"So you'd find humor if I were a sneezing, rambling mess?" Ferrao asked, incredulous. Laughter made his timbre waver, "Bit of a devilish thing, aren't you?"
He felt a twinge of guilt as her gaze swept the ground, feeling as though he had toed the line and leapt clear across it. The stallion had never second guessed his chosen words until now; her smile, however, almost caused a sigh of relief to pass his lips.
"It may not make sense, but that makes it all the more admirable. The ability to free yourself, well...."
Her confidence in him made the corners of his lips twitch upwards again. His fluted ears swung back in though, dark brows drawing in.
"Maybe I am a bit like a bird, but I'm not cage...no. I'm just afraid -- uncertain about leaving the nest, if you will. Not that I don't dream about it, or yearn for an independence I can't quite grasp, but I don't think -- I just -- "
He trailed off, searching desperately for words he could not find.
"I think it's my role to look after my family, watch over them though I'm the youngest. I think, sometimes, that maybe I should be the last to take off -- spread my wings and leave the side of my family," he admitted, voice lowering until the stream behind him sounded something like a roar over his words. He dropped his head, eyes crinkling.
"It's like a love affair...but one you're ashamed of. One that you don't want others to notice, because...because your family wouldn't approve of it." He gave a sudden bark-like laugh, that was as dry and dead as the autumn leaves. "Look at me, comparing it to a tryst!"
Ferrao had tried in earnest to joke, but it fell short, sounding as despondent and as lost as he felt.

"I'm more than devilish. But dont worry, if you should stay on my good side, you wont be seeing any more of that." Giving him a charming smile, she continued on to their train of conversation.
"Not a caged bird, but similar towards one who can fly, but doesnt fly?" She looked thoughtful, but shook her head.
"Well, I expected your parents must have done the same thing, to have found each other. I've no doubt that they expect you to leave, one day or another. Continuing to stay with them because of a feeling of obligation will only worsen the burden on yourself and your parents. Your miserable, and your parents (probably) wish for your happiness, thus if you are miserable, then they are miserable. " That was her equation anyways, often, her logic didnt and did make sense.
"Similar to a love tryst, the affair itself will become a shackle. The constant secrets, feelings of being found out, all that nice stuff. " Giving him a, hopefully, consoling smile, she knew there wasnt much that she could do. What experience did she have in these matters? Zero.
"Forgive me if my words seem callous or insensitive. I haven't been through either situations so I can only imagine what you are feeling." The sentence was accompanied with nervous laughter, "You make me deal with things I've never known. Its a welcoming experience, but I fear that I cant say all the correct things. She shrugged helplessly, her eyes filled with a touch of sadness for the other stallion.

A sheepish chuckle made his body quiver.
"No, no. You make perfect sense to one who has no sense to speak of. Really, your words are insightful." The corners of his eyes creased with a genuine smile, albeit apologetic, "Though I must apologize for speaking so candidly. It really isn't like me."
Ferrao gave the ground an awkward paw, his gaze lowering in hope of finding something else to focus on. He thought he should have felt a bit more guilty for dumping his inhibitions upon the poor mare, but he didn't; she had offered a willing ear and he had taken it. He was simply glad that she had listened, and responding...well, she had given him more than he had expected, and he was grateful.
There was a clarity to her words that he had been unable to find, that he had been too stressed to find. Perhaps an outsider looking in was what he had needed all along, to calm his aching nerves.
"What you've said has been more than enough for me," he said with a quiet earnestness. "You've lessened the weight of my guilt. Immensely."
The moon had already changed positions when he looked up next. This time, he felt much more at ease, a calm settling over his body. He gave a soft hum, which built up and crescendoed into a laugh.
"What a sober conversation! And on such a nice night."

"Me. Insightful? I'm surprised." She said with a laugh, hoping to lighten the atmosphere. "But no apologies needed. We all act out of sorts at one point or another. " And to tell the truth, she was happy having someone entrust her with things. All her life, she had been assumed shallow, and unable to understand any depth of things. Well, her personality did give that sort of impression, but could it hurt to think beyond her personality and impressions?
Surprised at the stallion's next words, she replied "I think you overestimate me, but all the same. I'm happier if your happier." She gave him a flirtatious smile, a warm feeling settling inside of her because of the stallion's words. Had her words really helped? Was this how somebody felt, after they had helped another? She really didn't know, seeing that it was her first time.
"But I think we can be forgiven, but nevertheless, what shall we change the topic to?" She pretended to look thoughtful, before adding in sheepishly "I cant think of anything. You? We've exhausted many of the usual conversations, and more already."
