"I'm a hibiscus." The colorful girl drew herself upright and smiled prettily. As if on cue, the fluorescent lighting above caught at her hair and seemed to make her glow a bit. She broke the spell then by reaching up to fiddle with the flower in her hair. "Mommy says that, anyway. I do like flowers, of course. But I'm not truly a flower," she explained carefully. "I need more than sunshine and water."

A hibiscus? People could be hibiscuses? That explained a heck of a lot. Being a flower was kind of... well, this girl looked like a flower and looked like something Barbie might dress up for in the Barbie Fairytopia movie. Interested despite herself, Jace untucked her arms and blurted, "Do you have roots?"

"No." Delilah gave her a long, mild look that somehow avoided coming across as "are you an idiot?". Then she balanced on one foot and extended the other to point a delicate little shoe. "I have feet just like you. Ten toes even." She drew her foot back and cocked her head to study Jace's shoes. Then she looked up at the other girl's hair. "Your hair is a good color," she announced.

Was this kid making fun of her? Jace's mouth screwed up a little. "It's just a colour," she said. "It's red." She bit back are you weird or something? because if she was going to fire a salvo, Delilah had to fire one first. "Do you dye your hair? It's blue... greeny. Weird."

"No. This is my hair. Mama has green hair." Delilah shrugged. Then she hooked her fingers under the straps of her backpack, pulling the weight upwards slightly. "Do you dye your hair?"
