(It's okay. I saw your post in the main thread.)
"I'd never thought about it that way," He remarked about her falling philosophy. He looked over to her as she mentioned biting her tail. "I'm afraid I can't do that, Vara." He laughed a bit, "Even with permission.."
He didn't know how he would get Vara over the edge if she did stall, he certainly couldn't force her to jump. The best he'd be able to do is charge at her in hopes of scaring her enough to jump.
Scythe looked around, "It's not far now. When we get there, the best thing you can do...Don't look over the edge first." His voice was confident and reassuring. "You'll have to trust me when I tell you there's nothing below that can hurt you."
This particular cliff had no rocks or jagged edges that she could land on. It was the highest drop, but the only danger was a possible heart attack.

"Don't look over the edge, eh?" She could only laugh with incredulity at the thought. "If any other stallion told me to leap off a cliff without looking where my hooves would land I'd tell them to find another mare." She thought she could hear the slight gurgle of running water in the distance. They must be getting close.
"You, though..." She danced a few steps in front of him and threw him a coy smile from over one shoulder. "I'd close my eyes and jump if you assured me I would find land on the other side. You have... something of an air of trustworthiness about you. It's an admirable trait." In the back of her mind she knew she was teasing him to get her mind off the upcoming plunge. That and he was quite the cute one to tease. He took it better than most stallions would and she couldn't possible resist that.

"I wouldn't lead you to harm, Vara." He did his best to reassure her. He lifted his head, he could smell the scent of the lake not far ahead of them.
He almost blushed as she spoke about jumping if he told her to. He couldn't remember meeting anyone, besides the young foal that he use to take jumping, that trusted him so much. His chest puffed up just a -little- bit with pride.
As they walked the trail they had been following for a short while began to open up into a clearing. On the horizon was a definate ledge. "We've made it, Vara." He smiled to her then stopped several yards from the edge.
"Are you sure?" he danced a bit from side to side. He was excited to be able to share this experience with her. He had taken quite the liking to Vara and wanted to share with her the feeling of being almost weightless. "This is your last chance to change your mind." he winked at her as he waited for her reply.

She eyed the edge. She couldn't see how far it was down and that was a comfort and a terror. Her heart pounded in her ears and Scythe's voice seemed to come from far away. She was going to do it. Part of her mind disdained her silly fears. She was hardly a filly anymore. She ought to be braver than this. She chanted calming words in her mind until they drowned out her frets and fears.
"I'm ready." Her voice was steady and measured. "So, I just hurl myself off the edge and think thoughts of flight, is that it?"

Scythe was as few steps in front of Vara, he nodded and took a few steps back out of her way.
"Remember, all you have to do, is jump." He knew that wasn't near as easy as it sounded. He hadn't told Vara, but he'd be jumping right behind her. He'd be gliding his way down, but he wanted to watch her as she got to experience this one small piece of freedom from being tied to the soil beneath her hooves.
"I'll count down if you're ready," He nickered encouragingly at her

"I'm ready." She said the words firmly and as convincingly as she could, both for Scythe's sake and her own. One hoof restlessly pawed the ground before she quickly stilled it. She was ready. It was silly to fear what wouldn't hurt her. She was going to fly. Fly through the air for one long glorious moment before splashing into cool waters. She closed her eyes for a moment and tried to envision what it would feel like.
"Yes, I'm ready," she repeated, this time believing it.

She said she was ready, so it was time.
"3....
2.....
1!" Scythe called to her loudly. His own muscles flinched and tightened in anticipation. He'd be taking off after her as soon as she passed him. He hoped she didn't skid to a stop at the ledge because he'd probably run over her if he got to full speed. He had no intentions of stopping.

She charged forward, pink hooves striking the ground with reckless force. The edge of the cliff came closer, closer! She had built up enough momentum that by the time she could see over the edge it was too late to stop even if she had wanted to. She had the foresight to leap over to avoid hitting against anything while falling... and then, she fell.
Her legs flailed instinctively, looking for solid ground to land on. When none was found they froze motionless in the air. Her long mane whipped like a banner behind her head and the wind whistled shrilly in her ears. Though she was hurtling downwards she could have sword she was floating. In the back of her mind she marveled at it's strangeness, a moment spent hanging in air that would soon be dashed against the smooth surface of water.

Scythe's hooves dug into the earth as Vara passed him on her way to the edge. 'Atta, girl!' he thought to himself as he thundered forward.
At the ledge he jumped out as far as he could, his wings extended, a wide and beautiful show of feathers. He looked down as Vara seemed to relax and stop moving her legs so much.
"Close your eyes and imagine!!" He yelled down to her as he glided slowly after her. He wanted her to pretend she was actually flying before she hit the water below.

Vara's eyes flickered shut and then it was just her and the sensation. Flying. She wasn't falling, it was the movement forward she was feeling. She could almost believe it. She could believe it. It was terrible and wonderful and frightening and blissful. All of this was contained in one moment, one moment that ended in a splash.
Vara's eyes shot open to see bubbles rising all around her and her cry of surprise was swallowed by the water. For a moment she was too stunned to do anything, just float there with her mane drifting by her face and her lungs wondering why no fresh air was coming to them. Then, she snapped out of it. Her back legs found the bottom and she kicked upwards, breaking through the surface with a gasp.

Scythe smiled and laughed as Vara relaxed enough to close her eyes and just feel the moment. As soon as she hit the water Scythe folded his wings into his body causing him to plummet down next to her.
His eyes closed until he resurfaced, he was still smiling when he broke the watery horizon. "You did it!" He cheered her as he treaded in the water. His eyes looked over her water covered coat and her long mane floating around her. She looked absolutely stunning to him in that moment.
"You flew, Vara! You did it." He nickered and nuzzled her neck lightly in congratulations. "Come on, lets get to shore." He could swim, but not for too long. Their bodies were too heavy to stay in the deep too long.

For once Vara didn't try to calm the pounding of her heart. Instead she let it beat, each beat keeping her heart high in the sky even while she pushed herself through the water. When her hooves touched rock and sand beneath them she splashed into the shallows. What would she say? What could she say about such an experience?
Words wouldn't come but laughter would. She laughed until she ran out of breath and then sucked it in so she could laugh some more. She felt like a filly again, running through the grass without a care in the world. "Scythe," she finally managed. "Thank you." She gave his neck a nuzzle back and lost herself in laughing for another moment.

Vara had the perfect reaction, it made Scythe happy to see that she 'felt' what he had been talking about. He waded along next to her in the shallow waters as she laughed, his own face beaming with happiness.
"You're welcome, Ace." He poked small fun at her and winked. As she went into another spat of laughter, Scythe had the craziest thought. The thought of just spontaneously kissing her quickly before the 'high' ran out. " No, that'd be rude...You can't do that."
Scythe shook his head at the though, what was he thinking?

Vara shook her head, amused at her own giddiness. She had to calm down, at least a little. It wouldn't do to become hysterical with laughter until she passed out. She let herself have a last fit of giggles before taking a deep breath and flipping her dripping mane out of her face.
"That was amazing. Truly amazing. One of the most amazing things I've ever done in my life and I have you to thank for it." It felt like it had been so long since she had done something purely out of the desire to do it and so long since she had been this happy.

"It was merely a suggestion on my part, you were the one who took the iniciative to return to jump." Scythe continued to smile. Seeing Vara so happy was the highlight of his Spring.
"Now, no one can tell you that you don't know what it's like to fly," He looked to the sky then over to Vara, "You've flown, if only for a few moments."
His eyes watched as water trickled down her mane and fell to the lake's surface. She was dazzling and she didn't even know it. He tried to be as non-chalant about his next question as he could, not sure exactly how to ask without sounding rude or too nosey, "So, how long will you be staying around the area this venture?"
