"Yeah, there are. Like squirrels, rabbits, bugs and all." He grinned. Still, living with his mother in Remus's house showed him a lot more creatures that he had known all his life, although he knew they were not kitsusagi, or at least, didn't exactly belong. "I suppose annoying little kits don't count?" He offered, with a teasing grin. He had no idea if she had met the flower brigade, but still. Those pests seemed to pop up from nowhere at all.

"Uh...well..." He stammered, a little shocked at her question. "See, it's not really easy to explain, especially on my daddy's side..." Like the time he had tried to explain Heartless and Nobodies to Yuffie; the ninja hadn't seemed to comprehend. "To be brief, it's like during the full moon, I...well, don't have feelings." He said gently. "And I don't wanna hurt anyone. Let's just say I couldn't even be bothered about my own mother." Which had hurt Ayako that time, and even though they both knew he didn't mean it, it still made him guilty whenever he thought of it.

Orta was positively delighted to hear there were other wonderful little creatures to see like the birds. She determined quite firmly that she was going to do her best to see all of them when the weather permitted. Her ears went back self-consciously at his stuttering, though, worried she might have said something inappropriate. However, his informative, if not particularly descriptive, explanation did it's job and she relaxed. "Ah... like the... floating girl that lives with the people that took me in." Or was it? Bryna had gone on and on about her siblings and cousins, but there was no real way to tell if Xanul was honestly like her. "Or... maybe not. There are so many strange things here..." She fiddled at the end of her scarf. "But yes, I will try to do what you asked."

"Floating...girl?" Xanul repeated after her, looking slightly confused. That sounded familiar. A floating girl, that was a Nobody as well.... He blinked, the name coming to him. "Cousin Bryna?" He uttered, eyes wide. "Uh yeah, she's my grandmother's sis's kid. I think she's supposed to be my aunt, but she prefers to be called cousin." Golden eyes twinkled, relieved that she had agreed.

"I take it you haven't met any crazy kits?" He asked, a grin on his maw.

Orta's eyes also widened a bit. So Xanul did know the Bryna girl! What a peculiarly fortuitous coincidence. "Bryna, yes. She's the one that suggested I try coming here..." She smiled faintly. "And... well, I wouldn't know much about how family ties work. I've never had any..."

Her head tilted quizzically at the repeated mention of crazy kits. "Does the little Shoom-thing that follows Bryna around count? There are kits at that house, but they seem more rambunctious than crazy. You... would be the first person I've met outside there." So if he meant someone else from around here... she'd have no idea.

Ahhh. So she had met Bryna. His golden gaze flickered slightly and he jerked up in surprise. "You don't have any family?" He blurted out, then realizing that he sounded a little harsh, gave a sheepish, unsure smile. "I mean...I've got a huge family, so I guess I take it for granted that others do." He sighed, black tails waving slowly in the wind. "Sorry." He added after a pause.

"Uh well..." He scratched his head with a paw. "I've never met Shoom, but I think I'll have to say with assurance that Tuuli, Lace and their flower brigade are crazier. I mean, they keep insisting I'm an evil prince, just because my dad's grumpy and all."

Orta blinked confusedly at Xanul's outburst and her ears flicked back self-consciously before he'd finished ammending what he'd said. "I... had a mother, once... but she died long before anything I can remember. The first thing I remember is being locked up." She shrugged, trying to be indifferent about it. Though it did hurt... not necessarily not having known the only family she'd ever had, but just the horrible lonely feeling she had. Even the very few friends she had made were lost to her here... and she just didn't trust easily enough to replace them easily.

Orta blinked once again when Xanul finished telling her about the "flower brigade", though this time she actually relaxed a bit due to her perplexion on the matter. "Evil Prince? ...Because they don't like your father's attitude? That... doesn't make any sense." She knew children played games of such things from time to time... but to take those things seriously? Perhaps there was something wrong with those kits he spoke of.

She smiled faintly after a moment though. "If my old companion were here... I wonder what they would make of me? If they dislike evil princes I can't imagine they'd like someone who has a dragon for a friend..." Though her faint smile turned into a despondent sigh and a gentle frown. She missed the dragon... and she'd lost the dragon's child before she ever arrived here, she was certain. It... pained her.

Xanul remained silent, clamping his jaw shut as he listened to her talk about her mother, not wanting to say something totally unnecessary and hurtful.

"Uhhh..." He blinked rather nervously. "I guess it mostly because he's a Nobody...but I don't think they know that though." The last part was mostly for himself, as he muttered it under his breath. "They are a little crazy though, especially the blue one called Tuuli, who thinks she's a princess and Lace, a grey and pink one." The two seemed to like annoying him with the evil heir to a kingdom...but in actual fact, that should've been his elder brother. Xelon was lucky he hadn't met them, he thought to himself.

"A dragon?" Xanul's mouth dropped open in surprise. "Woaahhhh." He had read about them, but he never believed that he would see one. "I thought dragons aren't tamed easily." He said in bemusement.

Nobody. Like the Bryna girl was half-Nobody. So Xanul was too? She really didn't understand the hows and whyfors of it exactly, though it did perhaps make a little more sense to her than it might to others if only because she could imagine such things being possible due to bio-engineering if nothing else. "Well... I suppose I shall try to avoid them if I can manage it. They sound... headache inducing."

She blinked again at his reaction to her mention of the dragon, though this time with less suprise. That was a reaction she might have expected even on her world... though it was usually mingled with a lot more fear. When he mentioned dragons being tamed, however, she smiled gently and shook her head. "Not tamed... the dragon found me. Helped me to escape and protected me from the people who were after me."

Though she had encountered differences in ideals about dragons already... since Caim also had a dragon companion, and even the Aons had some kind of dragon on their world that they said was a "massive fiend". She hadn't really found out much about that yet, but... "Where I am from... all the creatures are descendants of bio-engineered weapons. Or the original weapons, though they are quite rare. The Ancients warred with another to the point that the world was nearly destroyed and humanity all but wiped out. I've heard there are some... cats and dogs left, but I've never seen them. Mostly the only natural creatures left are the humans themselves..."

Hopefully... that would explain why she kept reacting to things so strangely, and help avoid further confusion when she mentioned things like the dragon. It was easier to simply explain now and avoid the multitude of questions that might later show up. She'd had quite enough of that from some of the more energetic residents at the Place... she didn't mind some company, but Shoom in particular had no regard for personal space or her requests to be left alone for a while...

"You'd better." He nodded, grinning at the memory when Lace had demanded him to confess his treason, or whatever. Though annoying, it was rather amusing as well, really.

"It...helped you?" Golden eyes blinked in confusion. "From what I know, or read from grandad's library, dragons are considered quite dangerous." He couldn't imagine a wild dragon swooping down to help, unless help meant tearing you apart and treating you as dinner.

"Animals from weapons?" He echoed, brow furrowing. Different worlds seemed be very different, even though they had same creatures in them. Whoa, this past life thing is really confusing. "That's kinda...interesting." He said nervously. Somehow, her world scared him.

Orta shifted self-consciously. "It is... rather strange, actually. I have no idea why the dragon chose me... but there was something it had to accomplish, and I was the one it needed to do that. From... what I understand they were designed to have to have a human companion to function effectively." She shrugged. "It's... been hundreds of years at least. Nobody really knows all the reasons why things are the way they are..."

She nodded. "They... altered the genes of animals, and even created entirely new patterns to make the creatures they wanted. They are animals and weapons. Armor plating... acid bombs. Rains of feathers that are actually blades... Not all of them are dangerous, some have been domesticated as beasts of burden and the like, but out in the wilds..." She shuddered slightly, remembering some close calls she had had in the past. Xanul had every right to be afraid of the things in her world. And she really didn't want to mention that the mother she spoke of was one of the humanoid Drone servants the Ancients had created...

"Why don't you tell me about this world, Xanul?" She looked up at him hopefully. She did miss her friends, and the dragon, but aside from those few people there was really nothing in her old world that she would even think about going back to. Hopefully... this new world would live up to the promise it seemed thus far to hold. Peace... and maybe a chance to learn happiness. And maybe eventually to be part of that elusive ideal of a family...

He listened to her explanations silently, his tails giving a slight flicker or two. Somehow, this made him shudder. Creating animals and modifying them as if they were robots. It was like...controlling them. What about the ethics of life? He thought unhappily to himself. Well, at least, it didn't happen here. It sounded rather selfish of him, but he wouldn't like to see anyone being controlled that way. No matter if they were friend or foe. "They are used for...war?" He whispered. He had heard of it before. Grim had told him about death; people killing each other because of greed, selfishness, not much that he could really understand.

"Well, we are free kitsus here." He grinned. "There's the normal kitsus, and then some with wings, and many more that come from past lives, like you do. Mostly, they all settle down here peacefully. Lots of people are pretty nice really; I met the Grim Reaper once. He's quite cool."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 25, 2007 9:06 am

Orta sighed softly. "The wars were long ago... beyond memory if not for the ruins and the legacy of a nearly destroyed world. The empire tried to revive the technology... but they were stopped. But the creatures have long remained... they are wild now. Basically."

All free. It chimed like a triumphant bell in her mind. She smiled again, softly, and listened, though she once more canted her head at the end. "The... Grim Reaper?" Most lore was lost on her world but for a handful of altered fairytales.

He nodded at this, but still, he felt sorry for the creatures...in a way, they were to be pitied. "Yeah. He's Death, and he's all skeletony and stuff. He's quite cool, really." He said thoughtfully. "I mean, people think he's scary and all, but he does talk logic about dying. He mentioned people that killed others for money, love and power. Which I don't get, actually."
PostPosted: Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:07 pm

At Xanul's description of Grim, Orta could only smile in an apologetic manner. Skeletony? An entity that was... Death? It was a difficult concept for her to envision. Or perhaps she couldn't bring herself to. She had seen... rather a lot of death. She didn't really want to think about more of it.

"To kill... to war... for selfish gain. I do not really understand it, either. Though I have seen it... and the long term results of it. All it does in the end is destroy." She shook her head with a sigh. "You would think people could learn from the mistakes of the past, would you not?"

She stood up then and sort of marched in place. She was starting to feel the chill in the air and the ground, sitting still like that for so long. Her chain jangled quietly and she paused to look at it. "Fighting to save others... Is something I do understand, though." Her friends who had saved her from her own dark and ugly anger, who had shown her there was good in the world. They were worth protecting.

It had been a little strange for him to meet the Reaper, but that was when he was a kit, and his innocent kiddish mind thought nothing much of it except that the fact that it was cool. Now older, Xanul had mused over it in his much more mature thoughts. He sighed. "Well, I hope war never happens here then. I don't think it will, but you'll never know what might happen."

He glanced at her as she stood up, shaking his paws a little to get rid of the cramps that were forming, and listened to her with a small smile. "I guess. I'd fight anytime for my family or friends."
