She felt the other's paws on her face, caressing her cheeks, and then came the pain. It was a burning pain, a flash of heat covering her face as blood flowed from the wounds. This pain was different... different then the pain that had been dealt to her by Stirika. That had been a pain of misfortune, of life. This pain was pain of dedication, loyalty, even love. It was a sweet pain, one she found herself almost enjoying simply because of its symbolic meaning. Then it was gone, no longer as important to her as being with Kiuma. As the red lioness spoke, the pain dissolved into the background. It didn't even return when she smiled.
As Kiuma pressed their cheeks together, she rubbed against her, their blood mingling and becoming one with one another. In this way too, this was symbolic... they were family now. Oh, and it made her so happy to finally have a new family after having lost her mother. Kiuma was her sister, maybe not by blood but by a bond they had spent months creating. It was stronger then any bond she had formed in her life, even greater then the bond that she had shared with her mother. Nuksani had provided for her, raised her from the day she was born... but the connection she now had with Kiuma had not been there with her mother. Or maybe she simply did not remember such a bond, it not having been strong enough to stand the passage of time.
She nodded her head, letting the blood fall freely from her cheeks and making no attempt to clean her face from it. "I think that it is quite good enough for today," she smiled, unable to help but agree with Kiuma. She had travelled long and hard to find the lioness, and finding Kiuma was enough to fill her day up with dramatic events. This sharing of blood was enough for her today, and she was willing to just lay down next to Kiuma and sleep off the meal she had just gorged herself on. "Anything else and I may just fall over from exhaustion."

Kiuma laughed, freely, as she turned to settle in the shade of a tree next to the water, the blood drying on her cheeks. She'd clean it later, but for now, it felt right to wear it for a little bit. She couldn't keep the smile from her face, and she was forced to admit that she'd never, ever felt like this before. New feelings were strange for the jaded lioness, and she found herself enjoying the novelty of it.
"We'll get back to traveling tomarrow, so a good rest is in order today. You still need to recover some, and I'm content to stay here for now. No reason to push ourselves past our limits." She sighed contently as she stretched out her red body, letting the heat inside her disipate into the cool of the ground that lay in shade.
It felt to the red lioness as though she were starting out on a new journey, though she had no physical direction to go in. Like her paws were at the start of a game trail she had never explored, her blood humming with the excitement of the hunt and anticipation of what might lie ahead of her. Another smile, this one more fierce than the last, spread over her face as she settled back, laying sphynx-like to watch over her companion as they rested.

Since Kiuma did nothing to remove the drying blood from her cheeks, Baala did nothing either. In silence she followed Kiuma to the shade of the tree, and laying down she settled the lighter weight of her body against Kiuma's. Her head rested lightly against Kiuma's shoulder, her body perfectly relaxed in the presence of the red lioneess. She truly was happy just being here with Kiuma, and it was clear that she'd rather be nowhere else then where she was now. With Kiuma there was a happiness that had previously been undiscovered by Baala. She felt whole when with the other, felt like she had a place in this world, so long as it was at Kiuma's side. Perhaps she did not need a pride to feel completed, or perhaps a pride was simply not for her.
"Thank you for catching the meal for me, and I agree with you that we should rest. I do... need it. I've been walking for so long... I don't really know how long, to be accurate. But I'm still sore," she chuckled softly, shaking her head slightly. Once again she did not both to inhibit her actions. She seemed to relax even more against the red lioness, her icy blue eyes closing. In little time at all she began to drift off into sleep, and not much longer after that she had truly fallen into a deep sleep, her breathing slowly into a long, rythmytic pattern.

Kiuma humphed softly as she felt Baala settled beside her, their sides touching. It was strange... there always used to be space between them, but now that space had disolved, and she was okay with that.
A soft, rumbling purr rolled from her throat as she leaned into the darker lioness. She wasn't tired herself, but she was content to keep watch over Baala as she slept. A soft ear twitched to catch the sound of deep, even breathing, and it brought a smile to her maw. It was an oddly intimate thing to listen to, and she felt herself warming to the sound.
"Sleep well, my dear." She murmured.
