Much of the humor dissipated from his eyes. An anger took over. The stallion jumped into the air and landed right in front of where Wyrsa was headed.
His fangs were bared and a true growl came from his throat. "You DARE threaten me? Pathetic mare, you do not even know what you are talking about. To take on a kalona is not easy feat, and while the wings are the weakest part of our anatomy it is far from being exposed." Tloc spread one of his wings, the rage of the threat running through his whole body.
The wing swept forward with pinpoint precision and his own flames brightened to offer more light. Small claws sparkled in the flickering light and to add more to the effect, the stallion took a swipe at her. With blinding speed, the wing was back at his side, and a slow swelling of blood gathered at the thin line one of those claws had connected with skin on her face.
"Your scales may offer extra protection for you, but everything of a Kalona is made to protect his wings." Tloc stepped closer, his own face in hers. "Nothing you could do could ground me," he hissed through his teeth.

Wyrsa hissed in surprise as Tloc landed right in front of her. The surprise quickly gave way to anger as he threatened her. Part of her was quivering in terror, part of her was coolly examining the situation. The part in control of her body watched the stallion's body with appreciation.
The pissed-off part of the mare took control as she felt short, thin lines of fire being drawn along her flank. Luckily, no scales came off this time. Wyrsa shook herself to resettle dislodged scales and turned her yellow glare on Tloc.
"We'll have to see about that," she snarled, voice quavering very slightly with suppressed fear. "But there are other Kalona out there. Who knows, maybe one of them will ground you," the mare retorted with a nasty chuckle.

Tloc would not be diswayed from his own argument. He would not let her win. Sure, he knew another kalona could quite possible bring him down... but then again he might bring them down. He was used to the harsh nature and hardening effect of the desert, they were not.
He was so mad, Tloc didn't even notice that the mare was ever so afraid of him - which was probably good as the role of prey would probably have set him off again, and who knew where that would lead.
"IF I were to see another kalona; IF we battled; IF they won; MAYBE I would be grounded... but either way it would be THEY that gave the ending blow, NOT you." He ground his teeth, and not quietly given the sharp tips of his fang-ridden maw.

"Hmph," was Wyrsa's response. She hated to agree...but there were some distinct disadvantages. Perhaps if she met more Kalona...perhaps she could learn more about them...maybe find a weakness...or maybe just find one that she could...ah...persuade to attack Tloc. To teach him a lesson of course.
But she didn't let any of that show on her face. She just let her disregard for the stallion show. Stupid male. She'd see him grounded one day, somehow.

"'Hmph' is right," Tloc nodded, glad that he had won - even if it was his arrogance that lead to a mare's plot for revenge. Then again, the mares he was mostly acquainted with were not as... persistent as Wyrsa.
His point made, his anger situated for now, the stallion took a step back, letting the mare get a bit of fresh air again.
"Mares," he coughed as he looked away - though kept an eye on Wyrsa. "Do you never learned?" Tloc looked back at her again, his own mischief sparkle back, as if the argument was already forgotten. "Didn't I say last time that not having an escort could be dangerous?" He shook his head, long silky mane mixing with his own blood. "You might get hurt."
Not that he.... cared, he worked to convince himself.

Wyrsa coolly looked the stallion up and down before replying. She was grateful that he'd backed up again, but she wasn't about to let that show.
"Didn't I tell you before," she asked, mocking his tone, "that I knew you'd show up? Why would I need an escort if I have you?" The mare leaned closer, whispering near his ear. "After all, who would want to mess with a Kalona?" she queried softly, stoking his ego once more before taking a step back and surveying him from a greater distance.
"Afraid I'll get hurt?" Wyrsa replied, snickering. It was too ironic, a Kalona stallion, worried that she might get hurt!

He wasn't really buying it... why in the world would she want him to be around? First of all, he was a kalona. Second, he was dangerous. Third, he wasn't much of a conversationalist. When Wyrsa leaned towards him and whispered he didn't flinch.
But he couldn't resist playing along a little. "Exactly..." The stallion made a snap of his fangs in her direction. "And if anyone's going to harm you... it'll be ME!" The corner of his mouth lifted in a smerk.
Of course, he'd want another piece of her - literally.

The mare tossed her head, impatient with Tloc's obtuseness. "Of course there are advantages to you being around!" she snapped. "But if you're too blind to see 'em, why should I enlighten you?"
The anger was quickly burning through any and all desire to remain near the Kalona...though she was aware that if he moved just right, it would be the anger melting away instead. Ah well, that was life. A bit sadly, Wyrsa decided it was rather unlikely that the latter would happen. The stallion just didn't realize what it was she saw in him. Which was probably for the better, considering that if he really knew how to work her, she'd be fawning over him in mere moments.

"Why indeed," Tloc looked at the mare from the corner of his eye. He had really no idea what she was talking about. He wondered for a moment why he was still there, why he hadn't just killed her while he was eating her flesh. Why, why, why?
He was turning soft, like his mother. That must have been it! That pathetic creature was rubbing off on him.
The kalona had stared off but turned his gaze back to Wyrsa, "Why AM I wasting my time here?" Tloc snarled and lunged forward, taking a small n** of flesh for the trip back. Savoring that last juicy morsel of scaled mare-flesh, Tloc jumped into the air to fly off into the distance. He needed to think this out... and he needed to be away from her to do so.

Wyrsa watched the stallion sourly as he flew away. Idiot. He really had no idea what he had going for him with any and all females, she decided. Otherwise he would know better. The mare shook herself, trying to gauge the last bite wound. What was he trying to do anyway...eat her? Kalona were so odd.
And yet...they were so much what she wished she could be. Well, maybe without the wings. Wyrsa wasn't so keen on leaving the ground behind. But she did wish she could be more like a Kalona. More equal to one. Then she wouldn't spend the few hours following an encounter with one shaking like a windblown autumn leaf as she was now.
She looked back up to the sky. Had she disturbed him or (she almost didn't dare think it) scared him? Was it something she'd said? She could never know.
Bah, all this woolgathering was getting her nowhere. She shook herself all over, settling her scales once more, and started back towards the cool darkness of the forest. She was really starting to dislike Tloc's habit of getting the last word in by virtue of his wings. As she walked, the mare began to plot more of what she hoped would be the stallion's downfall.
