Koorie stood at the docks, waiting for a boat to come and pick her up. She'd been told to look for a motorboat, which would take her to an off shore fishing vassal, which would take her to Cronus. The wind whipped her slightly curled blue locks of hair around as she allowed her ruby eyes to gaze to the horizon. Somewhere out there would be her new job, and her new life would follow, hopefully one full of record deals and world wide tours.
The sound of a motor grew louder as the boat pulled into the dock, and Koorie looked emotionlessly to the man driving it. She didn't like men, and the only reason she put up with the two men in her band were because she knew that it raised her chances in getting that recording deal. Nodding her head in recognition to the man, she began handing him her bags as she mentally checked off their contents; suite case with clothes and toiletrees, keyboard, electric guitar, flute, violin... everything was accounted for. She placed her hand over the book bag she was carrying to feel for the music sheets and her note books, and then boarded the boat.
She rode in complete silence, wondering what her summer was going to be like. She didn't have any family that would worry about her, hell, she was the outcast of the family after the incident. The rest of the ride was a blur to Koorie, as her mind focused around song lyrics, thinking of the next piece of music she would compose. Her attention was brought back when the captain approached her to tell her that they were close. Once again, she nodded to him, keeping silent. She did NOT like men, and this guy was seedy in her mind, and she had best not have any contact with him what so ever. She watched as the speck in the horizon grew into an island, and wondered who would be waiting to escort her.

Leaning against the all-too-familiar Jeep, Hayden sighed with arms crossed as he checked his watch and realized it'd been about two minutes since he'd last done so. Stupid boats were running late again, and being the lab's errand boy, he was sitting out here looking stupid and feeling worse as usual.
Cursing his luck continuously for the last twenty minutes or so under his breath, he had to fight to resist the urge to send his fist into the nearest tree. Or building. Or convenient dock worker. Okay, no...that was a bad idea. Some of those guys actually knew how to fight. And they were all pretty big. Inanimate objects were a better option.
Wait, why was he thinking about this? Wow...how long had he been standing out here again? Must be bordering on bored to death. That was the only explanation.
Hayden turned and stared out over the horizon again, the sunlight reflecting off the waves bright enough to make his eyes water. Blinking furiously in an attempt to see, he finally gave up and rubbed the tears from his eyes. Well, he supposed the boat would get here when it got here, whether he was keeping an eye on the water or not.

Koorie felt the wind pick up again as they came closer to shore, and she could make out the docks from where she was standing at the edge of the port side, leaning against the rail. She closed her eyes, breathing in the sea breeze and relaxing a bit. Of course, that was soon cut short when the captain blared the boat's horn to announce that it was pulling into the dock.
"Bloody hell!" She swore a few more times, covering her ears and shutting her eyes tightly in pain. Her ears were ringing after the loud sound blast, and she prayed there wouldn't be permanent damage. Singing would be difficult if she couldn't even hear herself.
Shooting one more glare at the Captain, she turned back towards watching the docks pull in closer. As the ship finally began the entire docking process, she noticed that there was a vehicle parked with a figure inside of it. Looking harder at the figure, she frowned. 'Great, more men....'she thought bitterly to herself, crossing her arms.

Even on shore, the horn was near deafening. The relative silence that had enveloped the area only seconds earlier only added to the dramatic contrast. Hayden winced and rubbed his ears, thinking again about how much he hated this place. And that was without all the unrelated incidents he associated with the docks.
Glancing up at the docking ship, he thought he spied a figure at the rail. Someone who didn't seem to work on the ship at least. Was that who he was supposed to meet here? All he knew was that it was a young woman named "Koorie." It'd be nice if they'd give him a picture or description or something some time...
Ah well, back to the usual method. Calling out names and seeing if anyone answered. Stepping away from the Jeep, the uniformed guard made his way over to the gangplank, looking for anyone leaving the ship.
"Koorie? Koorie...Shizuku?" he called hesitantly, feeling like a fool.

Koorie eyed the man at the docks coldly, and the second that she was allowed to exit the ship, she'd loaded as much of her belongings as she could and leaving the ship as soon as she could. She felt like she would reek of fish for days.
She looked at the man, and her suspicions that she would have to work with him were confirmed when he called her by full name. "I'm assuming you're here to take me to the institutions." Blunt, straight to the point, and avoiding any other unnecessary contact; just how Koorie preferred it.
Without waiting for any response from him, she shoved her guitar case, Keyboard, and suite case into his arms. "Drop them and I castrate you." Her voice was neutral, but she had an air around her that confirmed that she would keep to her word.

Apparently, the attitude didn't match the looks. While she seemed to be quite the beauty and nice on the eyes...well...yeah, so much for personality. Then again, how many times had he been judged on first impressions?
Not that he usually included threats of permanent bodily harm in his initial introductions.
Fortunately, he had decent reflexes (probably thanks to his work here at CRONUS, not that he would readily admit that) and easily caught the cases she practically threw at him. Raising an eyebrow, he muttered, "Welcome to CRONUS..." Sighing, he turned and loaded the various cases into the back of the Jeep, using a couple tarp straps to secure everything for the drive.
What a little ray of sunshine we have here...
"Is that everything then?" he asked, matching her neutrality with his own, all while mentally telling that snarky voice in the back of his mind to shut up. "If so, hop in and buckle up. I'll drive you up to the main lab."

Koorie climbed into the passenger's seat, buckling herself in and crossing her legs, trying herself to get somewhat comfortable. "That's all I'll need for the summer...." As far as she was concerned, that was as long as she was going to be here. This was, after all, a summer time job.
She leaned against the window, keeping from having to make eye contact to the man in the driver's seat. She held her book bag close to her, not wanting to let go of her work so easily; her instruments were replaceable, her songs would take months to rewrite.

Hayden sighed from the back of the Jeep, discreetly rolling his eyes and muttering, "...you're welcome." He closed the back, taking the time to compose himself again before walking around and climbing in the driver's seat.
"I apologize in advance for the state of the roads around here. I'll drive as carefully as I can, but you'll still want to hang on. It's going to be a bit of a rough ride." He buckled up and cranked the engine, still ignoring the voice that had told him to forgo the warning to her; she didn't deserve it. Within moments, they were off for the main lab.
It wasn't as if he planned to talk to her anymore on this trip anyway. His job was just to pick her up and deliver her to the lab. Perhaps this assignment wouldn't be as awful as most were.
It terrified the poor guard that he even considered thinking that way.

Koorie heard his warning and frowned a bit. Maybe this guy wasn't as bad as she though... and maybe pigs will fly. "Thanks for the concern, but don't apologize for events that are not in your control." She never looked at him while she spoke.
The road was more than a 'little rough', and she soon came to appreciate his warning. Gripping tightly to the door handle, she kept her face forward, feeling her hair whipped about by the air rushing by them. Having dressed casually in a pair of jeans, a tank top, and her stiletto heels, she was decently comfortable with the heat on the island. Every once in a while, her hair flicked over her left shoulder, revealing a very large scar.
After about 15 minutes driving with Hayden, she finally broke the silence. "How much longer do we have? Lets face it, neither of us are happy with the company we're with, the soon we part the better, correct?"

Hell yes...
It took everything Hayden had not to agree out loud. As much as he had hated his previous encounters with new arrivals to the island, never had he had anyone quite like this ice queen to deal with. At least the others tended not to hate him until later...
"We're almost there," he answered her first question only, keeping his tone neutral. "If you look through the break in the trees at this next bend in the road, you should be able to see the main lab building through the canopy. We'll be there in a matter of minutes."
Patience, Rutherford...keep it together...you'll be out of this one soon enough.
He kept his eyes on the road, navigating the twisting curves carefully and keeping his attention away from the female practically radiating hostility from the passenger's seat. Within minutes, he was pulling up behind the lab building to park.

Koorie's lips turned up in an ever slight half-smirk half-smile. She could practically feel his distaste of her radiating off of him, and wondered if she could push it farther. Her thoughts of implementing torture were cute short when they hit a large bump and her head went smashing into the roof.
"Son of a-." She started spewing out swears, letting go of the door handle to hold her head in pain. Bad idea. Without the anchor of the door handle, she was tossed about very unceremoniously, jerked around backwards, forwards, and to the sides.

Without a second thought, Hayden reached out to steady the Jeep's passenger, slowing to a crawl through the bumpy terrain. Looks like the Diglett and Dugtrio were at it again. Even with all of CRONUS' power, they couldn't manage to control some of the local Pokemon on the island. Sort of amusing, in a way.
As the vehicle slowed, Hayden dared a glance sideways towards Koorie, his hand on her shoulder in an attempt to steady her jostling. Only then did he notice the scar, now partially hidden by his hand. Though he frowned, he said nothing. How had he missed that before? Probably because her hair had been covering it previously. "Hey, are you alright?" He sighed, shaking his head. "I swear these so-called roads get worse every day..." Attention back to Koorie, he put his petty thoughts about her earlier attitude aside. "I really am sorry about that. You okay?" His frown of concern was genuine, as he knew all too well how painful this Jeep could be when it turned on you.

Koorie stiffened at his touch and pulled her shoulder from his hand. "I'm fine." She hastily said, looking coldly at Hayden for a brief moment, then back out at the road again.
"Don't apologize for things that aren't your fault.... it's annoying...." He had looked concerned for her, but she didn't want to deal with that betrayal again. Even 8 years after the incident, it still had left a permanent impression about true human nature, and she had that scar to reminder of it.

Hayden hesitated a moment, his hand hanging awkwardly in mid-air before he withdrew it slowly. "...'Scuse me," he muttered, turning back to the road, mildly irked. "I'd apologize for that too, except I'd probably get snapped at again."
He sighed, mentally kicking himself for slipping. He needed to keep a closer eye on his mouth or it'd get him in serious trouble one of these days. He was silent for a bit, preparing to park, then decided hell with it. He was going to be nice and allow her some privacy...but if she wasn't going to be nice, then why should he?
"Hey," he asked, eyes still forward. "If you don't mind my asking...where did a young lady like you get such a scar?" He glanced over for just second. "If that's overstepping my boundaries, and since this IS something I'm responsible for, I'm sorry." Of course, he wasn't...not really. For once, he was just saying it out of habit.

Koorie said nothing for a bit, looking out the window. He'd asked about her scar. 'Does he not read the paper or watch the news... or even socialize for that matter?'
"It's a bullet wound from when my brother shot me... It was in all the newspapers and all over the media when it happened 8 years ago, I'm surprised my name didn't give it away. I'm the only one who lived." She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, waiting to see the false sympathy that everyone always gave her when they found out who she was.
