Nanaki is Red XIII's name, but i like Nanaki. it does have a certain appeal to it. but who cares what his name is when you cant help but feel awe when you see his final limit break! it is awesome!

@ Fluffy - Same thing that happens if you name him Red XIII. The lines are said and the name is subbed in. Its just silly to see them be like, "Nanaki? Who's Nanaki?" "Nanaki is Nanaki!"
@ Dude9333 - Move the first letter to the end, then try and tell Darth Vader his name is girly.

i dont know i just like redXII it just sounds cooler to me than nanaki it may be just a color and a number to some but simple observations are how nicknames are created and most people like nicknames
i had some weird names that i changed my party to
cloud:avalon
barret:warnk
tifa:jasmine
aeiris:amy
redXII:marcus(only one time though then i stuck with his cool name redXII)
yuffie:shi-ten
vinccent:diaku
cid:lance
kait sith:traitor ( rofl )

Soadshuyin -- LMAO! I never noticed that xD Nanaki = Anakin ;p
I always called Barret, "Mr. J". Because there already is a Mr. T, and BArret is japanese. So it's Mr. J, foo
I named Nanaki some weird name O.o' I forgot. I think it was Mufasa from the lion king...

Nanaki, which means something along the lines of "No Name" if Im not mistaken, was the original name for Red XIII, but Red was always better. He played a small role, but his abilities in battle served a very strong addition to my team, along with Cloud and Tifa.

The character most commonly referred as Red XIII is the one who is actually named Nanaki.

I actually tend to think he had a bigger role in the story than most fans give him credit for...since he is the son of Seto, whom everybody in Cosmo Canyon looked up to as a great warrior, he carries the honor AND the burden of being his successor and having people depend on him in the same way. Even more so after Bugenhagen's passing...
Which would mean that the observatory formerly in Bugen's possession falls to Nanaki...which include the four large materia within. Since the Canyon is home to such great power after that point, maybe it could possibly be one of the factors in Red's significantly extended lifespan as shown after the ending credits...
(Sorry for the slight spoiler for those of you who haven't beaten it...but c'mon folks. You've had over 10 years to beat the game and see for yourself.)
