The smile on his maw was faint, green eyes focused on the small lioness. There were of course other bears, species dwelling on other continents, just as there were related creatures to all those of the African continent at other corners of the earth, though for some those relations had also faded. A small consolation to the fact that a creature had fallen, though relations still existed, the fact remained that the African bear would never walk the earth again.
"There are, they walk other corners of the earth far from this land. However the bear of our land will not return."
It was perhaps an overwhelming concept to the mortals of the savanah, that their world was but a small part of the vast earth, that there were creatures they had never seen or met, whose path they would never cross. But to the immortal god, the world was a vast place, reaching far beyond the borders of what could be seen, heard, or understood. Though perhaps the world had seemed to grow smaller to an ancient being, or at least more distant. The world today was a far cry from the ancient world of one great continent.

So there was another world. For a moment, Kimaji felt her heart skip a beat. It was.. odd. To imagine a world different from this place, what would it be like? Would they have trees, water, grass? Would they have birds? It couldn't be that different, right? Bears were there. Bears had been here.
"At least their not gone-gone? " She forced a smile, perking her ears up at Corellon. "I mean.. Our bears are gone. But there are others, at least? Maybe their not the same.. But there are bears! " She said cheerfully, flicking her tail. "And you can fly! so you can see them sometime. " She purred slightly. If Corellon liked bears, at least he could visit them?

"True, however the needless lose of any creature is a terrible tragedy, and though there are others, they are not the same."
Unfortunately poachers were not limited to Africa, and it was not only the African bear that had been pushed to extinction. Those bears of other continents were also in danger of disappearing, taken as trophies or for their prized pelts, or worse.
"Let us hope that remaining bears will fulfill their path on this earth."
He smiled, the kind warmth he had shown at their greeting returning to his eyes. The small lioness seemed gentle, and though perhaps naive, full of hope. Perhaps if enough shared that trait, the world would be preserved and it would be the poachers to fade into extinction.

"The poaches don't even eat them? " She wrinkled her nose slightly. Needless, thats what is sounded like. "Thats dumb. " She frowned. Why kill something if you weren't going to eat it? Not that she regretted killing for food, it was natural for a lion to kill to eat. But did these poaches just kill for.. killing?
However, now Corellon mentioned a path. What was a path? On this earth? Corellon was.. strange. Yet it was kind-of neat. She certainly was leaning alot today. " Next time you see, them, say I wish them luck! " She nodded.

His head shook, a flicker of bitterness flashing in his eyes. That was the worst of it. Not only did the poachers hunt creatures to extinction, but they simply left those who fell to rot, whether where they fell or in a trophy case.
All creatures must hunt, some must fall for all to survive. Without the predators, the prey would overrun the earth destroying it's resources, if the predator population grew too large, then the prey would vanish and they'd all starve. But there was a difference between hunter and poacher. The hunter took only what he needed and in falling the prey brought nourishment to the earth. But the poacher took only because he wanted, out of greed and 'sport'.
"They do not. Their motivation is greed rather than hunger."
He had turned to look toward the horizon again as if it spoke to him, perhaps it did. When he looked to the lioness again, the smile had returned to his maw.
"I shall. Though perhaps there is a way for you to see them, or at least an image of one."
There were paintings left by the native tribes, and though no surviving humans had seen the bears and though the land had been abandoned, the images remained.

"Thats.. Its dumb. " She said in frustration. Kill for.. killing! Greed! That was just so wrong. It was unfair for those poor bears. And if the poachers went for anything else, it was unfair for the others too! And it was unfair for who wanted to see bears. She'd like to see bears. It'd be neat. However, now, Corellon brought up this.. might be a possibility?
"Really? " She tilted her head, and stood up, blue eyes gazing at Corellon curiously. "Where? "

"It is, as it is foolish."
All of nature existed in a balance, life and death, predator and prey, herbivore and carnivore. Without that balance nature become unstable and would eventually collapse. Each creature was vital to that balance, each extinction a devastating loss not only that species, but to all of nature as well. If the trend of extinction continued, eventually the earth itself would fall as would all those who lived on it, poacher, hunter, mortal, and god.
"There are images left behind in the stone, paintings from the time bears still existed, though they are some distance from here."

"Really? "
She blinked once more, perking her ears and tilting her head slightly. Some distance from here. She reminded herself of what Cor had just said. She usually didn't like going much further than where she was about now, but.. it was bears he was talking about!
"So what're we waiting for? "

"I could show you if you wish. However, is there no one who would wonder where you had gone?"
He had not exaggerated about the distance. Reaching the lands where the paintings resided would require a trek to the far north, to the mountains past the desert, or to the far east. Even flying, such a trek was more than a simple day trip, and though he had met this lioness alone, that did not mean she had no family nearby, perhaps something she had forgotten in her excitement

"Maybe Swaii, "
She said quietly, musing. Swaii was her father, the only family she had. He'd probably wonder about her, but since she'd grown up, he'd been alot more loose on whatever she did, seeing as he no longer had to worry about her being.. 'defenseless'. It actually wasn't so uncommon for her to leave for a few days occasionally, when he went on his hunting expeditions.
"I think he'll be fine with it, " She nodded, looking back at Corellon. "I'll just tell him you're normal, though. hen I get back. He wouldn't believe me if I said I met a god-- never did. Not with Momo, or Sei or Mtima. " She grinned meekly, Swaii was such a worry wort. Besides, she wasn't going to say he was a mortal, she'd just leave out Corellon was a god!

The god nodded, a small smile on his maw. Many creatures did not understand the concept of extinction, did not realize that there were creatures who had lived before them. There was something heartening about an innocent so interested in a fallen creature.
"Alright, we'll have to fly though."
Wings unfolded, spreading to their full reach like a great owl soaring into it's nightly hunt. He waited for her to climb onto his back, then they would fly to the north, to the lands were bears once lived, where some signs still remained of their existence.
