AN UPDATE!!!!!!!!
Chapter 2: Becoming a Way
Feeling a fuzzy feeling on my ear, I roll over and mumble. The fuzzy feeling comes back and so I open my eyes. There is a beady-eyed ball of fuzz on my nose. I scream so load I think I woke up the dead old lady across the street.
Mrs. Way bursts into he room. “What’s wrong?!”, she screams. She sees the rodent on me and ran to pick it up. Gerard came in and said, “What’s going on? I heard scre-“, he got cut off when he got sight of the tiny ball of fluff.
“What are you doing to Olivia?!”, Gerard yelled. Olivia? Sounds like some fancy pop singer. “Honey, this is Gerard’s hamster.”, Mrs. Way said. I looked at the small cotton ball. “Sorry Gerard.”, I apologized. “Its okay”, he said while holding up the hamster up to me expecting me to pet it.
I softly poked the hamster’s head. I was frightfully afraid of rodents. Mrs. Way interrupted all this action. “Come on kids, it is time for school!”, she said very excitedly. Gerard was a year older than me, so I was afraid that I wouldn’t have him to survive the new school.
I went down stairs and ate a Mexican omelet, Mr. Way’s specialty. I got dressed and Mrs. Way fixed my hair for me. She told me about how she was very glad to have another girl in the family. I took a look in the mirror of what she did to my hair.
“Oh! I like it! Thank you Mrs. Way!”, I said. “Oh, honey. You can call me mom now.” She said. I stared at her blankly. I wasn’t ready for that just yet. Just the thought of calling another person my mom just doesn’t feel right. “Ok, lets go. We are going to be late.”
I went back down stairs and got my new backpack. Mikey came up from behind me and started putting his books into his bag. I caught a gaze of one of his math books. It said, “Algebra: Grade 3”. “Mikey! Are you in the same grade as I’m in? Mikey looked at me and nodded.
He didn’t say anything and that made the so-called conversation very awkward. I hate when conversations become awkward. So I tried to keep the talk going. “ So you take Algebra? Is it hard?’ I ask. He doesn’t say anything and goes outside into the car.
Does he hate me? What did I do? Well, if we are going to have to be siblings then I must make him feel comfortable around me. Mrs. Way, I mean, Mom drove Gerard, Mikey, and me to school. Gerard left to his grade leaving me with speechless boy.
I wasn’t in the mood for trying to make him like me. So I just went to my first class. It has been three classes already and still no one has talked to me! Is this the school of no talking? Do I scare them? I sat down with my lunch and decided to try to make some new friends.
I sat next to this girl who also seemed to be new because she was sitting alone. “Hi, I’m Ami! Are you a new student too?” I ask. “I’m Steph, and no, I usually sit alone.,” she explains. “But apparently not anymore!”, she said very happily.
As I talked to her it seemed she wasn’t paying attention to me at all! “Hello? Steph?”, I wave my hand in front of her. “Who are you staring at?”, I ask angrily. I put my face next to hers and the only person I see is….GERARD??
((duh duh duh!!!!!))
