A smile danced in Montgomery's eyes as he watched her take the lead, his eyes meeting hers for a long moment. In that moment he was convinced that a better female had never been born. She was smart, confident, and able to nearly read his mind. That she was also incredibly soft and smelled wonderful was definitely present in his mind too, although he hesitated to admit those to himself as reasons he was attracted to her.
When she vanished into the bushes he nodded with encouragement, her motion was swift and silent, and the perch she chose was in an excellent position, one that afforded him a wide choice of ambush locations, as well as proving her with concealment and a good line of sight down the trail. He continued down the trail for perhaps another fifty meters before sliding into small wash on the side of the trail, his dull-colored sides blending into the moon-shadowed brush around him. He raised his head and nodded at the tree where Kiarra was, knowing that she would be able to spot him just fine, even though he could not make her out in the shadows of the foliage. He was ready.

She had spotted him immediately, smiling in contempment as she relaxed herself on the branch; this could be a long wait. She watched the rushing water; it's sound refracting off of every stone; the moon was full and the night was...wild. She was staring off into his ambushing zone, hoping to catch another glimpse; The way his brown eyes shined put the stars to shame tonight. Something rustled beneath her feet; something was moving in a bush beneath. She quickly took a pouncing position; unsure of what creature was hiding. A strong odor gave it away as a little sunk came bustling through, paying not attention to her what-so-ever. She sat up in the branch for a moment, covering her nose and giggling so that Monty could share in her funny experience. She watched the broken reflection of the moon dancing across the water, wishing she could be by his side to enjoy such beauty, but that had supper to attend to. Never had she had such a satisfying night. She almost didn't hear it...The sound almost escaped her ears; a branch was broken behind her, the skunk skittered off into the undergrowth far ahead. Has he sensed the animal nearing? Immediately she ducked, hugging the branch as she waited patiently for what was to come, one thing was for sure.....She was beginning to loose her nerve.

Montgomery heard the approaching animal as well, and slid a tad deeper into the bush. It sounded to be of moderate size, perhaps a tapir? He took a small chance and raised his head slightly, so that it was still out of sight to the trail but in sight of Kiarra from her elevated hiding place, and flashed a confident smile. If she just waited until it passed under her and pounced down on its back, it was almost sure to panic and run straight down the trail into his waiting claws.
He almost lost his focus for a moment, thinking about Kiarra, she was just so pretty and confident. She smelled good, even! Such a rare and perfect combination... He shook off his off-topic thoughts, forcing his mind back to the hunt. There would be more than enough time to sit with her after they caught dinner. This was certainly more fun than hunting alone!

Kiarra was readying herself for the pounce, mentally making sure she was prepared. Her breathing was slow and even, her nails were ready to deploy at any instant, she was a huntress. The leaves stopped moving. Had is caught her scent? She was down wind…It didn’t make sense, the wind was pulling her scent far down the winding river… She peered over farther, trying to catch a glimpse, a hint to what she should do! She could barely contain herself. The rustling leaves began once more,…When out ran a large boar. He was quite impressive, reasonably large with tusks that curled back to his snout, She stared at the over grown teeth, the tusks, and a jolt of fear danced down her spine. She looked at the underneath of her paw, a large scare masking its surface; her past haunted her till this day. She cringed at the thought of this beastly creature gashing her with his tusk, puncturing her tender body with his weapons. She was hesitant. She watched it beneath her branch, mouthing the ground for the left over fruit that monkeys had mauled and discarded. Her foot slipped, making the pig ‘oink’ in surprise. He knew something was around…But what? He was uneasy now, lifting his head every few moments for any sign of danger. When he neared the water and began to drink, she slowly began her descent. ‘This is for you Monty… ‘ She thought softly, injecting artificial confidence in her mind. Her claws gripped the bark tightly as she the stalk, the pig standing about 15 meters from her left.

Wow, what a prize! Of all things to see in the jungle, he had not expected a full-grown boar. Montgomery hugged the ground, barely even breathing, his hind legs coiled like springs under him, ready to drive him out of cover and onto the prey as soon as it approached. The boar looked slightly nervous, but not quite enough to give up the fruit and water that was conveniently at hand.
He briefly toyed with the idea of trying to slip in closer to back up Kiarra if the boar decided not to run, but quickly discarded the idea. If he closed in too much, he would just frighten their night's meal away for no purpose, and he was entirely confident that Kiarra was smart enough to just let it go if it was too much for her, that was the wise thing to do. There was always another prey animal.
With that decided, he held his position, watching closely down the trail in both directions, careful not to become tunnel-visioned on his target and miss something else important.

She had placed herself well, the boar lay between her and the water, Monty was positioned to her right. She began to stalk up, 'herding' the creature towards Monty...Hopefully. Her body was low, her head was dipped as she crawled to line-herself up perfectly. Now, she would try to flush him away by rushing towards Monty. She waited, what if he tried to face whatever was in the bushes? Were swine that dumb? She closed her eyes, a flashback of a screaming pig and terrified cub tugged at her nerves once more. 'It's now or Never...' She told herself as she ran through the undergrowth, shaking branches and leaves as she let a soft growl escape her lips she was caught up in the moment. The rushing branches and crashing sounds sent the pig alert and scared; directly towards her partner in crime. She paused to watch him run towards the jungle, then ran after it to assist Monty with the Kill. IF he had been successful..

Montgomery heard Kiarra's snarling growl, and the frightened squeal of the boar, and launched himself out of the underbrush at the exact moment the pig came running by, it's attention focused on the death it saw approaching from behind. He landed squarely on its side, his claws tearing into its soft belly while his teeth locked on the back of its neck in a crushing grip. The surprise was instant and total, the prey never had a chance.
Montgomery held his grip until the pig stopped thrashing, then let go and stepped back from the kill. He could not wait for Kiarra to see this, she had done perfectly, and now they had a wonderful meal to share. He licked at the blood on his paws absently, wanting Kiarra to have first choice of the prey.

The thundering cries ahead made her heart lunge, what if something happened to Monty? She raced into the bushes, the scent of pig blood filling her nostrils, her senses tingled; the excitement was at it's peak. When she finally found Monty, she ran to his side, greeting him with all the excitement and enthusiasm as she would her own father; she thought so highly of Monty...He brought out the best in her. "Did you see that? I ALMOST gave it away. But I didn't! And I ALMOST didn't go through with it...I had a little incident when I was younger....but I wanted to try anyway!" She was speaking so quickly, the words overflowing from her mouth. She looked over at the dying boar, paralyzed by the perfect bite to the neck; he was a master at this...No struggle, no eternal fight...As quickly as it had started, It was over... "Montgomery..." She began, It sounded so formal, "Thank you so much for this opportunity. My hearts simply racing!" Her eyes were wild. She froze for a moment, Lost in his presence...She locked her eyes in his, slowly walking to his side without breaking contact. Her body went numb as she neared him, edging closer until she stood directly in front of him in a relaxed pose.
"I know not if you have another..." She began, stunned by her own words, "...I Just..." She wanted to say more, but decided to save it for another time. She pulled back her emotions, settling for a smile "..I..Dont understand what you do to me.." A spot of blood stained his silver face, she looked at him once more before nuzzling his cheek with a kiss, cleaning him up.

Montgomery's smile was wide enough to make his face look like it was about to fall off, he was so proud of Kiarra. For her first night hunt, this was a real prize, and with a new strategy, too. "You did just perfectly, Kiarra, I'm so proud! That was a very fine attack, if you had pounced at the last moment instead of chasing him, there is a very good chance you could have taken it all by yourself without my help at all." He rubbed the side of his body down hers, purring aloud. "You're wonderful, Kiarra, I've never met a female like you before. You are smart, strong, and cunning, and you are incredibly beautiful as well."
He stopped speaking, trying not to sound like a star-struck kitten, but he really did not have much say in the matter, his mouth had taken off on its own. "Well, we have this fine meal here thanks to teamwork and a little luck, it would be a shame to let it go to waste." He licked the side of her face and nudged her toward the boar, giving her first choice of the kill.

Her heart soared at the word 'beautiful', That’s the easiest way to describe it. She was lost for words, yet her silence spoke louder; she was peaceful and happy. When he teased her cheek with a few kisses, she stared at the prized meal. She had forgotten how hungry the hunt had made her, that’s the kind of effect he had on her. “I Could Never have taken’ it down though…” She mentioned as she neared the blood drenched pig, “It was far too large. Besides, I’m a little chicken when it comes to boars…” She looked at him with a quirky smile, waiting for him to take his place beside her; they were a team and should eat like one. The smell itself made her mouth water. the fresh beast was still a little warm. One thing she hated about eating a ‘large’ meal, was how quick one could lose their head inside, only pulling it out to have a red bloody mask. Oh well, she was sure Monty wouldn’t mind….If anything, she would get him to clean her up a little, and of course return the factor; the though made her grin. She had chosen the back leg, licking splattered blood and dirt from the hide; she hated getting sand in the teeth. She bit down with her canines, crushing bone as the skin began to tare. Revealing think muscles underneath. It was delicious.

"I think you underestimate yourself, Kiarra. I know you could if you wanted to, you're good enough for it." He purred, entirely happy. This night was turning out far better than he had dared hope. He padded up to the kill beside her, rubbing his side on hers as he selected the front shoulder for his first bite, pulling off a chunk of meat and savoring the taste before gulping it down and selecting his next bite. He turned his head slightly, just far enough to see Kiarra out of the corner of his eye, and was happy to see her enjoying herself. She was so gorgeous and wild, he just could not get over it.

The crunching sounds of shattering bone and tearing flesh was kept quietly to their little corner, careful not to evoke unwanted attention. A hunt that seemed to take minutes had, in reality, been hours. The meal they had shared in peace had been the most enjoyable in a long while, simply because of his companionship. She rose from the meal and walked past Monty, carefully stepping over his tail. She lay underneath a few large leaves, finding comfort in the leaf-cocoon. She watched Monty silently as she licked her paws, rubbed her face and repeated, she dared not look like a fool in front of him. She was completely at ease, had the world by the tail; watching him against the diamond sky. She examined his pattern, noting how lovely his large spots were and, silently wishing she had some too. She lowered her heard, resting them on her extended front paws as her tail quietly lifted then dropped, over and over. She hadn't quite thought of him leaving yet. She was lost in thought, unable to understand why, for some reason, she couldn't picture herself ever going a day without knowing Monty....Yet she had been alone for so long. And now, she couldn't quite picture not having him around? It was mind-rattling to her, how a single individual could have such an effect. Her eyes watched him.. Dreaming. Slowly letting herself give-in to everything around her. She had never been so at ease; when you live a hectic life, peace is a addiction. She couldn’t help but feel safe and secure, untouchable. Something she hadn’t felt since she had been a tiny cub, A purr escaped her lips as she quickly drifted off into a light nap, the slightest sound making her ear twitch.

Montgomery savored his meal slowly, taking the chance to do some quiet thinking while his mouth was too busy to interrupt him. He kept glancing over at Kiarra out of the corner of his eye, though, he could not really help it. The night seemed to be passing so quickly!
He finished eating and licked as much of the stain from his muzzle as he could, looking around and spotting Kiarra napping in the leaves. He spent a long moment admiring her, so peaceful and relaxed, her beautiful shaded fur blending into the leaves, then slowly walked over beside her. He lowered himself into the leaves beside her, and gently began licking the little speckles of blood from her face, rubbing up against her side and purring quietly, trying not to wake her.

Her whiskers twitched a few times, stirring her in her sleep. As her eyes began to flutter open, she was met by Montys sweet face tidying up her own. She began to purr softly, unwilling to be fully awaken; the dream was far too good...Though it hadn't been a dream, everything was real; it was that little thought that danced a smile on her face and finally motivated her to awake. "I'm sure I've made a mess of myself..." She said softly, every muscle in her body tensing for a moment as she half-heartedly stretched, pawing at the ground. She rolled to her side, half under Monty's arm, staring up into his face silhouetted against the dark sky and stars. Her front paw half folded on her chest as she lay there, looking up at him. A moment of silence, far from uncomfortable, passed between them. She giggled for a moment, noticing a large red spot of blood from beneath his chin. She rose slightly and began to wash away the last of the evidence from his throat, returning his favor.

He purred softly as well, his rough tongue carefully cleaning and straightening her fine fur. She was so beautiful, he thought, just laying here so peacefully. He smiled and licked her face again, getting a little spot he had missed before.
When she woke, he stopped licking and just snuggled up against her, feeling her warm side through their fur, smiling happily. "You're still beautiful, mess or not, and it just gives me a reason to lick you." He laughed and smiled wider, lifting his chin to let her lick underneath, still purring gently.
