Okay,
1) I agree that Ryuk should have sounded scarier, but for the most part, his voice is the best it's going to get. I think it fits. . .
2) Raito's voice just sucks. Have you heard his evil laughter? Hell no. He sounds like he's wheezing for air or something. His voice could have been slightly older.
3) L's voice did NOT sound creepy. L's voice actually fits him for one. I've been hearing random people outside of the guild complain about how his voice sounds too old or something so I'm going to rant INSIDE this guild. HE IS IN HIS TWENTIES. FOR GOD'S SAKE! HIS VOICE IS FREAKING PERFECT! It fits him and sounds AMAZING.
4) I'm going to shoot Misa's English VA because I JUST DON'T LIKE HER. The character, I mean. And the VA takes the fall because Misa 'doesn't die'. . . but I DO like the rumor of her committing suicide, so I go along with that. Don't discourage me.

Ryuk sounded like a child molester..... and Raito it was Ichigo from bleach's voice*growls* not that i don't like bleach but damn..... just don't mix the two! ....Righto's voice actor wasn't the same as Ichigo's. Raito's voice actor was Brad Swaile, while Ichigo is played by Johnny Yong Bosch. confused XD Now that you mention it, Ryuk did kinda sound like a child molester! XD
Now, I'm curious. Because he was a HOT mofo. . . <3
Anywayz... I taped all the episodes and got around to finally watching all 6 that have been aired so far in a row. It was a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be... the only voice that really bugged me was Sayu's and well... she doesn't matter.
However, they really screwed up the pronunciations of "Yagami" and "Matsuda" god... I hate it when they completely butcher pronunciations. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect perfect pronunciation cuz that'd be creepy but ugh... ><
And people didn't like L's voice? Weird... the computer one was quite different from what I was used to but it was alright... I love the slight accent on his normal voice as well! ^^

When the first dubbed episode came on, I was on the edge of my bed waiting to here Light's voice, and then when it came on...
I threw popcorn at the t.v.
And then my friend said that Ryuk's voice sounded like Light's voice but with an 'errrr' to it. I agreed.
But L's voice, ohhhhh, I could listen to that voice all freaking day.
I kind of dont want to watch all of the dubbed episodes, becsue ive already seen death note twice in japnese (once with my friend, and once by myself) and ive seen everyone die, and ive cried now twice for almost every death, i may not watch episode 35, but i kind of want to, because i want to hear matts voice. and since he only talks in one episode (the episode he freken dies in...), it will be the only time i get to hear it. it better be sexy if im gonna sit and watch him die for the third time.

L's voice is done by some uber Italian guy with an amazing semi-accent going for him... I'm getting the first 2 DVDs for Christmas! I'm so excited! Though I'll probably watch the subs more than the dubs on them...

I was actually surprised that the voices didn't sound terrible. Most of the voices fit the characters and that made me super happy! ^^I guess it's just 4kids that is retarded about choosing decent voice actors. -.-;
(Of course NO ONE can compare to Mamoru Miyano's incredible voice acting talents... but the voices could've been worse.)
@paradoxal_gemini: I dunno, I thought she might have, but the anime didn't make it clear. Dunno about the manga though.
