snow are frozen rain drops or tiny ice crystals that form in the clouds until the clouds can no longer hold them. In a way, the clouds burst and out come these ice crystals drifting towards earth, blanketing miles and miles of land. In the moonlight, they glisten like purple diamonds and it's a glorious sight...and very very chilly ^_^ sometimes, snow can compact down so hard and mix with water creating ice. now that's a deadly scene right there if you're out driving a vehicle

edit: I live in Michigan so...we get a lot of snow and rain and everything in between mrgreen I love it here heart

We have alot of snow here as well. I'm in Canada also. Ontario, to be specific.
The good thing about the area I live in is that we get alot of freezing rain each year.
So we don't have to go to school at least five days a year.
Although last year it was only four.

Wow, it's hard to believe that there are people who have never seen or touched snow! Let's see. When the temperature goes below the freezing mark, the water in the clouds freezes as well. Then it works in the same principle as rain - when the clouds have too much condensation in them, it starts to snow. A single snowflake is a minature, frozen raindrop; a ton of them is referred to as snow [think of the signular raindrop as compared to rain]. Sometimes you get a lot, sometimes you get very little. A winter storm will generally be anywhere upwards of 10cms, usually around 15cms.

Winter storms are generally accompanied by strong, freezing winds [and I mean freezing. The temperature can (and does) go as low as -40celsius thanks to that wind] which blows the snow around, making it very difficult to see. Not only does it lower visibility, it also coats the roads and covers ice patches, making it hazardous for anyone trying to drive. That's why we get schooldays - busses have gone off the road before, and it's [generally] thought that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Snow can last anywhere from October [very early] to April [very late]. The peak season for it is late November through until mid-March. You can tell it's time to snow when the ground is frozen and puddles begin to freeze. In the spring, snow will melt gradually depending on the weather. As snow melts, it takes on a very wet form by the name of "slush", which is like melted snowflakes that aren't quite rain.

By the way, as someone else mentioned, snow doesn't really have a color, but it looks white as it is falling and when it covers the ground. It is very cold to the touch, and if you held it in your bare hand, your fingers will very slowly turn red and you'll start to lose feeling in them. Snow is very light and can be made into several shapes. It is also an excellent insulator, and is exceptionally beautiful.

We're getting it, yes. I dunno about the other provinces, but the weather network has got a Winter Storm Warning out for where I live. It says that strong winds and a ton of snow is moving across the province tonight, and we're expected to get 15cms - 25cms. User Image Man, if we get that, my father will be so pissed. Up till yesterday, we were only forcast to get like 2cms.

And yes, it's flipping freezing today. It's like -16celsius with the wind chill. crying I so don't want to go to school today. *shivers* I'm so tempted to stay home, except I know I shouldn't, because the teachers are doing their exam review today....

gonk I've never even seen the snow.
Not in San Diego, Zihuatanejo or
Queretaro. My parents seem to
prefer hot weather places.

Now there is like, 6 in. in Ohio. You've never seen snow? When my teacher first moved to Ohio she had never seen snow before and she thought that snow flakes were going to be really big.

I live in California. The closest thing we get to snow is hail, and thats hardly ever. I saw snow when I went to Yosemite in the summer. It was awesome, but we couldn't stay for long cry
