Ronin nodded. "Often enough. This place is so peaceful." Ronin moved a little closer to Ren as they walked. "I spend most of my time exploring. And this just happens to be one of my favorite places." He brushed his fluffy tail against her slender one. "Where do you spend most of your time?"

"No one place in particular really," she replied, brushing her tail back against his. "I mainly just try to keep to forested areas and wander around from there. Easier to avoid others that way." Ren chuckled slightly at just how reclusive that made her sound. Perhaps now after practicing with Ronin for a while should could venture out more. The vixen looked up at the phim with a smile. Course, I'm perfectly content just staying with him for now.

"You know...I have been avoiding others as well. Not on purpose I don't think. Or at least not consciously," he looked at the ground. "But I just distanced myself from others. I think it started because I..felt I wasn't good enough. That I had to become stronger," Ronin confessed. He then realized how honest he had been, and felt slightly embarrassed. "But I taught myself to fly. And now I have no excuse for staying away from others." He looked back up at Ren and smiled, trying to seem confident again. A little light could be seen shining in from around the corner. They were getting close to the opening of the cave.

Ren was slightly surprised to hear all of this, considering how outgoing he had seemed when they first met. However, once Ronin had finished talking, she gave him a warm smile and rubbed up against his side. "And it seems that neither do I. So, shall we as inherent loners stick together for a while then?" she suggested playfully, far cry from the way she usually acted on her own. It was a nice change though.

Ronin raised a curious eyebrow at Ren then grinned. "I'd like that," he said seriously, "...more than you know," he chuckled. As they continued on, they eventualy came to an opening. The brilliant sunlight was blinding at first, but as they stepped out into it, their eyes quickly adjusted revieling a white blanket of snow on the ground. Oddly enough, it didn't feel very cold at all.
(it's been a month since I last posted! Man, I need to get it together)

(lol, yes, as do I. XD) "Ah, snow," she remarked, still grinning slightly as she played around with the powdery white substance with her paw. "So, you still have yet to tell me what this mystery meal is that we will be hunting. Are we getting close?" Of course, for all Ren knew this mystery meal might even be some type of fruit or plant, but she just sort of assumed it was a hunt of some type due to his notions of a 'challenge'. Whatever it was though she was looking forward to sharing it with the phim beside her.

Ronin couldn't help but reveal a devious grin. "Oh yes, very close." He trotted forward a bit and stopped to listen. A low rumble could be heard coming from the other side of some rocks. "...Ah, he's asleep." Ronin turned back to Ren. "Quietly now," he whispered as he motioned for her to follow him.

Ren's curiosity was more than peaked by this simple gesture and proclamation. She eagerly trotted over to Ronin's side and followed him silently and stealthily.

On the other side of the rocks slept a massive horned creature. It seemed to be a ram, but larger than any normal ram. It appeared to be sleeping, but one could not tell for sure for its eyes were covered by a knotted tuft of hair. Ronin moved closer to Ren and whispered into her ear. "Whatever you do, don't let him see you." He grinned deviously once again and winked. Suddenly, he leaped up into the air, wings flapping, and came crashing down right on top of the sleeping beast. The ram jumped up in a frenzy and tried to throw Ronin from its back, but Ronin dug his claws in and held on for as long as he could.

Oh? What kind of challenge would that be? Ren thought to herself as she watched the struggle. Nevertheless she attempted to heed Ronin's words by sneaking around to the back-side of the creature before attacking. The striped vixen dug her claws through the hair and into the animal's back-end and clamped on tight.
(Heck, feel free to kick her off the mountain side or something else if you wish to throw in some sort of plot twist, lol. XD)

Relieved that Ren had been able to attack without being seen, Ronin turned his attention to bringing the beast down. He bit down hard on the side of its neck, peircing the thick flesh. But this wound that was meant to render the creature helpless only enraged it more. The beast rammed up against the rocky cliff side, sending Ronin flying forward into the rocks with it. His head smacked against the wall and he fell down in front of the creature. The ram stared into Ronin's eyes and instantly Ronin began smacking his head against the ground, causing more damage. He put his paws over his eyes and snarled, maddened by the pain.
Now that Ronin was powerless, the ram turned its attention to Ren, who had managed to stay attached to the beast. He slammed his rump into the rocks until he felt her losing her hold on him. Finally, he kicked violently in the air trying to throw her off the cliff.

Ren felt as if she were in some very painful rendition of a rodeo. It took everything she had in her to stay clamped on as the beast slammed her mercilessly into the rocks. When it went to buck her off it succeeded, but at a dear price to itself. Ren never released her grip so when she was torn away from it a large chunk of flesh where her claws had been went with her. It let out a loud cry of pain as its back-side bled freely.
Meanwhile, the striped vixen tumbled helplessly down the side a small distance until she rolled onto the flat part of another cliff below. She had hit many different rocks along the way and was now badly cut up, bruised, and rather disoriented. Damn it, I should have just used my eyes on it, she thought to herself in a fog. Put these things to good use for once... Ren tried vainly to stand back up but immediately collapsed back onto the ground. Ok, I'll wait for some of my orientation to return before trying that again.
(Go in for the kill, Ronin! XD lol.)

Ronin lay dazed for a moment, trying to figure out what had happened. He couldn't remember anything for a moment, but soon realized what had just happened. The ram had looked at him...just what he told Ren not to let it do. Ronin removed his paws from his eyes just in time to see Ren bucked off the ram with a huge chunk of flesh. Ronin stood dizzily and lunged toward the ram. He ripped at its wound until it could no longer stand. Then he grabbed its neck and twisted it as hard as he could until he felt it snap. As soon as he was sure the beast was dead, he quickly rushed to the edge of the cliff and peered down at Ren.
"Ren!" he almost screamed, then he tried to calm himself, "...are you alright?" He flitted into the air and softly landed beside her. He blinked, feeling his eyes still burning and his head still trobbing. Blood seemed to have stained the fur around his eyes.

"Hmm?" Ren replied, shaking her head a little to try to get out of the daze. Course, that actually made it worse. "Well, no, but I've been worse," she said with a small laugh, wrapping her tail lightly around Ronin's leg to make sure that he was actually there and she was not just seeing things. She couldn't quite stand up yet, but she did manage to roll herself over into a slightly more upright position. "Did you finish him off?"

Ronin nodded. "Yes, he's dead...I hope," he half laughed. He placed a paw over hers, and he finally noticed the blood on his paws that had seemed to come from his eyes. He pushed it to the back of his mind. "You're pretty banged up," he said plainly, trying to hide his terrible worry for her. He wanted so badly to curl himself around her and nurse her wounds, but was afraid he might hurt her more, or even upset her. He felt guilty for her getting hurt. He knew the ram was dangerous, which was why he hadn't been able to kill it ever before when he was alone. He looked down at Ren and closed his eyes as he felt a new burning sensation. He thought at first it might have been caused from looking into Ren's eyes, but he soon realized that it was from the tears that were starting to well up. He groaned at his own weakness and lay down beside her to care for her cuts. He gently licked a small wound on her forearm, then looked up at her to be sure it was alright.
