"I thought as much." Even though she said that, his response was still... Unexpected. She had thought in the back of her mind that he would respond in such a fashion, however, she had let it go as mere speculation. She'd heard stories about how he'd come to be here. Rumors, nothing more than fairy tales. But those same fairy tales would explain a lot now.

"Tell me about her. That girl who tried to tame you." She spoke without emotion, saying nothing more underneath the baseline of her words.

He cracked open an eye and closed it, snorting and trying to hide the soft blush that had risen on his scales. He blinked and lifted his head in surprise at her next statement.

She wanted to know...? His claws captured the necklace around his neck and his eyes softened. Though her tone confused him. Why did she want to know? No matter... He would tell his story.

"Her name... was Heather..." He started slowly, staring off into the distance, going to some far away land and to a far away time. When his world was carefree. "... She was my trainer since I was a Charmander, before I'd even learned my ember attack... She wanted a companion to travel with... and I was gifted to her. A human had taken away my freedom before I'd understood it... It was that Human that gave me away to her.

She was an odd one... She'd always talk to me, although I couldn't answer, asking me stupid questions, annoying me, hugging me, telling me that I was her best friend. I, however, never felt the same. I wanted to return to the wild and fend for myself. I bluntly ignored her orders, even at a young age. She wore these ridiculous pair of meowth ears and insisted that I never stayed in my Pokeball. She wanted me beside her at all times... to annoy me I think. Or maybe she was really that lonely."

He lowered his head to the ground and let his unfocused eyes picture her image. "She and I eventually gained a team of Pokemon, like with any other trainer. She was enthusiastic and always trusted me in battle above all others. I won't lie and say that it wasn't a pride for me. I evolved and still her affections never wavered and I became more annoyed. I wanted nothing more then to leave and often plotted to run away. I think she understood from the looks she gave me and the way she'd stroke my head... We were like that for years... and then ... it happened.

She returned to her hometown and I was left to care for the younger Pokemon we had. I was there to train them and make sure they didn't get in trouble at the Research Lab where I'd been held captive... She stopped coming by for nearly two months and once she did show up I... noticed she lacked her luster. It was almost as if she had suddenly grown from 'nothing can harm us!' to being so tired she'd barely smile. I figured it was from lack of having an adventure to entertain her."

Regret filled his eyes and voice as he took in a breath. "I was wrong... The female was sick... very sick... and had returned to find out about something she'd found wrong with herself. I was none the wiser and she never mentioned it... To my surprise she gave away all her Pokemon to young trainers. All except for me... and for an instant that spark returned when she asked me if I would mind going for another run at a few gym battles. I was proud that she'd asked me to rejoin her and my fighting pride had never died down. I agreed and we were off...

Two months..." His voice sounded forlorn and sad. "Two months... and it was over. I was fighting a Blastoise... She was so sure I'd win despite type disadvantage that I had to believe her. Following her orders, and making a few of my own, I finished him off, waiting to hear her congratulations... I didn't...

When I got back to the platform she was dead. Her heart having given out on her. I still do not know what killed her... I wasn't paying attention. I took the pendant she'd given me for my birthday off my Pokeball, as I refused to wear the trifle thing and placed it around my neck... and the rest went to ashes. I burned everything. Her body, the gym, those who tried to revive her. Everything went down in tears of flame. I destroyed everything, going completely mad with rage..." His claws dug into the earth as he struggled to keep collected in front of the Absol at the painful memories.

"It was then that those humans came in... They sent Pokemon after Pokemon to dislodge me from where I intended to die... I didn't understand it... at first. I'd dreamed of the moment I could run away and live as I wished... but when she died... so did a part of me... and I fully was determined to join her. Weeks went by... A scyther scared my face with its claws... Humans threw rocks and stones while their Pokemon tried to fight me to the death.

All failed... in my moment of weakness when I was just about ready to give my life to a final battle... THEY came... They took me down from the shadows and I awoke here... That is her story... of the Human who managed to tame a wild dragon... and break his cold heart."

Bliss was quiet, silent throughout the Charizard's story. So quiet that if someone didn't know any better, they'd think she was asleep. He breathing was calm for once, her eyes peacefully shut instead of clenched tight. However, she'd learned how to appear asleep -almost as a way of training in case she got another chance to get the jump on that voice that had taunted her so long ago over those infernal speakers.

Charcoal's words revealed a story very much like what she had heard. But his version was much more personal, much more in depth than anyone else's. Which was precisely what she'd planned. If this was indeed the truth -and she had no reason to believe it wasn't- then his life was comparable to hers, oddly enough. "A tragedy that far surpasses any human performance." She commented quietly. "I would be lying if I even thought for a moment I could understand such a loss."

He turned his head toward her, his heart still wrapped up in his past. "You don't want to understand it..." He told her, resting his head down again. He curled closer afraid that one day her wounds would take her away.

"How did you come to be here...?" He asked softly.

She didn't reply to him at first. It was true that that pain was obviously very hard on him, even now. What an interesting little disaster he was. "My story?" It was only fair. After all, he had given her what she had wanted to hear. "I warn you, it might tell you a little more than you ever wanted to know about me."

"For as long as I can remember, I've been alone. No parents, no siblings. From what I can recount, however, I believe my brothers and sisters were captured as pups by a group of poachers, while my parents were apparently killed by those same men. They left behind some of their equipment. I suppose they were after me as well, but were in a rush and didn't have the time to chase me down. I can understand why they came -what greedy human wouldn't want to know when trouble was coming? And because Absols have such long lifespans, they don't need to breed very often. It was... A rare occasion, I assume.

For years after that, not much happened. I merely lived my life quietly in the forest. There was the occasional trainer who wandered in, full of themselves, believing that they were meant to be a 'Pokemon Master' or whatnot." She laughed, remembering the multitude of young humans who'd thought they stood a chance. "Needless to say, I always won out in the end." She frowned. "Almost always, anyway. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I was normally left in peace. However, one day I sensed a disaster so great I had to see what was the cause. Imagine my surprise when I found that it was emanating from the human city nearby. When I reached the area, there were already fires starting and general panic ran through the hearts of each and every one of them. I got too close, however, and for some reason, they attacked me. I was outnumbered, and pushed back into the forest, where I hid and waited to heal." She looked away for a moment, before returning with a sigh.

"One night, I felt the same force as before and followed it. This time, it was coming from my own home. I was met with unspeakable things, ghosts from a past I couldn't even remember. Not knowing what to do, I panicked and shot attacks in all directions, trying to destroy whatever I saw. I hit nothing other than trees, eventually clearing an entire section of the forest. It was only when the sun came up that I finally got a look at my tormentors. There were so many of them -Haunters, Gengars, Duskulls... They were everywhere, surrounding me. But they hated the sun more than they were amused by my suffering. They fled.

I'm a nocturnal being, Charcoal. I'm tired the most during the day. It's taken a long time to train myself to even be awake when you and the others are moving. Exhausted from a night of fighting for my mind, I collapsed in the middle of my trail of destruction. I awoke hours later to crunching leaves and snapping twigs -they were trying to be quiet, to catch me off guard, without a fight. But I heard them, Charcoal. I heard the humans that had been sent to come get me. I fought them, but I was so outnumbered that it didn't matter how strong or weak I was from the previous night. When I realized that I couldn't beat them, I tried to make a break for the dense forest, away from the blinding light.

After that, it's a blur. I charged at the one that seemed weakest, but he threw something at me. It looked a lot like one of the pokeballs those trainers attempted on me, but it was black as night. After that, everything goes dark until I wake up to some unknown human voice over some human contraption. He taunted me for a while, but was really only distracting me. Something was jabbed into my rear leg, and then it all went dark again." She finally finished with another sigh.

Charcoal listened intently to her story, his red eyes trained on hers. So she too had been captured but from the wild and in such a cruel way. He felt sorry for the female beside him. Ghosts? Humans? Captivation? It all seemed so... horrid. At least for the better part of his life he'd known the care of someone. She had had nothing.

Before he knew what he was doing, he'd leaned his long neck over her body and licked at her wound gently.

His motions were soft, apologetic, and comforting. At least they were supposed to be. He rumbled in his throat, a smooth sound as he cleaned te area, neck resting against her back. He hoped actions spoke louder then words.

Bliss was fully prepared for some comment about how sad her life had been. However, she was not ready for her story to strike him into silence. She was a better storyteller than she'd expected. Or maybe it was the content of the story itself, not the teller.

What she had expected even less was that he would begin to clean her wound. "Charcoal, you're..." What? Nothing she couldn't do herself, but she had thought the progression he was going through would indeed lead to something physical like this. "Going too far." She informed him simply.

"I'm sorry..." He whispered as he pulled up his head. He stared down at her then once again laid his head down by her. "Its just that I.. didn't know what else to do..."

There was sadness in his voice. "What they did to you, no matter the reason... they should pay... I understand your hatred... and those ghosts..." His teeth bared. "They'll get what's coming to them." He growled, swinging his neck closer and glaring at the distance. "I'll fight anyone who dares try to harm you, Pokemon or Human."

His tail whipped dangerously, sending a spray of dirt up away from them as it created a small crater in the ground. His red eyes strained as he winced. A wound near his flank becoming sore from the sudden thrash. He relaxed himself again and turned to look at her. "But I know you can protect yourself just fine... but know I will be here... Though you've never had anyone before... I'm here."
