Tseng looked up from his work at the female Turk. He tried his hardest to hide his smile. He had expected her to fail, and now he had a plan to make his job so much easier.

"I'm disappointed, Elana," he said with an almost over exaggerated sigh, "I will not accept anything less than perfection in the future. Now for your punishment..."
He picked up the large stack of papers and walked over to her.

"you are to have these filled out and filed correctly, first thing tomorrow morning."
He dropped the stack of papers on their couch, letting them fall over onto the floor.

"I expect better service from you in the future."
And with that he turned away, feeling so much better about how the day was going.

The breeze that blew by the ever-so-proud Ex-Soldier smelt especially sweet.
"Hey, Cloud? You noticed that too... that scent in the air?"
He looked over at the young blonde, who still seemed to be in a daze. Nonetheless, Zack continued to smile and speak to the other, convinced he could hear and understand every word that was said. In fact, he wasn't convinced, he already knew.
"It's the smell of freedom."
He stared up into the sky, and then rose his fist to knock on the glass leading into the interior of the truck in annoyance.
"Hey, old man! When are we gonna get to Midgar, already?!"
After hearing no response, he sighed. He could understand, this being the seventh time he had complained.
"I've got a place in Midgar,"
Zack explained to Cloud, though he appeared to be talking to the sky.
"When we get there, there's some-one I want you to meet. Her name is Aeris, and I think you'd like her..."
When the raven-haired EX-soldier said the young flower maidens name, he smiled a bit sadly. He realized that it had been a long time since he'd actually said her name. Sure, he'd thought about her... but he kept it all in his mind. It felt good to let the name fall past his lips again, he admitted to himself.
"She's the kinda' person who'd be able to make you feel right at home, no matter where you really are or what you've really been through."
Zack let his eyes close, the breeze still comforting him as it ran through his dark black locks of hair.
"So, what are you going to do when we get to Midgar?"
Zack opened his eyes, and briefly looked at Cloud, who didn't look like he was going to answer. He chuckled lightly.
"It's alright. I won't put you on the spot like that."

Before she could catch the column, it tipped over, the papers streaming past her fingers one by one. Her eyes were wide with shock, brimming with tears. No, I deserved this for failing Tseng so miserably...As a Turk, my punishment is meant to be severe. I am lucky that Tseng is so kind....but.... Elena composed herself and stood up from the couch, saluting once more.

"My apologies sir! I won't ever fail you again!" Elena declared and squatted down to pick up all of the papers that were scattered across the polished, marble floor. I promise...I won't ever fail again.

User ImageTifa’s face immediately relaxed upon hearing his comment, and she tilted her head more to one side, a smile creeping over her lips to mirror his own. She took the glass from him without hesitation, nodding her head once. “You know that’s what I like to hear.” With that she turned on her heel to head over to the counter behind the bar, a row of bottles scattered upon its surface, arranged in no particular order and she soon began filling Barret another glass, her long dark locks gently swaying behind her as she moved.

Barret might—did look a little rough around the edges but he had a good heart. He loved Marlene with every fiber of his being; it was obvious by the way he looked at her. She was both his strength and his weakness; the reason he kept going yet also the thing that held him back. Tifa only wondered what it felt like to love someone so unconditionally, that one would gladly put his or her life on the line, even sacrifice it, to keep the other safe.

Setting down one of the bottles, finishing with mixing his drink, Tifa stared down at the liquid as she lowered her lashes and smiled softly to herself, it only lasting a moment before she pushed her thoughts away, picking up Barret’s now filled glass. Turning back around, Tifa padded over to the bar to slide the glass over to Barret, not bothering to say a word, the sound the glass made along the wood enough to alert her friend.

Walking over to the end of the bar and lifting the makeshift door made of nothing more than a thin board of wood, Tifa rounded around to the modest looking table in the corner. “I wonder where they ran off to…” She spoke softly, more to herself than anyone else as she approached the table, a dirty plate and quarter–filled mug ‘adorning’ it, left behind by none other than Wedge. Picking up the two pieces of kitchenware, the brunette slowly trailed her gaze toward the window, by the door. Watching the occasional person walk by outside, she mused that they couldn’t have wandered far.

"No..." he said after a long pause when he finally regained controll of himself, "You wont fail me. Im sure of that."
He walked to his desk and sat down. It looked so much neater without all that paperwork piled on it. His day had just gotten ten times easier.

"While your serving your punishment, I think im going to get some other work done while I have the chance. If you must get ahold of me, and it had better be an emergency, call my cell and I might take pity on you and answer."
He cast a quick glance outside and smiled a rare smile.
"It's been a while..." he mumbled under his breath as he stood up once more and strode past her to the door.
"Elana," he said, pausing at the door, "make sure not to wrinkle any of those papers."
And with that he left his office.

"Sir!" she replied as he exited the office. Blood rushed to Elena's face until it turned a bright, scarlet red. Oh my...Tseng's smile.... She brought both her hands to her cheeks, feeling so flustered that she became dizzy. I've never seen him smile...such a beautiful smile....Tseng is so kind to me... Elena stood in a stupor for a few minutes before letting out a gasp.

"No! I shouldn't slack off like this! I will finish those papers!" Elena said aloud, slamming her fist into the palm of her hand for emphasis.

"Tseng is counting on me!" she told herself and carried the stack of papers to his desk, neatly sitting herself into his warm seat. Her face turned a slight shade of pink as she closed her eyes. I can smell his scent....it's warm... And with that, she immediately got to work.

Cloud didn't react to Zack's nonstop banter. He heard it, of course; Zack was hard to ignore. Cloud just couldn't seem to make heads or tails of much, not since the labs. His semi-comatose state allowed for the bare minimum effort in everything, leaving the small blond just barely there. His eyes were open, but all he saw was mako green.

Although lately, Cloud would sometimes become lucid enough to see colors and react to the world. Never much, never for long, but it was a vast improvement from his ragdoll-like state. Some nights he would dream, others he'd wake up and find Zack asleep or keeping watch. Ever so slowly, Cloud Strife was becoming himself again.

User ImageAerith stared at the now cold soup in front of her. She was in no mood to sit quietly and listen to her mothers rants, even though sometimes they were amusing.
"-and annother thing!" Elmyra neerly shouted, slamming her fist on the table, "If Shinra's so-"
"Mom im going out again." Aerith declared suddenly standing up. It wasnt like her to be so rude, but there was something she felt she simply had to do.
"But you barely touched your soup!"
"im not hungry. Anyways, i'll be back soon."
"before dark would be nice,"Elmyra said with a sigh. Over the years she had just given up arguing with the girl.
"I'll try," Aerith said grinning as she made her way to the door, "Bye mom."
"Bye hon-" but Aerith had already opened the door and slammed it shut behind her before Elmyra could get the rest of the sentence out.

Aerith quickly walked down the short path, swooping down to pick up the metal rod as she went. There was something driving her to hurry, as if she may miss something if she didnt. Or perhaps she was just restless after her and her mothers conversation.
After only a few minutes of walking she could see the church ahead of her. Her own secret place. Her heaven.
She walked up the few crumbling stairs and opened the church doors wide, almost expecting to find someone there waiting for her. She was slightly disapinted when she was greeted by silence.
She sighed and closed the doors behind her with a sharp snap.
"So todays no different after all..." she said quietly to the empty church.
A small gust of wind blew through a broken window and the flowers seemed to nod in agreement.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The elevator that Tseng was on was completely empty. As he decended onto the ground floor, he checked his reflection in the shiny ceiling. Quickly he adusted his tie, and slicked back his hair with one hand. He was nervous. It seemed like such a long time since he had seen... her.

"I wonder if she'll be happy to see me..." he mummbled to himself checking his reflection one last time, "She didnt seem to thrilled last time."
He pushed the thaught out of his mind as the elevator opened with a ding. He shoved his way past a rather large man that was trying to get on just as he got off and stepped out into the main lobby.

"Good afternoon Mr. Tseng," the secretary said politely.
"Good afternoon," came the short reply. He didnt know her name after all those years of working here. He didnt need to know her name.

He stepped out of the large building into the bright warm sunlight. It greeted him like the sunlight greets winter. It over powerd him and defrosted his cold heart somewhat. A tiny smile flashed across his lips, so quick, that you would barely notice it, even if you were paying close attention.
How could he help but be happy on a day like this? For once he had a neerly free day, even if it was still "work." It became harder and harder to hide a smile, even as a dirty cab pulled up to take Tseng to her. Even as he payed the man twice as much as a reasonable man would ask for. Even as he stepped outside in front of Aerith's house only to be turned away by an angry Elmyra.
He could not help but be happy. He knew exactly where to find her.

The church was not a terribly far walk from Aerith's house, just a dangerous one. There were many things that could slow you down. It wasnt exactly the best place for a pretty girl like Aerith. He had warned her many times about the dangers, but she always had a snappy comeback ready for him.
He reached out to open the church doors, but paused, wondering if he should go inside. Would she be happy to see him? Of would she shrink away from him like he was a dangerous insect?
He took a deep breath and at last, pulled the door open, flooding the room with warm sunlight.
A quick smile graced his lips when he saw her, but he quickly regained controll and let his face fall into a serious almost buisness-like expession.
"Aerith Gainsborough."
Even as he said her name he was afraid he was going to blush and give himself away.
"How have you been since the last time I came?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.3 hours have past and Elena found it difficult to keep her eyes open any longer. No! I still have a couple of pages left to sign! Tseng is counting on me! Her hand moved across the paper frantically, scribbling as fast as she could before sweet sleep took her.

"There!" she exclaimed breathlessly and slammed the pen down on the desk.

"There...all done..." she mumbled sleepily, placing all the papers in a Manila Folder. She rubbed her eyes, trying to shoo the tiredness away. Before I sleep...maybe I should call Tseng and tell him I"m finished? No...that's too much...I'll call the secretary... She fished around her breast pocket for her cell phone and flipped it open, quickly dialing the front desk.

"Hello?" came the reply of a woman.

"This is Elena. Can you tell me the whereabouts of Mr. Tseng?" Elena requested.

"He just left for a mission Miss Elena," the secretary answered.

"Thank you," the young blond replied and turned off the phone. He left already.... Elena turned around to face the window, watching the clouds turn into multiple colors of the sun. Sundown.... Once again her eyes began to droop. She eyed tiredly at the couch but she could not bring herself to walk towards it. Elena sunk farther and farther into Tseng's leather chair, finally drifting into sleep, in the warmth of his scent.

User ImageAerith jumped and whiled around that the sound of that familiar voice.
"Tseng?" her expession showed her excitement for only a moment before fading into a serious look.

"How have you been since the last time I came?"

His words seemed to ecco around the room.
"Well, im... recovering," she said holding up her bruised arm. In truth it didnt hurt anymore, but she still loved to see the guilty expesiion on his face, even for a moment. It made him seem more... human.

A faint smile graced her lips and she turned away to hide it.
"So," she said casualy as if the memory of their last visit wasn't bothering them at all, "What has the great Turk leader been up to?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 07, 2007 7:20 am

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tseng took a full moment to admire her beauty as she turned around. She had grown so much since the first time he came after her, back when she was just a little girl. Back when he was just starting out. Now she had grown into a beautiful women, capable of charming any man.
Sort of like how she charmed me... he thaught to himself and he straightened his tie nervously.

"Well, i'm... recovering."

Her words cut into his brain, scaring it.
His face fell into something like pain as he recalled that night.

He had managed to corner her right outside the church. She screamed loudly into the darkness for somebody to help her, but nobody came. It was like she didnt even reconize him, but it was dark, so perhaps she truly didnt reconize him. He prayed that was true.
He had cupped a hand over her mouth to silence her, but that only made her scream louder.
"Aerith," he had shouted to her over her screams, "Aerith, calm down!"
He uncovered her mouth to hear what she had been trying to say.
"Im not going back! I refuse! let me go, or you'll be sorry."
"Aerith, I cant let you go this time. Listen to me. It's only for a little while," he said stroking her hair with his free hand, the other hand held her tightly by the arm.
She seemed to relax a little bit.
"I dont want to go..." she whispered, "Please dont make me go, Tseng."
"I have to," he said softly, tenderly letting his hand fall to her cheek.
She squirmed away from himn as he touched the skin, and at last he realized just how much he had revealed to her. His grip on her arm tightened and she screamed.
Not even the warmest person could melt the ice around his heart completely.

"So, what has the great Turk leader been up to?"

He felt and odd sense of releif flood his mind as she changed the subject.
"Well," he said casualy taking a step to her, "I'm sure it's nothing you would be interested in, Ms. Gainsborough."
Although, he was quite sure she would be interested. She always was.
But how could he tell her? There had been a break out at one of Hojo's labs. two experiments escaped. New's had reached him just hours after it happened. He had been trying to track where they had gone to, but he failed. They both escaped and he had gotten in big trouble for letting them get away. He had been punished for letting the other Turks fail. And he was being punished because he knew one of the men that escaped.
First Class SOLDIER Zack, Aerith's ex-boyfriend.
How could he tell her that he had tried to have him killed when he escaped? How could he tell her that he hadnt run off with annother girl? That he had been held for all those years in a lab? That Hojo had used him as an experiment?
Could he tell her that after this he planned on going after them agian?
How could he tell her all this without her calling him a monster?
How could he possibly tell her all of that?

User ImageAerith bend down to yank a weed out of the hard ground. She was certain that the weeds would keep growing, but still she tried to keep up with them. Weeds were selfish plants. They killed off all others around it, just to steal the water and nutrients from them. In a place such as the church where things grew so wonderfully, weed's such as these couldn't help but move in.

"I'm sure it's nothing you would be interested in, Ms. Gainsborough."

Aerith smirked and looked up at him standing just a few feet away.
"Try me," she said simply.
Tseng never seemed to want to talk about his work, and she knew exactly why. Turks never had the most glamorous jobs.
Sometimes she wondered if he even wanted that job or if at one point an time he had some crazy dream job like an artist or a Pianist. She thought of Tseng sitting at a piano and she nearly laughed. She could hardly imagine him doing anything else.

Zack had complete faith in Cloud as the time rolled on. He never lost that spirit of his, thriving fuller than ever now that the two of them had successfully escaped. Zack felt like he could handle anything now, anything that ShinRa had to throw at him. He thought that they had taken him for a fool---thinking they could contain him like that. Treat him and the people he cared about so poorly. He smirked at the thought of such idiocy, and sighed. He wanted to patch things up with Aeris--- and badly. He wouldn't be surprised though, if she wouldn't exactly run to him with open arms. Did she even miss him, think about him? His smile seemed to fade at the thought. Was she even safe where she was?
"Well, I know what I'm gonna do. Like I said, I've got a place I can crash for awhile."
Zack said again, directing his words at Cloud. Then he looked worried.
"Oh--- but the Mom lives there too... I guess that's out.."
He looked thoughtful, as the blonde next to him continued to say nothing.
"Yep, gotta change my plans... but no matter what I do, I gotta get some money. Hey Cloud, let's start a business together!"
He smiled cheerfully as he prattled on.
"Hm... but what could we do? Hey, what do you think I'd be good at?" He turned to the glass where the old man driving the truck was behind.
"Hey old man, what do you think I'd be good at?"
The gruff grey-haired man looked offended and annoyed and said:
"What're you yappin' about? You're still young, ain't ya? Young folks should try it all! Gotta pay your dues while you're young. Go out and look for what yeh want!"
Zack had turned to face Cloud by this point, grinning.
"Try everything? That's easy for him to say."
The raven haired Ex-Shinra lackey began doing squats, though he wasn't required to do them anymore, he still liked doing them. It helped him think, and so he continued on with this for awhile, the everso boring scenery still unchanging. Suddenly, he stopped as an idea hit him.
"HEY!!!"
He clenched his fist, excited.
"Of course! I've got the brains and skills a lot of other guys don't. That settles it. I'm gonna become a mercenary! Boring stuff, dangerous stuff, anything for money. I'm gonna be rich!"
The old man called back to him,
"Hey, didn't ya hear a word I said?!"
Zack simply ignored him, and smiled brightly, leaning down towards
Cloud and moving closer to the other.
"....we're friends, right?"
He leaned even closer, so that his lips were very near to the Cloud's ear.
"Mercenaries, Cloud. That's what you and me are gonna be."
He stood up, in front of the other.
"Understand, Cloud?"
He nodded to himself, though he seemed to be answering for the young blonde, as the truck continued moving onwards...

"Understand Cloud?"

Cloud was vaguely aware of the sensation of riding in some sort of car and could hear Zack's movement. The green started to fade a little, revealing a bright blue sky. Cloud blinked a few times and squinted in the sunlight he wasn't used to registering.

"Zack?" Cloud's voice was hoarse and quiet from the years of disuse and he had to cough to call out again. "Zack?"

Cloud didn't dare move. He hadn't moved under his own power in five years and was sure to fall over.
