"I can't say that I've found myself completely, but I missed my home..." His voice trailed of for a moment as he thought of the real reason, "I missed my friends." Scythe had only a few friends in his life, he had left them without a good bye, without reason. He had yet to see any of the since his return...He had still yet to find his mate again. For all he knew, she had forgotten him and found another stallion to father her foals.
"I suppose you're right," he pondered on her words. "Have you ever jumped from a cliff into a river below?" His words seemed to have nothing to do with flying, but they did. "It's the closest I can explain as to what I can do...It's like jumping from a cliff, on the decent is slower and not straight down." He looked over to Vara and smiled, "If you ever want to fly, just jump." He knew that was a silly idea, but he once had befriended a foal that he had done this activity with. The foal, now a lovely mare, had wished for wings when she was younger, they would go cliff jumping together so she could pretend to fly. It was a fond, silly memory that cause Scythe to smile.

"I've never thought of it that way before!" laughed Vara. "To think that flight has been within my grasp all this time. It's too bad that it's getting too cold for jumping into lakes and rivers. It would be an enjoyable drop but the cold splash at the end might ruin the effect." Her eyes were still crinkled with mirth but her voice took on a slightly more serious tone.
"Have you considered going back to your old home? It would ease your homesickness."

"Yes, much too cold now. You'll have to come back this way in the spring. I'll take you jumping." He laughed a little at the thought of this beautiful mare jumping off a cliff with him without remorse.
His smile faded a bit as she talked about his home, "I am home," he looked around, "Just, no one comes to visit these days." He shrugged a bit. The wind was picking up, it was brisk as it moved across his coat causing him to shiver slightly. "My home's in the valley, just outside of the forest." His voice sounded a bit distant as he talked, "The homesickness has gone, but things just aren't the same." He looked over to Vara, "Do you never travel home?" he didn't mean to really change the subject, but he heard her state that her whole adult life almost had been a journey.

Vara smiled dryly. "I don't know that I have one place I'd call home. It's the trouble with wandering around too much. Home is where the heart is but I've spread my heart to so many places that there isn't one center for it." Except for her son, perhaps. He was the one that she cared about above all others.
"I might have to take you up on that jumping offer once it warms up, though." She forced her tone to a lighter one. "The area is so rocky I imagine there are some good places for it."

The canopy overhead began to thicken, the forest floor becoming darker as they traveled along. They had made it half way through the path. Scythe looked around, his ears alert. He relaxed his wings from being held so closely to his body making him appear a bit large than he was, he knew that size did matter to some. The larger he appeared, the less chance of trouble there would be for the two of them. Scythe continued to listen to Vara as she talked, his own heart heavy for a moment knowing that this mare had no place to call home.
"There's definately good places for jumping here, you come back in spring and I'll show you." He nodded and smiled, he didn't know what to say to change the subject so that Vara didn't seem so heavy hearted. It wasn't his place to pry any farther as they had just met. "There's a great cliff, not far from my own ho.." he hadn't meant to mention 'home' again, too late, "My own home. It's got a great view and lots of room to get a running start." He tried to laugh at the thought.

Vara could tell that Scythe was trying his best to make her comfortable and that alone was enough to help her mood. He seemed to be relaxing around her, too. That was a good thing and she was getting a better view of his most intriguing wings. They were certainly strange but they carried a strange sort of beauty with them.
"A running start? Is that a running start in preparation for jumping... or more a running start a little more symbolic?" She looked at the thickening trees overhead thoughtfully. "I suppose that a secluded area like this would be good for a running start on one of those journeys to find the self that we've been talking about."

Scythe didn't seem to notice that Vara was glancing at his wings, he forgot that they were different than others sometimes. It strained his muscles to keep them pulled in tightly for too long, luckily Vara had accepted him for how he looked and he didn't feel so self concious around her. He walked along at a steady pace, his eyes constantly surveying the forest around them, but his focus still on Vara as she talked.
"The running part is more of a..." He laughed, "Build up the nerve because once you hit full speed you're not stopping before you hit that ledge, type of thing." He laughed and accidently snorted, a smile crossed his face. "The first time you jump...it's not actually the jumping that's bad..it's the moments leading up to it when you think you're out of your mind and you think of everything that could go wrong..."
Scythe looked up at the canopy, the moonlight barely piercing through the layers of limb and leaf. "Anywhere is a good place to start a journey," Scythe looked over to Vara, "All you need to do is decide your path. It's not the destination that matters really, it's the path you choose to get there."

"What excellent philosophies you have!" exclaimed Vara cheerfully. "I'm not even certain which to respond to first, the one about jumping or the one about journeying." She smiled up at where the moon shone through leaves and was grateful for this meeting. It was cheering her immensely and she was thoroughly enjoying the company of this stallion.
"The piece of journeying wisdom is one that I've embraced fully in my life. I suppose it's why I don't have a home... because I've always found the journey far too enriching to give up for settling down."

Scythe just smiled at her response, he seemed happy to know that she was cheering up just a little as they walked along. The canopy overhead was beginning to thing out a bit, they were on their last leg of the path before Vara would safely be around the mountain. Scythe hoped that she would take up his offer of coming back in the spring if her journey allowed it.
"If the journey makes you happy, then continue on," he looked over to her, "There's never a need to settle until your journey is complete. If you're called by the winds in another direction, follow the call. Perhaps you will find your 'impossibilities' possible after all..."
Scythe hoped that Vara found her way to many lonely Soquili, she was definatley a pleasure to speak with. He knew that she would brighten many days ahead for other Soquili on journeys unknown.

They were almost to the end of their own small journey and Vara couldn't help but be a little regretful of that fact. Scythe was kind, thoughtful, and pleasant. Who knew when she would next meet such good company? "Called by the winds, am I?" she mused. "Well I'm glad that they called me in this direction or I would not have had the chance to meet you. Your company has been a rare pleasure and I thank you for it."
It was times like this that Vara wondered what her life would be like if she had chosen to settle down in one of the many places that had nice soquili such as this one. It would not be an unpleasant life, that was certain.

"We're all called by the winds, though some Soquili just refuse to listen," His voice sounded thoughtful as he pondered his next words carefully, "I hope one day, the winds will bring you back to these lands." He allowed an almost embarassed smile to cross his face. He had enjoyed his company for the evening. The sun would be up soon and the path ran short, they would be parting ways before the sun rose fully.
In the far distance, Scythe could see the trees thinning out, the edge of the forest approached. He wished they had walked a little slower, once they made it to the edge of the forest he would again be lonely, making the trek back through the forest with only his thoughts.
"It's been a pleasure, Vara." His ears flitted as the wind rustles leaves across the forest floor. "I hope you continue your journey with much passion." He hoped she wouldn't take that the wrong way, perhaps passion wasn't the best choice of words, but it was all he could think of. She seemed so determined to help others and Scythe hoped she continued to believe that was an important role for her to play in her life and the lives of others.

"And I hope that someday you find someone who can appreciate you the way that you deserve." She couldn't help but give Scythe a slightly flirtatious wink with that remark. "But," she replied more seriously. "We must both continue following the call of our wind, wherever it may take us. If we're lucky then we can hope for it to call us together once more. Especially in spring." She smiled as her path started to take her away from the stallion. "For I've heard that some excellent cliff diving can be found in these parts and I wouldn't want to miss it."

As Scythe and Vara reached the edge of the forest, Scythe stopped to listen to her last few words. He smiled an pawed at the ground slightly.
He smiled and laughed softly, "That there are. I'll keep an eye on the horizon in spring. I could use a new diving friend."
He would stay at the edge of the forest until Vara was out of sight, making sure she got at least a little further without harm. He was thankful that he had been out searching for food at the time he was, he would have hated to have missed this opportunity.
"Let the winds be with you, Vara." He called to her once she was several steps from him. He had no other words and she had a journey to continue.
