Zasha paused a moment in her work and leaned on her broom.
"Well, if the Ironworker's Guild and the Waxmaker's Guild work together a bit better than they have been, it shouldn't take more than a month. However, with the way they've been feuding lately there's no telling how long it will be. I just wish that silly girl in the Waxmaker's hadn't slighted the head guildsman of the Ironworker's son--such petty things that cause so many problems."
She looked upwards at the empty space where once there had been criss-crossing lines bearing lanterns and shrugged. "I'm sure we can use torches and such until the work in done on new lanterns, it just means we'll need to hire more than just one lamplighter to keep up the light."
Returning to her sweeping, Zasha just hoped that the extra help would accept payment in trade that one of the members of her cabinet or herself could provide. There really was no town coffer to pull from since most everything was done by trade in Hestian, and they had a sparse enough treasury without trading somewhat expensive items or things from the public food stores just to light the streets.

Loralei bit her lip, looking up at where the lights had been. "I wonder what happened to them..." she whispered to herself.
Loralei knew of the problems with the treasury. She herself had just advised Zasha to find new ways of gaining money not a week ago. Loralei sighed. It was hard without such trivial problems as lighting. After finishing sweeping the remainder of the broken glass, she unfurled her wings and flew to her roof. There, she tried to find a solution to the lighting problem. She happened to glimpse a movement from a roof on another house down the block, and her lips thinned. "Who could that be...?"

After they finished sweeping up the wreckage, Zasha went back into the Silverworker's Guild and returned to work. Her thoughts churned with ideas and feuds and to-do lists, and the easiest way to settle them was to work. -------- Kit took one last sad look at the clean roadway and scampered off the back of the roof he'd been hiding on, hoping he hadn't been seen.

Loralei sighed, and decided to just let it go.
It didn't matter anyway, with the problems that the Artemis Faction was facing.

A dirt-covered boy dressed in raggedy garments staggered through the streets. He could have easily been mistaken for a common beggar given his uncouth appearance, but that was not something he was worrying about. Alucard had been walking on foot for many hours without even a drop of water to give him a bit of relief from his thirst, "I wonder what water tastes like around here.."
He imagined himself jumping into the ocean and drinking up all the water it had. It wasn't long before he collapsed to the ground. At this point all he was doing was moving his limbs across the ground as though he were swimming, "Yaaayyy...surfs up~~~"

Loralei walked around the corner and almost tripped over a small boy who seemed to be swimming in the street. She let out a small squeak, then righted herself.
"Are you all right? Is there something that I could help you with?" Loralei always helped those in need, especially children. She poked the boy in the back when he didn't respond and kept swimming. "Little boy...?"

"waaaattterrrr...weeee~~~" He stopped moving his limbs, resting the side of his face against the ground. He had no clue that he wasn't at the ocean at all, and he thought that Loralei was just another person at the beach.

Loralei sighed. "Um... you're not at the ocean. You're in Delphi. Capital of the Artemis Faction?" She could see there wasn't any point. The boy was too far gone to understand her. "What happened to you...?" Loralei murmured, patting the boy's head. "I should probably wait until you awake from your reverie..."
She sat next to the boy, still swimming in the street. Loralei shook her head, and waited until he was sane enough to speak.

Alucard looked up and saw that he was surrounded by buildings and not in fact in the ocean. Then he screamed, "AAAHH!! Who took the ocean away?!"

Loralei grinned and said, "Sweetheart, you never were in the ocean. You've been in Delphi, capital of the Artemis Faction. Can I help you with something? You look... thirsty."

"Yah! I've been traveling and traveling and...I forgot to bring water with me, so I thought I'd come out here to get some water and..." Alucard sat up and scratched his head, "I didn't make it to the ocean I guess. I'm thirsty..."
Then he perked up a bit, wearing a wide smile on his face as he looked up at Loralei, "Do you know the nearest place I can get something to drink?"

Loralei smiled, glad to be of service. "Yes, of course. Come with me... The town well is just around the corner."
Loralei began to walk there, her steps slow and measured so as not to outdistance herself from the boy and his short legs. "Don't you have a family? What's your name?"

"Nah, I don't have a family...or at least I don't think so," He slowed his response a little, being occupied with trying to recollect what he knew about his family. He couldn't remember, but that didn't bother him. He had lived by himself for many years and there wasn't a single time within those years where he had given thought to his family. Alucard gave a short shrug. Then he picked up his pace and answered the other half of her question happily, "Well, my name's Alucard Dantes. People think it's scary. Do you think it's scary? What's your name?"

"Sweetheart, there are things out there much scarier than your name. Mine's Loralei. If you don't have a family, then where have you been living? Or is that a secret?" Loralei smiled, knowing children liked to keep their secrets.
She had quite a few of her own to keep...

"I usually travel around so I don't worry about places to stay. When I need to find a place to sleep I just choose whatever place looks comfortable to sleep on. Ooo ooo!! One time I accidentally slept near an ant hill and got ants in my pants in the morning! Ha ha!" Alucard laughed at how much the ants tickled him back then.
