Rummaging through his pile of belongings, which had slowly accumulated in the corner, Tristin searched for a particular item to entertain him. "Ah!" Smiling as it was finally unearthed, he tugged the ragged binder out from the stack before wandering to his bed, sliding onto it.

Laying on his chest, he propped himself up on an elbow as he flicked open the book, pulling the pencil from it's spine. Having finally found another who was halfway interesting, Tristin was intent on keeping track of him. Thus, the founding of The Book. A collection of the two's musings, idiocy, and whinings. It seemed likely that anyone who even partially enjoyed randomness would simply love the book.

Finally recalling that he had been bored out of his mind for a good time now, Tristin decided to log a new entry. This one about the upcoming holiday, in particular.

And thus, pencil in hand, the young one wrote.

------------------------------

Valentine's Day is nearing.

I don't know much about it, but it seems rather pointless. Giving chocolate and hearts to the one you like? I don't see any reason for it. Why designate a day to do it? If you love them, wouldn't a gift at any time of the year be just as good? Especially if it's better than chalky chocolates and paper hearts.

Maybe I'm just bitter. I have nobody that I'd consider my valentine. You know of my interests, and that doesn't help. Especially since all the girls around are idiots, too. Giggling and bouncing and all things of the sort. Really, a number of them are a mystery to me.

Heh... I'll take a wild guess that you wouldn't have a valentine yet either, eh? Though it's a way off, I'll claim you early. You're better than nobody, eh?

Da' frightens me sometimes... He can go from downright miserable to a frakking bouncing heap in a moment's time. It's a disconcerting sight. Though... I guess I can't blame him for trying to cheer up. Him and his... Well, I'm not sure what she is. But I don't like her. But still, the two had a fight, it seems. Or as close as it'll come with those two. Da's idiocy, and her gentleness came together in one big, whimpering pity-fest. Another disconcerting sight. I'm rather glad this house has thick walls. After sitting in the kitchen through a bit of it, I got tired of it quickly. It's a pity Da's room is the furthest from the living room, though. Decided to hide in there while it went on.

So... It finished up, apparently without too many problems. The two came in, snugged, and well... Buggered. Disgusting thought, I know. It wasn't so bad, with Mr. Mako about. At least there was something pleasant to watch, then. But, still... another evacuation was in order. This time, to my room. I'm rather fortunate Gully left his TV once he left. At least that could drown out most of the noises that came with their activities. Really, I am regretting letting that woman stay around. I'd say it seems she's been training Da' in how to make the most piercing sounds possible. Which I hate. But... TV was on. So I settled, and bared with it. I'm not even sure what I had watched. Some sort of cartoon. Same type Da' and the woman watch at times. I hated it. Though I recognized one of the shows from somewhere. I will have to search for the relation, of course.

And finally, after they had finished their playing, Da' came bouncing into the room. He gave no reason, he just wandered in and plopped down. He stank of her. "I hate her." The first thing out of my mouth. And of course, he replied in his usual idiocy. "Aww! And I love you, too!" Moron. I did my best to ignore him after that, but he wouldn't relent. I finally had to comply with what he wanted, and give over a candy bar I had stashed away. The only one I got on V day that wasn't absolutely disgusting. So... I'm lacking energy now.

Hmm... I still haven't returned The Book to Jacob yet. Rather sad, I must say. I was wondering what his reaction would be to my closing. As the time had passed, I decided to scribble it out. No use keeping it in if I won't get a response. I'm thinking on writing another entry before I return it, though. This time, love in general. It's a rather useless thing, I must say. Especially if it creates sap stories like the earlier event. Really, I should look into that, too. Serious research needed. Perhaps the work should begin tomorrow.

My research has concluded. Though it's been bothersome work, I've done my best to look at everything having to do with love. And overall, it doesn't seem worth it. It seems there are far too many things that could go wrong. Also, too much control is lost. I've watched Da' when he's seperated from the woman, and when they're together. It's a rather drastic difference between the two. Away, he's rather lackluster, not doing anything at all to allow himself to stand out. In fact, he's even less motivated than when Mr. Mako was around. It is sad, really. When they're near though, he suddenly perks. No matter his mood before, he's instantly up again. Only problem to this is he'll bend to every whim of the person, going to do anything for her. Though I haven't observed others, if they all exhibit these symptoms, its a rather chronic disease which is being aided in it's spread. The extents Da' had gone for love are annoying, truthfully.

I've not just focused in Da', though. I've also looked in on her. Though that was a much less interesting experience, there is still a stark line between her two states. When away, she whines quite often over her inability to contact Da'. Also, if anything seperates them for even a moment unexpectedly, she goes into overdrive, whining and wailing over everything nearby as she waits for the problem to resolve. Hmm... Her state when he's around is a bit better than Da's. She will stil whine and not do everything without complaint for Da'. If I fall in love, I hope to be like that. I'd much prefer having my own mind over being led by another.

So, I am to document any excess observations after this point in The Book. I will return it in a time, but I would like to be sure all observations are correct, rather than momentary reactions to the events. But from study so far, that seems unlikely.

Yours,
Tristin

Jotting down a last note into a margin to remind himself of a small event, he tucked the book back into place, keeping it hidden from the remaining occupants of the house. Sighing as he sat up, Tristin stretched lazily as he glanced about, frowning slightly as the thump that signalled his Da's arrival back home and another session of buggering sounded. The girl had tackled him just as he got through the doorway, yet again. Nearly each time, he was smacked into something in her excitement. It sounded like it was the wall this time. It was rather amazing no permanent damage had been done so far, and only a few items broken.

Tristin flopped back onto his bed as the two talked, only one of their voices effectively piercing the walls.

"Ooh! What'd you get? What is it~!" The girl was whining. As usual. Then, the muffled sound of his Da', followed quickly by a reply.

"Hmm? Aww! I'm sure he'll love it! That's beautiful~!" Another thump for another hug. A slight wonder who 'he' may be.

This continued for a time, his father obviously deciding to parade whatever item he happened to have chosen. This was made obvious by giggles and squeals. Tristin had been hearing the squeals too often. But at least the headaches that came with them were subsiding over time.

That woman is insane... I refuse to wear that! I am not a little girl... I don't care how cute it would look, or how much Da' spent on it. It's a dress. It's not for me. Hmph... certainly, she has some nerve to try and stuff me into a maid's uniform... And who in the world sells them in my size?! -Huff- Evil, horrible, mean, terrible woman... Fluff, puff, and all the stuff! And she wants me in it! Hoi... I'm almost tempted to run Da's route and whine and moan over it for days on end. But, unfortunately, it's spring break and I'm not about to start talking to myself. Well, no more than usual, at least.

Ah... But enough of that. Documentation on further findings should be jotted down. Jealousy is my focus this time. Da' has gotten himself yet another pet, and he's been spending what, apparently, the woman finds to be far too long with him. In fact, it seems jealousy has attacked her. She loves the beast Da' has acquired too, but whenever he pays attention to him, it seems to irk her. Rather unusual, I must say. Also, jealousy seems to cause delusions. The woman even came to me, whining at me as if I'd care about what bothers her. She didn't even stop when I pointed out Da' probably love the little beast more than her because it didn't whine, at least. Truly sad, I must say.

But I'm tired of thinking about her. I certainly have other things to do. They may annoy me, but I won't get a headache from thinking about them.

Yours,
Tristin B. Callon

I'm getting bored with things... The amazing annoyances are still attacking in full force, but even the bother I get from those seems to be fading. Not that I'm accepting or getting used to them no, but they just aren't as noticable anymore. Sad, isn't it? I haven't been out to visit all the old friends any recent time, either. Or even return to the shop. It really is saddening, to put it simply. I really could use more people to play with. The ones at school continue to get more uptight, and even more normal. Really, I've got to wonder why none of them want to have fun with things. I barely even bother them, and they get snooty. Little snots.

Maybe I should move onto something good. Or pleasant, at the very least. Da' actually proved himself to not be completely incompetent. We're finally moving out of the rat-hole we've been in for so long. Three-bed, three-bath house for us! No more waiting to use the bath, or even having to hear those two playing. We should be out by next month, but Da' said we have to wait until the house sells. Mmn... I may also be changing schools again. Not that I'd complain. I can just hope that the next one is a bit better. Hell, it may even be an entertaining place if I'm lucky.

Hmph... Ah, and I finally gave in to that woman... The dress looked horrible, but it shut her up for a while, at least. I think she's content to just sit in her room and squeal over it for a while. At least I'll have some peace now though, even if I have to listen to that.

I didn't like wearing it! I promise you, it was a horrid experience! I'll never put on something like that again, ever! I'll fight and bite and all other things I could do. It doesn't matter how much I looked like I enjoyed myself... Stupid Da'...

Who the hell/cares what/the day ********! ******** hell! Damn that ******** whore, and all her little slut-buddies! I'm not a religious person, but she needs to die and go to ******** HELL! Cheap little b***h...

She cheated on Da'! My father! She said he gave him permission to do what she liked, but I doubt she would've wanted... this. Right across from me, he's curled up. He kept me up all night, clinging and nuzzling to me. Hell, he was a mess. Sure, he's not quite stable, maybe not even safe to be around at times, but he's my Da' and I hate seeing him like that... As such, that woman's a whore, and I hope she never comes near this house again...

Hmph... He said he wants her back, though. Da' wants the woman back, despite all that went on last night. She's still in the house, even. She heard all that happened last night, and yet she's still sleeping. Disgusting whore...

Ah, he's finally getting up. Mmn... I hate to say it, but he's cute after waking... I didn't just say that. Well, gotta deal with him now...

----------------

Rising from his desk, Tristin stretched for a moment, suppressing a yawn which threatened to escape. Mostly unsuccessfully.

Glancing down to his desk, he flicked his journal shut, deciding his da' wouldn't be quite in the mood to be poking around at his things. Simply shifting it to the side of the desk, he returned his gaze to his father, moving quickly to sit on the edge of the bed, looking him over. "...How are you feeling, now?"

Smiling faintly, Nothing nodded to his son as he sat up lazily. "I'm... Well enough. I'm sorry about last night, Trist... Was being a bit stupid."

Frowning at the insult, he gave his father a strong poke to the forehead. "Idiot. You weren't being stupid. Well, mostly. I still say you'd be better off just leaving that woman, though... But there's not a chance of that, is there?"

Smiling faintly, Nothing of course shook his head. "Nope. No way at all, kiddo. Heh... I'm a tad bit too attached to her for anything of the sort." Sighing softly, he laid back again, arms crossing under his head. "It made her happy, and that's all I want. So I can't complain too much about it." Smirking slightly, he glanced over to Tristin. "Let me guess, though... You find all this to be worthless, don't you?"

Blinking at Nothing, Tristin chuckled and nodded. "Of course it's useless. Drama, forgiveness, and random acts of sap will follow this, I'm sure. A lot of trouble would be saved if you'd just ditch her." Nodding again, he glanced to his Da'. "...Scoot over."

Smiling, Nothing complied, making room for Tristin as he slid in under the covers, hugging his father's arm to his chest. "Ah well, littlun... You'll find someone that'll make you understand. Maybe not all of it, but enough, I'd say." Nodding, he tousled the boy's hair lightly, making Tristin promptly withdraw and smooth out his hair again.

"I doubt it. I don't want to understand why you'd go to such lengths." Nodding slightly, he shot a glance to his da'. Sighing, he turned onto his side, facing away from him. "Da'... I hate her. She's a b***h... And she's hurt you. I don't like it. Okay? I'll never like her..."

Sighing softly, Nothing scooted close to draw his son into a tight hug, squashing the small lad to his chest before releasing him and slipping out from under the covers. "You'll get it eventually. Just keep watch, kid." Nodding, he stood and wandered out, leaving Tristin to contemplate. At least he'd hoped that would be what happened. Unfortunately however, Tristin was more than content to simply rant at himself about the unfairness of the woman. And you may want to know that was a major undertaking for him. It would surely take hours before he gave up.

Well, this isn't a surprise. I'm being shoved off to someone else. Da's been having problems and, apparently, it's too much work to care for me. I was perfectly fine staying in my room at all hours, but apparently he thinks I've been neglected. Ignored, even. I've had no problem with it, so why does he have to bother me about it? He just mumbled something about bad men coming to pick me up if I was left much longer when I asked him. Strange old man, he is. I wouldn't be surprised if I was told he was going senile already. I hope the next house isn't too chaotic...

Apparently, I'm going with Mr. Adrian. Mal's Da', I believe. It'll be great to see Mal again, after such a long time. I don't know about Mr. Adrian, though. We never did talk much, but he seemed to be quite, well... Active with the shop-goers. If that is still holding, I've got to wonder what some of his "friends" may decide to do while they're around. I would hate for my peace to be disturbed by one of them. Especially if they're not quite in their right mind while I'm around. You never know what people may partake in these days. But no matter. I'm sure it will all be fine, either way.

I think I'm supposed to be sent off tomorrow... I was told to pack everything important, and I've made sure to do that. I just wish I knew how long I was staying.

--------------

Sighing softly, Tristin closed his journal and set it beside the case which he had packed. Practically bursting with his clothes, it seemed he was anticipating a long stay. He obviously wasn't happy about it, though. Frowning, he pulled his penguin up from the table beside his bed and clutched it close, laying back on his bed to stare at the ceiling. "The jerk... He should know nobody could take me away." Frowning sharply, he softly pet the penguin's stomach as he rolled assorted thoughts through his mind. Many dealing with what leaving his house may mean, though he did take a time to think of what kind of things could be done with Mal, now. He was older, sharper, and certainly much more playful. And it would be wonderful to finally have someone to play with. And if Mal was his old self, he was sure he could get a good bit of play out of it.

Finally cracking a smile at a certain thing he'd have to try, he sat up and lifted himself from bed, doing a round of the room to see if anything important had been left. He'd packed his vest, and his penguin would obviously not be forgotten, along with several books he still meant to read. Something he used to hold close was forgotten, however. His small gemstone lay forgotten on a high shelf along one wall. Thinking he'd gotten everything needed, he slumped back onto his bed. It was unlikely such a small thing would be noticed before he left.

"Da's such an idiot..."

Adrian parked the car outside of the mansion and turned off the ignition. He exhaled deeply and glanced over at his passenger. "You gonna be okay, kiddo?" he asked.

Tristin shrugged. He'd been silent during the entire ride from his previous home. Saying goodbye had been an unpleasant experience for all involved. Even though Adrian and Nothing had tried to explain that the situation was temporary for the time being, Tristin had lost his temper and yelled a few choice words at his guardian before storming off.

Adrian had tried to console Nothing the best he could before joining Tristin in the car. He'd let the boy brood and sulk rather than try to talk to him before the vehicle had come to a complete stop.

"If there's anything you ever need, you can ask me, okay?" Adrian said. "And I should probably warn you... I told everyone to give you a warm welcome when you got here. There's one person in particular who's excited to see you."

The boy sighed, but nodded. The pre-teen gave Adrian a vague smile. "I'm excited to see him, too," he replied in a quiet voice that lacked the enthusiasm that should've been there.

The two of them managed to get all of Tristin's bags on the first try and climbed the steps to the front door. Soco opened it for them, immediately taking Tristin's bags. Tristin would've much rather held onto them, but he soon realized why the maid boy had been so quick to divest him of the heavy load.

Before he could blink, Tristin found himself in a tight glomp, his arms full of squealing, babbling, green-haired teenager. "Ah, hey, Mal," he managed through the tight squeeze. "Long time, no see."

Malachite pulled away and smiled as he playfully punched Tristin in the shoulder. "Yeah, you jerk, where've you been?" he asked. He couldn't keep up the fake-angry act and pulled Tristin into another hug.

"Dreadfully sorry about that, Love," Tristin said in his ever-so-polite way. "I've just had a lot of things going on that kept me away." He hugged Mal in return before pulling away to get a good look at his childhood boyfriend. He gave him a mischeivous smirk. "You've gotten bigger."

Malachite nodded, the beads in his hair clicking together. "You're short," he pointed out with an immature giggle.

Tristin wrinkled his nose at him. "Bah! I'm not short. You're just wearing shoes that make you really tall!"

"Boys, as much as I hate to interrupt this touching reunion," Adrian said from the doorway behind Tristin, "but these bags are heavy. Mal, introduce him to the others, will you? We'll take these bags up to Trist's new room."

"Okay!" Mal said. He grabbed Tristin's hand and tugged him out of his guardian's way. Lined up in front of the staircase was the Karlet crew, which parted to let Adrian and Soco head up to the second floor. Malachite went down the line, introducing Tristin to each person or critter. Tristin and Kaleb and Hana sized each other up silently, the older teens scrutinizing over whether or not this twerp was a decent match for the beloved girly boy of their family. Rayen was shy, but Tristin got a kick out of the overgrown feline, scratching behind Rayen's ears.

"So, that's everyone," Mal announced once they got to the end of the line. "Oh! Except for Soco."

"Soco?" Tristin echoed. "Ah, the girl who helped your da' with the bags?"

There was a murmur of giggles from the group at the base of the stairs. Malachite gave Tristin an amused look. "Soco's a boy, Trist. He's our live-in maid and butler-type-person."

The blue-haired preteen raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? I suppose I'll have to check and make sure."

"What, like you did to poor Raissen?"

"Exactly!"

Malachite snickered. "I'm sure he'll appreciate that. He's too uptight and hasn't come out of his shell, yet."

"Hmm, will have to do my best to remedy that," Tristin said with a decisive nod. "After I spend some time catching up with you and loving you up, of course."

The corners of Mal's lips quirked up into an almost-shy smile. The expression was the same one he'd always used to give when they were younger and Tristin suggested anything involving "loving up."

Adrian appeared at the top of the stairs. "Ready to come see your room?" he called.

"Yeah!" Tristin called back before glancing at Malachite. "Race ya."

"You're on!"

-~+~-

Adrian and Soco had put Tristin's room together based on what Adrian remembered about the boy. The tones of the rug and bedding were earthy, and the curtains over the two windows were dark blue. They'd found some old landscapes of mountains and oceans and had placed them on the walls. Kaleb had given up a few of his old posters of rock bands, skaters, and other X-Play sports. The posters sat in a pile in the corner for Tristin to pick through and hang up what he wanted, later.

All the basic room furniture was there: a bed, a dresser, a desk and chair. There was no closet, so Adrian, with a little help, had dragged in an old wooden wardrobe.

Tristin's bags had been left beside his new bed for him to sort through.

"What do you think?" Adrian asked as Tristin glanced about his new room.

"It's very nice, thanks," the boy replied. He went over to the window and glanced outside at the "backyard." There was a pool, a large garden, and beyond those lay a line of trees that led to a great wood.

Malachite was still slightly out of breath after their race up the stairs. "My room's just down the hall, on the other side of the house," he said.

"The bathroom's a couple doors down on your left," Soco put in. "We can show you where to put your towels and everything."

Tristin nodded, his expression turning a little melancholy as the initial excitement began to wear off.

"Come on, you two," Adrian said, shooing Mal and Soco out the door, much to the former's distress, "give him a little space. He'll come find you when he needs anything."

"Okay." Mal pouted and waved to Tristin. "Take as much time as you need, but we've got a lot to catch up on."

"Don't worry," Tristin gave him another soft smile, "I won't be long."

Soco bowed and led Mal out of the room. Adrian turned to Tristin. "Like I said, if you need anything, just ask."

The boy nodded again. "I did actually have a question, if you don't mind me asking," he said.

"Ask away."

"Well, I was wondering," Tristin said, leaning against his desk, "I remember how way back when you were always very... open with your displays of affection, when it came to the people you were with. Like, Da' and Mr. Mako. Are you still like that?"

Adrian tilted his head to one side. "Not as much, no," he replied. "Then again, I don't see as many people now-a-day's, and when I do, we don't do so many public displays of affection like we used to. Is it going to be a problem if I slip up and commit a PDA?"

Tristin shrugged. "I don't know. I was just wondering."

"Okay." Adrian nodded. "Was there anything else you needed?"

The boy paused, trying to decide if he should ask his next question. "Could I... Eh, Da' and I... we were always the hugging-type. So, is it okay..."

"Tristin, if you want a hug, you don't even have to ask," Adrian said with a smile. He stepped towards Tristin and embraced him. "Mal and I are the hugging-type, too, you know."

Tristin sighed and relaxed into the hug. "I do seem to remember that," he said. "Thanks for taking me in, by the way."

"It's no problem," Adrian said. "I'd rather you come to live with people you know than have to go with some stranger."

Tristin nodded. "I think that was Da's reasoning, too."

"Mm." Adrian gave the boy a pat on the back. "Do you want to talk about him?"

"Not right now," Tristin said with a shrug, "maybe some other time." He was the first to pull away. "I want to get my things unpacked and put away before I go poking about the house."

"Sounds good," Adrian said, giving him a pat on the back. "Lunch is just make your own sandwhiches and such as that, and everything should be ready around noon. I'm sure you'll be able to find the kitchen; it's always crazy down there at mealtime."

"With so many people in this house, I'm sure it is."
