Homecoming
I know I should be getting used to odd things happening to me by now, but I'm not. At all.

I went to an ancient library last night, drawn there at first by some inexplicable feeling and then by a mysterious light. Once there my natural fascination with books took over and I picked one out to read. Apparently this was the beginning of the end.

Wait, that won't make any sense to someone who wasn't there.

A man appeared in the library, quite agitated to find myself and two others there, and asked us all to put down the books and follow him. He explained that the books in that library become children after they've been touched and that we had been guided to them by fate.

Fate? More like curiosity and the inability to know when to just leave well enough alone.

Anyway, long story short - I have a new addition to my household. Iqbal and his daemon, Fortune. He is currently housed in my room in Chandra's old crib, but once he can be trusted on his own at night I will move him in with her. At least until she gets old enough to need her own room.

Although I really am not sure I had room for Iqbal in my house, I can't honestly say I would do it any differently if I could go back. As far as I can tell, he is a darling. A much better sleeper than Chandra, despite the blood on his clothes.

A mystery there. Where did the blood on his clothes and his daemon come from? It doesn't appear to be theirs. I imagine it has to do with the fortune teller mentioned in the excerpt.

Time will tell.

[Introductions]

Kam peeked into Chandra's room and found the girl pouring over the Book of the Dead in the dark. She sighed and switched on the light.

"You're going to need glasses if you keep reading in the dark, sweets."

Chandra looked up and shut the book abruptly, sliding it back behind her as she stood. As she made her way over to the door, Kam's forhead creased a little in worry. Chandra had been unusually reclusive lately and she was starting to look a little pale. Well, paler than usual.

"You ok Sha?"

Kam reached out and gently laid the back of her hand on Chandra's forehead. It was cool to the touch, but that wasn't unusual for the Legend. Chandra bore the hand calmly, standing completely still and staring at the baby propped on Kam's hip neutrally.

"I am well. I have been busy."

Kam frowned, Chandra was much too serious for her age. She needed to be out with other kids, enjoy life.

"You need to make time for other people. You spend too much time indoors."

Chandra blinked and dodged the question, reaching up one pale hand to touch Iqbal's hanging foot.

"Who is he? He smells of blood and feels of the nearness of death."

Kam looked at Iqbal in alarm, forgetting her earlier assertion to Chandra. He what? She shook her head. Kids. Such imagination. Although it was odd Chandra mentioned the blood. Kam had tried her best to wash it off both Fortune and Iqbal's clothing when they got home, but it refused to even fade.

"His name is Iqbal and his ... friend," Kam motioned to the tiny owl like creature at her feet, " is Fortune. They came from a book."

Chandra tilted her head to the side and gave Iqbal a small smile and wave. Iqbal took the hand he had been drooling all over out of his mouth and imitated her happily.

"Not my book." Chandra said, rather unnecessarily.

"No." Kam nodded in agreement. "They did not." She thought for a second, not sure how to bring up the next order of business. She wasn't sure how Chandra would react to finding out she was going to have a new sibling.

"Where does he live?" The pale girl asked innocently, still playing with his toes much to Iqbal's delight. Kam had to shift her grip on him as he giggled and tried to snatch his foot away.

"He lives here now." Kam looked at Chandra closely, hoping to note any external reaction the girl might have. She had none to the outward eye, simpy nodding as if that was the answer she expected.

"With me?"

"For a little while perhaps. Right now he is going to stay with me, like you did when you were very young. Then he will move in with you until you need your own room."

She hadn't meant to spell out the kid's whole future in the house, but Chandra's natural silence made Kam want to speak to fill the silence.

"Okay. Hello Iqbal." Chandra gave him another wave, but without the accompanying smile and then she glanced at the creature by Kam's feet. "Hello Fortune." There was an odd tone to her greeting, but Kam had a feeling that was related to the greater quantity of blood on the daemon.

"Okay, I think Iqbal may be a little hungry so we will leave you alone for now."

Kam hefted Iqbal on her hip and turned to leave causing the boy to shriek in her ear. He squirmed, trying to turn and look at Chandra again. She'd obviously made an impression. Kam just sighed, not sure Chandra was really a great role model and continued out of the room. Iqbal would calm down once she was out of sight. He seemed to share the short memory of most babies, which thankfully limited his temper tantrums.

Unnotice by Kam, Fortune remained behind them and stared at Chandra for several minutes before scrambling downstairs to join Kam and Iqbal and steal some food.

Visits and Musings
Iqbal and I went back to the library today. It was a bit surreal to go back and retrace my steps from the other night. The whole ordeal still doesn't seem quite real to me. I mean, books from a usually inaccessible library turning into children? I feel like I'm in some sort of movie.

While we were in the library, Iqbal and I ran into Wren and Mael, another one of the pairs from the other night. It was nice to see them and it made me feel a little better that Wren seemed so normal and Mael seemed like a real sweetheart. His snake daemon made me nervous, but she never did anything unexpected, so I'm just gonna chalk that up to me being scared of snakes.

Iqbal was decently behaved. He made a lot of noise and at one point he and Fortune did their odd little thing where Fortune makes a very loud noise and Iqbal just goes silent and looks scared. He always recovers, but it worries me. I wish I could understand Fortune, as it is clear Iqbal can.

I will definately have to invite Wren and Mael over to the house sometime. Perhaps Miss Naita and Pippin as well. A nice dinner party would be best.

I unsettled myself while talking to Wren about the significance of the excerpts found with the children. At first Wren and I were saying we hoped they had little to do with the children, but in the end I asked about the blood on Fortune and Iqbal. I mean if the excerpt had nothing to do with them, why would they show up smeared in blood?

Mael's excerpt had someone drowning, presumably pushed in by a blonde haired woman upon whom he vows revenge. I dont know what to make of that. The boy seemed very curious and friendly to me.

My time with Iqbal has been nice no matter what he grows up to be. I can't see anything about his future no matter how much I try, so I think I just have to leave it up to fate. Whatever is meant to be will be.

[Shopping Trip]

Kam hefted Iqbal on her hip and noted that her son was abnormally quiet. He had one fist stuck halfway in his mouth and was contentedly drolling all over it and his shirt. Kam thought about pulling it out, but she couldn't bear the thought of breaking the rare silence she currently had.

"Riana?" Kam knocked a couple times on Riana's door. "Can you look after Chandra for me? I'm taking Iqbal with me grocery shopping."

"Sure," Came the muffled response from within.

Kam wiggled her nose at Iqbal, eliciting a smile from her son. Satisfied someone would take care of her daughter, Kam turned and made her way downstairs and outside to the car. She buckled Iqbal into the child seat in the back and paused, unsure what to do with Fortune. Eventually she stuffed her into a big canvas bag, hopeful that would help hide her at the grocery store from prying eyes.

"Ok guys, time to head out." Kam started the car and pulled out of the driveway, taking a right. If she had known her daughter was missing, she might have turned the other way. But she didn't yet, so right it was.

_________________________________________________________________________

"Now sweets, mommy needs to buy food and you need to be as quiet as possible. Be a good boy and mommy will give you a treat when we get home."

Kam quietly spoke to Iqbal as she sat him in the front of the cart and placed the bag containing Fortune beside him. Iqbal ignored Kam to try and turn to stare at all the other people moving around the store.

"Please sweets, please be quiet." Kam looked at Iqbal seriously, holding his face in her hands. She released him as his face started to screw up in annoyance. She knew he was much to young to reason with, but she had to try. Fortune, for one, apparently did listen, curling up in the bag and yawning. Kam could only hope Iqbal would follow suit.

Kam pulled out her list with a sigh, noting how busy the store was. She had made the list in the interests of shortening the trip, but it seemed impossibly long now that she was here.

Iqbal remained silent and curious about his surroundings until they got in line. The woman in front of them had a young daughter about 7 or 8 years old who was fascinated by 'the baby' and would not stop trying to touch Iqbal no matter what Kam or her mom said. Iqbal bore the situation for all of 30 seconds before shrieking extremely loudly right in the girl's face. This of course sent her into tears and woke up Fortune, who started trying to get out of the bag. Bright red with embarassment, Kam tried to apologize to the mother and keep Fortune under wraps, while bearing the stares of half the store.

"I am so sorry, this is his first trip out to the grocery store and I think he is a little excited."

It didn't really help Kam's case that Iqbal was now staring at the girl's tears with silent fascination.

"A good mother would have her child under better control. Scaring my little baby like that!"

The woman scopped up her crying daughter and hugged her while paying for her groceries. Then she glared at Kam while leaving the store. Kam just gaped and then paid for her groceries, wanting nothing more than to get the hell out of the store.

_________________________________________________________________________

"That wasn't very nice Iqbal." Kam said, placing him back in his child seat in the car.

Fortune poked out of her bag, finally free, and squawked at Kam. Clearly she thought Kam was in the wrong.

"Yes, yes, I know that little girl was annoying, but you can't just go scaring people because they annoy you. There are lots of annoying people."

Fortune ignored Kam and settled into Iqbal's lap. Iqbal just shoved a hand in his mouth and started gumming it, his eyes tearing up. Kam braced herself for an outburst and shut the car door, before getting into the driver's seat. The ride home was going to be a long one.

[Shock and Dismay]

After she finished putting away the groceries, which she had to do with one arm because Iqbal was squealing in her ear on the other side, Kam made her way upstairs and set Iqbal down for a nap. He seemed adamant about being wide awake, but after the fit he had thrown Kam knew he had to be tired. She hummed to him, placing Fortune in with him and turning on the baby monitor. She had learned from experience that he would sleep better without her in the room watching him.

"You just take a nap sweets. Mommy needs to go check on Sha."

Kam smiled at Iqbal and poked his nose, prompting him to look at it cross-eyed before yawning widely. His little eyes dropped as she hummed again, a nameless tune she remembered hearing as a child.

Satisfied, Kam made her way out of the room and down the stairs to poke her head in Chandra's room.

"Sha?" Kam flipped on the lights that were off. This in and of itself was not odd at all, Chandra often liked to sit in the dark. But the fact that the room was totally empty when the lights were flipped on was. Kam blinked at the room, but supressed the vague feeling of unease she felt. Chandra had probably slipped downstairs while she was putting Iqbal down for his nap.

However, once she got downstairs Kam still didn't see Chandra anywhere and a quick check with Riana revealed that no one had actually seen her daughter since that morning.

Kam sat ont he couch in shock, her head in her hands. How could she lose a child? God only knew what had happened to her baby! She should have checked on her before leaving, how could she have just assumed everything was alright? She hit herself in the forehead hard enough to prompt tears for the second time that day feeling guilty. This was so terrible! Who lost a child?

Kam started to cry, totally at a loss as what to do. Finally she stood, wiping away tears. She should call the cops. No matter how much she worried they would take away her daughter, at least they might be able to find her.

[Bad News]

"We'll keep looking ma'am, but ... " The sad looking policeman sat Kam down on the couch gently before he continued sympathetically. "Every hour she is missing means we have a smaller chance of finding her."

Kam was already crying, having started when she answered the door and noticed the policeman was alone. They hadn't found her daughter and it was already the next day. Where was her baby?

The policeman gave Kam a half hearted smile as if he wanted to say he still had hope, but knew she would realize he was lying. Twenty-four hours was a long time for a child to be missing, especially one so young. Kam's only hope was that since Chandra wasn't a normal child, the normal rules didn't apply.

Kam let the officer out the door, and closed it behind him before sinking to the floor and burying her face in her hands. She rocked back and forth as she sobbed, banging the door with her back but not noticing. She didn't notice anything at all until she heard Iqbal screech from the top of the stairs.

In a second she was up, wiping her face and sprinting to him. In all honesty, he screeched all the time even if nothing was wrong just so he could be the center of attention, but Kam was feeling overprotective so she ran to him anyway.

He was laying on his back in the crib, perfectly still as he looked at Fortune. Fortune was precariously perched on the side of the crib with his head tilted so that one eye looked down at Iqbal.

Kam reached into the crib and pulled Iqbal out, hugging him to her chest and turcking his head under her chin. She rocked him a little, not wanting to upset him with her sadness.

"Everything ok sweets? Mommy's having a bad day, but everything will be okay."

She wasn't sure about that last part, but it sounded good. She was probably setting Iqbal up to have false expectations about how good life was, but that was the fun of being a child right? You hadn't yet seen how ugly the world could be.

Iqbal gurgled sleepily from under Kam's chin as she rubbed his back, clearly enjoying the attention. She enjoyed the contect too, it was nice to know one of her kids was safe.

So she could be the phone in case the police called, Kam brought Iqbal downstairs with Fortune trailing behind. She sat on the couch in the living room carefully and stretched out her legs, shifting Iqbal so he had his back to her chest. Settled, she started humming and found it hard to keep her eyes open. She had been out all the night before looking for Chandra, running purely on fear and worry, but apparently she had reached her limit and she dozed a little with Iqbal cradeled in her lap.

Tiagra looked around stalker hall. It was very quiet for the past few days. She'd been elsewhere for a few weeks, and had missed the comfort of the old house. She made her way around the hall examining the vaious things hung on the walls. Eventually she sat down for a rest.

Pippin hustles through the doors with a few mutters. The usual place on his arm isn't taken up by his black and orange haired cling-a-long; rather, there's a scruffy wolf babe with a bloody griffon-creature atop the man's white shoulder.

"Damnit, I just have to be so nice and accept babysitting duties.." he complains under his breath. Sighing impatiently, he takes a look down at the child, then around the room.

Laying eyes on Tia, he immediately brightens up. SALVATION.

" 'Ey, top of the .. night to you!" he pipes up, cheerfully. The daemon scuffles up her feathers in disgust at the sudden falseness of the man's tone.

Tia's eyes glanced over at Pippin. She remembered him.

"Wha - Yes? Oh hello there!" she said bustling standing up giving a quirkly smile. Someone sure was suspicious looking. Her eyes darted to the daemon and the forgotton.

Well this was going to be an interesting night.

He scuttles over by her side, his limey shoes scuffing up the dirty floors. Okay, so no renovations have been done as of late, but still! Who has the time when they're wasting it babysitting?

"You look like you need a friend," he says in a lame, quickly thought excuse. "This little guy and his lady friend were looking for a date .. for a while.. and.. " Cradling the baby, he scratches the back of his neck with his free hand. The daemon pecks at it angrily, retreating to the amused baby.

Glaring up at his shoulder and giving his hand a fast lookover to ensure that he's not cut, he gives up the act. "You wouldn't mind doing a dude a favour and babysitting a while, now, wouldja?"

Pleasesayyespleasesayyespleasesayyes.

"Do I? Well yes, being around camels for a living does attract odd people ... " she stated being dragged over.

Tia's eyes glanced over to the Forgotten and Daemon.

"Aww would they?" she smiled at them looking into the babies eyes.

"Oh of course! I wouldn't mind at all!" she stated happily clapping her hands in approval.

"Does he have a name, and his Daemon as well?"

"His name's Iqbal, and the daemon's Fortune," Pippin explains hurriedly, exchanging the baby and daemon for his arms to be free again. "You need anything, I'm sure you can find someone out and about the house. It's never actually empty.."

He reaches the door, rummaging through his pocket for his keys. Blueprints, no.. Tracking device, no.. Rifle, no.. "You suck!" button, no.. HUZZAH. KEYSES.

Swinging the chain on his finger, he gives a wide grateful grin. "Thankyousomuch. I'm sure you three'll get along wonderfully."

Now for that heist..

"I'll be seeing you!" he giggles (yes, giggles..) on his way out the door. FREEDOM. Oh, the taste of sweet, sweet freedom.. heart

"Thank you!" she replied back trying to catch all the words.

"I'll see you later then, Mr. Pippin!" she added cradling Iqbal.

"I think you and I will be seeing each other for a little while," she smiled at him as he looked into her eyes, tail twitching a bit. Fortune, nipped at Tiagra pants.

"Ouch! how did you get down there? C'mere little one ... " she bent down so Fortune could crawl onto her shoulder. She was small enough to sit on it like a parrot. Hopefully this was a good idea.

Well, I can't say that this week hasn't been eventful. It begin with my visit to Wren's house for a playdate with Mael and Freyr. Quite a fun day as well.

Next, I was going about my business in stalker hall as usual when Pippin came up quite suspiciously with a Forgotten child and his Daemon. After a very quick convorsation, I found myself under babysitting duties until, Kam, his original guardian, arrives back home.

I'm not sure what will come in the future ... but his name is Iqbal and his Daemon's Fortune. Iqbal is quite adorable indeed, but Fortune ... eh I don't think she's too fond of me. Very protective and territorial of Iqbal though. We shall see then.

Confused and Happy,
Tia

|12/28/04|

Kam approached the Forgotten Documents HQ with a nervous, guilty feeling in her stomach and sweaty palms. It had been some time since she had left Iqbal in Pippin's capable hands in a fit of overwhelming stress. Was he alright? What would they say when she said she still couldn't keep him?

Kam pushed open the front door with slightly shakey hands and gingerly made her way inside.

"Hello?" She yelled, wondering where Iqbal might be.

Tia was sitting along in the kitchen with Iqbal, which had become a favorite spot of the duo.

"Ooo look Iqbal applesauce!" Tia smiled letting the spoon fall into his mouth. He gave a little kick from his feet excitedly. Fortune, for once was sleeping beside Iqbal till her head poked up from Kam's voice. She stood up on all fours and squawked incessantly to Tia.

"What's wrong Fortune?" Tia asked covering part of her ear. Fortune kept up her pace. Tia grumbled.

"Is anyone there?" she yelled back.

Hearing someone answering her, Kam followed the echoes of the voice. Whoever was there should know something about Iqbal's current location.
"Yes, it's me. Kam." She shouted back, almost within eyeshot of the kitchen. "Where are you?"

"Um, in the kitchen," Tia responded, a bit at loss of words. Wow, Kam was back already? Seemed like only yesterday she had been caring for Iqbal.

Kam was close to the kitchen when she heard Tiagra's voice, so she stepped in before long. As she got into eye sight of Tia, Iqbal, and fortune Kam froze. She resisted the urge to tear up. Seeing Iqbal, obivously happy, with someone else was no reason to be upset. She had given him up. She didn't have time to be a real mother to him.
"Hi." She faltered finally.

Tia placed the spoon on the table and closed the lid of food. Fortune had stopped her sqwauking and looked to Kam. Iqbal kicked his feet and put his hands in his mouth curiously.

"Hello," Tia gave a meek smile, "Pippin told me to care for Iqbal till you returned, I'm Tia."

Kam pulled out a chair and sat, staring back at Fortune. She smiled up at Tiagra finally, looking up to meet her eyes.
"It's nice to meet you Tia. It looks like Iqbal has been very happy with you."
Kam put her hands on the table and fidgetted a bit.
"I'm glad to see that. This is hard to say but, "Kam glanced back down at her hands, "I don't think I'm going to be able to take Iqbal back."

"I think he's naturally a happy baby, he hasn't given me much trouble ... although Fortune, she seems a bit protective," she chuckled to herself. Her expression became blank at the words.

"Not take him back?" she blinked trying to understand. Fortune made her way into Iqbal's lap, watching the two, while Iqbal continued to suck on his hands.

Kam continued staring at her hands, tearing up despite her decision earlier not to. Her feet were shaking, tapping out a quiet nervous rhythm on the floor.
"I... I'm still too busy to be a good mom." She looked up, feeling she owed Tiagra and Iqbal more of the truth than that. "I snapped at him. I almost hit Iqbal and I did hit Fortune." Her eyes pleaded for understanding. "Between not sleeping well and working too hard, I'm on edge. It scares me to think about what happened and I don't want it to ever happen again."
Kam swallowed and looked back down to her now still hands.
"I can't take Iqbal back. He would be better in another, calmer home."

Tia looked at Kam, "If you're sure this is what you want to do ... then you are a good mother. If you think that your child is better in someone else?s hands, I can't stop you..." she paused, her eyes a bit wet, "Whatever you do, I'll help watch over him," she smiled thoughtfully.

Kam looked up at Tia, relieved that the other woman understood. And didn't immediately jump up and steal Iqbal away.
"Thank you." Kam put her hands palm down on the table and pushed herself back to her feet. "It is what I think is best. But I hope to visit Iqbal when I have more time?" She left the uncertainty hanging in the air between them as she gazed at Iqbal.

"You're welcome," she grinned turning her head to make sure Iqbal wasn't fidgeting.

"Visit? ..." she paused with a bit of shock, "Does that mean you're giving me ... guardianship? or maybe I misunderstood ..."

Iqbal's wide eyes made their way to Kam, gurgling through his fingers.

Kam nodded, a little surprise Tiagra hadn't expected that.
"Yes. He seems happy staying with you and Pippin wouldn't have let you babysit if he didn't trust you."
Kam brought up a hand and gave Iqbal a little finger wave with a smile.
"Do you not... want him?" Kam asked, horrified.

"Oh no, no! I was actually going to be extremely sad to give him up, it's just ... well, no one's every given me any opportunity to care for another life and it's a bit overwhelming," she smiled scratching her head. She paused for a moment to let the new information fully sink in.

"Wow, thank you ... you truly don't know how much this means to me, I will do my best!"

Iqbal cooed at the finger, kicking his own feet.

Kam smiled sadly at Iqbal, who seemed oblivious to everything going on around him. That really was just as well one part of her said, even as another was wishing he would cry and fuss to see her go.
"I'll always love you Iqbal." Kam said, her voice catching just a little. "Tiagra will be a good mommy."
She looked up at Tiagra and gave her a real smile.
"I'm glad to see him with someone who appreciates what taking care of him means."
Kam turned a little towards the exit.
"I'll want to visit, but not for a while. I'll be busy and it?s probably better for him that way."

Iqbal looked to Kam. He had a curious expression on his face and furrowed his eyebrows. Fortune squawked again, a bit protective over Iqbal.

"She does that to everyone," she gave a small smile.

"Thank you, and I think whenever you'd like to visit is fine, I live in Durem," she grinned back, "I hope your life will be better for you, and don't stress to much,"

Kam smiled and gave a final wave, including Fortune.
"I remember Fortune well. Hopefully as she grows, she'll learn not to suspect everyone of meaning Iqbal harm. And I hope life looks up as well. Be well and enjoy your time with Iqbal. He is a sweetie."
Kam walked out, resisting the urge to stay and chat - to prolong the time she had with Iqbal.

Tia waved back, saddened by the occassion, but kept her spirits up.

"Well Iqbal ... I guess that means we'll be seeing each other for a while then hmm?" she reached down to pick him up letting Fortune hop onto her shoulder.

"Should get you in for a nap as well, we've got lots of time to get to know one another."

Now that Iqbal's sleeping, I finally have time to write. Yesterday afternoon, Kam came back to the Forgotten HQ. As you know I was given babysitting duties to Iqbal and his daemon Fortune a while back. When I heard Kam's voice in the kitchen, I was pretty sad that my time with Iqbal would be over.

Then, she told me she couldn't keep Iqbal. I was shocked, really shocked! Though her reasons were valid ones and I respect and honor her ability to give her child a new home. I would have never thought she'd end up handing them to me! She said that she'd come by and visit sometime, and then we parted in different directions gaining what the other had lost. It was an odd moment, filled with sadness, but with an odd ray of hope.

I suppose, now is where the real adventure begins hmm?

Shocked but ecstatic,

Tia picked up Iqbal from his crib lightly cradling him in her arms, while Fortune stretched her back and hoped onto Tia's shoulder.

"You know guys, this feels odd, that I'm going to be your new Mom ... It feels different than when I've been caring for you," she smiled as Iqbal still was drowsy. She walked back into stalker hall into the living room where she sat on one of the couches nearby.

Things had changed, one being the new guardian of Iqbal and Fortune, and that Fortune and Iqbal were beginning to trust her more, especially Fortune, who had only pecked and nipped at her once every few days.

Jamie sidled in through the doors of the Headquarters, holding her baby Ophelia in one arm. She made her way to the Stalker Hall, and finding no one led her to the next room, the living room where she saw a woman and baby.

"Hello?" she called, Ophelia babbling too. Jamie walked over to the couch, hoping the other two wouldn't mind her joining them.

Tia looked up to the newcomers. "Ah hello there," she smiled cradling Iqbal so he'd have a chance to meet another baby, but he lifted one eyelid open before closing it once more.

Fortune had been sleeping on Tia's shoulder as well, she opened and eye to the small child who didn't seemed harmless so she drifted back into sleep.

"Come and join us,"

"Thanks, Tia, yes?" the young woman asked, settling down on the seat. She put Ophelia on her lap, who was staring curiously at the other baby. She had seen him briefly before, but wasn't quite sure where and what happened.

"I heard about your guardianship of Iqbal." Jamie added, smiling. "Congratulations!"

"Yes, it is Tia, and you're Tora?"

She propped Iqbal up into a bit of a sitting position, blowing on the top of his ears, which twtiched slightly. He opened his eyes lazily to look at Ophelia. He blinked a few times noticing that her ears were like his except ... different, but she didn't have someone like Fortune.

The woman laughed, bouncing Ophelia lightly up and down on her lap. "Tora, but you can call me Jamie." she replied, stroking one of her daughter's curly chestnut locks.

The baby watched Iqbal, studying his strange padded feet and ears, noticing she had ears like that too. She put her hand to one of them, as if checking they were still there.

And why was there a bird like creature with him? Ophelia gazed, admiring it's little tipped wings. She knew another baby who had wings like that, remembering the feather she took from them.

Tia smiled. "Jamie it is then."

Iqbal studied the baby for a little while before shoving his fingers into his mouth again, as he usually did. His ears twitched as he gave a gurgle with a gummy smile.

"He seems to be a very happy child,"

Fortune nipped at Tia's ear lightly, as if to direct her attention in introducing her.

"Ah, and this is Fortune, the infamous nipping griffon daemon,"

Fortunes sat proudly on Tia?s shoulder as if the dictator of them both. She loved the attention. Iqbal let out a small squeal to Fortune.

Jamie laughed at the Daemon. "I see she's an attention seeker."

Ophelia babbled, pointing at Iqbal. Her tail twitched, creeping around her leg. She whimpered, meaning she wanted down.

"Yes yes dear, ok ok. Only for a little while, now." Jamie instructed, carefully placing Ophelia on the rug. The baby squealed quietly, happy she got her own way.

"She's strange, she is." Jamie said to Tia, watching her baby at the same time. "One day she's as still as a statue and the next she won't stop fidgeting."

"Yes, most of the time, other times she's trying to keep everyone away from Iqbal," she smirked patting Fortune on the head.

Iqbal's eyes turned when Ophelia was put on the rug. He wanted to try!
He bounced on Tia lap gurgling and shaking his arms to the floor.

"You want to try and crawl instead of sit? Be my guest," she placed him on the rug, a little farther away from Ophelia. Fortune nipped her ear and squawked onto to the floor, following Iqbal. Tia rubbed her ear.

"Iqbal usually wants to be held. He really needs to get his exercise," she smiled.

"She's overprotective too, then? And does she always n** you like that?" Jamie replied, laughing again at the gryphon's antics. She was wary that she might n** Ophelia if she got too close to Iqbal.

Ophelia chuckled quietly, gurgling and babbling to herself in her own language. Her tail was twitching quite violently, tossing around in the air and curling around her waist. She laughed at Iqbal and Fortune, finding them rather amusing.

"Yes, just a tad, I'm sure she doesn't see Ophelia as a threat though," she reassured her.

"She's gotten better, she used to n** me everyday, before she trusted me, I think she's beginning to learn though, she hasn't been nipping as hard as before when she drew blood," a meek smile crawled across her face.

Iqbal sat forward holding his toes giggling at Ophelia swishing his own tail lightly. He didn't have full control over it, but when he shook it, it usually meant he was happy.

Fortune sat at Iqbal's side blinking while trying to preen her feathers.

"Yes, she'll hopefully start warming to you." the woman replied in a happy, if not slightly sarcastic tone.

Ophelia giggled more, her toes wiggling. She leaned forward so she was on all fours, and tried to crawl closer to Iqbal. She didn't crawl, or atleast try to very often, so wasn't very good. She wobbled and fell on her side, rolling onto her back. There she lay and babbled, looking at Iqbal from an upside down view.

"Hopefully, I know she's going to be quite the character as she gets older," she smiled.

Iqbal tilted his head to the funny looking baby. He gave small coos leaning forward some saliva dribbling from the corner of his mouth.

"Coo?"

Fortune settled down on all fours swishing her own tail slightly. It was good for Iqbal to finally meet others rather than herself.

"D'you think she'll get any bigger?" asked Jamie, quite interested in Fortune.

Ophelia chuckled loudly, kicking her feet up and down. One fist was clenched, the other reaching as far as she could over her head at Iqbal, waving it slightly. Her ears and tail were both twitching, probably because she was happy or excited.

"I think so. She's of the gryphon nature, and they can be quite big," she chuckled. It was hard to imagine her little Fortune bigger.

Iqbal rocked back and forth smiling and squealing in happiness. He didn't know exactly what this baby was doing but it was fun. He tried to reach her own ear with his small hand.

Fortune sat and watched as she traveled to the other side of Iqbal prancing.

Draped in armazine of a somewhat florid gold, Naita's ample form could be made out, approaching the building from whence she had acquired her first ward. Said ward was currently balanced against one of her guardians hips, swaying gently and babbling away with only two words suitably coherent above the mass. Following the success of her first word, that remonstration against Breena, "bad," Eydis had quickly proceeded to learn to say "mama," the result being that more often than not she could be found softly cooing in Lady Siri's ear "mama, bad, mama, bad." This caused more than a normal amount of mirth about the manor, for such would be her gleeful cry as "mama" read to her.

Pausing on the threshold, Naita glanced about the old place, before seeming to make a decision, and heading for a room other than her usual choice. Amused smile playing upon her rosy lips, the woman headed with little hesitation for the living room, lilting tune escaping her throat in a hum. She would soon return to court, there was not long now.

"It'll certainly be interesting to see just how big she gets!" exclaimed Jamie, thinking of the pictures of gryphons she had seen.

Quickly kneeling down, Jamie propped Ophelia back up in a sitting position, not sure if it was completely safe to have her rolling around so much on her back. It probably was perfectly fine, but Jamie had a tendency to get paranoid.

Ophelia moaned a little, but soon found it fun as she could once again see Iqbal and Fortune clearly. She reached her little hand out towards Iqbal, wanting to touch his furry ears and the funny pads she saw on his feet.

Jamie looked up, to see a young woman whom she hadn't met before. She smiled politely, waving to her.

"It will!" Tia's smile widened at the thought.

Iqbal's ears twitched to the sound of newcomers. Fortune sat up immediately and curiously tried to get a better look at them. She saw one to be quite big, and would have to keep a careful eye on her.

Iqbal squealed happily at the new people coming into the room. So many new things were happening today!

Tia also looked up to the newcomers and waved. It was great that Iqbal was finally able to meet other people, especially if they happened to be of his kind.

Stood on the threshold of this cosy room, Naita took a moment to eye the contents, and it's inhabitants. Marking with pleasure two infants, one of Eydis' own race, she jiggled the toddler laughingly, trying to shake her loose from the shoulder in which she had buried herself upon the sight of unfamiliar faces.
Frozen, the tiny girl's pet, and own darling, was perched proudly upon Lady Siri's opposite shoulder, and nigh on screeched at the sight of the gryphon and her master. Such rough characters! What if they caused he or his mistress pain? Then, Eydis would go about playing with the snake-charmer, against his better judgement. Who knew what she looked for in a friend?

Oblivious to the ruffling of the little avian, Naita nodded politely to the adults, before stepping inside, and setting Eydis gingerly on the ground.
"Play, my love, while I sit," she whispered to her babe.
Frozen, ever a diligent guard, made a few flaps of his tiny wings, and landed on his darling's head, standing at attention.

Kel-chan hefted Althalus on her hip again, smiling cheerfully as she spotted the people gathered around.
"Wow, it's nice to see someone around here. Had a good holiday?"

She noticed Tia sitting with Iqbal and nodded her head to the seat beside. "Mind if I sit down? This boy's a little heavy..." Althalus burbled happily and tried to launch himself head down out of her arms, before he was deftly caught and placed on the redhead's lap.

Ophelia gasped aloud, looking at the older child that was sat down beside her and Iqbal. She was enthralled by her icy skin and eyes, and she had a little animal thing too! She was dribbling a little out of the corner of her mouth, her toes still wiggling in utter delight.

As if that wasn't enough excitement for the baby, yet another baby was near her, sitting on a women's lap. She chuckled excitedly, mouth now open in awe.

Fortune's senses perked up quite a bit. Where on earth where all these people appearing from?! It was as if they were popping up like daises! She had to protect Iqbal! She unfurled her wings from their sides and backed up into the Iqbal studying her new opponents.

Iqbal, on the other hand squealed even louder in excitement babbling constantly flexing his fingers out for the others to come closer so he could play with them.

"My hello everyone!" Tia said warmly, moving softly along the couch, and glancing to Iqbal every so often, while greeting the others.

Finding herself a perch on a chair, Lady Siri cast her eyes once more over the adults, attention taking in the newcomer, as well.
"Good day, madams," he said, at last. She sat with the usual impeccable posture of one trapped within a corset's tight embrace, but delivered a smile warm enough to show no distress in it's confines.

Eydis, meanwhile, whimpered softly, before gulping back her fear, and eyeing up the others. One held a vaguely familiar aspect, too vague, though, for her young mind, and they were, the three of them, strangers to her eyes.
Icy gaze appraising them, the toddler gave an uncertain, tight, smile, distrust of new faces rather more evident than Naita would have like. Frozen, though, delighted to see his mistress careful.

Althalus stuck a finger in his mouth as he stared at the other children. Stealth curled her tail tighter around his neck, tilting her sleek head in bright appraisal of the surroundings. The little boy tapped his arm impatiently against the restraining parental wrist, brown eyes intent at the little feline and lupine beings opposite. But the daemon! She was a little upset... he tilted his head towards his own, wondering what to do.

"Hello everyone, bust tonight." Jamie said, slightly surprised at all the commotion in the Headquarters. She had never seen it so busy, and certainly never seen so many Forgotten altogether. She just hoped Ophelia wouldn't feel left out, and hoped the others wouldn't mind her being there.

Ophelia herself just stared at everyone, especially the babies and toddler. She was absolutely amazed, and quite enjoyed seeing all the little animals that appeared with them. She didn't really wonder why they were there, as her little brain couldn't quite process that sort of information yet. Her tail creeped round her waist and just reached her mouth, it was like a comfort.

It had been far too long since Wren had come to the HQ with Mael in his arms, but the baby was in his arms, and not nearly as fussy as he had been weeks previous during and after the events with Nora. He could only hope that Mael had calmed down. He had, after all, been okay on other trips out.

( But that was because Wren had made sure people didn't pay that much attention to Mael and he knew there was no way out of this. )

Never mind the fact that there was an additional shadow clinging to his own, a darkly glowing blue-ish one that kept to lurking near his feet as pushed open the door to the HQ and made his way inside. It was curious about this place, he knew that. Never mind that there was all ready a sizeable crowd gathered and thus it was more curious, but Wren was concerned about Mael.

Mael had turned his attention to it, mostly focusing on that of the children present. The adults he was trying to ignore, tail tightening around Wren's arm just a little. He let out a little hiss and then a giggle, squirming. He knew those that were young like himself, at least.

"So, is there room for a few more in here?" Wren finally voiced himself, a small grin on his face, to the group.

Iqbal's eyes focused on the blue lady. She was a very pretty blue. He liked that color, and red. He gurgled for her to come closer as well as the other one ... who was like him aswell. His attention also drifted to Ophellia.

Iqbal was such a fool! So calmly trusting the others! Fortune made a small possive squawk and huddled behind Iqbal, while he was preoccupied.

Tia nodded to the other women as well, fixing her posture a bit to the one that was sitting ridgidly straight.

Edit: Iqbal's ears perked up once more to another person! Wait ... he actually know this little one! He let out a squeal to the other Forgotten known as Mael. Fortune was actually a bit relieved by at least knowing another one that was on their side.

"Hello, Wren." Jamie said, giggling under her breath at Ophelia and her reaction to the crowd. Ophelia wasn't normally around so many of her own age, and had almost never seen any sort of animalistic creatures up close. She was happy for her daughter, happy that she could have these experiences.

The baby was becoming slightly shy, whimpering a little. It had all come too quickly, and her confidence had been lost. She edged backwards a little towards her mother, wanting to be picked up again.

Jamie did so, partly laughing. "Poor things went shy."

Eydis blinked. The wolf child confounded her understanding. Did he ask to play, or lead her into a trap? Cautious by nature, her late experience with Breena had left her downright suspicious. On this day alone she displayed a dark bruise, a deep purple against her delicate blue skin, down her left arm, that which she favoured for use.
Frozen's gaze soon levelled on the wolf-boy, and not without some alarm. A child with the blood of a killer race? His poor darling could be mauled by the child! Of the little feline girl he had less alarm, but still feared lest her claws were hidden. With a soft squawk to his mistress, the avian's distress was made known, and strengthened at the knowledge the serpentine one had entered.

Turning her head to greet the familiar faces of Mael and Wren, Naita gave a quick wave, before turning back to the other women.
"How d'ye all do, today?"

Iqbal cooed and bobbed back and forth. He tilted his head to the blue one and the small other one with her. He felt a bit of suspicion in them, but didn't know what it had meant. All he knew is that he wanted to touch her hair.

He also wanted to see his little friend he had seen before. He liked to play with him. His tail swished slighly as his ears twitched excitedly.

Fortune, being the overproctive gryphon she was, started at Frozen. She knew she could take him down easily and that small reptile as well. She had nothing to fear. She moved closer to the group proudly and furled her wings back into place sitting with a conquering expression on her face.

"Ah, hello Wren," Tia answered a bit lately, "I'm doing well, still getting the handle on caring for children," she smiled gently.

"'Lo to you Jams, Tiagra, and Naita. So many here today." And of course, the greeting was accompanied with a slight bow, which somehow he all ways seemed to manage -- but from the squirm and the hiss from Mael he didn't appreciate it. It blocked his attention of those playing together, the older ones -- the women he could tell -- he could care less about. Suffocation was keeping her eyes on them for him, tongue flickering out and visible from the spot she claimed around Wren's neck.

"M'doing fine myself, after all the holidays and everything else." He moved over to the area where the others were at, slowly crouching down so that he could let Mael join the others before claiming a spot to sit himself. Suffocation slithered down to be beside her Forgotten who was slowly turning his attention to all of them one by one. The feline girl was suspicious, but not a problem. Eydis, Eydis he remembered but she looked bigger than his memory and he gave her a curious look, tail flicking as it loosened from his father's arm. Her daemon was stared at for a moment, but both Forgotten and daemon, and then ignored.

Of course, Iqbal remained the same as in his memory along with Frozen. Never mind those ears which still pique his curiousity. He let out another giggle, wiggling and squirming forward. Althalus, well, Mael still wasn't sure of either him or his daemon and he let out a quiet garble of baby speak, waving his hand at the group while Suffocation curled around his arm.

April holds onto the bars of the rigid banister preciously and with both hands. She takes it one step at a time, very slowly making her way down the unstable stairs.

Slowly now, careful..

Pippin sneaks on past his FD daughter, making sure to press against the wall so he doesn't disturb her progress. Instead, he just beams at her and hops the last two stairs to the bottom, turning on his heel to watch her the rest of the way.

The movement of her father's jump catches the toddler's eye, and she pauses the observe. Jumping the stairs? Far too interesting.. though it seems pretty dangerous. Letting go of the railing, she sits herself down on a particularly rough stair; next, she stretches her short legs, leaning back on her arms until her legs reach out and touch the next step.

Although painstakingly drawn out and bothersome to Pippin's patience, he manages an encouraging smile through the whole process.

"You did great, kiddo!" he laughs with a bit of a squeal, scooping her up from the last step and raising April above his horned lime head. Taking a few long strides, he follows the sounds of the action and activity. Finally, company who talks!

"Holidays, holidays." Jamie sighed, but with a smile. "Everyone moans about them being busy and hectic, but plead for more when they end." She continued, blinking. She sounded stupid.

"Um, don't mind me."

Ophelia, now in a safer place, looked down on the other children again. She stared at the newest to arrive, the one with a tail. He too, like the rest of them, had a little animal. It caught her eye as it was so bright, slither along with the baby. A long wormy thing, she thought, like those things she found in the garden at home, but brighter. Ophelia squealed and pointed at it, memerized by it's bright colours.

Jamie, meanwhile, had been watching the toddler on the staircase. She recognized her as April, for she had seen her a few times with Pippin on visits to the HQ.

Iqbal swayed back and forth popping a few fingers into his mouth, innocent bi-colored eyes drifting from the various children around him. He was more prone to focus on Mael, since he was the first one he had met, but the others were too interesting not to focus on.

Fortune gave a lazy yawn. These were boring creatures not doing anything, which was good that her job would be easier but bad because she didn't have much else to do.

Tia's eyes checked back to look at Iqbal, who seemed to be enjoying himself, and Fortune looking bored. She chuckled to herself smiling.

"Oi, Pippin!" Wren said, coming to his feet and moving to snag a chair somewhere around either Tia or Naita, at this point, he wasn't that picky. Of course, he had to pause, turning to look in the direction of Pippin's voice and see if April was around before snagging a seat.

Suffocation lifted her head, eyeing the feline that squealed and was seemingly pointing at her. Mael followed her gaze and both of them stared at the little girl babe for a only a moment before going back to not paying attention to her. Females were trouble, particularly old ones and ones they didn't know.

( Never mind the fact that there were two, not just one, daemons that were bird-ish -- so both Mael and Suffocation were extremely cautious in their movements. )

He was crawling his way towards Iqbal and Eydis it seemed, unsure which one to visit. Eydis was bigger and even though she was what she was, he was sure he could trust her. After all, they had played together before and she was nice. Then again, there was Iqbal and those ears that still made him curious, except that Fortune had him wary. He paused, more garbled baby speak escaping, and sat back to peer at both. Hmmm. And where was that shifty character?

Gleeful at the sight of her friend, Eydis stretched an upturned hand towards Mael, her own adopted signal that she wished to play. She was not yet sure that the others would not be like that tiny white baby, feigning sleep until Eydis approached, then letting fly with all manner of abuse shocking in one so tiny, and so frail.
Frozen, eyes narrowing and staying upon the snake with Mael, let out a shrill cry, for the beast, he was sure, meant every harm imaginable!

With some effort, Eydis let this pass, and instead held out a shaking hand to the strangers, an uncommon leap of faith in an infant so cautious.

Pippin pokes his head in, having April seated on his shoulder. The small girl keeps perfectly silent, her mouth drawn in a thin line; the expression is balanced in a way that it could topple to either a frown or smile.

"Hullo, hullo! It's superb to see so many people around!" Pippin rejoices in greeting, setting April down on her feet in the same area as the others. "New year, new plans! A fresh start!"

Wobbling slightly as she catches her balance, April's wide black eyes examine the children she's been brought into company with. The sight of all the daemons make the gears in her little head click softly; she begins to pat at her clothing for her own.

Nothing?

She pulls at her scarf, but it just falls empty onto the ground in a yellow heap. Slightly disnerved, she takes her almond coloured jacket by the pockets and gives it a shake. Curiosity..?

Iqbal remained silent. It was rare for him, but he was observing the others for the first time, making sure to keep their mental images with him. Something told him he'd need to remember them later.

He let his fingers out of his mouth and dangle his hands at his sides. Some of his silver hair covered his blue eye as he curiously watched the others, ears twitching at the sounds.

Fortune's head turned toward Iqbal. She was curious as to why he was so quiet, then noting his eyes observing the others. Perhaps there was thought going on in his brain. She made a small happy squawk to prance to his other side.

Tia sat idly between the others, and had been distracted that Pippin was soon to join them. The same odd fellow who had given her the chance to care for Iqbal. She should really thank him, at some point in time.

Halo came in balancing Otium on her hip and complaining in hushed curses as Immaculate clambered over her chest shoulders and head. It was probably bad to have a cat and a bear combined into one creature. It just made her all the more troublesome.

Otium was looking as he always did.. black and white. He did have a sprig of holly on the band of his hat to spruce himself up a bit for the holidays and he was chewing feverishly on his teething ring.

Rather surprised by the growth of the group, Naita nevertheless smiled warmly as Pippin and Halo made their way into view.
"Hello there," she called to them, forgetting her manners for a moment in waving rather than her usual sedate nod.

Locks of white hair falling across her face as Eydis' head tipped to one side, the girl eyed April curiously. Another one her age? In her attempts to reconcile herself to the thought, she had forgotten Frozen's perch, and with a squawk and muffled thud did he hit the floor.
Fearing for his life, and in rather a flutter, the little bird hopped, skipped, and damn near took a wing off attempting to fly to the safety of Eydis' hand. Once reaching this goal, he seemed to remind the toddler of how he came to be on the ground, and with a pang of regret, she began stroking his soft feather tenderly.

Pippin grins widely, highly enjoying the company.

"Snacks! Drinks and snacks, drinks and snacks," he exclaims hurriedly, bounding away to the kitchen before another word is spoken.

The corners of April's mouth tug down. Her little horned turtle never leaves her side.. he's got to be here someplace. She continues searching, though rather discouraged, shaking every article of clothing on her body. Nothing still?

Up the rigid and highly unsafe stairs, Curiosity growls to himself. Left him behind, did they?! Oy, they'll never hear the end of this. He gazes up at the banister, backing up on his small hands before leaping up and forward to... hit shell first into the wood. Sharing April's discouragement, but adding in his own spite and anger, he backs up farther and tries again to reach the top.

Tiny feet scampering underneath his person, the daemon flies up through the air and.. catches on to the railing. During the flight, he tucked his head and limbs within his shell to be more compact, but at the impact they spun out again. Grateful for this unconscious decision, he scrambles for his footing on the old, rough wood.

Tia's head turned toward Halo and her own child. She'd heard of the pair, not having met them before, this year was just full of people.

Iqbal noticed another few newcomers. He stared to Otium's hat curiously and to April's shiney berret. Those were sure interesting things! Just like his anklet with teeth. He gave a soft coo with his curious smile and big eyes.

Halo waved to those who greeted her and hiked up Otium a bit higher.

"Immaculate why don't you get down on the floor and bond with the other...people and things?" She shook her shoulders a bit causing the bear to have to grip her nails into the woman's shirt.

"Ahh ow! Come on please?"

Taking the hint the daemon scrambled down her body, using her clothing to hang on to with her nails before she landed in a white furry heap on the floor. She shook off her coat and swished her tail, walking in a cirlce around Halo as the woman headed further in to place her son down with the other children.

Wren had all ready snagged his seat, wherever that was because that was simply something not thought about, and waved his hand at Halo when she came in. Smiling at her that way he was prone to smiling at her and just her.

Of course Mael raised blinked a bit when Frozen fell and squawked, all most scooting back and bringing up a hand to protect Suffocation, but then relaxed when it was apparent the bird was only trying to get back up onto his Forgotten. Then again, he was still focused on the hand that Eydis had previously outstretched and he crawled forward towards her, waving his free arm and hand at her. He gave a glance to see if Iqbal was going to come play, a garble of hisses and odd baby speak made in his direction.

Except Iqbal was distracted and that made him look towards his mother, who got a frowned and was passed over to look towards his brother. Mael giggled and waved towards Otium as he was set down, tail swishing happily.

"Snacks?" Wren raised an eyebrow, looking to the other grown Forgotten and her guardian, before gesturing for Halo to come over, chuckling at Immaculate's behaviour.

Bundled upon Eydis' shoulder once the conviction reached her that Mael intended to play, Frozen ruffled crossly. The first sight of fangs, and he'd... he'd damn well do something! Yes... something.

Lurching forward, the toddler assumed an odd figure, legs curled, the base of each foot lain pressing against the other, in front of her. As the other approached, she allowed her hands to drop to the floor, body leaning forward, and a look of playful glee etched on her cool features.

Pippin, in very much a flighty and "I CAN'T SIT STILL" mood, returns with freshly baked goodies. When he'd asked Maddy to make then, one wonders.. but none the less, he sets them down on the uneven coffee table and goes back for the drinks. The table's legs, brancing out into feet, bend slightly at what would be considered the knees. From what was, seconds earlier, its position on the floor, the table has moved, by one means or another, forward more than when one last looked at it.

At the top of the stairs, Curiosity prides himself at the great view he just gained. So much higher up here than even up on his April's head! Now, if he could just move down a little closer to the bottom, he could get a better view of everyone else..

No sooner had he slid a few steps forward did his feet fly from under him. Recoiling into his shell when he loses his footing, the daemon topples onto the back of his shell and begins a long and fear-filled journey.. sliding down the banister. Gaining speed, the tiny creature's normally buggy eyes remain shut and all parts tucked into his hard outside.

When the course runs thin, Curiosity is hurtled through the air. The object to stop his path turns out to be the large front door. With a chilling thud, April jolts to attention, looking very frightened by the possibility of the noise.

Mael paused when Eydis finally moved, his eyes resting on her and the moving to Frozen on her shoulder. He raised his arm, the one that Suffocation rested on, and looked to be trying to speak with her. There was a mixture of garbled attempted words and hisses that Suffocation echoed with her own.

They knew Eydis, had played with her on a number of occasions, and so she had to be all right. Not like the other older females or like the one that tried to hurt him. Though Frozen was something else and for now, both of them merely ignored the avian and went about crawling towards Eydis. Mael giggled, reaching out with his hand to pat Eydis's.

What to play ...

Tia raised an eyebrow to Pippin. He was quite upbeat today, like the day he handed her Iqbal. Then again, maybe she just wasn't used to his interesting quirks.

Iqbal eyed everyone. He could attempt crawling, maybe. He didn't want to move from his position though. There were so many people to play with ... he sat with a thoughtful look in his face furrowing his eyebrows. His ears twitched from the other noises he heard, as his tail swayed from side to side.

Fortune had wary of the biggest daemon had arrived. This one, she knew was going to be trouble. She was much bigger than the rest of them and posed a serious threat to Iqbal with her claws. She shuffled her way in front of Iqbal blinking her golden eyes.

Halo frowned when her other son gave her the look he did. She stepped over and sat Otium down next to Mael, resisting the urge to gently touch him on the head for fear he start to fuss or cry.

Otium took hold of his brother's tail when he got close, smiling his silent smile and tugging it gently before letting go. Apparently only he really got to touch the tail and even that was only when Mael was in a good mood.

Immaculate walked up and licked Mael on the cheek before she sniffed at Eydis a bit and yipped happily. Her nose twitched and the bear sniffed at the air to work her way over to Iqbal.

Halo walked over to her husband and kissed him gently before just sighing and saying nothing on the matter of Mael's uneasiness with her.

Fortune quickly went into her defensive stance. That big daemon was coming right for Iqbal! She prepared herself and squawked once as a warning.

Iqbal shook his head out of thought to peer down at Fortune. He looked up to see Immaculate. His eyes went wide with a happy glee. She was fuzzy! Like his coat! He squealed in delight having found something similar and shifted himself in her direction.

Fortune attempted to keep him away from this danger. How could he sense the danger of the claws, the size! She nipped at his coat. Iqbal continued to shift forward, trying to show Fortune that he was in no danger.

Tia smiled to Halo as she yawned, and sat between the others.

Immaculate's round ears twitched at the squawking of Fortune. Her nose twitched again and she stepped forward slowly to sniff at the little boy, doing her best to seem friendly to the other daemon.

Iqbal cooed as she sniffed him. He placed one hand on Immaculate's furry head, knowing not to cling to the fur but pat her head lightly. He gurgled happily feeling to softness of her fur.

Fortune sat warily eyeing this large daemon as she came closer, but seeing as she did not show any weapons or harm, Iqbal was safe ... for now.

Immaculate sniffed his hand again and since he seemed ok she licked his tiny fingers and allowed him to pet her. She eyed the other daemon and made a small yipping noise. Not a threat.

Mael giggled at the lick from Immaculate, Suffocation hissing at her in greeting. Of course, he was distracted from Eydis for a moment because of Otium's tug on his tail and he grinned that grin of his at his brother. Yes, he was in a happy mood -- one that involved not paying attention to those that he thought would bring him harm or trouble.

Wren smiled sadly at Halo, catching her hand and bringing it to his lips for a kiss before murming. "We'll get it sorted out somehow, but, you know, it's not just you, dear heart ..."

Halo just shrugged and nodded at her husband before putting on a smirk. "Didn't someone say something about food?"

Otium looked over at his daemon making new friends and he tuggd his brother's tail again as a signal to go meet this person. If his daemon liked Iqbal, he might too. After the tug Otium turned and crawled towards the small wolf boy, careful to make sure his oversized hat stayed on his head

Iqbal gasped in excitement as Forgotten were coming toward him. It was hard enough for him to crawl with his big coat. He waved his arms happily as Fortune scuttled back behind him, eyeing the other children.

Dear Journal,
Well! Yesterday was eventful indeed! Never have I seen so much Forgotten children in the same spot at one time.

I'm glad Iqbal finally met some others. For awhile I was beginning to think he was doomed to have no social life. Really. Anyhow, the two of them (Iqbal and Fortune) seem to be getting used to the fact of seeing me all the time. Fortune only bites me once a week, and not even that hard! There's some optimism for you. Iqbal is so adorable, he's been trying to control his tail, and just discovered how to control his ears. Fortune is always on constant guard.

Um, I think that's it. So more next time eh?

Wren was down in the actual Library of the HQ, towards the back where there was still mats and a few chairs scattered around for guardians, Forgotten, and daemons a like.

He had come to see if there was anyone around, wanting to get Mael out and about. ( Never mind inherent curiousity about the library. ) As it was, however, Mael was on his back on one of the mats, tail flicking about and letting Suffocation slither wherever she pleased across the length of the mats. He was trying to spy the shiny dark glowing thing that crept about in his father's shadow and clung to him.

Father wouldn't let him get a hold of it or that thing he was carting around in a little basket. Silly daddy ruining all his fun and paying attention to the book he was reading.

Tia was muttering something as she ran into the main HQ with Iqbal snug in a baby backpack with Fortune snug beside him.

"Phew!" she panted slowly turning into stalker hall.

"So, what exactly did I rush over her for again? there was a play date or some such ..." her foot tapped lightly as Iqbal squealed happy as he bounced around, while Fortune squawked.

There's an inhumane groan leaking from the left of the entrance. Someone - something? - is the source of it, but they can't be immediately seen upon entrance. Since Pippin hasn't quite fixed the lighting up properly, most rooms are completely pitch black without occupants. Strangely, in the same direction as the groan, there is a single light, perhaps cast by a flashlight from its size..

Tia froze up as she turned to the left. She raised an eyebrow to the light.
Iqbal stopped his squealing and looked towards it curiously, while Fortune tensed up her feathers and made a small squawk.

"I think we should see what it is Fortune ... you'll protect us if it tries to attack,"

Fortune squawked in approval crawling up to Tia's shoulder as Iqbal's ears twitched all around. The trio approached the light cautiously, but enough to try to see what was causing it, or where it lead to.

The light flickers for a moment, but returns to its place. The groaning is replaced with a softer muttering, though any type of words can't be made out even if someone was in range to hear.

However, only the three present can hear this. None, if there even were others, would notice a thing.

Upon closer examination, it would seem that the light and various confusing sounds originate from one simple doorway to the far left..

Tia paused for a moment, shifting Iqbal to the front incase anything were to jump out from behind, while Fortune stretched her neck forward from Tia's shoulder.

Upon finding that the light flickered and groaning was replaced, Tia decided a that this doorway, as though it was simple, may always lead to something much bigger.

"Let's go a bit further ..."

She walked slowly bit steadily getting closer to the doorway.

The light gets a little shaky before disappearing completely. A sound similar to that of rapid footsteps follows, as well as a faux shutting of a heavy door. The only light now remains to be a small, fading one at the base of the now clear staircase.

A bland door it is, just like all the rest save for a glass window at the top covering one third of the door itself. But to look inside would mean to get a little closer..

Iqbal's ears twitched at the sounds and eyed the area carefully. Fortune did make a sound, she scanned the place before landing on the simple door.

Tia cautiously made her way forward once more, hoping where ever this lead, wouldn't be to where she thought it was going. She held onto Iqbal tightly as Fortune scurried into Iqbal's coat for comfort, while Iqbal's eyes widened. Tia narrowed her eyes pressing forward.

The door falls open without even a touch on it. It just.. falls. There is no crash, nor is there any signs of light except the one earlier mentioned. Truthfully, the door slid into the walls, but cast the illusion of disappearing completely.

All the while, the walls seem to smile with pleasure.

To go down, or retreat?

Meanwhile, Wren was still reading his book and Mael was ever so slowly crawling his way towards his father's feet. The aim the shiny dark thing that clung to his father's shadow so.

That thing in the basket was just odd, so he ignored it and the fact that father talked to it and it didn't talk back. He looked towards Suffocation, as if asking a question and she merely hissed at him. Her head turned towards the shadows in the room and then Wren's.

... sometimes it was fun being perfectly oblivious, except that Hawk was letting Wren know that Mael was going after him again. "He can't honestly get you," he murmured, looking towards Mael and Suffocation. He sighed at the feeling of wariness he got from Hawk and shook his head.

Tia watched the door ... well sort of break or disappear, either way her reaction would have been the same.

"Dear god! I broke part of the house?!" Tia groaned as Iqbal giggled, and Fortune raised an eyebrow.

Iqbal clapped his hands happily as he pointed to go down.

"So now you laugh at mommy who breaks things hmm?"

She chuckled, hoping this wouldn't do any permanent damage to the old house. If Iqbal didn't sense any danger and neither did Fortune, then it seemed as though Tia would continue on downwards.

"I guess we're going to find out soon enough what's down there ..."

Once the victim is all the way through the doorframe, the same door parts jolt to life. They whiz across and slam with a threatening click of a lock, making the three prisoners to its intentions.

Only way to go now is down..

Tia held tightly onto Iqbal as he giggled whizzing around. Fortune squawked before silence came over them. Tia figured that the threatening lock sounded was like a cliche in the movies, that there was no where to go but forward.

"Erm, this house has the a tendency to play with your head,"

She whispered to herself as she went lower Iqbal jumping in his place with anticipation the whole way down.

The signature frosted doors, faintly decorated with vines and faded gold markings, stand at the end of the staircase, tall and proud. A single light bulb, flickering and threatening to give out, hands overhead. The handles are vines themselves, a large solid "leaf" at the thumb of them.

Within, there's a whole other world.

Iqbal bounced even more reaching out to touch the handle while Fortune squawked happily. Tia's hand touched the golden leaf handle and peered at her surroundings. She spoke with an arched eyebrow.

"A library?"

Somehow, Tiagra's voice manage to carry the distance to the back of the Library where Wren was. Even Mael tilted his head, distracted from the darkly shining gem, and looked towards the voice.

"Don't move, brat." He pointed a finger at Mael and saw that tongue flicker out briefly. Right, he could only hope Mael decided to not move. "Somebody there?" he called back, walking a bit, but not letting Mael out of his sight.

Tia crept into the library slowly admiring the colors and spacey area. She walked in casually upon hearing Wren's voice, and replied back.

"Wren? ... It's Tia."

Oh. Well, Tia -- then again, Wren knew it had to be one of the other guardians, but he wasn't sure that Tiagra had ever made it into the library. After all, Iqbal wasn't originally hers to look after.

"Um, just keep heading towards the back," he responded, "there's a cleared area for the kiddies back here." Pausing, he turned around to make sure Mael was still on the mat ( and he was, but intently watching Hawk ). "More proper greeting when we're face to face."

... he really was going to have to sort out this thing about Mael and trying to grab his shadow.

"Right," she chuckled edging in deeper into th library until she saw Wren. With a small wave of her hand she walked over to them Iqbal giddy as ever when he saw Mael. Fortune was glad as well, since her job would be easy with only the serpent and child to observe.

Both Mael and Suffocation focused on Fortune before only Suffocation's attention was on the gryphon type avian and Mael's was on Iqbal. Tiagra was mainly ignored, Mael scooting back on the mat and then patting the ground with his hand and letting Suffocation slither off.

"'Lo you." Wren grinned at Tia, ignoring the nudge of curiousity he got from Hawk who had gone to hide in his shadow near his feet. "Finally made it into the Library, I see."

Tiagra took Iqbal out of the baby backpack she had him in, since his squirming permitted her to, and placed him on the mat sitting up while his clapped his hands together. Fortune hopped out of it onto the floor following Iqbal's movements.

"Yes, quite interesting way to find this place, I almost thought I'd done something wrong in the beginning," she gave a small laugh sitting in a nearby chair.

Fortune was given a wary look from both the baby and the daemon, but after a moment Mael and Suffocation started to move again. They shared a moment of speaking to one another before the baby smiled and waved his hand at Iqbal. He giggled, but Suffocation seemed to show the wariness that both still had.

"Mm. Let me guess, was it music? Or light? Or something else? Door's probably locked now, but it'll open back up it a bit most likely so we can leave." Wren shook his head, hands going into his pockets.

Iqbal leaned forward touching his toes again ears twitching at the giggles. His tail flicked a bit as he tried to get control. Fortune gave a bored look resting beside Iqbal's side.

"Actually, it was light, then a door sort of disappeared and I found myself going downwards till I reached the next door which lead me here," she gave another small smile scratching her head, "It locks people in here? How wonderful."

"Er, well, when I first came down here with Naita and Kam, the door locked shut behind us. ... then the mysterious light." Wren scrunched up his nose and then shook his head. "Stairs and all that business. Honestly, I can see how people miss the way down here, but ... well. The Library probably helps." Cue creepy feeling that the place they were in was alive in some way.

It was amazing, Mael's attention was no longer on Hawk that was in Wren's shadow. No, he was focused on Iqbal and those ears of his. After all, he still hadn't gotten a chance to really look at them and he slowly started to crawl forward, regardless of the fact that Suffocation didn't think it too wise. He was inching closer and closer and trying to reach those fuzzy ears ...

"Maybe people aren't willing to follow eerie things as we were? I mean I thought it was the swamp thing trying to catch me back there," she felt a shiver down her spine glancing behind her for a moment.

Iqbal tilted his head to Mael and gave a little gasp of excitement as he edged closer. He wanted to touch that funny stuff he always wore. It was boring to touch his clothes all the time. He gave a small coo. Fortune curled up into a small ball on the mat attempting to sleep.

"Who knows." Wren tapped his finger against his cheek now, eyes watching the walls, seeing they were like to suddenly move like the door he remembered. Then again, Pippin's office was somewhere around here. "I mean, this place seems old and ..." He shrugged, trailing off. There was simply something in the air here that was magic. Much like the babies and that one book. "Though I've never felt chased."

Suffocation hissed at Mael, trying to make him not go near the wolf child and the avian daemon, but Mael just let out a garble of baby speak and went on forward. He finally managed to get close enough that he raised his hand up to get touch the tip of one ear with a hand. Fuzzy ears. He giggled, smiling that impish smile of his.

"True, the saying, 'things are what they seem' comes to mind," she paused to glance a look to Iqbal before continuing, "Perhaps it all lays in the babies? I've heard stories of how they were born,"

"Ehgoo..." Iqbal cooed, as his ears twitched at the touch. He gave a small reach for Mael's shirt patting it lightly with his small fingers. Iqbal gurgled at Mael's giggles and smiled back to him. Fortune's head poked up with a raised eyebrow. She didn't understand why they wanted to play with each other that way ... but as long as Iqbal wasn't in danger or hurt, it wasn't of much concern to her.

Wren gestured to a chair, since he was going to sit down, eyes glancing to the babies briefly. Besides, he had the nut that was there too to look after. Never mind Hawk still clinging to his shadow. "Maybe, who knows? I mean, I didn't see how they came to be. Just that we came in here, ended up picking out a book, and then Pippin lead us into his office to speak and when we came out, there were three babies and three daemons in place of the books and excerpts with them."

This wasn't actually playing to Mael. No, playing would be with the toys that were around on the mats, but the fuzzy ears made him curious. He paused in his movements when Iqbal patted his shirt and looked at him before giggling. Suppose it was fair, since he was looking at the ears. His tail swished happily and he petted the fuzzy ears much like he did to Immaculate's. Suffocation, if she could've, probably would've rolled her eyes.

"Maybe that's why they are close then?" Tia gestured towards the two Forgotten, "Being born on the same day ... or something to that effect, though that does seem interesting, their excerpt must have more to do with the big picture ..."

Iqbal's eyes darted from the inanimate shirt to that swishing tail. He had a tail too, but he couldn't move it like that. It was so interesting! his small hands tumbled down attempting to snag a bit of the tail, attempting to balance himself with his heavy coat. Fortune sighed keeping one eye open as the other closed.

"... did Kam give you his excerpt?" Wren asked, looking at the Feien bloom and then satisfied it was okay he smiled up at Tiagra. "As for the closeness? Perhaps, but Mael went after Iqbal's ears last time they were together. The excerpts, though? In some ways, my dear, it is probably best they do not pertain to our charges."

Iqbal moving meant that Mael lost the fuzzy ears and he frowned, letting out a quiet hiss. His tail continued to swish and twitch, particularly when hands tried to grab it. Blinking red eyes, Mael watched Iqbal with a curious look. Suffocation merely slithered somewhere to find a comfortable vantage point, watching and keeping an eye on her Forgotten.

"I'm not sure, perhaps it's with Iqbal's belongings somewhere, or hidden in that coat that he won't let me touch," she chuckled, "Ah his ears. Iqbal's been attempting to control is tail, so he's probably envious of Mael's ability. Hmm well, perhaps it's best not to think too much ahead and enjoy the ride there,"

Iqbal furrowed his eyebrows as the tail jumped away from him every time he tried to reach it. He sat up a bit flustered touching hi_ toes again giving a sigh and a gurgle.

"There's all ways something the brats," though Wren said that affectionately, "won't let you mess with. Though with Mael that's anything at any given time." He snorted. "Mm, I don't know what it is. Mael doesn't hold back, well ..." Wren shook his head, not wanting to talk about the incident with Nora, because Mael did hold back now. "Ahem. I don't think Mael has complete control over his tail, more like it has a mind of it's own, but he can do things with it. When I carry him, he likes to wrap it around my arm. And, yes, enjoy the ride. You know the saying, all good things and whatnot."

Mael giggled, amused at how Iqbal couldn't just seem to get a grip on his tail. He squirmed a bit, trying to change how he was sitting, and his tail swished, just resting there and not moving.

"Heh. Well, he seems very possessive over keeping that fur on. I have no idea why though ... I haven't even found out what kind of fur it is," Tia didn't pay attention to Wren switching so suddenly, "Oh, I see. Iqbal's got that small furry wolf tail. For the past few days he's been trying to move it on his own, it's quite funny to watch his attempts,"

Iqbal's ears twitched as Mael's tail flickered around. It was as if he was teasing him so he couldn't touch it. That wasn't fair! He got to touch his ears! Iqbal leaned forward more narrowing his eyes onto the tail attempting to pounce on it, wiggling his tail. He ended up with a thump, but nonetheless get to touch the smooth tail. He bobbed back and forth happily clapping his hands.

Tia stared a bit oddly to Iqbal. "Well. He's never pounced anything before."

"Well, have you tried asking him nicely to let you look at it, perhaps?" Wren chuckled, shaking his head. "You can all way_ try that. A wolf tail, hm?" he asked, tilting his head to one side to look and catch a glimpse at Iqbal's tail. "I'm sure if he's determined, he'll get it eventually." He ended up chuckling more.

The odds were, there really was teasing going on. Mael just giggled and smiled that mischievous smile of his while Iqbal moved about. At the attempted pounce though, he all most fell backwards trying to get away, but he ended up staying his ground. Particularly when Iqbal ended up clapping his hands. So, wait, he was just trying to touch his tail? Nothing else. Mael turned his head to look at Suffocation, who let out a soothing hiss. The tail, proving it did have a mind of it's own continued to move about and eventually, moved and curled briefly around Iqbal's ankle.

"... well, at least it's cute?" Wren shook his head. "At least Mael did try to crawl away or anything afterwards." There were those worries again, but he shoved them to the back of his mind.

"Or maybe when he's asleep. At least the duo is beginning to trust me more, I felt that there would be that void where Kam was ..." she answered softly trailing off, "Yes, when he gets a bit older and more aware of his actions," she smiled at the thought.

Iqbal looked curiously to the tail, watching it curl around his ankle. He didn't exactly knew what it meant, but it felt ticklish and he giggled smiling with his bi-colored eyes, his tail swishing. He leaned his head over for Mael to touch his ears who twisted in opposite directions.

"It is cute," she laughed, "Mael's a cute one too, especially with those little smiles,"

"Well, be careful of doing it when he's asleep. You wouldn't want him to wake up with you returning or taking it." Wren smiled faintly, reaching out and patting Tiagra's shoulder. "I'm sure that there probably is, but now that you're taking care of him, you'll help to fix that, no?" He smiled a little more widely. "I honestly can't wait to see the kids get bigger. All the girls have, but that's no surprise."

Mael's tail was smooth, the skin warm, but there was obviously strength in it, particularly when it curled completely around Iqbal's tail and squeezed slightly before loosening. It went right back to flicking every so often in movements. Mael turned his attention back to Iqbal after being reassured by Suffocation and smiled again, giggling because Iqbal did and those ears were nearby. So, of course, he reached out to play with them again.

"They're both cute, but that could be me." There was an amused grin on his face now. "And those smiles may be cute, but watch it, they can be just as mischievous."

"Yes. If I'm correct and he has some wolf blood in him, my hand may be his new chew toy," she smiled and nodding to Wren, "Yes, I just hope Kam will be ok, she seemed so torn at that time," she sighed shrugging, "Heh, yes it'll be interesting to see what comes out of their mouths,"

Iqbal's eyes followed the tail suspiciously and gave a small giggle as it squeezed his ankle. He had an interesting time following its movements though. It was like a little animal. Iqbal cooed again at being petted on the ears. He couldn't exactly reach them himself to scratch, and this was the best he could get.

"Heh that's also true," she chuckled, "Ah the mischievous type then? I'm sure with that smirk he'll get out of any trouble,"

"Perhaps try a teething ring or something along that line? You know, those rings that are filled with water? Stick it in the freezer for a little while and then take it out and give it to him to chew on. See if that contents him." Wren rubbed his neck, shaking his head. "Honestly, I'm sad to hear that Kam could no longer take care of Iqbal. I mean ..." He shook his head again, obviously a sign that he just didn't know what to say.

Since Iqbal didn't seem to mind, Mael kept playing with the ears. Tugging on one a bit, testing. There were all ready wheels turning in his mind, little things that he probably wouldn't remember when older. Mael honestly hadn't been getting out a lot and the fact that he was getting to play with something that made him curious and there was no danger meant he was going to enjoy it. Never mind Suffocation was keeping an eye out for him and father was near by. ... the woman, he ignored. His tail slunk back and continued to move about.

"I worry for when Mael becomes a toddler. I don't know if I'd be able to survive." Wren said, purposely being over dramatic. "Mm, that's bad, you realize? He gets out of things because he's too cute. I have no resistance."

"Yes, teething rings sound good. If it gets to the point of sharp cuspids ... I'm going to have to get out some bones," she amused herself with the thought as she nodded, "Ah well, that's alright. She said she'd visit once in a while, and if it's making an effort I'm pretty much content with the decision,"

Iqbal's ears twitched again at the sound of Tia's voice and 'bones', but he could let his eyes off the tail. It was mesmerizing him, before he blinked at the tug. No he liked to be scratched. Fortune tugged at his ears when she wanted something. He shook his head lightly in displeasure to Mael for him to try something else. A thought crossed Iqbal. Where was Fortune? Fortune squawked lightly as she was examining Iqbal's actions at the tail. she pranced over to him, avoiding Suffocation and sitting like a small puppy.

Tia laughed at his drama, "Ah. If he'll be like that who knows what they could do as a duo. It'd be bad for both of us. Little partners in crime,"

"Mm, well, Mael's got fangs. Teething rings didn't stand up to his teeth -- but one of my shirts did." Wren rolled his eyes and sighed. "Not that he really makes it a practice to bite and chew all that much." He tilted his head to look at Tia, fingers absently nudging the little basket with the nut. "Well, I'm glad things worked out for Iqbal and Kam. Really."

Mael was happily ignoring both the adults, only focused on Iqbal and Suffocation when she crossed his mind. At the reaction to the tug, he let out a quiet hiss, and went back to scratching. So tugging wasn't good, but scratching was. That was fine. Of course Fortune coming closer and watching his tail made him pause his scratching. He stared at her for a moment, wondering how much of a threat she was. Iqbal seemed just fine, but Fortune was something else.

"... ugh, not another partner in crime duo. I don't think I'd survive." There was a smile on his lips anyway, though. "We'll just have to see as they grow up, hm?"

"Oh my, I think I should get him a little playhouse. It'd be idle for playing or ... destroying," she gave a wary laugh, "Thank you, really. I'm sure Iqbal will be happy. What have you got there?" she pointed to the nut curiously.

Iqbal's tail tapped lightly as he cooed sticking a bit of his pink tongue out in reply to the scratches. It almost felt like he was in a daze that the scratching that spot made him feel better. He nestled his head forward to switch ears. Iqbal looked to Fortune babbling a bit, when the scratching stopped. Fortune gave a small squawk before returning beside Tia's leg. Iqbal tried to reassure Mael that she was just overprotective.

"Heh, though yes, their characters will develop more as they get older."

"Them being happy is all we can hope for, right? Since we're like parents and everything ..." Wren glanced down at the nut and then gave Tia a sheepish grin. "It was something of a gift. It's, um, a Feien. Except ... it's a nut right now, until it comes out of it's shell." He nudged the basket in her direction so that she could get a better look, but otherwise watched the group on the mats carefully. "It's something to look forward to, however, them getting older and coming into their own."

Suffocation had stilled just as Mael had, but watching Fortune. Red and black eyes all most unblinking. When Fortune finally moved away, Mael started to scratch again slowly, not exactly sure of what Iqbal's reassurances. After all, in his mind, birds were nothing but trouble. All kinds at that. There was a frown on his face and he let out a quiet garble baby-speak, a sign of his wariness, but he scratched since Iqbal's ears were right there.

"Yes, I guess it is," she eyed the nut carefully, "Ooo looks interesting," she looked dup to Wren, "Getting older, it's hard to imagine how they would be,"

Iqbal gave more of a happy gasp his tail thumping thoroughly enjoying the scratch, until he heard Mael, in which he lifted his head up to babble something else looking him in the eyes. He felt his toes again as he gave a small giggle. He didn't want his friend to be sad over Fortune. They could play a new game.

"I'm just curious about what the little creature will look like," Wren snorted, stretching his arms out a little and rolling his head from side to side. "Well, I'm not much of a seer, so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see." Of course, at the mention of seer, Hawk sent Wren a wordless message of amusement, glowing faintly from his shadow.

Mael all most fell forward some, trying to scoot around to see what was _causing the thumping noise. Of course, when Iqbal tried to speak back, it wasn't like he really understood, but the bird was away and he didn't have to worry about it. Suffocation was watching and his father wouldn't let him get hurt, never mind Iqbal seemed to be trying to reassure him. He scratched the ears still before pulling his hands back and this time really trying to get a look at what was causing the thumping noise.

"Ah, I see, a little fairy like creature is supposed to pop up then? I've seen a few others, but with blooms ..."

Iqbal tilted his head and looked at Mael curiously. He managed to get his talon the side of him. Iqbal eyed it sheepishly. That little tail of his. He'd been trying to catch it for so long and couldn't do it. It thumped in it's place oddly. Iqbal resisted the urge to pounce on it. Fortune didn't know why the pair were glaring at her. She had thought the Serpent was an equal, perhaps she didn't know she did something to upset them. she sat on her stomach, letting her head rest on her paws.

"Yeah, Val, the feien Halo looks after, was a bloom too. The fact this one is a nut is kind of unique, I think." Wren sighed a bit, shaking his head at the behaviour Mael and Suffocation were showing towards Fortune. At least it wasn't as bad as what he was expecting from Frozen, but still ... "I hope Fortune won't be too offended by how Mael and Suffocation are acting towards her. Not sure they can help it."

Mael just looked at the tail before reaching out and tugging on it once, softly, before letting go. Iqbal looked like he was trying to get it himself. Could he hand it to him, perhaps? Suffocation merely lowered her head back down, tongue flickering out every so often and turned her attention back to Mael and the pup.

Tia glanced down to Fortune, petting her on the head. "Nah, I think she knows to stay her ground. She's just overprotective," she replied taking in the information, "They do sound odd, little Fairy's coming from nuts and all,"

Fortune accepted the pet, feeling a bit better keeping her spot. Iqbal's eyes widened. He caught his tail! How did he do that? His tail swished away, as Iqbal turned his head following it with his plump cheeks, flexing his fingers toward it, as if to grab.

"Well, no, that's not it." Wren sighed, hands spread flat across the top of the table. "That day that you took Freyr out with you, Suffocation was injured by a parrot." He looked towards Suffocation, still amazed that there was hardly a mark to show where she had been injured. "They've been wary of birds since."

Mael blinked, trying to figure out just what Iqbal was doing. Did he want to grab his tail too, was that it? But ... it was short, or, well, not long like his own. He looked at the tail and then at Iqbal, all most as if he was at a lost with figuring out how to help the other grab it.

"Oh," Tia paused to look at Suffocation for a moment, "Ah, any birds at all? Even mixed like gryphons?" Fortune's ears were intent listening. While she didn't understand most of the conversation, she perked up at the words birds and wary and put them together. She let out a small sigh watching the two boys.

Iqbal cooed as he attempted to touch his tail. Why couldn't anyone understand that it was fluffy. Fluffy had to be touched. His tail thumped along to the other side of him as he rocked from side to side flustered, trying to catch it.

"It seems to be any bird." Wren bit the inside of his cheek in thought before shaking his head once more. "It was the neighbor's parrot. The thing got it's claws into Suffocation and ended up hurting both her and Mael. ... the noise he made was something else." Suffocation was barely paying any attention to Wren, but at the mentioning of her name and the look in her direction she was alerted and looked back at him before turning back to the pup and Mael.

No, things were about the fuzzy stuff, not fluffy things. Mael patted Iqbal's tail, before crawling around and trying to figure out what it was Iqbal was trying to go. His tail flicked from one side to another. So Iqbal wanted to play with his own tail, was that it?

Tia gave a small gulp, not even wanting to imagine what it had really been like for the duo. "That sounds pretty bad, I'm glad they're fine though," Fortune ruffled her feathers momentarily getting a glance in from one golden eye to Iqbal.

Iqbal felt his tail being touched. He did it again! This friend could touch his tail twice already, and yet he couldn't even touch it once in so long! He tried to turn his head to watch his own tail swishing out of range, but it was still, and the perfect opportunity; he would catch it now. He directed his energy to pouncing to the right of him before he found himself turned over facing Mael. He had just turned in a circle again. Blast it! It got away again! He gave a disgruntled coo tapping the floor with his hands.

"... well, they are, but things changed." Wren sighed, not really wanting to think about the fact that Halo was still unable to get near Mael or any other female for that matter. He didn't seem to harbor any trust for them and Suffocation wasn't much better. Birds and his own mother. It wasn't good. "I'm just happy the neighbor left well enough alone."

Mael only blinked his eyes at Iqbal, who looked to be chasing his own tail. He tail flicked over nearby to Iqbal's hands. Since he couldn't get a hold of his own, then he hold his? For a moment at least. He smiled and giggled, trying to understand, but not at the same time.

Changes can be good, yes?" Tia answered hopefully, not sure of the big picture, but informed enough to know it wasn't an easy subject. "Ah, well at least there's a good to the bad."

Iqbal looked over to Mael's tail. Well it was a good substitute, it had a nice smooth texture, ah well, he'd catch it ... sometime. For now, he slid his hands of the smooth tail giggling from Mael's giggles smiling.

"Changes are good, but this is one of those ones forced changes that shouldn't have come now. At least there's all was some bad and then some good." Wren hid the frown he felt like letting show on his face. "Just, um, don't be surprised if Mael doesn't pay any attention to you or anything. Nora, my neighbor with the pet, she kind of shook him enough with her behaviour around him because of her bird's death that he's not too fond of adults -- mainly women." A complete explanation would take longer and most likely coffee or something. Then again, his mind flitted to Halo and the fact that she couldn't even come close to Mael came to mind.

Mael's tail twitched and swished in Iqbal's grasp, occasionally curling around his fingers and hands and then letting go. See? It was much better to hold his tail than chase the fluffy one for now. Mael continued to smile that smile of his and reached out to pat Iqbal. In the back of his mind, Suffocation was most likely giving him a small nudge as to how silly he was.

Tia glanced over to Mael momentarily. "I understand ... I wouldn't force him into doing anything ... especially of having an incident that turned him away from women completely. There's still hope for a change in mind as he gets older though?"

Iqbal giggled at the tail very happily. He hadn't had this much fun even with Fortune! His fingers wiggled as Mael's tail felt ticklish against his soft skin. Iqbal twitched his ears in agreement, since at the moment his hands were a bit busy. He brushed his cheek against his tail to see if that would feel funny too.

"Well, I hope so. I mean, he doesn't acknowledge women if he can help it and deities help if one tries to touch him." Wren finally did frown, but smiled at his son's giggles. "I'm hoping that it at least changes, because he won't let Halo get near him and she's his mother." He went silent for a moment before he rubbed his hand across his face. "I just realized ... I never even thought about his excerpt during all of this." Then there was a sheepish grin on his face. "Er, um, sorry, I think. For rambling on like I am ..."

Mael's tail was smooth, the skin soft, but somewhat tough, and it was very warm to the touch much like the baby. Mael was trying to squirm around to get a look at Iqbal, ignoring the quiet nudges from Suffocation, and smiled again. Now that felt odd, his tail rubbed against a cheek. No one had done that before ...

"Ah ... well, I'm sure he can learn to trust a mother, since it's that maternal instinct and all ..." she chuckled at Iqbal and his actions, "Ah, the excerpt. Well I wouldn't be surprised if something was in there ... and don't worry, I ramble all the time,"

Iqbal cooed from the warmness, and giggled at the tail on his cheek. He pulled away sitting up again smiling some redness in his face from being warm, but a few more giggles escaped him again.

"Rather, can maternal instinct stand up to it?" Wren hoped so, since Halo was giving him looks and they were starting to get more and more, well. He cut off his line of thought. "Mm. Well, Mael's excerpt? It involved being betrayed by a woman. I should've clicked sooner."

Mael just smiled his little mischievous smile and let Iqbal play with his tail, squirming and shifting. He was trying to go for those ears again -- because they were far more interesting than the dark glowing thing in father's shadow and the toys around.

"Well there are pretty powerful women out there," she chuckled to herself before looking back to Wren, "Ah, well that would explain it,"

Iqbal looked to Mael's face curiously with wide eyes. His ears went outward in opposite directions as he gurgled to himself from the tail again. It was a pretty interesting tail ... unlike his who was mean to him. His fuzzy ears twitched from some small sounds Fortune was making in her sleep.

"So, so not going to comment." Wren laughed, cheeks going red briefly. "But I guess that explains some part of it, except that ... er. Well, I'll just have to let you know the complete excerpt sometime." Then she'd understand why, exactly, he was wary about it. "I'm sure he'll change his opinions as he gets older though ... Nothing lasts forever."

Mael's tail was flexible, all most like the baby himself, who was trying to contort one way or another and finally managed to sit so that Iqbal had his tail ( which curled around his wrist again and brushed his cheek since it was being held ) and he could reach out for those ears. The tips of his fingers brushed against once, a hiss from Suffocation distracting him for a moment. Ah, so that bird was asleep ... That was good.

Tia laughed along with him. "I'm glad. And I'm sure I'll let you see Iqbal's ... once I found out where it is he hid it. And yes, nothing does last forever."

Iqbal cooed again as the smooth tail wrapped around his finger. His eyes glanced up to Mael's hand and he smiled gently tilting his wars forward to him.

"... actually, I kind of remember Iqbal's." Wren gave Tiagra another sheepish grin. "A while back, the first time Mael and Iqbal really got to be around one another, Kam and myself read their excerpts to each other. His, um, I remember bits of it ..." He shrugged, then nodded with her words.

Mael let out a hiss, something of a giggle mingled with it. He was probably going to roll out those s's of his when he was older because of his fangs, among other things. He leaned and reached, finally getting the ear and let out a triumphant squeal before petting. Suffocation let out her own hiss. Really. Hadn't he been more interested in toys and shiny things earlier?

"Oh? Do you? He hasn't shown any signs of anything dramatic yet ... so he probably isn't too heavily influenced by anything ... but you never know."

Iqbal giggled at Mael's squee shuffling his coat, when a small piece of paper flew out landing next to Fortune. Tia looked down and picked up the small paper. "Ah, what do you know, it was in his coat."

Iqbal didn't even seem to notice the excerpt fall from his coat. He was much too content on Mael patting his ears that give him a relief from trying to pet them himself. His tail thumped softly behind him.

"Something about a woman and blood, I think? I can't remember exactly." Wren tilted his head, lifting himself up a little to look up over at Tia and the piece of paper in her hands.

Mael's eyes cut to the paper, simply because it was something that had appeared. He was quickly distracted by the thumping of Iqbal's tail and continued petting the ears. He couldn't tug on them, right? Well, maybe later he'd see what else he could do ... Letting out his own brand of garbled baby speak he looked elsewhere on the mat towards the left over baby toys. Hmm.

Tia read aloud, "The valley bottom was perfectly still and the gnarled bones had been covered by the snow. But as he crept towards the rock, he stopped. The snow was stained with blood, a little red stream snaking out from the edge of the stone. The fortune teller was lying on her side and the snow about her body was covered in prints." Tia shivered a bit from the morbid thoughts on the paper, before glancing over to Iqbal.

Iqbal cooed happily again at being petted before he followed Mael to the baby toys. What was he going to do now?

Wren shook his head, fingers tugging a few stands of hair that had fallen into his face. "Yeah," he said, as if that explained everything and nothing at the same time. "... Mael's wasn't much better or brighter, for that matter." But with where his mind was going, it wasn't best to think about it. "As I said before, one can hope they don't reflect upon the children.'

Mael reached with one hand and nudged one of the letter blocks towards Iqbal. Hello, PLAY. What else was one suppose to do? His tail swished and flicked.

"Yes, hopefully it won't shape their lives," she whispered, still a bit wary of the paper in which she would have to relate back to time and time again.

Iqbal gave a small smile and picked up a letter block stacking one in the middle. He had never played with blocks ... because he had never found them too interesting.

"It's just a piece of paper, honestly. If it ties to their lives, it ties to their lives ..." Wren ignored the nudge from Hawk and stared at the feien bloom he was charged with. After a moment, his attention focused on Mael who seemed intent to stack all the blocks up somehow and Iqbal who didn't seem too interested. "Besides, if it does, it's a story right? Who says you can't do a rewrite? Or they can't?"

Mael was hardly paying attention to his father or the woman or Suffocation who was still trying to get his attention. Instead, he was playing with the blocks and attempting to get Iqbal to as well. Because, honestly, the best thing about playing with blocks was the way they came crashing down.

Tia had decided that today would finally be the day that Iqbal would meet a girl forgotten. Of course Iqbal couldn't care less who he played with as long as they had something fluffy or shiny.

"So Iqbal, today you're going to meet another Forgotten! and I'm sure you two will get along just fine," Tia spoke in whispers to Iqbal, who was on her hip staring up at the ceiling, which he had just discovered. Fortune, sad on Tia's shoulder as usual to see all and to protect Iqbal, from this newcomer she had heard so much about.

Her pace quickened as she finally turned into the house sweeping in from the kitchen first, then traveling into the living room, where she placed Iqbal on the rug.

Sat idly upon the floor in a flurry of colours and fabrics, Naita clung to her young wards tiny hands, helping her make a few unsteady steps across the carpet. She was by no means ready to walk unaided, but the first attempts to learn had begun, and Eydis was often found pulling herself along some object or another.
Collapsing happily into her adoptive mother?s masses of petticoats, the toddler giggled quietly, thoroughly enjoying the attention, and the time away from her tormentor.

Frozen watched this all from his perch atop Lady Siri's head, eyeing his tiny mistress as she frolicked about the muslin skirts, buried in a mass of blue fabric.

Rousing from their play at the sound of newcomers, the trio looked up to greet the others, Naita with a polite nod, Frozen with a distrusting glare, and Eydis with her usual mixture of hopeful smiles and unsure eyes.

Iqbal's eyes wandered onto Eydis curiously. She was blue! He liked that color, and she had something funny on her forehead! What was that? He didn't have anything there ...

Iqbal hands touched the floor leaning forward, his ears twitching as he cooed. Fortune on the other hand peered at Frozen from Tia's shoulder. It was that crazy avian again. She had to be wary of this one either making a fool of himself, or when making a fool of himself ending up hurting Iqbal.

Tia nodded to Naita with a smile before speaking. "She trying to walk already?"

Nodding once more as Tiagra spoke, Naita's features broke into a grin.
"Aye. Time flies, doesn't it?"

Eydis, meanwhile, eyed the approaching canine. He was younger than her, seemingly a doubtful threat. Then again, Breena was younger than him, and hurt her.
She was curious about those ears, that tail, but kept her countenance, staring at him silently. If he was, indeed, worthy of trust, he would prove it of himself.

"It does, I remember delivering her gifts and seeing her when she was always bundled up,"

Iqbal tilted his head babbling something to himself as he reached forward to touch his toes rocking forward gently. His ears still flicked around, as well as his tail, he knew that he could usually get people to come toward him because of them. He looked up to Eydis, giving her a gummy smile.

At this remembrance, Naita had a strong urge to bundle Eydis in her arms, snuggling her like the baby that would always stick in her memory.
"Her swaddling cloths are a thing of the past now, she is growing faster than I expected."

Head tilting curiously to one side, Eydis gingerly reached one hand out, her way of indicating she was ready to allow the other to come near her. She was still not entirely sure, but had not yet learned enough distrust not to thaw reasonably quickly.

Tia agreed, chuckling, "Yes, she is turning into a fine little girl,"

Oh? Did she want to play? That shiny thing on her forehead was very pretty. Iqbal rocked himself forward until he landing on all fours. He gave a gurgle before crawling slowly and awkwardly toward Eydis, attempting to regain his balance and sit in front of her. A few disgruntled coos emitted as he narrowed his eyebrows pushing back and landing on his bottoms to finally see Eydis up close.

Knowing this information already did not cease a grin from once more spreading across Naita's even features, eyes dancing.
"She is, is she not? I think she shall be quite a beauty, with time."

A soft laugh gurgling forth at Iqbal's disjointed movements, Eydis stretched forward from her place amongst the frills of Lady Siri's skirts. His ears really were quite intriguing...

"I agree. Fending off the boys," she laughed at the mental image popping up into her head.

Iqbal looked at Eydis with a dumbfounded expression. He stared at her forehead wanting to touch that shiny thing. He attempted to raise a hand, but he got stuck half-way because of his heavy coat. He huffed softly waiting for her to edge closer.

Boys? Oh no, boys were not to come near her baby until LONG after Naita was dead.
"I believe I may have to have my butler act as her bodyguard, should the boys prove... more than friendly in their intent."

Eydis, head cocked once more, eyed the little boy's coat curiously. Could he even move in that thing? Shuffling forward, she again raised her hand, inviting him to play.

Tia grinned sheepishly. "I'm sure Iqbal could help ... once he gets out of his cute phase,"

Iqbal managed to lift up the coat long enough to touch Eydis's forehead curiously before pulling away. He giggled happily. He touched the shiny thing! It was smooth too! His hands clapped as his tail swished and his ears twitched.

Eyes questioning as the little boy grasped the crystal of her circlet, she attempted to scoot closer to him. Why had he played with the trinket she barely noticed?

"Another bodyguard? Of that I would be very appreciative!"

Iqbal tilted his head with another small smile. The thing was very pretty. He noticed Eydis's eyes were blue for the first time too ... and how soft her hair looked. He wiggled his toes wondering how to play with this friend.

"I'm sure if Iqbal grows into a fierce fighter he would help out," she smiled stroking her chin in thought.

Eydis, too, wondered at what games to play with this little wolf-boy, before alighting on a possibility. Reaching into a well-concealed pocket in her cape, she brought out a tiny ball and rolled it towards the other infant.

Stifling a chuckle at the image of a babe fighting, Naita merely nodded at the other adult, smiling.

Dear Journal,
Today ... well it was kind of scary actually. Up until now, I always thought that the 'Library' was a myth in the old house. But, when I entered today, I ended up finding a path to it and down along a staircase where I met up with Wren.

I could have sworn that it was going to eat me.

Anyway, Iqbal and Mael had a playdate today, they're becoming really close I think, or from what I could tell from their giggles. Iqbal also ... pounced today. It was oddly cute, I'm really beginning to think he's got more wolf than baby in him.

Oh yeah ... I finally found Iqbal's fabled excerpt. It fell out from his coat, it was actually quite disturbing. But, happy thoughts right? Wren and I were talking about the excerpts and what they may hold ... but we laid off it since we'd come to that path when it came up.

Last but not least ... Iqbal's attached to that coat of his. He won't let me touch it or try and take it off.

I'll write more on Eydis's and Iqbal's encounters in another entry.

More of Iqbal and my adventures to come. See ya.

- Tia
