Sukizutsu But it's so weird that their father wants them to get along!Sesshomaru-sama let Rin into his life for one purpose: (manga spoiler: She wanted to help him and he brought her back to life, she just followed him and he let her.) And that's the oly reason, but the thing is, Sesshomaru-sama hates his little brother (Oh gawd, now I'm starting to call him 'little brother') because he inhereited the Tetsiauga, but I don't think thats the only reason. I think its because he is also his half-brother, half-demon. He is not his full brother because of both the women their father fell in love with because they are not realated! 3nodding ...I didn't know I could type this much and not have my fingers get sore! biggrin Why would it be so weird? I think it's perfectly natural for a father who loves both his sons very much to want them to get along. You don't need to think so hard to translate Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's brief blood feud as basically two brothers getting into a fist fight. Personally, it would be even more weird of the Inu no Taishou to just leave them to kill each other. No he didn't not consciously, anyway. The whole reason why he brought Rin back to life was because he initially wanted to test out Tenseiga. In other words, Rin was merely a test subject who grew on Sesshoumaru; just like Jaken. Yes, it's true that Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru are only half brothers, but they still share some of their father's genes, which still makes them related.

i think that sesshomaru doesnt really like inuyasha, but doesnt truly dislike him either.
but seeing as sesshomaru lives in a world where feelings dont really come into play, he might try and avoid inuyasha.
also some of his dislike may come from the fact that inupapa [[as you so lovingly call him]] gave the sword that sesshomaru wanted to inu
and the fact that sesshomaru went into a very big battle [[during the time that inu was pinned to the tree]] and wanted him to help in the battle. [[ see that part were sesshy asks jaken 'where is inuyasha?']]
and took that the fact that inu wasnt there and now mockingly calls him little brother, because he wasnt there as family should be [[in that era of time, and seeing as inuyasha couldnt help that he wasnt there]]

No matter the case, Inuyasha is still blood. Inuyasha still holds Sesshoumaru's respectful father's blood in his body.
And besides that, I think it's more of an Asian thing. (Or basically everywhere but the US xd ) is more respectful towards family and blood ties, no matter the situation.

first of all you have to remember japanese phrases turn english can be confusing to western audiences because we aren't all accustom to japanese traditions and what not. I recall Inuyasha calling Nobunaga "little man" in one episode clearly as a dominant term to let him know he was to be in charge. So in my opinion Sesshomaru calls Inuyasha "little brother" to show his family dominance over Inuyasha to try and make him feel infereor or lesser then him. Usually only men do these kind of language dominant things, i read it in a psycology magazine.

I think that if Sesshomaru really hated Inuyasha he would have killed him years ago when he was still a baby, he wouldn't have waited until he'd grown up and was actually capable of defending himself.
I think it's really more a case of honour, Inuyasha was a cause of shame to Sesshomaru and his mother, not to mention that he's suffered numerous jabs at his ego and pride because of Inuyasha (and Kagome).
I agree with Rikku, the reason he mainly refers to Inuyasha as 'little brother' is a dominence thing. In most japanese families the eldest sibling is usually held in a higher degree by the parents than the younger siblings, so for his father to favour Inuyasha over him would be a pretty big slap in the face.

I think it's a good thing that The Inu no Taisho died at the time of InuYasha's birth. I honestly believe that had he lived, InuYasha would not have been kept alive, or would have been badly mistreated as a sibling. Sibling rivalries have always been around, and in the case of Sesshomaru and InuYasha, the pure-blooded demon would have made mincemeat out of the hanyou. In the end, the swords would still have been handed down as they were. The Inu No Taisho knew what InuYasha's demon-human mixed blood would do to him, and as was made quite clear, he needed something to keep him from becoming something that he clearly was not- a demon with no mind of his own. Tetsaiuga and Tensaiga both had the same duty to their owners, if you think about it- it kept them alive and who they really were. Tetsaiuga kept InyYasha from losing his body and mind to the uncontrollable demonic side and Tensaiga- well- remember the battle with Naraku at the castle? Tensaiga is credited with saving Sesshomaru from being absorbed into Naraku.
Now that I think about it- I wonder if Sesshomaru had been combined, would his superior demonic being actually have taken over Naraku and made him even more powerful? Interesting topic for debate. All the demonic power that Naraku absorbed added to Sesshomaru's natural power- talk about a superior being!!!
(and as much as I hate = really hate= to say this... Naraku was gorgeous- add his good looks to Sesshomaru's and powerful and breath-takingly unbelievably irresistibly and well, no female- demon or human would be able to resist him!!!)

Quote: It's more of an Asian thing to dislike him. Losing face for being a dishonorable blot on the family- Please! I think it's more of a personal issue. Besides, had Sesshoumaru been some kind of other mythological creature in Europe or possibly Africa, I highly doubt his initial thoughts toward Inuyasha would be any different. Quote: I think it's a good thing that The Inu no Taisho died at the time of InuYasha's birth. I honestly believe that had he lived, InuYasha would not have been kept alive, or would have been badly mistreated as a sibling. Maybe it would have been better if he lived. I can't remember if it was stated in the Manga or just in the movie, but I believe the main reason why Sesshoumaru hated Inuyasha so much was because he blamed him for losing his father (both in the sense of tangibility and intangibility). Once he got over her personal vendetta regarding thus, Sesshoumaru's reaction toward Inuyasha changed.
