"Does he know about this?" he asked, trying to keep fear out of his voice as he motioned nonchalantly to the boy's ears. He didn't know everything about Blacksuits, but he did know that if they knew about the Game they were all basically screwed.

The young cossack took a deep breath to help his steady himself. "I have no vay of knowing for zure, but I vood sink not given zat you are still here. My fazer iz not vun to vait if sumsing iz to be done. However, sinking back on zings he said, it is safe to assume zat he and his colleagues have ideas, and are probably clozer zan you suspect."
Vlad looked around and thought that the atmosphere might not be best for such talks. "Any place ve can go to talk zat iz a bit more secure?"

"As far as my experience goes," replied Fish, "They don't know the whole of it, but they know something's up." He looked around, summarizing how secure their surroundings were. Ambient noise masked their conversation.
"This is the safest place, trust me," he said. "In this zone, the more you can stay out of the alleys the better off you are."
The waitress brought his water and he downed it in a single gulp. The gills on his neck flared.
"You're pretty green at this," he observed. "How long have you been in?"

Vlad nodded at what he had been told. It was good to know that this was a pretty safe place.
"Vell, I've been at zis for a few days now. A man calling himselv Anubis gave me somezing from Fenrir, zen I turned into a large volf. Ze next day I met Maria and Writ. Vot about you?"

Fish shrugged. He still hadn't met Anubis, the other Judge besides Persy, but he knew Maria and Writ. "Since April or so," he said. "You should get out of this zone as soon as you can. It's swarming with *****, maybe that wasn't true, but it still wasn't somewhere a kid needed to be.

"Very vell, I vill heed your varning. Sank you. However, you seem like ze smartest of ze godling's I've met. I believe zat my fazer and hiz friendz are a common sreat. Vot can ve do about zem?"
This was what Vlad could do. Planning, being sneaky, stabbing others in the back...a business woman mother and governmtent agent for a father, he grew up knowing how to play the game. He only hoped it could help him play, and hopefully win, in this Game.

"Maria and Writ aren't tough to beat on the brains department," shrugged Fish, meeting the boy's gaze. He knew what was going on here, and he wasn't buying it. He'd worked with Miss Floros enough to know not to give information away for free.
"Stay away from them 'till you're bigger," advised Fish. "They're not magic, but they're armed, and a gun will kill you faster than anyone's powers will."
There. That wasn't incriminating in either direction. It wasn't his fault if the kid got his head blasted off. After all, he'd warned him.

Vlad's irritation at this whole mess made his good english speech come out again. "Fine. Thank you for what you have told me. Keep me informed if you see my father, zo. Him...and one particular cohort I can think of. He was a large bald man who has a black rose tatoo on the back of his skull...." Vlad trailed off, a cold look in his eyes.
After a moment, he shook and said, "My father worries me, but that man... He always made me shiver." The young cossack got up, leaving money for another cute waitress and headed for a club he had heard some good music coming from on his way here.
