And yet, it's beautiful enough and well-made enough that you could probably wear it for a wedding. Correct me if I'm wrong concerning Beachy Amish, but over here in the States, most Amish women marry in a dress and then that becomes their Sunday dress in the future. Is it the same over there in Ireland?

yes, indeed.for all amish women regardless to what country, the wedding dress is worn on sundays and is worn when buried.

I'm going to use words that are inoffensive to most people, but I don't know if they will be offensive to you when they're being said for education and elucidation, rather than being said specifically to swear or insult. But because there is that danger, I'm putting the text in white. If you feel you won't be upset by reading them, 'Select' the following text and you'll see it in white.

Gosh and golly are a 'softer' way of saying God.

Dang, darn, durn... these are all 'soft' ways of saying damn.

Heck, as you probably know, is 'soft' for hell.

Gee or geez would be soft for Jesus.

Judas Priest is soft for Jesus Christ.

Zounds is soft for God's wounds, which is a reference to Jesus being nailed to a cross.

Bloody is a direct reference to Jesus's blood from his execution. Ruddy is about a half-step removed from bloody.

Ffrick, frig... these are all very satisfying to say. Frick and frig are derived from a short word that starts with F and refers to intercourse; you can figure it out from there.

Frak is NOT a reference to this word, however. It is a made-up word, first popularized by Battlestar Galactica usage. It MAY be related to the F-word, but it has an equal chance of being related to the word frag, which is short for fragment. If used in this way (and if you see me using the word frak, it means frag), what it really means is "the tiny, but annoying and usually painful, fragments of a hand grenade or other explosive/incendiary device." In other words, if I say frag or frak, it means "this is little stuff, but boy is there a lot of it, and boy is it annoying."

Gorram is another made-up word popularized by a science fiction show (Firefly). It is a 'soft' form of god damn. It's pronounced gore-RAM. I caution against this one, simply because while fewer people know it, it will almost surely be instantly recognizable as an intentional swear word; you can't really claim ignorance of its meaning, if you're using this word.

So far, I haven't found any profane or sacrilegious meanings for drat. Drat seems to be fairly safe when said as "Oh, drat." Drat away! But if you say "Drat you," then it's clearly directed at someone, and that makes it a swear word.

Directing any word at another person seems to turn it into a swear word, such as "Oh, yeah? Well, PENCIL YOU!" or "Get out of my way, you ELBOW!" Even if the word isn't ugly, the sentiment is, so just try to avoid that.
