Obediently, Iggy waved his tail for her but his attention was on Missy yet. "Oh, I dunno," he offered helpfully. "Everything I ate never seemed to bother me. I've never even had a cold. Maybe Chris and I are just really, really tough."

Chris nodded in agreement, getting to all fours. The desk he was under came up off of the ground a bit.
"Chris, get out before you get up, ba--baby," Missy said, tripping over the endearment. "You'll knock it over."
Chris sat down again, then scooted out from under the desk on his bottom.

Wisp scooted out, following him after; she stood up so that she could be little more of a height with him, though he was taller than her even on all fours. She smoothed down her dress and beamed: Halloween was awesome!

Chris looked just as blank as he had with the Robin Hood conversation. But Missy smiled.
"Do you think you could take them? I have to stay in this room, but--"
"If we can't find your mother, I'm sure Miss Missy can fix your pants," Antony said as he showed up in the doorway with a pretty young girl. "Would that work?"

Wisp made an immediate beeline to the girl that Antony had brought in: she was never shy with strangers, and had an attraction to colourful things like a magpie to shine. She put her arms behind her back and sat a few inches from Delilah's foot, making eyes at Missy as though to tell her covertly that new people had come into the room. (She always felt it was her business to inform Missy of things.)
"Gween," she said to Chris.

"I suppose." Delilah's bottom lip still stuck out a bit in a rather fetching little pout. She noticed the little blond girl staring up at her with wide eyes and decided interest. Not reacting with any noticeable change in expression, she did allow her fingers to lace through Antony's a bit tighter as she returned the child's look for a long moment. Finally, she lifted an eyebrow. "Hello." She looked around and noticed Ignacio and Christian, large and dark. Again there was no change in expression. "Hello," she said again.
Ignacio waved, smile brighter than the fluorescent lighting above. "Antony! Delilah! Hey, guys. You found us."

"Oh, what lovely costumes!" Missy said with a wide smile. "Antony, you look just like a little prince! And you are, sweetie?" she asked Delilah as she crossed the room to them.
Chris leaned against her leg as soon as she got close enough, watching the three big kids curiously. He wasn't sure why, but he didn't much like the way his mom had just complimented the blue boy.
"Ah, um--" Antony said, his attention caught by the demonic looking little boy. The tail and skin color weren't a problem, his father had those, but the face kinda bothered him... "Miss Missy, this is Delilah. I'm afraid she ripped her pants in the haunted house. Can you fix them?"
"Oh, you poor thing!" Missy said. "It's a good thing I keep a sewing kit in my purse. Come over to the desk with me and we'll get that fixed right up!"

Wisp, who was totally convinced of Missy's love for her anyway, did not get quite so jealous as Chris did of Missy and Antony. She was still fascinated by Delilah and Delilah's pants. She chanted gween gween gween until she was satisfied with the greenness of it.
"Is fix!" she said. "Fix!" She didn't quite get what it meant, but anyway. "Trick-or-treat," she chanted at the new arrivals, in case they gave them anything.

While Delilah was far too intent on following the pretty older woman, Ignacio patted down his pockets until he found a little lump. He dug around and triumphantly withdrew a somewhat squishy twist of taffy. He crouched, bow and quiver almost toppling him, and held it out to Wisp and Christian. "You'll have to share it, I guess. Sorry. Dad hasn't taken me trick or treating yet."
Delilah hopped up on the desk and offered her knee quietly. She kept her bright eyes fixated on Missy. Finally, she asked, "Are you Antony's mommy? Or Wisp and Christian's mommy?"

"I'm Christian's mommy," Missy said. "But I'm a good friend of Wisp's mommy, too." She pulled out her sewing kit, matching the material with string and starting to sew it up neatly. "And Tyler is a good friend of Antony's father, isn't that right, Antony?"
"Mr. Deakon is the janitor here," Antony said. "He and Father get along very well, so once in a while we go over for dinner." Which was always lacking meat, but he wouldn't mention that.
Chris looked at the candy, then as Wisp, expecting her to know what to do.

Wisp immediately knew what to do: she pulled the taffy into two democratic pieces and handed one to Christian, glowing with the mystical tenet of Sharing! She popped the other piece in her mouth and chewed wildly, giving a big gummed-up taffy grin to all involved.
"Fankoo," she said indistinctly.

"Welcome!" Ignacio beamed at the toddlers and their sharing skills. Then he promptly flopped on the floor and shared the smile up at Antony. "So you took Delilah out to the house thing that your dad set up?" he asked.
Delilah watched Missy work in intent silence. When the thread was knotted, however, the woman was rewarded with the prettiest, sweetest smile the little girl was capable of. She even put in a smidgen of eyelash-fluttering. "Thank you, ma'am," she said quietly.

She was just too adorable! "You're welcome, sweetie!" Missy said. "Would you all like a piece of candy? I've got a special pail for those entering the contest!"
Christian made a face as he chewed... and chewed and chewed and-- it was just so gooey! Soon it was all over his face even as he kept chewing stubbornly.
"Yes," Antony said, making a face. "Which is where she tore her pants," and he had screamed and ran like a little girl. "You should try it."

Wisp was also chewing diligently: it had stuck up her teeth and she was having a little trouble, also quickly getting sticky. "Mmph mmph mmph," she said, trying to chew as hard as she could. It was good, but it was difficult! The candy was beating her. What if her mouth stayed stuck forever? Huge tears welling up in her eyes, she tugged on Ignacio's hand.
