"Alright, we'll read and eat the pie first, like promised." She replied to her son, handing him the second plate. The book was set on the bench next to where she was sitting moments ago. Lowering her body again to sit next to her Raithill, Shiero shifted the large text onto her lap and flipped it open to the first page. There was no title on the spine, the front cover or the first page. Witha raised brow to the familiar book, a few pages were flipped with a slim finger.
Parting her lips as she recognized the flawless script, Raine bit her bottem lip. She promised her son she would read it with him, so she would...

Raithill leaned over excitedly to look at the page, not noticing his mother's expression. "Ooooh, it's written in the ancient text." he said, shifting in his seat so that he was right next to his mom. He took his fork with his right hand and stabbed it into the pie without looking, and almost missed his mouth as he raised the fork to eat the peice of pie. He didn't notice that he'd smeared a bit of pie on his cheek, so enraptured was he by the mysterious book written in an ancient language almost no one spoke anymore.

Angling her head towards her son, Raine couldn't help but let a soft giggle pass her lips. She would let Raithill continue to eat then clean him up afterward when they went inside in hunt of the rose.. He just seemed to amazed by the text, she didn't bother disturb him.
Raine knew little Ancient Demonic, simply from Durithill's translations. He always made things simple for her that way. However, she began to translate it th ebest she could.
"'We've discovered a new world. At first we thought it was one of the elemental planes, but it seems to have balanced amounts of elements, like Earth. The inhabitants appear to be peaceful people. The greeted us with a beautiful song, a hymn of somesorts. It seems like they've never seen humans before, so they're as curious about us as we are about them. As we've stayed here for a while, we've noticed that that song seems to be a favorite of theirs. I can here them singing it again...'" Shiero paused for a minute , scanning over the hymn written below. The moment she began reading she recognized what the book was and where it came from... It was ironic how her son found it and was curious with the old novel...

Raithill ate another piece of pie. He glanced up at his mom when she paused. "What are the el-em-ent-al planes?" he asked, trying to pronouce 'elemental' correctly. "Are they like the field of flowers?" He had a breif mental image of several fields of flowers, each floating a few feet above the other. He stared up at her, his eyes wide with curiousity and the small smear of pie still on his cheek. "And what's the 'him'? Can you sing it, mommy? Is it pretty?" he asked, assualting Raine with a rapid fire of questions.

The angel looked down at Raithill, taking in each question at a time with a wide smile.
"Sort of." She replied to her son,
"They're different.. Fields, not all with flowers though." She said, as if trying to find a simple way of explaining what the elemental plains really were.
"There's one that's all water and in the middle there's a small island-- that's the Water Realm." Raine finished with the first question of his.
"I'll show them to you someday soon." A small laugh passed her lips as Raine contined through the curtain of questions.
"A 'hymn' is like... A song or a carol. Yes, Raithill, it's very pretty. I'm not sure it would be pretty if I sing it though." She responded with a smile. Sure, she had read the incantation before, but she never really heard it. It was not difficult, for a hymn was like a chant, but it was usually done with many people-- like a choir of angelic voices.
"I can try, but I don't think it'll be very pretty." She warned him again before beginning hymn, laughing a bit in the beginning.
"'Exhausted, without the strength to search, people vanish into the infinite darkness. Could we still have seen if we were there? Could we've seen it if it were little?
If it's so small, I wonder if I can see it even now?
As we live on, we lose a little bit more. Shrouded in falsehoods and lies, we stand frozen to the spot, unable to cry out.
The days pass by and change, without us even realizing how blue the sky really is.
Overcoming that made-up scheme, we live the present, and our rusted hearts begin to beat again...
If we can find the rhythm of time, we can fly once again.
We live our lives wandering to the ends of the earth. Believing, now I begin my journey with you, in search of the light.
We live our lives wandering to the ends of the earth. Closing off the way back, we walk on for eternity.
We live our lives standing frozen to the spot, unable to cry out, for eternity...'"

Raithill listened patiently and nodded every now and then. "Ok." he said when Raine said she'd take him some day. He'd only ever seen the field of flowers, and it seemed like it'd be a lot easier to play pirate if he actually had water. "That was very pretty." Raithill said when his mom finished singing. "You can sing well. It was a little sad though. What happens next?" he asked, turning back to the book.

"Thank you." She replied to her son. She was almost certain he was only being polite because, well, she was his mother and she had an interesting story to tell. "'Such a beautiful song... It sounds like something the angels would have sung if they still visited Earth. But they've been gone so long, people are starting to worry. It's like when animals flee a forest because there's going to be a fire, yet there's no visable signs. People on Earth are starting to wonder if there's going to be a fire... Let's hope there's not...' " Shiero paused as the entry was finished, it was then she turned to her son and began to explain.
"This book is similar to a journal, see.." A long finger carefully traced the old text as she ran her fingertip along the paper beneath the date.. May first, 2020.

"A journal?" Raithill repeated in wonder as he looked at the date. "Wow, that's really old!" he said, scooting a bit closer and eating more of his pie. "Who wrote it? Is he still alive? Do humans live as long as us?" he asked with another barrage of questions.

With yet another smile forming on her lips from the bombardment of questions, Raine shook her head in reply to his question.
"No, the man who wrote is no longer alive, he passed away many years ago... I'm not sure who he was. They don't live nearly as long life as we do. Thier average life is about seventy years." She replied, waiting for the astonishment in her son's eyes. Of course that would be surprising to him, for, he has alreay outlived numerous humans and he was still very young.
"Would you like to hear more? Or save some for bed?"

Raithill's eyes did, in fact, light up with astonishment. "Only seventy?!" he asked as if he could hardly believe it. "How come they die so young?" He finished his pie, then looked out over the field in response to Raine's question. The sun was begining to set and darkness was begining to spread. Raithill yawned and stretched his arms out, balling his hands in the process. "Some more." he said, even though he was obviously tired and needed rest.

"Come, let's go inside." Closing the book and placing it on the bench, Raine stood up and picked her son up into her arms before picking the text up afterward.
"We'll read some inside, okay sweetie?" Raine promised the boy in a soft tone. She would come back out to retrieve the plates to be washed once Raithill was sound asleep in bed... And perhaps tonight she would come outside, back into the field of flowers and sit and talk aloud, like she had years ago..

"Ok." Raithill said, allowing his mother to pick him up. He really didn't mind it that much, and he was tired. He yawned again and snuggled in his mom's arms, her warmth comforting him. He began drifting off in his mother's arms, his eyes drooping. "Don't forget to talk to the statue-man..." he said in a sleepy voice before his eyes closed.

Raine carried her son into the cottage, her bare feet moving across the floor almost soundlessly. However, she continued to talk to her slowly drifting son, as if to ease him to sleep. Moving up the wooden staircase into an attic-like room, two beds were set in the cozy area with only the necessities for a living space. Pulling the sheets down, Raine lowered the body of her son into the bed before pulling them back over him, tucking him in snugly.
"I won't... Don't worry." She responded in a whisper to his small, sleeping body. Sweeping his bangs from his forehead with her hand gently, Shiero kissed him goodnight before placing the large next on the night stand beside him and quietly inching away. She had a few chores to do before she went to bed herself.
Gathering the dishes inside the cottage into the sink, Raine filled it with water. Her attitute and enthusiasm immediatly disapated into nearly nothing. Dipping her hands into the soapy water, it wasn't until she completed the mass in the sink that she remembered there were a set of plates and forks outside from the pie.
Drying her hands, Raine stepped outside. The sun was now completely set, night's curtain had closed. Stars brightly littered the dark sky and an every-brightening moon sat just behind the trees, shining it's reflected light brilliantly on the meadow of flowers. Leaving the dishes for a moment, Shiero quietly crept over to the statue, allowing her fingers to trace over the hand, arm and abdomen. Dropping her arm, Raine angled her head to look up at the smiling stone figure.
"I'm sorry..." She eventually uttered,
"I never knew... That you could hear me..."

The world remained quiet as it prepared to rest. The wind gusted slightly, but that was the only noise. Suddenly a flicker of movement appeared in the corner of Raine's eye. Nothing appeared to be there, however, as if it were just a trick of the wind and moonlight. But wait, something was there. A small, black shape was making its way noislessly through the flowers towards Raine and the statue, it's form so small it was hard to tell what it was. As if got closer, it appeared to be a mouse with burning red eyes. It stopped and looked up at Raine for a moment before climbing up the statue to rest on Durithill's shoulder.

She didn't move once, for the burning scarlet eyes were far too familiar for her to forget. As what she knew to be Shadow, Shiero simply watched as the small formed creature shfted through the flowers and up onto the stone statue. With a forced smile, Shiero's eys drifted from the shoulder of Durithill to his face. Her eyes remaining there for some time, examining every feature she had already etched into her mind, she soon collapsed at the feet of the man, her body leaning against the cold stone.
"You know..." She mumbled quietly, beginning to speak.
"Your son is such a sweetheart... I'm glad you at least got to speak with him.." She admitted almost shyly.
"I think it's due time he knows who you are... Even if--" Shiero's voice grew shaky almost instantly as if she was replaying the end event in her mind... Raithill needed to know.
"...You'll come back... You always have..."
