better not eat anything or you're going to regret it."
He sort of...shouted his warning across the room, as the counter was a good distance away from Addy, and several people turned to look at the man and at the woman he was yelling to or at (depending on the translation of the situation).
KX didn't mind the looks at all, instead he merely shot one back with his good eye at whoever managed to make direct eye contact. Quickly the heads turned back and the people went about whatever it was that they'd been doing before, and he chuckled to himself with a remote feeling of victory.
When he finally reached the counter and was able to order, KX smiled as he noticed the vendor was still the deaf teen from before. Taking note to tap the counter twice, as the boy had his hand on it but was looking away, he successfully garnered his attention before he started to place his order - in sign language.
"Got it?"
He ended the order verbally, and the boy behind the counter smiled brightly as he nodded and scampered off to order.

Grinning devilishly at the man's comment, Adalia laughed outright. It was his own fault she was being 'cheap', had he picked a nicer place, he might have found out she could pick some pretty expensive stuff out. Besides, she barely knew him, and was worried about doing anything to break the tiny bond that seemed to have begun to form between them. Merely shrugging as the faces turned to look at her when KX shouted, she sighed before shouting her response.
"I hadn't planned on eating pizza anyway. So get what you want, silly old man!"
Winking at a couple of the older ladies nearby, an action that made them start and walk off, muttering about young ladies these days. Watching KX use sign language with the young clerk, Adalia found herself grinning. He was such a sweet guy! The fact that he knew sign language surprised her only a little - after all, he'd known the boy was deaf earlier, so it would only make sense if he knew how to at least give him his order.
Unable to resist as she saw the boy scamper off, Adalia made her way to KX, throwing her arms around him in a hug before beaming up at him, "Thank you." Loosening her grip just a little, she laughed. If only those old ladies could see her now. They'd probably do more than mutter. Releasing her grip entirely, she frowned just a little, wondering what Dean would have said if he'd seen her hug KX. She was fairly sure he wouldn't, since KX reminded her of what her brother had been like at the fair, but...she still didn't know much about him. Like if he was the jealous type or not...
Glancing back up at KX, she grinned once more, "So, now what? Should we go grab a seat or were you going to wait up here...?"

KX had blanched a little, honestly, at first when Adalia had made her way over to him and suddenly placed her arms about his frame in a impromptu hug. Human contact for the man was few and far between, as his job didn't permit much touching and his other job involved him working alone for odd hours. Even when he went out into public places such as this, he wasn't touching anyone or being touched.
If KX wasn't such the person he was to that his personality had so many layers, he would have most certainly blushed at her touch and pushed her away. If he also wasn't who he was, he probably would have wrapped her back into a hug as well and sniffed at her hair, some sort of scent fetish as his reasoning.
But alas for Adalia, KX was himself and none other, and a huge grin broke across his face as his arms swooped down and around her body. She was so small and frail compared to him, even though he himself wasn't much larger and was still so wispy, but when he made to get her into a 'hug' or at least a hold she couldn't escape out from he chuckled at the difference in power between a man and a woman.
"Right-o, you've fallen into my trap it seems. I lower your guards with food and games, and when the time arises and you trust me enough I take full advantage of what you offer."
It was downright cryptic how he said things, enough to make anyone wonder if he'd been leading her on for some other purposes. But that wasn't in KX's nature, far from it, and as he made his way to lift the girl off her feet so he could tote her, KX dropped his gaze towards the monstrous ball pit in the distance.
She was going in.

A surprised noise managed to sound itself from her mouth when KX wrapped his arms around her. She hadn't been expecting that! He had seemed more like the type to stoically accept a hug, or push her away and call her annoying pest. Adalia's eyes widened just a little more as KX began to tease her with some cryptic statement or other. Surely he wasn't going to do anything, they were in a public place, so he was just poking fun at her. Although, now that she thought of it, there was plenty of stuff he could get her back with for all her teasing earlier here.
Even as she managed to hope he wouldn't pick her up, she felt his arms tighten as he moved to lift her. Without even meaning to, she squealed and flung her arms around his neck. If there was one thing Adalia didn't like, it was being picked up. She was always afraid someone was going to drop her, and especially after the net incident...getting dropped really didn't sound like much fun.
"You better not pick me up, you mean old man!"
As if that was helpful in distracting KX from whatever devious thoughts he had planned. Even as she muttered it at him, she knew she'd probably just doomed herself. Should have chosen a more stoic path, or at least not reacted like she had. Now she was sure to get teased for it, for quite some time to come!

"I'm not old, I'm still in my twenties."
As if that was the right remark to say, KX completely ignored Adalia's protests and firmly lifted her up, or at least enough off the ground that he could move in a set direction without dragging Adalia's feet. she wasn't being held like a princess or a sack of potatoes, instead it looked more like KX was trying to crack her back in several places. Crack, not break. Very important to remember.
"And your arguments are invalid. All requests of the captive shall be ignored post haste and considered to be nothing more than willful chatter."
It sounded like he'd said those words many a time before to several different people, but there was a huge amount of teasing a play-talk mixed in with the seemingly threatening words. As if KX would really hurt someone....right?
With Adalia successfully up enough that he could move, KX slowly started his trek across the restaurant and to the ball pit that loomed before him. People are him lifted their heads and stared, their attentions fully brought to this 'couple' at their entrance or so it seemed, and KX could only smile at them in his most reassuring manner. He knew half of the people there, more or less, so it wasn't like he was being stupid in front of strangers.
With his destination finally reached through a bit of a struggle (Adalia wouldn't stop moving or whining about being put down), KX moved so that he could open the net that surrounded the balls with the tip of his foot. This was no easy task as the weight of his own body plus another nearly knocked him down once he lifted his foot from the ground, but thankfully he only had to do it within a moments time.
"Alright, in you go."
KX now moved more so that he could actually lift Adalia up and toss her, his hands poised to send her through the air and into the pit.

Sighing as the man threw a line at her about how he wasn't old, she shrugged from where she was clutched to his neck. "That's still older than me, so I can still call you old!" She was going to pout up at him, to see if that might help her convince him not to lift her when the man picked her up anyway. Her arms tightened round her neck as she resisted the urge to wrap her legs around him to prevent him from dropping her. As it was, she squealed several times and threw random and pointless threats at him hoping he wasn't going to throw her into anything, at the very least.
It was embarrassing enough being manhandled through the building, but to be thrown into something...that would be worse. Way worse.
Her fingers tightened against his neck as he said that all requests would be ignored, and she sighed, "Must you always talk as if you're with a robot?" If she wasn't so intent on holding on to avoid being dropped, she would have given him a light whack on the shoulder. Playful enough to not get her into trouble, but with a solid glare to show that he was being annoying enough.
Turning her head just enough to see what KX was doing, her eyes widened in surprise as she realized they were at the ball pit. No way the man was going to throw her in there! Red faced from blushing at the embarrassment of it all, she clutched to his neck even harder as he lifted her well enough to throw her. Curling up into a ball, and pressing herself as tightly as she could up against him, she managed to mutter from where her face was buried in the crook of his neck, "No way I'm letting go so that you can throw me in there!"

KX sighed as Adalia tightened her grip about his neck with her arms, and he had to admit he blushed a small bit as she pressed against him when he tried to lift her up more. It was a little unnerving and a lot of annoying to have her clinging to him the way she was, mostly due to the fact he couldn't pry her off and toss her without either or them suffering some form of injury.
So he did the next best thing, and simply jumped hard enough and took them both into the ball pit. He made sure though, in his jump, that he turned enough so his back hit the balls before the rest of the duo did, as if he wanted to break the fall in. He knew her getting smashed under his weight would hurt far more than KX being crushed by Adalia.
It was the lesser of two evils, and now that they were in the pit and there was nothing Adalia could do about it but get up and get out, KX let her go.
"Told you."
