Did the doctor just call him "sir"?
More mentally shruddered at the change over Lorioth's expression. He wasn't sure if anything he said was offensive in anyways, but somehow the doctor took offence, and looked to be struck and hurt by it. The young man frowned. His face looked calm, but there was a visible expression of concern and regret in it.
"Doctor." He leaned forward, pressing his fingers gently against Lorioth's hand. His single eye searched to meet Lorioth's gaze, and eventually set on it with the most sincere feeling. "I'm sorry. I apologize for being rude. And sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I didn't mean it, whatever you took it as harmful to your feelings. You..." More paused, bit his lips, and continued with the most serious voice, "You are my savior, and harming you is the very last thing I'd want to do."

Still staring at his lap in clear embarrassment for his slip of tongue, Lorioth did not notice More’s change in expression. Keeping one’s composure was definitely harder than it sounded, and he made a mental note to find out how it was done.
At the sound of his title, the doctor’s bowed head lifted slightly, a strand of light blond hair falling softly over one eye. Something brushed lightly against his fingers, before settling there with a gentle gesture. Lorioth gave a start and as he looked up, emerald met sapphire, connected through the distance by the two gazes that met halfway over the empty space. This time More’s eyes had a softer edge to them, and it seemed almost on the border of tenderness.
“Uhh…no, not at all! I wasn’t uncomfortable, and my feelings took no damage whatsoever,” the flustered doctor responded, “really, it’s true!”
But even the babbling teacher was silenced by the next wave of words that drifted from More. Lorioth’s eyes opened wide, his lips slightly parting, but his vocal chords simply refused to function—wouldn’t function for him. Unconsciously, the doctor’s fingers slowly curled around that of his charge’s, drawing strength through the warmth that flowed from More’s fingertips to that of his own.
“I—” he squeaked, “no harm done at all!” Attempting to bely his stupefied state of being, Lorioth tried to adopt a more formal front in his words, not knowing that squeezing the life out of More’s fingers (if that was possible) probably wasn’t helping, “I mean, um…the last thing I would want to do is not living up to your kind words, sir.”
Oops…there was that slip of the tongue again. Coloring profusely, the doctor once again looked away with mortification.

The young man tried the hardest he could to contain the calm expression, but eventually met with failure. He stared at Lorioth, eyes wide with amusement, and mouth opening, stopping half-way as if not able to decide whether to laugh or to gawk. He stayed like so for a few seconds, then burst into laughter, his clear voice echoed in the empty gym.
"I'm sorry doctor. " Still laughing, More shook his head, trying to calm himself down. "forgive me for laughing, but you...you amuse me so, Dr. Manneth." He looked up at Lorioth, not bothering to hide his amused expresion. "There's no need to be formal, doctor. And do feel free to express your own feelings. It's better that way." He paused, and mused over the doctor's expression and flushing face. "And sir is really not necessary, doctor...I am a minor, after all."
More did not mention the fact that Lorioth was perhaps squeezing his fingers perhaps a little too hard. It wasn't enough to hurt the young man, but it did make him feel a little awkward. To change the subject More coughed slightly, seizing the laughter.
"Well doctor, if there's anything you need to ask about my condition, I'm here to supply the answer."

Silence ensued for what seemed like a stifling moment of eternity, and then the pure and lilting sound of laugher cut through the room like a scythe. Lorioth jolted upright in his chair, looking at More in amazement as an endless fountain of laughter bubbled up and rippled across the gym’s boundaries. It was his turn to gawk at the young man, unsure whether the suitable response was to be outraged at the fact that his charge seemed to be laughing at him or to give in to his awkward attempt formality and allow himself to be amused alongside More.
His childish side finally gave in, and he couldn’t help but let his tension flow out of his entity through a demurely pronounced chuckle.
“Ahh…well as long as my being an object of amusement to you is strictly a good thing, I give you license to laugh at me whenever you want,” Lorioth smiled good-naturedly, “and you can call me Lorioth if we are moving past the stages of formality. "Doctor" and "Dr. Manneth" make me sound old, don’t you think?”
He chose to omit the embarrassing fact that he had called More “sir” twice—it wasn’t in his best interest to imitate a tomato.
Suddenly, his gaze trailed down his arm and wandered to where his slender fingers were gripping More’s with such an intensity that the doctor’s knuckles shone a ghostly white as they protruded in blunt, jutted shapes. Surreptitiously, he loosened his stranglehold on the poor boy’s fingers, but did not entirely release them—that would be too obvious a gesture. Swallowing hard, Lorioth fought to keep control of his ever flaming cheeks, and to bring his thoughts away from speculating how he got to holding More’s hand, the doctor stated as calmly as he could, “I don’t want to press on matters that may not concern me, More. Therefore…if there is anything that you wish to inform me about your condition, I will always be here to hear it.”

"But...Doctor is a title of respect. And however old you are I'm younger than you?" More chuckled and almost had an urge to pat Lorioth on the head. The poor doctor was simply too amusing for him.
More stood up in order to prevent himself from doing anymore disrespectful acts to the poor doctor, and scratched his head. "May or may not concern you, what does that mean?" He peered down at Lorioth, blue eye full of curiosity. "I doubt any of my issues would have any personal effects on you, doctor. You've seen how I am well adapted to temperature changes, and my physical capacity. Other than that..." More paused, hand on his chin as if he was deep in thought.
"I seem to have panic reactions at the mentioning of anything related to...sea-creatures." More recalled his sudden headache when Greg mentioned the word "siren". Perhaps he was over-generalizing a little, but More didn't feel like telling Lorioth the exact word, partly because he wasn't sure if other words would have an effect on him as well.

Lorioth couldn’t help but smile in an amused manner in reaction to More’s statement, but it was just that most of the time it seemed to him as if the student was the elder of the pair. “Perhaps,” the doctor agreed with the nod of his head, watching as his charge shifted to a standing position, “though it still sounds a tad formal to me.”
The doctor felt a slight warm course through him at the next question, the memory of More’s authoritative tone refusing to fade away.
Something I haven’t thought of…but it should be none of your concern…
With a wry smile, Lorioth responded slowly as if he were carefully choosing his words in his mind before making them heard, “Well, I wouldn’t want to accidentally pry into matters that you do not wish me to have knowledge of…”
He fell silent, calmly listening to what else More had to say, absorbing the information into his mind and unhurriedly mulling over it. “Sea creatures, most interesting…I would assume that they act as a stimulus for inducing a part of your memory that still remains locked away somewhere in the recesses of your mind. But sea creatures…if I may inquire, is it only animals such as say, dolphins that influence the ‘panic reactions’ or do beings of the sea such as…?” the doctor paused, as he tried to think of what he meant by sea creatures that were not strictly classified as what one might to refer to as an “animal.” Certainly, they all fell under the kingdom of Anamalia unless sea creatures referred to plants such as algae or simple protists…
“Mermaids!” he suddenly blurted out, as it was the first being of water that his mind stumbled upon that wasn’t strictly “animal.”

More was about to smile and respond when Lorioth said the word. THE WORD. He fell back to where he was sitting without noticing it himself, cringing as a similar reaction was triggered. It was less severe than the last time, perhaps it was because More was more prepared. Nonetheless, the young man could feel his heart racing faster than from workouts, and he had no doubt that the doctor could see the reaction from his facial expression---it wasn't painful, but it was a shocked expression that looked numb, with his eye unfocused and teeth grinding into themselves.
And just as fast as it came it went away like the last time. His heart settled down, and More was able to concentrate on what was happening in front of him again.
"Right...mermaids." More whispered to himself. Strange, when he said it himself nothing seemed to happen. "things like that, yes."

The doctor was still silently going over everything he knew about sea creatures in his mind, not noticing More’s astounded expression until the student nearly crashed back down into a sitting position besides him. Lorioth’s green eyes widened in alarm as his young charge seemed to gaze unseeingly into the distance while subconsciously gritting his teeth. It was the tensest that the doctor had ever seen the student, and that alone gave him a legitimate reason to be frightened. But how, how could he have been stupid enough to utter the name of not one, but two sea creatures right after More had warned him that they could induce a reaction of panic in him?
Lorioth was just about to jump to his feet and try to help his charge in any possible way he could, when the unnatural expression on More’s face suddenly subsided. The doctor tensed when the student once again uttered the “m” word, fearing the return of another reaction…but this time when it was spoken, the word appeared to have lost purchase and More remained unfazed. The doctor stayed stoically silent, allowing the young man to recollect himself before softly uttering, “I’m sorry. That was terribly foolish of me.” A familiar blush spread over his cheeks, putting a hint color onto what would have been a ghostly pale face otherwise.
Really, just what could he have been thinking when he spoke those two words? Though it was interesting that More had only replied to his mentioning of “mermaid…”

More sighed and looked up at Lorioth, giving him a weak smile. "It's fine doctor. I guess nothing's better than a live demonstration. But at least you see now...this strange reaction I have. It seems that a part of my brain knows about it, but it's blocking the other parts from seeing through. Almost as if..." More paused, not sure whether he should use the word in front of a doctor. "as if someone's placed a lock on it."
The young man immediately chuckled and shook his head. "That sounded like a funny idea, placing a lock in my head. Don't tell me science is advanced enough to do such things?"

Seeing More’s weak smile didn’t make Lorioth feel any better. It seemed like a painfully sharp difference from the energetic and invincible youth that the young man was a few minutes ago. Shaking his head sadly, adjusting his sitting position to one that allowed him more comfort.
“That still doesn’t justify my rash actions…” he sighed, his face still containing a downcast expression. The teacher noted the slight pause in More’s sentence, and he wondered if he should press his young charge for more details, but ultimately decided against it. He should allow the student privacy, and furthermore, Lorioth had no desire to accidentally tread on forbidden territory.
“Placing a lock on one’s memories…no, I do not believe that it is possible…unless of course, you count the art of hypnosis. But I’m no expert in that field.”
His sudden feeling of weariness brought to his attention how dark it had gotten outside. How long had he kept More in this gym? A faint blush lined the doctor’s cheeks, as he profusely apologized, “I’m really sorry for keeping you in here so long. I didn’t notice—the time has simply just flown by!”

More smiled and nodded to himself. Of course, Lorioth's answer was something he'd have expected. He was, nonetheless, somewhat relieved by Lorioth's confirmation. At least there wasn't someone who intentionally messed up his brain, More figured. He didn't know about hypnosis, and he didn't really care to ask Lorioth what it was as it wasn't in his best interest to deny the relieved feeling that he'd just gotten. Instead he jumped the topic over and looked up at Lorioth, a stronger smile on his face.
"That's okay, I usually don't leave here until later---but I apologize for keeping you so long here, doctor."
More assumed the meek doctor had somewhere to go. He stood up, "I won't keep you here. So if you need to go..."

The doctor stayed silent as More quietly thought to himself, content to let the other have his moment of inner counsel. When the young man spoke once again, the topic of his strange affliction had been discarded, and the teacher let it fall. He wasn’t going to press for anything else tonight, unless it was in More’s best interests to himself. Besides, the student would bring it up again when he felt it was proper. Seeing the wide smile on his charge’s face gave the professor an odd feeling of peace and serenity, but at his words…
Lorioth could easily describe himself as being flustered, as tendrils of pink crossed his cheeks. He hadn’t meant to seem as if he was subtly hinting that he had somewhere to go! He racked his brain to replay the sequence of words that he had used in his last sentence, searching for any blunders he might have made to accidentally convey the wrong message across.
“Ah, no!” the professor blurted out, before blushing even more and lowering his voice, “I-I didn’t mean it that way. I simply thought I might have been keeping you cooped up in this room for too long, and…I don’t have anywhere better to go at the moment, unless I were to retire to bed this early, and though it may be late—it still seems too early for that. Unless you have somewhere to go…I really don’t mind staying here. Really!”

The young man blinked, and chuckled at Lorioth's words. The poor doctor was contradicting himself! But it was all reasonable considering what kind of person the doctor was, and...More decided he wasn't going to comment on it. Instead, he stared at Lorioth, smiling while trying to think of something to convience the poor doctor that he did not mean anything that could possibly cause him to blush and be embarrassed.
A moment of silence, then More realized that perhaps he was staring and being quiet for too long (Lorioth might have even worse thoughts if he stayed like this!). Quickly swining his head to look away, he gave a short laughter, then turned back to the doctor. His expression, although still pleasant, showed a slight hint of embarrassment and perhaps, mischief.
"Well." He started, not able to conceal his unfading grin, "If you really have nothing to do, doctor, and since I won't be going back to my dorm until about an hour later, you are welcome to stay here and just..." The young man paused, the thought of two men sitting in a huge room all by themselves and having nothing better to do than staring at each other amused him. He shook his head, "you are welcome to stay here and chat, if you want."

The doctor was unsettled by the sudden lack of conversation in the room; the oppressive silence seemed so stifling, and Lorioth was slightly confused as to why More continued to smile at him without saying anything. He felt his cheeks burning with warmth and dreaded to think of what color they were now. Though the teacher was still perplexed, he managed to coax a smile onto his face. His charge suddenly laughed and turned away, making Lorioth to be more hopelessly confused than ever.
Was it something I said…? What did I say?
“Ahh…” he muttered, covering the his blazing cheeks with his palms, just as More turned back to look at him again, still smiling though there seemed to be something different about his expression that the teacher just couldn’t put his finger on. Still blushing furiously, though most of the vibrant crimson hues were obscured by Lorioth’s hands, the doctor stammered, “O-oh, of course! That is if you um, want me to stay!”
More trailed off and shook his head, and the doctor hastily replied to what he perceived as a ‘no, I don’t want you to stay,’ not hearing the young man’s next sentence as he quickly barreled on, “Oh, that’s alright too! So I’ll just leave you to your exercising then!” In his haste to respect what he thought were his young charge’s wishes, the doctor jumped willingly into standing position, and promptly tripped over one of the bench’s sides, sending him sprawling to the floor.
“…Ow,” winced Lorioth as he fought to stave the pain by keeping a brave front in front of More, “my ankle…”

More looked up at Lorioth as he tried to stand up, perplexed by the doctor's action. He had heard Lorioth's words, and to him these words seemed to be on a completely different topic than that he was trying to convey. Obviously, either the doctor did not hear him right or he really just wanted to get away from here, and either way seemed possible at this point. More was about to reassure the poor doctor that he was more than welcome to stay, but was cut off by Lorioth tripping and falling on the floor. The young man gasped, and quickly got up to help the doctor to get up.
More frowned when Lorioth nearly whimpered in pain. "Doctor? Is your ankle alright?"
It was a rhetorical question, since anyone could easily see that the poor doctor was in pain, and he was having trouble standing back up on his feet. Without further saying the young man bent down and reached for Lorioth's feet, gently pressing one or the other to find the spot that was hurt, his face showed a visible expression of concern.
"Please do sit back down doctor, if you are in pain, you shouldn't try to stand like this. Now, where's the spot that's hurting you the most...?"
