Katrina blinked when Chris picked up the tree, and then grinned. "You're such a helpful boy for your daddy, he must be very proud of you," she said, reaching down to pat him on the head. Melchy squirmed out of Katrina's arms, landed on his feet, and went over to tug on the tree, not to be shown up by a new crew member.
Katrina chuckled and nodded to Tyler. "If you could help, I'd be eternally grateful," she said with a smile, gently removing Melchy from the tree and picking her end up.

"It's the least I can do," Tyler said as he helped her with the tree. Chris followed, his own tree over his shoulder, his gold eyes watching the area curiously.
Trees would be more fun if they were bigger, he decided. But at least now he had a good back scratcher!

“Thank you,” Katrina said brightly, wincing but not falling over when Melchy took another flying leap and clambered up onto her back, where he promptly fluffed his ears and tail and looked down at Chris.
“We goin’ naow?” he asked, almost whining. Katrina sighed and nodded.
“This is my car,” she said to Tyler, stopping at the small vehicle and hoisting her end of the tree up onto the roof, where she promptly lashed it down and moved to take Tyler’s end as well. “Yup, Melch me lad, we’re on our way home,” she answered finally, lashing the tree firmly to the roof. Melchy made a sad whining yowl, and Katrina chuckled. “Don’t want to leave?” she asked.
“Noooo!” Melchy yowled. Katrina chuckled.
“You like Chris?”
“Wanna play!” Melchy whined. Katrina looked over at Tyler, smiled, and pulled a piece of paper and a pen from her pocket. She scribbled a phone number down and handed it to him.
“Here,” she said brightly, “give me a call whenever Chris is available to play; I think he and Melchy will get along well,” she finished. “We’ll be around, and perhaps I’ll sign this one up for daycare.”
Melchy seemed to brighten at this, and he grinned, waving furiously at little Chris. “Play again!” he crowed as Katrina removed him from her shoulders and went to strap him into his carseat. “Bai!”
Katrina shook her head and smiled.

Chris and Tyler waved before Tyler pocketed the address with a smile. "Looks like you made a new friend, Chris," he said as they turned and headed for their truck. Chris smiled and handed the tree over happily.
He was going to need a bath when he got home from all the tree sap.

Katrina waved as they went, then walked around to her side of the car, opened the door, and got in. Well, it was always good to make contacts.
...she didn't remember that she hadn't purchased a yule log until they were halfway home.
