{-That's totally fine, I figured it would be about time for him to be up there anyhow. XD -}

The doctor was already in, as it were. Amadeo was watching the fireplace, the look on his face one of distance and some other, more sinister, expression that was far too hard to place. It was almost predatory at a glance. Then again, he could simply have been thinking over the events of tonight like a judge musing over his final verdict. The family was moving up the hill from their recent roll to the bottom and through his leadership it was moving faster than ever before. He hadn't thought about it until now but this was the first large event to take place since, well, since before many of the older Kat's had been born. Sure, they gathered for smaller holidays like April 4th, of course that guest list was very 'selective'. Only those who knew the family secret or were about to find out the hard way were allowed to attend. It kept things easy. But tonight was different. These candidates were special. Very special.

In truth he was thinking very hardly about the events which were to take place in the next few minutes. The business at hand was very serious and he wasn't one to take anything related to family, clan or business lightly. Dear Augustus, how he wished the Elders were in power as they used to be. This would be done properly and he could make council before they brought in their first hopeful, he wouldn't have to embrace them all on his own. It wasn't that he couldn't, he was extremely capable of doing this on his own. It was simply the fact of the matter. He prefered Clan affairs to be handled according to tradition, it made for easier, swifter and less dangerous embracing. Narrowing his eyes, his fist clenching on the mantle over the fireplace as he propped himself by its strength, he continued this thought until his ears caught the sound of pawsteps on the hardwood outside his door and a solid rapping followed shortly thereafter.

Closing his eyes gently he inhaled, the scent of burning wood and ash filling him with a sense of peace as he prepared for his guest. Righting his posture, he made for the door, straightening his attire with a paw before reaching for the elegantly carved door handle and with a click, the door slid open in a wide, silent motion. He stepped out of the way, his expression one of hospitality and charm as he inclined his head in greeting. "Ah, Thane. You're early, a very good sign. Please, come in." His lips lifted an inch, a polite smile as he arched his paw towards a luxuriously apolstered chair sitting before a rather maginificent cherrywood desk. Darkly laquered and glistening as new. A silver tray sat on the desks surface, holding a frosted, crystal bottle filled with an amber colored liquid. Two short, frosted, crystal glasses at it's side like lapdogs at their masters feet. "You drink I trust?" He inquired, already knowing the answer as the scent of wine caught him sharply. Apparently Thane had needed a little help getting up his nerve. In a way it humored Amadeo but he betrayed nothing. "The best brandy around, I can assure you." He was already filling the two glasses, his eyes trained on the task at hand as lovingly as an artist at the canvas.

When Amadeo opened a door Thane quickly dropped his hand, which had been busy fussing with his hair, as if having it neater would somehow make a difference on what Amadeo wanted to discuss with him. Then he gave a respectful nod of his head. “I felt it was prudent to be here on time.” He explained; blunt with his words. Thane was one who did not like beating around the bush nor did he embellish or hide the truth. He found no use for such foolery. When you got straight to the point things ran smoother.

The buck entered the room and cast a quick look around to check his surroundings It was an impressive and stylish room indeed, something he wasn’t used to and could barely understand the beauty of. Of course, there was no point in feeling uncomfortable with where you were, when the company was what you should be concerned about. “Indeed I do drink.” He watched the brandy being poured and then took up his glass, waiting until Amadeo had taken a sip first before he did.

“Beautiful.” He murmured in an almost loving tone once the brandy had been run across his tongue a few times and swallowed. Now this he could appreciate. “Now, what is this proposition you have for me? I’m dieing to find out. But you should know that if it has anything to do wit the runes, it’s already a solid yes.”

Amadeo watched Thane carefully, calculatingly as he held his glass aloft in a wordless toast and fluidly pressed it to his lips, drinking down the luxuriously powerful liquid without so much as a blink of the eye. He'd long ago grown accustomed to the drink, his close family enjoyed the ocassional drinking game involving absinthe, a hard, unforgiving liquid that burned like hell and knocked you on your a** if it so much as touched your tongue. He hid an appreciative smile over Thane's hesitation, was that manners or caution as he waited for Amadeo to drink first? Either way it was a smart move. "Prudence is appreciated in this household, I can assure you." His words flowed evenly, his claws clicking against the glass as he set it down on the platter. He didn't intend on drinking anymore tonight, he needed a clear head. One drink was acceptable, two was presumptuous.

He circled around his desk, choosing to stand behind the ornately carved, cherry wood chair that awaited him, devoid of an occupant and nearly a throne but with far more functionality. His claws slid over the topmost edge of the wooden backing, his presence magnified in the firelight as his eyes found Thanes, the darkness quite alluring and hypnotic in the already low light and exuding an ease that was frighteningly infectious. This had to be done right. The door locked silently, too quiet for mortal ears to hear and he spoke calmly, refraining from alerting him to any foul play. A frightened bird was much harder to handle. "The runes, yes, that does play a part in this deal." Thane's eager attitude and hunger for understanding only prove to humor Amadeo. His voice a low, silken growl, emenating power and control with such stunning ease. "As I stated previously, the Council is greatly impressed by your work and unusually strong insight into the old world. You are an asset they are not ready nor willing to lose." The floor remained still and quiet beneath his paws as he took leave of the desk, moving now to the fireplace and feigning relaxation over it's warmth. The temperature, to him, really hadn't fluctuated all that much.

"They want you on, how should I say this, permanent assignment to materials far more sensitive than those you are currently at work upon. They feel your talents will be better suited to the newest project the Giovanni are undertaking and their wish is for you to head production." Perfect. His words were a soothing salve upon his victim, like a subconcious drug that infected the mind and body as one. If all went well, Thane would be feeling relaxed and agreeable by this stage. He still had his free will, he was going to need it for what was coming. "But there is a price, a minute detail that must be smoothed over before we grant you such power within the family. For by accepting this proposal, your standing and rank in the Giovanni will increase dramatically." He lifted his eyes from the fire, which was a bright golden orange now that it had peaked, and focused his handsome gaze upon Thane. "The price is your mortality."

Therese never asked questions when given an order, sure that was a questionable choice in actions being a Malkavian, after all even the elders were insane. But she had faith that the letter she had received was true. It was curt and simple, a request for her to speak with the Giovanni vampires on behalf of the Malkavian clan regarding a recent increase in Clanless vampires, some even who went as far as to call them selves 'Anarchs' following Caine's daughters will to destroy the clans.

Inside was an invite to the Giovanni house, the signature was scrawly and made no sense and was actually delivered by a mortal judging by the scent of the one who handled it before her. None the less clan business was always a good way to hustle into a Giovanni house hold.

Sure enough though two rather big fae blocked the door, a few quick words a flash of the letter and things were settled, though the one guard still gave her greife and dared to flirt with her! "Sir I don't have time for your petty approach, save it for my deranged filth of my sister thank you." A quick slap to the cheek and a bit of power infected the stupid card wit a minor case of Dimentia, a trait Therese rarely used, but one good for getting someone to shut up by laughing madly with Malkavian induced 'insight'.

She stalled however, just outside the door to Amadeo's room, something was going on inside she could feel it. And the idea of walking in like this without freshening up from her trip over was repulsive. With a quick step she made way to a bathroom to freshen up.

Once inside she set her bag to the side pulling out makeup, fussing over her lips, and her hair, oh she should have done something with it perhaps yes that looks nice...

Jeanette smiled back at her self in the mirror with utmost delight, her silly sister had left the window open and allowed her to slip in after she had left the bathroom, and now was the time to really have some fun. The letter her 'dear sister' had received was indeed real, but was delivered by a faithful friend Silvana who made sure to tell Jeanette when the meeting was. While her sister was off being all high and mighty she a few 'friends' were going to have a little fun with the others.

"Psssst giiiirls come on!" The party happy Malkavian stuck her head back out the window waving to the other two in the bushes, Naya and Silvana had been waiting ever so patiently and now the fun was to really begin! "Hurry about before sweet sister sour puss finds out were triping this pretty little merry go round!" With that she slipped back out the bathroom door to find something 'fun' to play with.

Silvana giggled with delight shuffling her deck of cards one last time before tucking them in her top. "Comon Naya, we have fun things to find in there!" she tugged at the other vampires arm before starting off with out her grabing the edge of the open window and vaulting in with the grace of a cat burgler she had been all her life, perfected even so in death. "Ooooo Naya-nana they have such shiney things in the bathrooms here!" Their was a creaking, squeaking and a crack and suddenly Silvana was leaning out the window waving a gold faucet in hand. "Finders keepers!" She tossed it out into the bush landing it beside a sack soon to be filled with goodies.

And so the prank began...

Naya was anxiously bobbing up and down in anticipation over the delights to come, her luminous, enticing eyes trained like a predator on the window. Comeoncomeoncomeonbingo! The window slid up and Jeanette poked her head out, waving them over with gusto. Ooooh, if they got caaaaught they were in big trouble. Naughty little Malks. Naya couldn't help but clap her hands and squeak in excitement, like a little girl about to meet her star crush. She rolled a piece of chalk in her paws as she watched her fellow Malkavian pop out and head for the window. She didn't move until she fealt her companion tug impatiently, with that Naya was off across the painstakingly manicured lawn. Too perfect. Her footpaws kicked up dirt clods as she went, a little trail of holes following in her wake. But she stopped dead in her tracks as a golden faucet nearly thwacked her in the face. It fell to her footpaws and she admired it for a seconds time before picking it up and deftly tossing it into the bag. Pretty, pretty faucet.

It took her only a few minutes to leap into the window, as a mortal she would have scrambled, now she simply braced the window sill with a paw and swung inside silently. Her claws clicking on the marble floor. Nice place indeed! Her eyes widened, it was like a candy store just waiting to be pillaged. Oh, where to start? "Silly Vana!" She called after her companion, hurrying up to catch her and Jeanette. "Where's Jeanette?" She couldn't see the other female. There had to be careful, oh so careful. If they were caught by an Elder or above it was baaaad. Naya may have been a little off her rocker but she wasn't stupid. She popped her lips, enjoying the sound as she began to plot and figure the best place to start. She had some work to do and the best place to start was always at the beginning.

Jeanette was already off slinking around the mansion, appear and disapearing in the eyes of guards and other random wanders. Just a tease, just a distraction. Her stuffy older sister must have been around here somewhere having a chat with some preped and pampered Giovani but that didn't matter. Though the other two were on their own now, and Jeanette did hope nothing too terrible befell their marry little play date. "Now if I was a Giovani what would make me cranky..." she twirled a tube of lipstick staring at the walls, oh yes just perfect...

"She left, busy busy, she's quick to scoot off when ever I see her but that dosen't matter she got us in you know how awesome that is!?" She stuck her head out the door waving Naya on to follow. "If you see anything good leme know and we can dump it out to the sack!" Her eyes darted side to side, her fingers tip-taping the cards hidden in her top. "Gawd I can't wait to hear what they say about thiiiiis!"

Naya gave a curt nod but her eyes were focused elsewhere, she had ideas. Many ideas. "Rugs.. on the ceiling Silly Vana, faucets on the roof." She blinked her wide, unfalteringly glowing gaze to her clan mate and flashed her a toothy grin. With that said her paws spun chalk and crayons and she began a patchwork on the polished wooden walls, never had a Kat moved so fast and it took her only minutes before the entire wall was covered in words ranging from 'ha-ha' to 'LOOK!' along with doodles and pretty pictures of, well, no one would really be able to pin-point exactly what they were. Call it 'abstract art'. Naya cocked her head to the side, flashed a color stained thumbs up and sauntered down the hallway, accidentally dragging her crayon along one wall.

Now, as she was still a Fledgeling, Naya was still growing accustomed to the Pranking business. She knew that it wasn't simply a 'snatch and grab' operation. It needed to serve a purpose. And what better purpose than showing the vampiric world that yes, the Malkavians were still active. She laughed to herself and flattened against a wall as a trio of giggling Giovanni girls passed her by. "Pressy, prissy, primping, pretties." She giggled, watching them intently as they moved. She almost snuck up behind them to color on the hems of their ballgowns but refrained. Too risky.

Silvana continued along swiping random objects, now and then she would leave something else rather tacky in its place, be it a broken piece of another figure, or some random bit of trash from a wastebin. Either way the two were quickly turning the halls near the bathroom and the Elders chambers into quite a mess. "Rugs are for walking, we'll need stairs for the ceiling but thats too complicated." She frowned glancing about at Naya's art, quikly she took a claw and added her own little sketch, a quick sketch of a playing card, her favorite thing in the world and her own little mark. "Comon now, Jeanette said we had to find 'fancy' papers and take them too... maybe we can find an office round here..."

Naya blinked as Silvana drew on the wall, smiling appreciatively and giving a proud nod of approval before she cocked her head and listened. "Let's go.. let's go find your pretty papers then." She started off down the hall and paused before the door Therese had when a Malkavian had first set foot inside the house, she was about to reach for the door handle when she froze. There was a little girl watching her, a non-alive little girl kitty who made Naya very nervous. Naya looked back at Silvana and shook her head. "This room is bad, very bad. We'll look somewhere else, ok?" She didn't wait for a reply, too surprised by the spectre to listen anyway. A spooked Malky was a bad mix. Madness and fear didn't sit well with each other.

So, she forgot her fears the second she left the door and was coming upon another. "Look! Look! Generosity's key not the Giovanni. Let's be generous today, steal some stuff to give away!" Her tail was the last thing to enter the room. And jackpot. It was full of art, even though it was another office. They might be able to find what they were looking for here. Her eyes narrowed as she headed leapt up onto the desk, her gaze searching it's surface for intersting objects that might be used to further their plans. Nada, a paperweight in the shape of a skull but nothing else. She picked up the skull, bounced it on her footpaw then kicked it towards the doorway.
PostPosted: Wed May 07, 2008 7:56 pm

Silvana started to follow Naya but stopped tilting her head wondering what the other Malkavian saw, she herself saw nothing and hardly cared at all. So she simply followed after Naya with out a care. "Come on chop chop hurry hurry!" She let out a yelp and smacked the skull aside in mid air before continuing in. "Aim next time and not at me!"

She tipped paintings over, peaking here, checking there, she eventually flopped down in a chair behind a desk, legs kicked up as she rummages through draws till finally something caught her eye, swirly signatures, pretty gold letters. "These look pretty..." she spun about getting up scooping the skull, "To steal or not to... hell lets take em. Grab that painting of Caine, I like it..."

Naya turned abruptly to eye her companion and cast her a charmingly demented grin. "Sorry lovely." She purred, turning back and opening desk drawers, her tail propped high into the air as she went through stacks of books with black covers. One said something about a 'deed' but she tossed that sucker right on out with the rest of the garbage. Who knew what good a 'deed' would do them anyhow. She stuck her tongue out, wrinkled her nose and went on. That was when she got the bright idea. A big, bright idea. "Silvana, we'll hang the pictures on the floor. In the hall. All the pictures so there will be no walking in the hall!" It was a good idea, they needed a grand prank and this could be it. They'd already colored on everything and they'd need to get out soon.

She began knocking paintings off the wall, the room was covered in art, there would be enough. Her smile was alight in anticipation as she grabbed the one of Caine and set it aside, cocking her head curiously at it. Huh, he looked serious. Trotting over to her co-hort she yawned and stretched her arms. "You've got the papers? We need to finish this. We've stayed long enough already." Her exotic gaze burned brightly, Malkies may seem like they had no point in what they were doing most often, but there was always a point. It was time to make it.

The power that was in Amadeo’s gaze caused a shiver to run down Thane’s spine. It caused a vague moment of annoyance. He wasn’t used to being intimidated by anyone. If someone was trying to make trouble and pick a fight, a firm whack usually fixed the problem. He was not a small guy. There was a great deal of strength behind him and yet standing here he felt like he was the mole-hill to Amadeo’s mountain. It was very disconcerting, especially when he couldn’t find any real reason for it. Unless it was Amadeo’s rank in the family that had him feeling so... Heh. He couldn’t even express it in words.

Thane took another sip of his drink, wishing he could just down the entire glass. His golden eyes followed Amadeo around the room; keeping on the other male. The firelight played across the Giovanni’s features, casting parts in shadow and highlighting others. The Buck was entranced by the sight, and silken words wound through his mind, bringing such promising ideas. There would be so much to gain from accepting this proposal; the respect that he deserved and a chance to work with the most ancient of runes.

Then Amadeo looked around, their gazes locked and Thane swallowed hard. His mortality was the price? The Buck gave a small snort, tilting his chin up and tearing his gaze away. He felt a trapped and his mind worked wildly. This could be a joke, but seeing the look in the powerful males eyes…. It couldn’t be. The grip on his glass tightened and he shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other.

“I… don’t understand. I’m willing to dedicate my life to the Giovanni and the runes I study… but…” His voice dropped lower. “That’s not quite what you mean… is it?”

"Yes, and no." Was Amadeo's reply, he could sense Thane's aprehension, his confusion. It was interesting to say the least, but not unusual. "This will require your life's dedication, just on a deeper level." He refrained from approaching the Buck, keeping his rigid stance by the fireplace in order to keep the level of calm that circulated the room at a strong level. Advancing on Thane might cause him to panick, Amadeo would have none of that in his office. He wasn't up for a game of tag. "The Giovanni are a wealthy, strong family as you well know. But under the everyday facade there lies a stronger power, the driving force behind the Giovanni. The undead." It wasn't difficult for him to explain, he'd done so on many ocassions. Amadeo had been in charge for quite some time now, he knew how to operate.

His eyes lingered on Thane as he spoke, keeping a kind of bond with the male but his senses twitched and out of the corner of his eye he saw the little girl, she was mouthing something.. something he understood instantly. She vanished before Thane would be able to see her. Amadeo had to steady himself, his anger was suddenly peaked. None of this he allowed Thane to notice, his exterior as calm and alluring as ever it was. But inside he was raging. Intruders? He thought he'd sensed something a while ago but his focus was on Thane, he had to keep his attention on the task at hand, whoever they were he would deal with them in due time.

"With this gift, you will be able to pursue your work without the fear of death lingering at your doorstep. It is the only way to allow you access to the work we will be having you do. And I can assure you, the fruits of this project will be far more, rewarding, than those of anything you have previously done." He began again, his paw poised on the mantle above the fire, supporting him as he leaned. He had to be careful what he told Thane, for the time being.
PostPosted: Fri May 16, 2008 4:02 am

The Buck dropped his gaze down to the glass and stared at the liquid inside, a frown creasing his brow. It was difficult to get a firm grasp of what was on offer here. Death, but not a true death. He would find himself in a state of undeath where he could study his runes for eternity. The shock that his family was being run by a bunch of the undead was enough to wish he could just turn around, walk out the door, take a nap and then come back again when his head was clear. He closed his eyes and let out a sigh, allowing his unease to wash away. There was no point in letting it overwhelm him. That was not the way he worked. What he needed to do was grab the facts and make a decision based on what information he had and also his own instincts.

The price was his mortality. Taking that literally it meant that he would die. But was that truly so much of a price to pay? Apparently he would still have enough animation and thought in his body to do what was necessary. Life was just one part of ‘being’. He might not be breathing but he would still be ‘Thane’, and the rewards would be so much greater than if he refused. The idea of the amazing things he would have access to with the full support of the Giovanni behind him almost made him start salivating. Yes, there would be so much more for him in death, than in life.

His instincts gave one little whimper of alarm. Thane decided to ignore it. The facts weighed in the favor of saying yes. Sure there would probably be a few nasty bits and pieces involved. But there was no gain without pain. The Buck finally looked up from his glass. Looking much calmer than he was feeling, he placed the glass on the table and then turned his gaze to the unmoving form of Amadeo. The decision had been made; no going back now.

“I accept.”

Amadeo could feel his confusion, like a sour sheen on the air. It was nothing he hadn't seen before in soon to be embraced family members. Some hadn't even been allowed this much of an introduction, but he frowned on simply pouncing the considered, unless absolutely necessarry, it was quite innappropriate. Of course when they ran you had little choice but to revert to more natural or instinctual methods. "I know this is all very overwhelming Thane." He began quietly, his eyes aglow in the faint firelight, his strength radiating, pulsing out to touch the other male and ease his mind. "It may seem impossible, but I was in your position once upon a time, so your fears are not unknown to me." Amadeo's situation had been a little different than Thane's, all right, quite different. But before you were embraced you were all basically on the same page. Thane needn't know how thin the strings were that attached their situations to one another or to any other who'd become Giovanni Vampires, but Amadeo recalled the feeling, if only faintly. That fear before the inevitable claimed you, that hesitation before the headlong dive into the abyss.

"You will be neither dead nor alive, you will be forced to prey upon the living to sustain your unlife but you will gain so much more in return. Though I do not envy you this next step before you will become a true Giovanni Vampire." The Proxy Kiss, it was a dangerous trial and Amadeo all too well remembered the agony he himself had to endure to become what he now was. It was a feeling he preferred to forget since it had nearly spelled his demise. His thoughts snapped from the past, from the nearness of final death he'd all too nearly faced in his mortality at the hands of his Sire, he beckoned Thane forward with a simple gesture of his paw. "Come, the otherworld awaits you my Kin." Amadeo was a careful Sire, he knew very well how to keep his childer from death, but it was still never a guaruntee that the victim would survive. It was what seperated the Giovanni vampires from all others. Only the strongest Childer walked the unlife, all others were seperated as wheat from chaff.
