05/12/05 - Private Wish
Males weren't meant to dig dens. Thayne concluded this to himself after two and a half hours of digging his first den on his own. Reflecting on it, he decided it wasn't bad. For a male's first attempt.
He rolled in the thick grass covering the area to rid himself of loose dirt collected on his ruff and head from digging madly. He lay there after a good roll, staring out across the landscape. The sea glittered under the sun, rolling in white froth against the purile shore. It was a delightfully peaceful scene.
Thayne tore off a mouthful of grass and chewed on it thoughtfully. He never imagined that he would end up at the ocean -- a place he'd never heard of as a pup -- much less as the beta of a pack. Beta... to Hige and Loki's alpha. He could think of no better leaders to be under. Not only did the two alphas care more for their packmembers than any others Thayne could think of meeting or hearing about, but their devotion to each other was just as powerful.
"Should I get s' lucky t' be like them," he mused aloud. The thought of a mate made him happy and depressed all the same... and then he found himself shocked. Mate? When did he start thinking about mates? He shook his head with a snort, hoping to clear the thoughts from his mind. What else? The pack itself seemed to be holding up well, despite its small size. Tsume didn't seem inclined to leave Hige and Loki anytime soon; in fact, the other male had been looking for his own densite, last Thayne heard. Balan probably wasn't going anywhere either, although the creamy wolf had Thayne concerned at times. That fit of melancholy during the storm put Thayne's eye on Hige's other "brother." Granted, Thayne still wanted to get to know Balan. He seemed like a kind soul, if a bit turned around. All the more reason to try and befriend Balan more. Tatiana had taken to Hige and Loki like parents, something that both amused Thayne and solidified Thayne's belief in the pair's leadership abilities. Maybe they'd have pups of their own soon... make the pack grow.
Maybe other wolves would go wandering south from the neutral lands and find the pack waiting for a new member or two. A female or two would be nice. One he could find to talk to, to befriend, maybe even to love...
"Dammit," he cursed softly.
