When her mother took a seat, Shiri felt her eyes begin to water more. Her mother was already growing older and a part of Shiri was thankful that she had found the lioness before it was too late. This was the one thing that both knocked her down and gave her strength throughout her whole life. Shiri was hurt and was not sure if ever things could be mended between the two of them, but she was not willing to simply become mad and walk away. Not after so many years apart.
When Memetuka began to explain the story about how she was younger, Shiri faked a smile. So her mother was young when she became pregnant? And she was a member of the pridelands. The story was not a pleasant one to here, but at least a few questions were answered in the process.
Shiri continued to listen to the story and when her mother finished, Shiri too took a seat beside the older lioness. The younger lionesses eyes were welled up with tears and her cheeks were matted down from the downfall of past tears. In a tone much different than earlier, she continued to speak, "So you never meant for me to be alone..." It was a question, originally, but Shiri needed nothing answered. She understood this now and while she could not entirely forgive her mother, at least she understood.
As a few additional tears fell from Shiri's pale green eyes, the lioness smiled lightly and also added, "Would it be strange if I questioned your name, Angavu?"

Meme glanced back at the ground shamefully, still trying to deal with the fact that Abedari had abandoned their daughter as well. It was never something she had imagined could happen, clearly he had been just as immature as she had been.. it was a miracle that Shiri was still alive, let alone able to be this social. The old lioness never expected what Shiri did next, crying and asking questions almost as if.. she wasn't furious with her old mother.
Her own violet eyes finally started to water when she looked back up to Shiri, and shook her head. Without a mother was hard enough, but with no one.. chances were so slim..
"I never wanted you to suffer for my mistakes," she murmured, though she was still far from smiling even when Shiri did and asked about her name, "My name is Memetuka, I made up the other name when I thought you might know my name.."

Shiri smiled when she heard her mother's true name. It was such a beautiful name and something that could have comforted Shiri when she was younger. When the situation become clear, the younger lioness understood that her mother might use a false name to throw Shiri off. When she was right, however, she felt a closeness to Meme, as though she knew her, even though they had only just met.
It seemed that while Shiri was beginning to accept the circumstances, her news truly devastated her mother. What type of father did she have to simply be abandoned, when he knew that she'd have no one else to turn to? When she was younger, Shiri might have screamed and raved about how awful her life was and that she was undeserving of such a mess.
Since she had found Meme, however, a part of Shiri was at ease. Opening her mouth to answer, Shiri's eyes squinted in pain and she found herself unable to speak. Her back and head had been troubling her lately. It seemed she was constantly aching.
A sort of aching was also coming from her stomach and made her feel nauseous. Perhaps during her last hunt with Kei, the animal they chose was sickly?

Meme fell silent now, feeling awkward and shameful about what she'd done- there was no way she could take it back, there was nothing she could say or do to make it any better. She fully expected Shiri to start yelling at her any moment now, and as such she kept her eyes turned away as she waited. She deserved it, after all, if she'd never left then perhaps Shiri would have had someone, would be healthy, happier.. would Abedari have left them both, or would he have stuck around? She couldn't say, but was more than willing to accept the blame deciding that if she'd stayed with him, he would have stayed with her.
When Shiri said nothing, Meme finally looked over and say the look of pain on her daughter's face- and she, of course, made the obvious error in judging of what it was about.
"I know it's impossible, but if there's anything I can do.. to try to make it up to you.."

Shiri could hear her mother, but still couldn't form words in her mouth. She was panting lightly now and trying to catch her breath. Feigning a smile to keep the situation from becoming more awkward, she nodded. Her mother had wanted to make things up to her? That sentence was what Shiri had searched her entire life for. Perhaps she found that she was being too forgiving, but Shiri couldn't simply hold her anger and leave her mother, unsure as to how long her mother had left. Shiri was grown now and Memetuka was much older.
Having calmed down lightly, Shiri managed to answer her shortly, "I would love that, Meme..." She wasn't sure if it was too soon to be using nicknames, but suddenly that wasn't Shiri's worry. Turning to the side and in some short shrubbery, Shiri found that the lunch she had earlier could not be held down. She felt tears slide down her cheeks in embarassment.
"I-i'm sorry!" She managed to gasp, keeping her head turned away. At the angle she held her form, something seemed different about her. It was easy to miss during their heated conversation, but now that things were becoming lightly resolved.
Shiri's form had always been incredibly thin, but now she seemed to have a slight bulge towards her abdomen...

Meme looked curiously at Shiri, wondering if she was really taking it as badly as she seemed to be- for she was speechless and certainly not looking or sounding too well about all of this. She smiled awkwardly when Shiri managed to agree, even calling her by a more affectionate version of her name (she hadn't expected to be called "mom" or anything).. but as soon as Shiri turned away suddenly. Meme was back on her feet and looking on with concern, for there were few good reasons one might be unable to keep food down- it wasn't so easy to fill back up.
"Shiri- are you ok?" she asked just before she noticed the odd shape to Shiri's stomach. The way she'd turned, the way she was standing.. there was just enough of something there to see a difference.
"Shiri.." Meme hesitated, not sure how to ask about that.

Shiri was certainly naive. She had stumbled across her mother without recognising a scent, or realising that the two shared the exact same coloration and similar body type. She had found Kei and not realised he shared her feelings, until she was so bold to ask. And when she found herself to be pregnant, it was her farthest thought.
Lifting her head, with ears flattened against her skull, Shiri glanced about for something. Water would certainly be nice, but she felt awful cutting off the conversation with Meme. "I-i'm alright... I must have eaten something sickly.." Shiri had decided that this was what caused her to be sick, but understood how strange that it sounded. Why was it that she had never been sick like this before during her entire time in the roguelands? Had she happened to never come across a sickly animal until now?
"Or maybe a poisonous plant?" Shiri suggested, thinking that suggestion was even more absurd. Shiri wasn't exactly a huge fan of foliage.

Meme shook her head a bit when Shiri said she much have eaten something sickly- that wouldn't be it, because the weak and sick were always the easiest to hunt, thus popular choices. It would have to be really sickly, and the plant idea was worse seeing as most lions didn't eat plants, ever. Perhaps she'd eaten some carrion that was poisoned by some plant, but that.. didn't sound right, now that Meme had noticed her belly. Unless Shiri had something seriously wrong with her, but she certainly didn't look- or smell- like she was dying.
"D-do you have a mate?" she asked delicately, awkwardly. There was so little she knew about Shiri, perhaps she did have a mate out there, and they would be starting a family.. it made sense that perhaps Shiri would be ignorant to the ways of life, since her parents hadn't been around to explain it.. since she'd been a lone rogue for so long..

"A mate?" Shiri asked, color returning to her face again. Apparently after allowing her food to leave her, she was beginning to feel a bit more like herself again. The question from Memetuka reminded Shiri of her friend Chu'mana. Chu'mana had found herself a handsome male within the pridelands. Shiri found herself blushing, the idea of Kei suddenly appearing in her mind, much like it had when her friend told her about her mate.
"I don't believe so..." Shiri's voice trailed off a bit. Since she had been forced to turn away, the young lioness seemed to be a bit more at ease. Either she was growing more comfortable with Meme, or she was afraid of upsetting her stomach once again. "I do have a friend though.. his name is Kei.. He accompanies me in the roguelands.."
Looking over Memetuka, Shiri could sense that something wasn't right. Why was she asking about a mate? Did she know something that Shiri didn't, or was she simply starting conversation. Curiously, Shiri asked, "Why do you ask?"

When Shiri looked back and turned bright at the question, Meme glanced away awkwardly- it wasn't really her place to question, but if she could be.. if she thought it was something she ate.. Meme couldn't just let Shiri think she was ill when it might be more than that. However, when Shiri said she didn't- Meme glanced back down at Shiri's middle curiously.
Didn't believe she had a mate.. so she could still be pregnant, just on her own. The idea made Meme worry, though she doubted Shiri would make the same mistake she did, especially with a whole pride to help her.. "C-could you be pregnant?" she asked, just as carefully, before adding, "J-just tossing that possibility out there.."

When Memetuka questioned whether or not Shiri could be pregnant, the lioness suddenly paused. So much seemed to unfolding before her. How could she not know that Memetuka was her mother and that the strange nausea she had been feeling was not due to an upset stomach? Shiri's cheeks flushed in absolute embarassment. She felt so foolish and unprepared.
Shiri was an adult, but a rather naive adult, never taught how things worked and just what might happen as a result. She adored Kei, but now it seemed as though they would have much much more in common.
With wide eyes and a faint look, Shiri glanced around, as though looking for somewhere to fall. "Meme? Is there somewhere I can r-rest....?" Shiri asked before falling lightly to the ground beneath her. She was not out cold, but it was clear by her vacant expression that she would need a bit of time to finally figure out what was going on.

Meme bit her lip as she watched Shiri's reaction to the news. It appeared, based on that reaction, that Meme was correct in her guessing about what was wrong with Shiri. It seemed impossible to be anything else while feeling so ill and looking slightly rounded.. perhaps pregnancy did not agree well with Shiri, but hopefully it was mostly the stress right now.
"R-right here is-" she didn't get to finish her sentence before Shiri buckled and fell to the ground. Right here would have to do for where she rested, and Meme would wait with her until she was ready to get up again.. it was the least she could do..
