Amuriel shifted again and looked down at her feet, "No. Not really.. I'm just not used to Di'jai is all. I haven't been back for very long at all."
She sighed and rubbed her arm absently, staring at his feet before raising her gaze to his eyes again. They were strange eyes, dark red and now considering her with... curiosity? Could she tell him, or should she just leave now...? Should she tell him? Would he look down on her? .. could he help her? Fidgeting slightly, she glanced over his shoulder as if looking for a means of escape, nervous.

Maelthra watched her after she had given her answer, waiting awhile before responding again. She now seemed a bit flighty, as if she really wanted to get away or something like that. Deciding that it would be best to not push her much more on the matter, he just nodded slightly.
"Well... there's still nothing really long with that... I know there are others that have traveled away from the forest before. And being one who can travel easily through the air, I've done so myself in the past."
Turning his gaze away from her to look more towards the north.
"Some strange lands and people out there... that's for sure..." he whispered more to himself than to her.

Relaxing as he seemed to relate to her, Amuriel let out a quiet breath and followed his gaze to the north, now not feeling as eager to find an escape route.
"You've been out there too? To the human lands..?" she asked quietly, lifting her head and turning to him curiously again. Perhaps he was more like her than she had thought. Maybe he would not judge her as badly as she thought, or maybe Di'jai itself wouldn't persecute her like she believed.
"Yes.. it was very strange out there.. I never really enjoyed any place other than here, in this forest."

Nodding at her question, he took a few seconds before looking back at her and debating on how much detail he wanted to go into. There were some things about his journey that he couldn't quite recall at the moment, but what had happened to him while he vacationed away from Di'jai were certainly interesting.
"Yeah I have... It's where I got my clothes and weapons from really. The humans... they're very.. odd... and I definitely prefer the forest more than their strange cities... but it was an interesting experience there.. that's for sure..."
Trailing off for a moment, he shook his head lightly before examining her once again.
"I take it that is where you got your own clothing as well..?" he asked.

Amuriel let out a sigh of relief and relaxed completely, glancing more over his clothing and weapons, "Odd is definitely a good way to call the humans.."
She shook her head and wrapped her arms around herself absently, thinking back to where she just came back from. "Yes, I was in the human world. It wasn't as pleasant as I had hoped, but I did at least learn a few things."
Thinking to herself, she wondered exactly how much she should tell him, or how much he would tell her even if she did begin to trust him more. She didn't have anywhere to go tonight, and she wondered if he could stay and bother to tell her more about the forest... or himself. He seemed kind enough, and she was lonely. It wouldn't hurt to have at least one friend in this vast forest, she thought.
"Would you care to talk with me for a while? I would like to get caught up on what has happened." she asked tentatively, fingering one of the sheer bands on her arm.

Maelthra nodded at both her comment and at her question. Having someone around for once to chat with wasn't a bad idea, as he could always be off on his own to train at any time. So he stretched out slightly before glancing at the lake, then back at Amuriel.
"I wouldn't mind. Though I have to say that not a lot has happened in the forest recently. It's mainly just little events between small groups of dragonflies I guess you could say."
After saying this he thought back to try and think if there were really any big events that had happened but there wasn't much that came to mind.
"Though.. I have to say that.. there seems to kinda be an influx of abandoned pups recently... Maybe it's always been like that but it just seems like there's quite a bit out there like that now.."

"So not much has changed then.." Amuriel muttered, almost to herself. "Then maybe it won't be so hard getting acclimated again."
She watched him stretch and realized her own legs were beginning to stiffen. Yawning softly, she sat down on the soft grass beneath her and motioned for him to join her.
"Abandoned pups... that saddens me to hear. With the amount of adult dragonfly I have seen since I returned, I would have thought that families would be more commonplace than abandonment."
Frowning, she rubbed her forehead and pulled her legs up to her chin again, wrapping her arms around them. She wondered why he brought up pups. Maybe he had a family of his own.. or pups of his own that he had abandoned.. but he didn't seem to be the type to leave something so defenseless. She wanted to ask him, but she was afraid the question would prove to be too offensive. Keeping her thoughts to herself, she rested her head against her knees and watched Maelthra's reflection in the surface of the lake.

As Amuriel sat down onto the soft and moist dirt and grass, Maelthra glanced down at her gesture and sat down beside her. While doing so, he adjusted his sword so that it wouldn't jut right into the ground while he sat. A few moments of silence went by, then he gazed over towards the female elder with a bit of hesitation.
"Well... it might not be so much more common than it was before... It could have just been coincidence that I seemed to run into a number of them at once.. I hope it isn't though... growing up on your own isn't exactly the greatest thing..."
Shaking his head lightly he just let out a small sigh at the thought. And for a moment, he wondered if Amuriel had a family that she had left when she left Di'jai. He doubted she was the type to do so, but there was always that chance.
"Speaking of which... is there anyone in the forest that you need to be returning to..?"

"Hm?" Amuriel started slightly as he mentioned something about growing up alone. The tone of his voice seemed to imply something, and she dared to press it. "You sound as though you know what that is like.."
She turned her head towards him and regarded him carefully. He was out here by himself, late at night, practicing his techniques. Perhaps he was a loner much like she was, and maybe he had good reason for it.
Chuckling softly as he questioned her, she shook her head. "No, there's no one here that I am returning to. There was no one here for me to leave in the first place. I left the forest in my youth, so I left before I ever had a chance to find someone, and I never had any close friends to begin with. So no. I don't have anyone," she replied, watching him carefully to see how he responded to this. Now, she thought, she could ask her own question without fear of causing him to leave.. or so she hoped. "What about yourself...? Is there anyone you should be returning to now...?"

Maelthra had waited for her to finish speaking before saying anything in response. Shifting a bit before glancing down at his elven reflection in the water, he let out a small sigh while deciding to go ahead and tell her more of himself. After all, she was a lot like him in that regard, and it was always nice to be able to relate with others.
"Like you said... I know what it's like growing up alone. I pretty much have no memory of my family whatsoever, and when I had left the forest as a young adult, there was no one to leave. No one to come back to. And the latter hasn't changed at all. It... doesn't really bother me a whole lot, but I have to admit that I feel jealous for those who have close ones..."
As he thought on it more, he did feel more of a longing to not be so alone in his life. Which was probably why he really tried not to think about it much. It may even be a reason why he tends to busy himself with training on his own, as he would be too busy focusing on his practice to really let his mind wander to other things.

"Then.. we're a lot alike in that regard.." Amuriel mumbled, turning her head from him and watching him again on the water. He was alone, and so was she. Maybe he had some of the same feelings she did.. maybe he didn't want to be so alone just as she didn't want to be alone.
Most of her life had been spent in solitude, and she had been fine with that for the most part. Looking back, she didn't have any regrets about leaving Di'jai because she had no one to leave, and as she wandered the human countries and came in contact with the nomadic peoples, she still did not form companionships. She had had a few acquaintances, but that was all. No strong bonds of friendship, comraderie, or love. By the time she had become an adult, even the parental warmth of her puphood was gone from her.
She had no one then, and she had no one now. But as she aged, she began to feel a need for companionship, for someone to talk to and relate with. She didn't understand... why now when she had been so satisfied before?
Shaking her head, she let escape a soft whimper and pressed her chin against her knees. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to try to form new bonds, and this elder seemed nice enough.
It only takes one hand to reach out, she thought to herself. Maelthra... she wondered, could you be my first companion?

Nodding slowly from Amuriel's mumblings, the elder felt him mind drift more into pondering his own situation. While he had a few friendly acquaintances, such as Cayliant and others, there really wasn't anyone around that he could really call a friend or something closer. And with this, he felt a chill run through his body as a wave of loneliness overcame him.
Shaking his head, he heard a soft whimper from his side, snapping him from his thoughts. Maelthra glanced over at her to see her curl up lightly in her spot.
"Those who are alike... should stick together I think... Because otherwise everyone would be alone," he said softly.
He figured that she could relate to him enough that he wouldn't feel awkward around. So with that said, he more or less offered his friendship to her, which was a bit of an odd thought to him.
I just met her now too...

Amuriel relaxed somewhat and turned back to him, startled by his words. "That's a good philosphy. You and I are much alike.." she replied, watching for his reaction.
Had he really just offered to be her friend? She hoped so. They shared a common solitude, and his personality seemed kind and caring. Glancing down at her feet, she wondered if either one of these traits was the reason why she was beginning to feel increasingly at ease with him. She had difficulty relating and opening up with others, but he seemed to draw something out of her.. a desire to have someone close. Now, since she felt as though a bond were forming, and she hoped it would never break.
And I don't even really know him yet...

"So... we should probably stick together then."
While he spoke, Maelthra had somewhat of a smirk. It wasn't one that held any malice in it however. If anything it was slightly more on a playful side. So after gazing at her a little more, he leaned back on his arms and stared up at the sky.
There was a sense of relief that he felt just then. He hadn't really noticed it much but for a long time he had been fairly restless which was probably from being in solitude for a really long time. Being on his own was nice in its own way, but there was just the feeling of having something missing. And now that he had found someone to relate with, he seemed to have struck a balance of some sort with himself.
And what had amused him was that neither of them had even seen each other's true form yet.

Smiling slightly, Amuriel nodded and pushed herself closer to him. "Yeah, we should definitely stick together."
Closing her eyes, she tried to capture his moment in her mind's eye. She was content. This Maelthra, even though she did not know him very well yet, had just become her first friend. It was an amazing feeling, lifting her mood to elation and the happiest point she had been in a very long time.
She pulled her arms away from her legs and stretched out on the ground next to him, staring up at the night sky as she finally felt a tingle of hope within her life return to her.
