Ooh, walks are great. I love walks. Not only do you raise awareness (and money, through pledges), but you get some fresh air and exercise. Great stuff, walks!

Agreed. I have no idea where it is though. A lot of people I know run it. Not me! Haha, I'm pretty slow. I look at it as taking my time and really expressing the importance of said walk. xd

Can't really do a walk where I am. But the local chapter of "Colleges against Cancer" has been active.

Sorry I took so long to get back to this topic, I've been busy with classes.
Anywho, out of curiosity, which cities that members live in have recycling plants?

Chicago has recycling plants, and a fairly good system for getting things to them. You just put your recyclable materials in a blue trash bag instead of a regular black or white one, and the sanitation workers pull out the blue bags and go through it. You don't even have to separate your recycling into cans, bottles, glass, plastic, paper, and so on.

Part of the reason not many people recycle is because that would actually involve doing something yourself. Being Americans, we're too busy to actually keep ourselves from dying horrible deaths. But anyway, we have a recycle plant that you have to take your materials to yourself. It's easy enough if you have the time and patience to do it yourself.
I have an extensive magazine collection that needs to be thrown out, but I would feel so horrible for doing so. I think I'll load all of them up in a laundry basket, and take them down to the plant this weekend. I might even save all the water bottles I hate throwing out. biggrin

I keep a separate container for recyclable materials, right near my desk. Anything I can recycle goes in there. It's not in the kitchen, because I can always come out of the kitchen -- I'm on my feet anyway. I put it by my desk because that's most often where I need to throw away paper.

There's no real recycling project where I am, so what I'm doing for my first "project" is trying to find people willing to invest in the construction of a recycling plant in the city. Would offer jobs for people (this place is in serious need of more jobs), make the place greener, and bring in revenue.

I'm bringing this back to life (teh j00wish necromancer?!).
For those of you who attend university, or any other higher education facility that prepares its own food, I would like you to submit a proposal to the Administration that a small anaerobic digestion chamber be utilized not only in the generation of heating fuel, but in the creation of rich compost via the disposal of organic rubbish. The compost, it should be noted, can be sold or donated to local farmers, gardeners, and any local store that sells fertilizer.
If you're willing to do this, please make a post here. If you'd like help writing up a spiffy looking proposal, and/or would like more information, please note that in your post and I will gladly oblige.

I'd be interested as soon as I figure out what college I'm going to! We have a recycling plant I have no idea the exact location of, but our neighborhood pays for a service that comes and gets recyclables every week.
