And that was it, their promise was sealed with their love and Hababuu felt a great calmness fall over her. She would protect him now and he would protect her. Her heart felt warm, in fact her soul felt warm. It was as if her soul were singing with joy at being so lucky to have a brother like Damu.

She thought of her other siblings, the other set of twins who hated one another and the siblings without twins. How unlucky they were. They would never know what it was like to share such a wonderful bond. She replayed Damu's words in her mind, smiling wide. She'd remember this always, even when she was old and weary.

"Okay, I'll stay right here." She called. "Promise." And she parked her rump on the ground, kneading the ground with her forepaws. Oh, this was far too exciting, how would she sit still for so long? She brought both ears up and watched her brother leave. He seemed happier to her. Maybe she had done her job of cheering him up. Maybe if she was always by his side that voice in him would stay quiet. If so, she had to give it a try. She had to.

"Be quick!" She called. She did not hear his last words, perhaps because the wind carried them away, but she saw that he said something and guessed what it was. She smiled, her eyes shining.

"I wonder..." She mused aloud. "What my present is..."
