Alanna the Pirate Queen

Feral Vampire

Michiko nodded and stepped back only once, before sitting down and blinking sadly, "You are you... and no one can take that away..." She felt as if her job was done. Though the look in Morna's eye now was no better than the one had had moments ago, it was at least the look that would be in Morna's eye... the look he had earlier, was that of a monster, one in pain. Morna still had a looked of frenzy in his eyes, but it was more controlled. What he did next would be his doing, and not the doing of whatever had taken over his mind just moments ago.

The way she was looking at him now... watching him unmoving. There was no way she could have known what that reminded him of, no chance of it being an intentional copy.

But there she stood. It was a perfect replica of that night except that night seemed so long ago and they were in the middle of the forest that was so far away. The only thing that could possibly be the same was the moon, that bright infinitely luminescent moon shining down upon them both. The moon and Michiko's -yes, Michiko was her name.- calm regard. That was what made it perfect.

His fury left him for a beautiful blankness. Free from chatter, distraction, life and sin. He pushed off the ground and spread his wings just slightly, enough to carry him the distance without falter.

His claws stretched out, his mouth wide and inviting in it's grimace.

Soon it would be over and the cycle complete.

Michiko turned, her animal instincts finally taking over. She had wanted to stay, but she knew stopping Morna now was like trying to stop a rabid bear, impossible. She turned around and made a single bound before turning sharply to the left and diving under the undergrowth. She wondered if the brambles would slow him down at all. She didn't stop to check, she just ran. Morna didn't care for anything, he wanted blood and she wasn't about to give him hers just yet. For some reason, she wanted to live; she wanted to live because she knew Morna didn't want her too. She scolded herself, feeling like a pup, you don't care about keeping something until it was gone. So she ran, and did not look back, all the time ready for the stinging rake of his claws upon her skin.

The way she ran... it was wrong. Mornandum's claws crashed down where she had been an instant earlier and his back legs followed. So wrong. Incongruous and surreal in that one instant, hanging there silently for what seemed like an eternity.

Then his legs pushed off the ground again. This time he was a little faster, a little more certain of his aim. He would taste her blood yet.

And there it was. The tuft of her green tail was trapped beneath a black claw and his jaws were descending. He could already feel the heat of her on his tongue. Soon he would be inundated with that heat. Then it would go out.

Michiko felt Morna right behind her, and could do nothing as he grabbed onto her tail. She felt his breath and instant before it was on her and she jumped up trying to bang her head into his chin. She didn't know if it would hit the mark, or miss, but at least she had flung her body backwards. Unfortunately she had forgotten he had a hold of her tail and as she writhed while falling backwards, yelping in pain as his claws sunk into her tail.

Michiko's blow knocked Mornandum's head backwards and away from his target but her move had only sunk his claws deeper into her tail. Some part of his mind recognized the pain that she had caused but it only intensified the part that didn't. He needed blood, her blood, and nothing else would suffice. His head lashed out again, jaws gaping wide. This time he aimed for her unprotected back and delicate wings.

Living things tore so easily, after all.

As Michiko fell backward she saw Morna's jaws coming at her. She felt like a mouse, trapped in the claws of a giant cat... How would a mouse get away from a cat...? As Morna's mouth neared, apparently he was aiming for her middle this time. Miko was strangely calm in this situation, just as she had been when she had first seen Morna earlier. She lashed out her front paws and tried to hook onto his mouth, hoping she wouldn't miss. For once in her life, she wished she was a better hunter... Oh ya... mice don't get away from cats....

Mornandum saw the blows aimed for his mouth and decided that if she wanted to offer another portion of herself for his teeth that he wouldn't stop her. He snaked his head back enough to avoid having the inside of his mouth clawed up but then forward again to catch the paws... to catch them and then begin to sink his teeth in through fur, skin, and what lay beneath it. His claw holding her tail didn't let go and he rocked back on his back legs to free his other claw from beneath him. That one he aimed for her unprotected flank while both her forelimbs and her tail was immobilized. It was too late for this one. He had won.

Michiko yelped as the bones in her paw crunched in Morna's teeth. As he stretched her out she felt the joint in her shoulder on the bursting point. Michiko snarled, her fear and pain evolved into anger. "Morna you beast, let go of me you deranged dragonfly! What is the point of killing me?!" As she saw Morna shift and get ready to literally rip her in half she yelled, "What will you get from it? More blood to add to your dark heart?!" She stuck out her back paws as a brace and snaked her free paw up and over his muzzle to try and reach his eyes, or at least his glasses. She felt the edge of his glasses and tried to flip them off while holding her back leg up and out so that she could catch Morna's back paws if they came at her.

This was seemed like it could quickly become more aggravating than annoying. The fact that his thoughts had returned to him enough for him to recognize that was enough of a distraction. She shouldn't be talking so much. Or breathing so much, for that matter.

He twisted his head to avoid her reaching back paw, pushing his teeth further into her front as a result. Well. If she was going to play that game then he'd try something of his own. He bent his head low to the ground, taking Michiko's paws with it. In the same instant that he let go of her tail he heaved upwards with his neck and shoulders, letting go of Michiko mid-arc.

Once he remembered her curiosity at his wings. Now he'd see how she enjoyed a flight of her own. It was only unfortunate that her pathetic excuses for wings wouldn't help her avoid the tree that he had launched her at.

Michiko yelped in pain and surprise as she was launched into the air. Her body was light, too light for that of a dragonfly since she basically didn't eat, living off of water most of the time. She went up into the branches of the tree above her, crashing through a few of them before hitting one too thick for her frail body to break through. Her back hit it, and she curled backwards a bit, feeling some of her ribs break. She whimpered and finally her momentum lessend and she began to fall back down. She fell a few feet before she thought to grab onto onto of the branches. Flinging out her paws, Miko grabbed onto one with her front paws and was dangling by her shoulders, her feet scrambling in the air to try and get a purchase of some sort so she could get completely onto the branch. For a few panicked moments, Miko thought she was stuck, when she finally found the trunk of the tree and swung herself onto the branch. The branch she was on was thin, precariously hanging above Morna's snapping jaws and slashing claws. Her eyes blurred with tears at the pain, but she blinked them away. She had to find some way to get away before either the branch broke, or before Morna came after her.
