Safi visibly stiffened when she heard him explain that they were intruding on someone else's home. Well, that usually meant trouble, didn't it? It wasn't really a moral issue to her, stealing other people's things, but what would happen if they caught scent of them thieving and tore after them? As much as she could, Safi always tried to avoid trouble. Her eyes widened a little at the thought, her gaze falling on the small hole by her and then back on Pam in question.
And again, unspoken as he went flailing as if being attacked. The female jumped back in surprise with a yip, eyes even wider than before and her breathing quickened. Had they been spotted and found out? But there was nothing else around from what she could see.
"... just ... a spider?" She asked him, heart still pounding and eyes still like saucers as he tried to regain his cool. "Maybe.... thats a sign... we shouldn't... be here?"

(( Major delay oxo ))
"Oh come on, Safi, it's food, all the herds are sleeping but they have their stupid look outs. If we tried to hunt, we'll probably get hurt without our numbers. Besides, why pass up a good, free meal?" he quizzed her. Jackals by nature were scavenger that picked up what they could find rotten or fresh, stolen or theirs, they'd eat it. However, Pam saw it as a lion trait of sorts. He looked back into the hole and picked up a piece, it was small. "If you pass this up, you're gonna be extremely hungry when you wake up so why not just take a bite or two? Finders keepers."
He took it into his maw and swallowed it whole before sitting back. Pam did not really understand why it was so hard to grasp the idea of taking food. It was survival of the fittest, but he could understand when someone is being nice and generous. However, Safi seemed constantly afraid as if he was going to kill her or something. On the off chance she was worried, he would try to comfort her.
"Besides, no one's gonna be stupid enough to attack two lions unless they were lions themselves. And by the looks of this hole, it can't be."

[haha, yeah same here @_@]
He did have a good point... again, Safi realized as she looked upon the small hole of the den. She watched in silence as he picked out another small piece of meat for himself and then turned her gaze away for a moment. As they had been standing there besides the den for as long as they had, and who know how long Pam was there to begin with, no one had come back to claim it. It seemed like fair game, and better to get to it now before the original owner did come back. Better not to waste anymore time, this was usually her way of thinking anyways. Scavenge before found.
The white jackal let out a sigh and hesitantly moved forward, slowly one foot then another until her head found itself inside the hole. Her jaws opened, grabbing at any pieces of meat they could grab onto. With success, she managed a meager piece after a few tugs and rips from something larger that had managed to get itself stuffed in there. She pulled herself out, on the way already munching on the somewhat fresh meat she had pilfered.
The jackal found her ears perking up, eyes creased with confusion once again at his mention of their species. Again with the lion thing. And her mouth was full, not allowing her to question him about it ... again.

Pam laid down beside the burrow, gnawing on a bone as he looked up at the sky. The scent of meat was alluring, soon other scavenger of the night will be around them soon enough. He had no fear of what it could be because they could just fight it off, but he was afraid that a possible scavenger would be a hyena. He looked over at the white female again, watching her eat. She was definitely hungry it seems so he would not intervene again.
"So Safi, you've been wanderin' huh? By the looks of how you are eating, you haven't been hunting much have you? Or you were not too successful," he smirked. "Eat all you want, I don't think we have to worry about anyone for a while."
The dark male got up and took a few pieces, biting into a chunk of flesh with a protruding bone, offering the other to the female. He could not help but feel sorry for the poor girl... she needed to eat a little more.
"If you want, we could go hunting some time..."

Safi frowned slightly, covering up her discomfort and desire for a topic change through her slow pace of chewing and consuming the portion of meat she had taken. The female jackal wasn't too keen about talking about herself, much like talking in general and other creatures. She was reserved and a wallflower and liked to keep it that way... but this male seemed persistant about some things and the white female was sure he'd press the matter or run after her if she decided to run. Sure, she was unsure if this was really true, not being one to really know how jackals acted and didn't read others well ... but she could assume.
"... um, yes." She began, shallowing a piece. "I... travel a lot, have been... for a long time." Her red gaze remained diverted from his own, not looking at him at all.. just the ground below as she slowly continued to eat. "I don't normally hunt ... no, just get.. what I can. Never ... really found a need to ... since it is just myself..."
At the mention of more food, she just shook her head. "It's fine..." She wasn't a big eater, and the more food in her would only slow her down, she had learned that early on and she could just find something else later if needed. Then her eyes picked up, surprised a little at his proposal that followed - the bone and the invitation to hunt later. Safi looks at the bone in question and then finally at the darker male and sighed. The thing just sat there as she stared between the two, unsure if she should take it and the invitation. They were both kind, but she wasn't sure if she should accept. Her cheeks grew hot once more over her unsure reaction.
" ..... um, I suppose." She replied, still leaving the bone untouched and now kicking herself. It would have been easier to decline, wouldn't it have? Who knew if she would ever see him again.

It was obvious that this one was surely a shy female. Never quite met a shy lioness before, his mother was very playful and his father very caring. His sisters weren't like this, at the very least, not to this degree. She seemed as if she just wanted to disappear right before his very eyes. If the ground was white then she could have done so by closing her eyes.
"So you have been to many different places then, that's good to know. I hardly have left the Pride Lands myself, but my father left me out here to find a mate and doesn't intend to allow me back," He casually shrugged as if it was nothing before he reached in and retrieved a smaller slice of meat. The male thought about it for a moment, a lioness who could not hunt well or one that hardly did. To only hunt enough to meet end's meet was rather... strange to hear. He often gorge himself so he did not have to eat later and just sleep it off. For whatever reason, his metabolism was faster than the average lion [Duh] and he had to eat often.
"Hunting is important, if you keep that up, what will you do when you are hungry? What would you do if you became a mother or pregnant? You need to hunt for the cubs you may be carrying/caring for. I mean, if I was the father, I would do it but, the mother has to eat too to produce the milk for the cubs," he paused. "At least that is what my sister told me when she had her litter..." His eyes were shifty. No one told him that, he just learned it really. Knew it. Perhaps he should have talked about such a subject and quickly digressed.
"So where did you come from, Safi?"

The white jackal found her already hot and flushed cheeks growing deeper as the topic of mates and motherhood came up. She had personally never thought about having children, but really.. when you avoided others these ideas never came up in one's mind. The only thought was of survival and getting through the day as she looked on the landscapes she came across, not on finding someone to settle down with or having to fend for someone besides herself. Safi gulped down the piece of meat suddenly, eyes a little large and now definitely avoiding him over this choice of topic.
"... i-it's not something that ... I've thought about ......" She replied in a more quiet voice when she found it again, "pups.... I mean...." Still with diverted gaze. It seemed important with his family anyways, so she still had felt inclined to reply and it would maybe get the topic off of herself - and the last question untouched. "So ... how... has your search gone...?" Came the awkward question. Though, she had a feeling she did at least know the answer to this one, seeing as he was still scavenging around.

"Are you serious, Safi? I can never stop my parents from nagging me about them, I mean, everyday they question me on my returns after a long absence from our den. My father hopes that I roved into a female for a fling or something," Pam shrugged. He wished his father knew that he was with his friends, Leji and Ezekiel whenever he left. Or either one of them. He was not interested in mating-in fact, the thoughts never crossed his mind until he was sexual mature. He growled a bit, "It is because of that I am out here and not at home with my family. I am missing my brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces grow up!"
With a reluctant sigh, he turned his gaze to the pure white female.
"Are you serious? With someone as cute as you alone and untaken? I thought you were betrothed to someone when I first saw you, a bit shocked to hear it really..." however, her life was of none of his concern unless she wished it to. The jackal smirked.
"None. Whenever I spoke to a lioness, she scoffed, laughed, attacked me, or just left. Or any combination of that. So my searches have been fruitless really. In fact, you are the only lioness I found that is like me."

There was an obvious reason why Pam's other attempts would have failed as miserably as they did, Safi would have voiced it if she were brave enough but seeing as how his logic was a bit skewed, he probably wouldn't have believed her anyways. She had actually tried, for once, to speak up about his knowledge of themselves..... but that hadn't gone too well, so the female kept her trap shut and her gaze down on the ground. Well, for other reasons as well, like from the continued embarrassment that the male brought upon her. He just had to compliment her, didn't he. Maybe this would be a good time to run.
"... perhaps, you should ... just lie... to go back?" She offered, not really sure if that would help the situation. Safi hadn't seen her parents or family in who knows how long, having left in pursuit of adventure and travel.. and solitude. For all she knew, they might have tried pushing some of these ideas on her, or even have her set up with a male in one of the nearby packs...

"I wouldn't want to lie to my parents, I love them far too much to do. I could always bring a female to come with me and tell them that, but then they would expect cubs from us and that might not fit well with her," he shrugged and rolled up to his paws. With a smile he looked at her again, she did not seem to be in the talking mood. With the constant breaks in her words he could only imagine that he was making her feel uncomfortable. Or rather, she was just uncomfortable being alone and not meeting others.
Perhaps a little more time spent with her wouldn't be too much harm, right?
"Come on, lets go find a place to sleep for the night. We'll get only colder if we slept out in the open and we could provide warmth for one another," he smirked and motioned his head to come with him. He meant no harm to her.

Safi nodded lowly, the two of them seemed to obviously have different relationships with their parents. She had left them, was happy to do so while he strived to return to his family. Lying to them would probably not be the greatest idea after all, but it was the only thing she could have thought of.
Her head shot up at his invitation, eyes grew wide, giving him the sort of look like his head was spinning where it sat or that another one had grown right next; either way, it wasn't the best of responses. He-he wanted her to go with him? Safi hesitated, stayed in her spot and didn't budge as he motioned his head for her to follow.
... he had a point though, and being out in the open where larger creatures could get them - like the one they had stolen food from - wasn't the best of options. But, to go with him was another matter.
"... um ...." She stammered, unsure of what exactly to say, her hind legs finally gaining movement and pulling herself away from him instead of towards. To go or to run, he obviously hadn't given her any indication he would harm her but given this was probably the longest amount of time she'd been in contact with someone else, she wondered if she should push it even further or continue just the same as before.
"perhaps... I shall.. come find you? There are ... some things.. I'd still like.. to see ... before I forget... and.. it gets too dark..." The white jackal half-lied while still backing up, still unsure if she would even keep her word. He was a kind enough fellow, and having no other company for so long was ... well, nice. But, she had been alone for so long, it was still hard to get used to.
"I'll... try and find you...." She repeated slowly and in a low tone, turning from where she was to make her get away. The debate still running through her mind to actually return.

Pam's ears lowered a little, yet another rejection by a female lioness and it seemed it was just one of many to follow. His eyes dropped a bit. With a few steps he came to her side and nuzzled her shoulder.
"A-are you sure?" he questioned her a bit. He did not want to be alone for the while, as much as he wanted to find a mate, being alone is something he was not used to. He was so reliant on his family to have someone to be with and when he did have a den, it was so close to his parents' that he could just go to them. He was never quite alone ever. If he wasn't with his parents, he was with his friend Leji or Ezekiel if he was able to find him.
With a sigh he nudged her, "If you won't come with me, could I... come with you to see these 'some things'?" Though it defeated the purpose, he thought it was at least a shot to have some sort of company.
With a smirk, "It'll save you from finding me again."

Safi's brain almost up and left when he nudged her, the physical contact hadn't made her jump like it would have but instead just made everything stop. It took a moment for things to reboot and her ears twitched in response. A battle over company, one who wasn't used to it and the other who thrived on it, who wasn't used to being alone.
".... I guess ... if you.. really want to." Again, he did make sense and she wouldn't have to feel back for lying to him. She awkwardly took a few steps forward, slowly turning her head towards him in a sad little attempt to invite him along. "There... were some.. neat rocks I saw ... and... maybe there .. is shelter nearby too ..." A small sheepish smile forced its way out, to be civil and polite, as she took another few steps.

Pam made sure he gave her a good few paces before him to give her space. She seemed the sort of female who needed that right now. Perhaps he should not have forced his company upon her... but then again, she could have denied him her company. She was entitled to it...
"Thank you, Safi," With a wag of his tail, he took a pace so his head was just by her thigh. Her shyness was rather a cute feature about her. If anything, it was only drawing him closer to her as a friend. With this neat rocks she wanted to see, he was curious where this night would lead to. Further rejection or a start of a new friendship.
Tomorrow will tell.
