Then, of course she has a point. That hasn't been practiced in 100 years. You can't hold the people today responsible for what their relatives did in the past. Do you think they had any control in that?
We seem to do it a lot. Look at the slavery reparations movement.
People were asking the American government in the year 2000 to apologize for salvery. Then private companies were sued for their practices during the time of slavery.
I find it ridiculous for the reason you stated but I'm just waiting for someone to call me a racist.
This is off topic, but i really hate that reparations idea.
The idea of 'i dont want to do this, i will make someone else do it' Is quite old, and slavery has happened all over in the past. Slavery in Greece, slavery in Rome, and slavery in Egypt =/
It was only from about 1790-1860, thats not near as long as the slavery in Egypt was when they build the pyramids.
Also, there is still slavery amongst indigenous tribes in Africa and New Guinea=/ Not to mention in America, the human trafficking problem, forcing young girls and women to be sex slaves and house maids illegally.
A bit off topic, but slaves DID NOT make the pyramids. According to scrolls and texts found, for a slave to build a holy place, be it a temple or a pyramid, was in insult to Netjer. It was the people of Egypt that did the building of these structures and many more. A slave's place in Egypt at that time focused more on domestic chores. Slavery was seen as a form of punishment, often ussed for thieves, which is hinted at in the Wisdom Texts, otherwise known as the Maxims of Ptahotep. Now, is it possible that slaves were used for such labor during the reign of Ramses the II? it is possible, considering it was during this time that the Exodus occured. However, if this is true, than Ramses the II was the only Nisut to perform such an atrocity.
Now back on-topic. I see alot ofthings like this, where people stick with the general labels towards other faiths. People fear being wrong, and so they do everything to convince others that they are right. Blind ignorance leads to false accusations, and people often refer to the past in order to point out the evils of one faith. For instance, people ask me why I'd belong to a religion that enslaved the Jews several thousands of years ago before Jesus Christ. I in turn ask them how they could belong to those responsible for the Inquisition, Salem, and many other events. And then when I'm done listing things off, I throw in that the people of today are not the people of the past, even if they are reincarnated. Every religion, every government has it's share of bad leaders. But to throw hate around and make false accusations is an insult to thier own religion as much as it is to those they are insulting. After all, the bible doesn't say "Love thy neighbor only if thy neighbor believes in the same invisible man that you do." now does it? Jesus taught compassion. Ma'at is Compassion and Justice. Dragging the faith of another person through the mud is not compassion or justice. It is not enlightenment. it is nothing short of ignorance and fear.
