Jubs snatched the peice of fruit out of the air, slighty annoyed that the kid hadn't reciprocated with two peices of fruit for the two bags of jerky. but then again, that's what he got for going soft on the streets.
He peeled the orange, mostly by biting into it and spitting the peel away. "Name's Jubs. It doesn't have a meaning, just something I picked up in Downers."

The pig-boy's eyes went wide in awe. "Downers? For real? You've lived down there?" In the realm of mid-level school kids, real live denizens of the lower reaches were practically objects of folklore. They were rough, they lived on their own terms, and parents disliked them, thus making them fascinating for mid-level boys like Koa.
"Do you fight a lot of monsters down there? Have you ever been outside the city?"

For the real live denizens of Downers, it wasn't something to be romanticized. It was hard for him to comprehend even a fasination for it. "Most of my life, yeah. No many other places for me to live looking like this." There was no keeping the bitterness from his voice, and Hermes wisely didn't speak up.
"The only monsters I fought lived in Uppers. And you don't get outside the city. You just go deeper in Downers."

Koa paid little mind to the bitterness lacing Jubs' words, too caught up with his own boyish vision of the undercity life, painted with righteous outlaws, rough and ready street brawlers, and the other things of childish stories. He wanted to likewise appear tough, as this boy seemed to be, so Koa quickly buried as much of his outward expression of curiosity, adopting an indifferent air and forced casual pose as he sat back against the wall, but it was like wearing clothing a size too large, it sagged in places and left parts exposed.
Before he could tap the numerous questions bubbling inside, the sound of feet and angry voices in the near vicinity caught both the boys' animalistic ears. Koa grimaced in frustration and pushed up to his feet, gathering his goods up in his arms, as much as he could carry. He wasn't about to risk getting caught. Looking at Jubs, he gave the boy a nod of kinship and casual thanks. "Seeya, then!" he said and jogged the other way down the alley, leaving the other god-touched to fend for himself.
