Fretting, he shuffled his feet, making the grasses hiss in protest. But after the silence had stretched long enough that he was sure the very air would crack under the strain, the dreamy mare asked a very nonchalant question, almost as if... she hadn't noticed the awkward silence? It made him pause for a moment, stunned by the notion that if the other person was at ease, maybe it wasn't such an awkward moment after all? Confused, he covered by snatching a mouthful of grass himself, not even tasting it in his hurry to appear 'normal'.
"Not especially large, no," he finally managed to answer her. "I have a sister, my parents, and my half-brother." He drifted off in thought, considering his family. "There are others, of course... but I don't generally think of them as family." The were too often gone, or simply never were there at all. He didn't mention that this section of family was also of kalona blood. No point in scaring the mare, after all! Who would want kalonas in the family??
This stirred him to ask her in his turn, "What sort of family would you have if you could?" He tipped his head to the side, his curled mane swinging gently. "Sisters? Brotehrs? A bigger family? Smaller?" His eyes focused on some point in the distance. "Perhaps be related to some royalty? A long lost princess, all unknowing?" There he went again!

Her blue ears pricked as she grazed some of the grasses, listening to the purple male and his description of his family. Sister, half-brother and parents. But then he mentioned having others - perhaps relatives? - but ones he didn't quite know.
Allegedly she had relatives out there too, or so she'd just been told! Exactly who or what or where she truly couldn't say but apparently her family was larger than the five of them she was so used to. Someday she'd like to run in to these relatives, just so she could say she had them and knew them, buuuut. . . sometimes things weren't meant to be.
"I know what's it's like to have others t-t-to," she mentioned with a little grin, braided locks in her tail swishing lazily behind her. "B-b-ut I've never m-m-met them. Not yet at l-l-least." She gave a shrug of her shoulders, though her aqua eyes remained bright. "Someday!" She decided with a silly grin. And oh, if Eponine had her way she surely would!
At the question, not entirely asking about her family itself, but asking what her dream family would be the mare fell quiet. The cogs of her mind began to turn and whirl at the prospect of creating her very own and very much ideal family. At the mention of becoming a princess, the young mare gave another gentle laugh, pawing at the ground with amusement.
"I th-th-think being royalty could be quite f-f-fun! To be someone really special and ever imp-p-portant, to be something unlike th-the ordinary. . . A queen of w-w-winter, perhaps?" She glanced down at her coat. It would only be fitting - though her mother lookd more like winter than she. Eponine herself could almost pass off for a queen of dawn or dusk. . . . Shaking her head though, the young mare looked happily back up at her new friend. "I w-w-wouldn't replace my f-family as it is now. Mother and Father are d-divine but. . . I suppose I w-w-would wish that Marius and Zev-v-vach would stick closer to home." She paused, brow furrowing slightly, "And b-be a little more s-s-sociable to each other."
Zevach treated her like a queen but was rough around the edges. . . but he was ALWAYS competing with Marius! And it took soooo much encouragement and pining to get her darkest brother to come out and play much less talk about Zevach to him. They were family - they weren't in competition with each other! Family was supposed to be there for one another, in her ideal world, and everyone was to be happy and joyous.
A shame that wasn't how things always worked out.
