Solarfall97 1. Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus/Death/Testament/Iced Earth etc) Isn't he the b*****d that played on the album, Horror Show, then disappeared and couldn't be contacted? xd I'm going to be obscure and say Victor Wooten (I think thats his name?), even though he's not metal. As for metal...not too sure. All the ones mentioned thus far are good. ninja

In a metal context, I'd say Tony Choy or Doug Keyser.

Darker In a metal context, I'd say Tony Choy or Doug Keyser. Tony Choy is good, but Roger Patterson was the better bassist with Atheist, IMO. 1) John Myung 2) Roger Patterson

I'm not sure my lists really count for much since I've had a full 5 posts here over one day, but I'm posting one anyways. Bassists are listed 10-1 with 1 being the greatest. Current or final band before retirement are listed following bassist name (Although I don't know if anyone's gonna need 'em.).
10. John Deacon - Queen 9. Roger Waters - Pink Floyd 8. Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister - Motörhead 7. Gene Simmons - (If you don't know this bassist's band, please leave the guild in an orderly fashion.) 6. Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers 5. Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath 4. Les Claypool - Primus 3. Steve Harris - Iron Maiden 2. Geddy Lee - Rush 1. Jack Bruce - Cream
(Critiques welcomed, just don't be too harsh. This took me a good 15-20 minutes.)

Steve Harris, without a doubt. But Geezer Butler was pretty good, too.

Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero) is the best in my opinion. Bass + Screaming = Awesome.

For one, Paul Gray sucks. Now, onto the list. Steve Harris, for amazing songwriting ability and an insane influence on metal forever. Cliff Burton, he actually knew theory! Billy Sheehan, great bassist, great person (he's super cool in person). Markus from Helloween, cuz he actually played melodic basslines. And me, for rolling all of these into one! pirate
