I completely agree!!!
Wild Arms 4 is the worst game in the series.
They changed practically everything.
In the first three Wild Arms games, the main characters were tough, rugged wanderers of the wasteland.
But in Wild Arms 4, they're a bunch of wimpy kids.
The older games characters, had character, 4's didn't.
4 also lost most of the western feel that the first games had.
When I play 4, I feel like I'm playing a game based on the 70's and 80's.
The only improvement I saw in 4, was the fact that it had cut scenes and voices.
The battle system was cool, but because of fact that they screwed up the way characters level up, you can't enjoy a fight.
After putting several hours into leveling up, you can still lose to an early on opponent.
Why?
Because the battle system is setup in an advantage/disadvantage style.
Sometimes when you start a battle, the opponent will have the advantage, and will seriously damage the players before you have the opportunity to fight.
And when I said that they screwed up the way leveling up works.
I mean that when you go up 10 levels, the stats are as though you went 3.

..which is why grinding doesn't help much at all. =|
It was my first entry into the Wild Arms series so it wasn't exactly the best. I did like a bit of the characterization... but the designs... were bland.. to me. They stood out on their own, but not that much. Even the game that gave me a terrible impression at first (Growlanser V: heritage of war) is definitely far more better than Wild Arms IV which is a bit surprising 'cause the graphics in Wild Arms surpasses the ones Wild Arms decided to test on (it was their first venture in 3-D).

Anyway, I actually kind of liked the battle system: it wasn't difficult to use and easy to get through (not to mention somewhat unique in it's own tactical way).

Wild Arms IV decided to try to use a new "flavor", I guess, but the ideas executed would have been a bit better. I mean, I know its one of those "passing of innocence" and it's certainly one of the many favorable plotlines, but this one is a bit poor since it went from strong beliefs to confusion. Also, it made "adults" very easy to read and appear... grand to the "children" which is not the case for most gamers.

Ok.. I'm doing with ranting. XD;

Since I compared Wild Arms IV to my first game to the growlanser series, it was slow at first, but then I grasped the game system and so far, I like it. It doesn't really contain puzzles (they're oh so easy) and the story is a bit cliche, but the execution is rather nice and fun even (despite drawbacks).

Actually, Wild Arms 3 was the first to introduce 3D in the series.
Then they made Wild Arms: Alter Code F, a remake of the first game.
The older games also had a, North, South, East, West, system.
Allowing you to rotate the camera.
Wild Arms 4 dropped this.
Wild Arms 3 and Alter Code F had a shootout battle system.
Wild Arms 4 dropped this.
The earlier games had strong tough western characters, Wild Arms 4 didn't.
The earlier games followed a basic principle, Wild Arms 4 reversed it.
In Wild Arms 4, they try to say that good and evil are based on how well someone preforms their actions.
If that were the case, then a serial killer is a bad person for not killing enough people.
The types of things they tried to teach in Wild Arms 4, goes against commonsense and ethics.
And you would have never seen one of the characters from one of the original games make a comment like that, unless they were an evil enemy.
All in all, I like the new battle system, but if they hadn't messed up the leveling up system, it would have worked great.
But when you consider the fact that they have changed so much of the series, can you really call it Wild Arms? ^_^

Oh, I forgot about how Wild Arms 3 introduced 3-D to the series. XD
I'm sorry about that!

Regardless of the changes, it's still considered as Wild Arms. It's like saying Final Fantasy is not one because of the drastic changes in VII, VIII (especially) or even XII (only it adhered to the Tactics and Tactics Advance division of FF instead). Same for Tales of series... but they're more closer still so it's not a really good comparison.

Thank you for your scope on Wild Arms 3! I should go find it and buy it since it's really inexpensive now (under $10 used).

I've been wondering.. what are your thoughts on Wild Arms V (f you have any)? I don't have it yet and well, won't plan to get it since I'm saving up money for other matters (and saving in general).

First, regarding WA3:
It has got to be the most customizable game I have ever played.
Not only can you change the main characters names, but most of the NPC characters as well.
You know how a lot of RPG's will have a picture for the main characters?
Everyone in WA3 has one, including the most insignificant of NPC's
If you play WA3, you'll see exactly what I mean by changes. ^_^
The battle system is not the greatest, but it's still a lot of fun, and follows the western theme much better then that of the new one.

Regarding WA5:
I haven't played WA5 yet.
But I've only seen bad reviews, and from what I've read, it's pretty terrible.

Regarding WA2:
Haven't played it, but I've seen enough of it to understand that it's awesome. ^_^

Thank you for your input! Somehow, I cannot ascertain whether WA3 is still present in the store or not, but I'll look for it anyhow. Last time I saw it, it had everything (book, box, cover) so whoever picked it up got lucky. I hope there is another one there~

I glimpsed through WA5 (trailer; opening) and it wasn't that appealing (to me) and seemed to follow a similar formula/setup that WA4 decided to venture. Story is not similar, of course, but the way it executed itself is kind of similar-looking. I was rather disappointed that they opted for the 3-D graphics for the opening rather than a nice animated sequence (reminds me highly of how Tales of the Tempest came out... and... well... it was a flop as well).

I agree, anime openings are always better then 3d.
Wild Arms 3 has around 6 openings, and the audio will change on occasion.

Probably Newman, I've made more characters of that race then the other three.
As for Beasts, I haven't really used them enough, and CASTs are cool.
I haven't even used Human yet, aside from Ethan (main character).

I think Neudaiz has the best designed field, Moatoob has the best city, and Parum has the most enjoyable missions.
