PossessedByDevil Pharaoh Ramases One that's really good but really hard to get into and REALLY hard to stay in is the Cincinatti Conservatory of Music. I know, it sounds like music only, but they've got an outstanding theatre department as well. Others are: Indiana University University of Southern California (mostly film) New York University (Manhattan) Cincinatti Conservatory is known as I believe the best for musical theatre. well, it really depends right when you get down to it what your criteria are...like, CCM is a great school, but if you want to be in New York, it's not exactly the best choice...also, if you want to pursue a double major or get a good liberal arts academic eduation, you might want a different school.

Kitsune Ookami in case anyone is wondering about NYU's Tish and Steinhart schools, Tish is more for actors who wanna do non-musical plays and Steinhart is more for musical theatre, i think (Steinhart rocks! i read the cirriculum and it is super ^^) erm...not necessarily. tisch's drama department is divided into different studios, and their musical theater studio (cap 21) is one of the top programs for musical theater in the country. tisch just has a lot of studios, so it might seem like it's grounded in straight plays only, but it's not really the case. even in tisch's other studios, they still have dance and voice in their curriculum. now, i'm not one who knows too much about steinhardt (because i'm in tisch), but i do know that they DO happen to have a great curriculum...i think they're more about learning broader aspects in the theater with a potential to teach it...after all, steinhardt is the school of education.

I'm planning on being a bio major, so off to science/tech schools for me! sweatdrop And probably a California public school, since the private schools (minus Stanford of course) here are too small to have technical curriculae. I doubt anyone outside of Cali has heard of UC Santa Cruz or UC San Diego.
I second Pharaoh's comment about University of Southern California, though; I've heard good things about it as a film school.

He loves it and plans to stay with it in New York instead of coming back to California for the one in LA. Good Luck!

I'm planning on going to Colorado State University, which has the top performing arts department in the state. I could do better, since I have a 4.0 GPA, a lot on my resume, and will probably get a full scholarship, but I'd like to stay in my state for college.

i go to George Mason University and i love it
i came here wanting to be an actor and wandered over to the dark side lol
but it's a great school... we're a BA program so you don't formally concentrate in anything... the theater core consists of theater history, participation in 4 shows, directing I, acting I, intro to technical theater and a lot of writing stuff... we're right outside of DC so you can do stuff there and most if not all of the professors are working professionals
we produce 7 shows a year, 4 of which are student produced, but all can be student designed (the other 3 just get bigger budgets and the faculty gets to direct)... we also have a fully functional scene shop and costume shop and we have a lot of lighing stuff to play with

lol... no... it's the dark side
because most of the color in my wardrobe has mutated to black and i'm usually stuck in dark places if i'm not sewing in the costume shop that has no windows
i rarely ever see the sun... but it's amazing... whenever it rains... i miss it
